Rurouni Kenshin Jump Manga Summary - Chapter 213 (20/10/1998)

[This summary done by Shizuki and Wuken on the SSAS ML.]

The location: Police Headquarters, in Japan
The time: Several days after the burial of "Kamiya Kaoru" and the
disappearance of Yukishiro Enishi, who fled with his associate
Gein after apparently completing his much-talked about "Jinchuu"

"Alright, let's go", says a determined-looking Yahiko.

Misao wonders aloud if this plan is really going to work, and Yahiko
assures her that this is a sure thing. With that said, the two run off
inside the police agency. ("Yoshi! Go!!") A small sweatdrop begins to form
on Megumi's face as she watches the two kids scurry inside. "Are you sure
what they're doing is okay?", she asks Aoshi. He replies that the ones who
need to do the worrying are those two, and for the time being, to just let
them enjoy themselves.

Meanwhile, inside Saitoh's office...

Cho, exhausted by his work, relaxes on a sofa off to the side of the room.
"I'm burnt out. All this running around is exhausting me." Saitoh himself
is pondering over a few documents [which were apparently given to him by
Cho -- remember that in an episode previous to this one, Cho was rummaging
around in Enishi's mansion and found something that caught his eye].
"Hmmm... this isn't enough", the police lieutenant remarks. "There's not
enough information. Go out again one more time and get me more."

Cho wakes up with a start, and mouths off. "You're complaining about the
stuff I brought this time!?" Saitoh replies calmy, "You didn't include
pictures." Cho gives Saitoh 'the bird', and raves on and on for a few
seconds, until...

A knock is heard at the door.
"Hello... catering service!"

Yahiko (wearing a cheap disguise) busts into the office yelling out that's
he's brought soba, and Misao does the same (yes, she's also wearing a cheap
disguise), announcing that she's got sushi. The two think to themselves,
"Yes! Our infiltration was a success! After this, we'll cleverly trick
Saitoh into going outside, and..."

"Oh, it's the Kamiya dojo brat and that little girl from Aoiya, huh?",
Saitoh remarks. Cho asks what the two want.

Yahiko and Misao are taken aback by their failure, and Saitoh tells them
that they're being a nuisance, and should disappear. Misao and Yahiko
berate Saitoh for being so pompous.

The two fall over out of shock when Aoshi and Megumi appear at the door
along with the police chief, who announces that Saitoh's got a visitor.
Yahiko demands to know what's going on, because Aoshi is apparently wanted
by the police. The police chief replies that he heard about the situation
from Takani-san, and decided to just let this pass for today. Yahiko calls
him a pushover.

Saitoh drives to the point, and asks what they all want, because he
obviously doesn't have time to play around. Yahiko replies that it's the
same for them, and asks Saitoh to tell them (without it being too much
trouble) the whereabouts of Yukishiro Enishi. Saitoh replies that he
doesn't see any reason why he should answer that, so the business is done,
and that they should now return home. Misao raves about that answer being
too less of a trouble.

Yahiko offers to trade some big secret with Saitoh for Enishi's
whereabouts, and Saitoh thinks aloud... "Big secret, eh? Could you possibly
be talking about the fact that Kamiya Kaoru is really alive?"

"Oh, right on the nose", Saitoh remarks.

Aoshi wonders aloud how Saitoh could have known about that, and Saitoh
tells him to look at the documents scattered about on the table. The police
lieutenant informs them that these were the documents that Cho found in
Enishi's former headquarters. Cho replies, "Of course, things like this are
easy when it's under my control." Yahiko remarks, "What, you're a spy under
Saitoh!?" Misao says that that's really lame and uncool.

Cho's expression:

Saitoh continues. "This is an impressive document that researches Kamiya
Kaoru's appearance. Also, after inspecting Iwanbou #3 that we took back, we
concluded that there was a space large enough to put one person inside the
abdomen area. And well, if you think about the situation, then of course..."

Megumi asks, "So why aren't you doing anything about it?" Saitoh replies
that the investigation of Yukishiro Enishi has priority over the death of a
young girl, and that the police doesn't have time to look into that. Misao
says that's not a good enough reason. Saitoh then tries a compromise.
"Alright, we'll look for Kamiya Kaoru when we have spare time, so go home
for today." Misao still isn't satisfied with that answer. Yahiko ponders
for a moment, and gives Saitoh an offer.

"If you'll give us information on Yukishiro Enishi's new headquarters,
we'll take over the Kaoru investigation. Then you can fully concentrate
your efforts on Yukishiro Enishi."

"So you're saying we don't have to investigate Kamiya Kaoru at all?",
Saitoh asks, with an smirk. "Yes", Yahiko replies. "After all, Kaoru is
part of us. Wherever she is, we'll find her."

Saitoh extinguishes the cigarette he's been smoking on for the past few
minutes, and plops himself down on the couch. "That's fine, I'll tell you
as long as you don't get in our way."

"We don't know the exact location of the new headquarters yet."

Misao flares up again. "What was that all about, making us anxious and
all!" "Listen", Saitoh says. "Yukishiro Enishi is the head of a weapons
organization. What he deals with are guns and cannons -- if he and his band
were to carry this contraband to Tokyo by taking the land route from the
Sea of Japan, that wouldn't be inconspicuous. Now that I've told you this
much, you should be able to figure it out."

Megumi thinks aloud... "If taking the land route is more difficult... then
naturally he'll opt for the sea route!" Saitoh finishes. "Correct. And
after investigating that option, I've come to suspect one near the Arakawa
river mouth. Even if that's not the correct one, if you follow the sea
route, it'll eventually lead you to the main."

Yahiko and Misao yell out, "Alright!, the Arakawa river mouth it is then!"
"Let's go Misao!", Yahiko yells, as he runs out of the office. Misao dashes
off behind Yahiko, telling him not to take charge.

Megumi and Saitoh sit there dumbfounded at the energy of the two kids.

"I would think that they would be a little more relaxed", Saitoh says to
Megumi. "Can't you do anything about that energy? It's your job to
discipline them." Aoshi replies, "You think so? I think they're just fine
as it is, that they're doing something for now. It'll eventually lead to
opening a way. Yahiko knows that naturally. I can see how he's a boy that
Battousai saw something in."

Megumi looks off at Aoshi after hearing his last line, and Saitoh lights up
another cigarette [talk about a chain smoker].

"But now that Battousai is broken, how's his condition? I heard that he's
fallen into the Raku-nin village, but is he still broken?", Saitoh asks.
"You heard?", Megumi asks in return. "You mean you haven't met him yet,
Saitoh?" Saitoh says that he doesn't feel like meeting him. Megumi asks if
he's worried about Kenshin, and Saitoh says that if he continues like this
and dies, then he loses [flashback all the way to the introduction of
Saitoh]. I told Aoshi before, our final outcome is determined by who remains."

Aoshi counters. "Battousai isn't a weak man to die now. You should have
known that best since you've known him the longest. The final outcome is
yet to come." Saitoh says that's fine, and that the final outcome would be
best if he and Battousai fought face to face.

"Anyhow, since we're still talking, tell me one thing", Aoshi asks. "Are
the police putting their full effort into the Yukishiro Enishi
investigation because you fear him escaping to Shanghai? If he's on the
ocean, then we can do something, but if he's in Shanghai, there's not much
we can really do."

Saitoh replies. "It's the other way around. The organization is priority
No. 2. I received a report that he came to Tokyo from Shanghai. I'm
assuming they decided to open a full-fledged black market here in Tokyo. If
all it was was Yukishiro Enishi's personal Jinchuu, then we could have let
it go as something cute, but from here on in I will not allow him to pass
through. His organization is still newly formed, and their influence isn't
that widespread, but they have the force."

"Also, not only do they ship weapons in, but they possess special
technology for modifying it for individual use. One example is the weapon
that the one-armed man [Kujiranami] got from Yukishiro Enishi. In the front
lines of battle, it would possess so much destructive power that it could
easily surpass the Armstrong Cannon. If that sort of weapon was used back
then, the battle would have been more difficult."

Inside jail, Kujiranami rests in a corner, nursing his right arm. He
mutters out... "Bat.. tou... sai..."

Megumi and Aoshi leave Saitoh's office, and the former asks the latter what
he's going to do for now. Aoshi replies that he's going to leave the two
kids to investigate the river mouth, and he'll continue with his original
plan (to set up a trap and wait). Megumi says that you don't know when
that'll be [i.e. when Gein'll arrive], but Aoshi counters by saying, "No,
there's a 'situation' that the other cannot take too much time for. As long
as that exists, he'll be trapped very soon."

"That's for certain."

Meanwhile, on the island Yukishiro Enishi has appointed as his new
headquarters, Gein watches a boat come into the bay. "Finally, you've come.
You've made me wait for so long."

Kaoru, from her bedroom window, sees the boat as well, and thinks, "It's
here... the best opportunity to escape!"
