The first installment of Kaos Moon tells the story of a mysterious stolen crystal skull. Katja and Jules are contracted by Mr. Carvahlo, the owner, to retrieve it from where ever it disappeared. At first Katja is reluctant and doesn't want to accepted the case, but weird things start occurring, even an attempt to her life. After a while it seems that Kaos Moon is connected to this crystal skull. So Jules, Mr. Carvahlo and Katja journey to China, to find the answer to this and, perhaps, other questions.

 
After becoming separated from Mr. Carvahlo, Kaos Moon takes over Katja's fragile body. Traveling through dimensional planes, she arrives at the City of the Immortals, where she meets the Xians. This strange race explain their plans of perfection and abundant knowledge, all which sound very nice, but they also want to return to Earth and destroy the human race. A choice Kaos Moon denies them. With a powerful scream she returns to the underground cave to save her friends.

Once in China, they go in search of the mysterious subterranean city where the skull supposedly originated. After a lot of walking through suffocating underground caves Katja starts to feel ill, and she stops to rest, with Jules close at hand.

 
Unfortunately, Mr. Carvahlo is to consumed with greed to get away with his life. Now Katja and Jules have returned to New York, where Katja wonders what it would have been like if Kaos Moon had chosen differently. Could the Xians' way save the world from its destructive tendencies? That's for all of us to ponder.
