Teaching

Contrary to what the previous pages may lead you to believe we are actually working over here. Aimee is teaching English at Chuo Koko (high school), occasionally being loaned out to other High Schools in town. I am teaching for the local board of education, so a couple of Junior High Schools, as well as some elementary schools. I spend a lot of time at Inakadate Junior High.
Above are some girls from Inakadate Chugakko (junior high) hanging out at the school festival. And to the right is the Soma shogakko (elementary school) English club. Unlike their elder counterparts, shogaksei (primary students) don't have to dress like sailors everyday. School is a much bigger part of life in Japan, and it regulates what you do on and off campus. No earrings, make-up, ect even after school.

These are some of the girls from Aimee's English club. We hold it at our house and practice conversational English. All three of these girls are moving on to university and it was sad to see them leave. It is amazing how attached you become to students.

Here we are learning the ever important song, Jingle Bells (no 'Christmas Story' jokes please!). Aimee and I helped out a friend in a neighboring town who had to have an English Christmas party for over a hundred kids. Teaching is absolutely exhausting, but to see the progress, and to know that you are proof to these kids that there is life outside of Japan makes it all worth it.
