1. Yakusoku wa Iranai(TV Edit) - This is the OP to the show, an upbeat and moving piece of music written by Yoko Kanno and sung by Sakamoto Ma'aya. It's a gourgous song, and Ma'aya-chan has a beautiful lyric voice that really fits Kanno-san's style. "But wait," you say. "This is the Tv edit. Why on earth would I want the shortened version?" Well, this is more than just the Tv edit. There's a short bit at the beginning where Ma'aya-chan sings the chorus slowly with a piano. this quiet, slower part gives you a chance to really appreciate her voice before the rest of the song starts.
2. The Vision of Escaflowne(Take 2) - I don't really like this. It's a bunch of guys chanting. 0_o;; There's a back-up, but the rhythm sounds really off at times.
*3. Memory of Fanelia - Fanelia is a very prominent song in the series, you'll recognize the melody right off if you've seen it. But I like this version a lot more. It's been rearranged with a violin, and then a full string orchestra playing it - it's a bit slower too. The melody is *really* nice. And I play the violin, so this is easy for me to like. ^_^
*4. Dance of Curse - Sugo~i!! Fast, urgent sounding chanting with an awesome orchestral part. And most of the chant is Es-ca-flow-ne, so you can pick it up and sing along right away. ^^;; I like to play this in the car, or when I'm running. It's the kind of fast paced, urgent, chase-scene sounding music that makes you want to go faster. ;;^_^
5. Zaibach
6. Flying Dragon
7. Cradle Song - This is a nice, slow, relaxing song. Pretty, but sad. You'll recognize it as the song that Folken keeps whistling.
8. Tomodachi - Another nice Kanno Yoko/Sakamoto Ma'aya song. Do these two make a great team or what? I don't like it as much as the other Esca songs though. It's slow and laid back, but picks up a little at the end. The eigo version, My Best Friend, can be found on Ma'aya-chan's Graperfruit album
9. Bird Cage
*10. Chain - Here's another fast paced chanting song. I love these. ^_^;; The best part about this song is the way that it builds to a great high point in the middle, and then brings it back down with just the sopranos vocalizing at the end. Really powerful.
11. Epistle
12.Perfect World - This is different. 0_o;; It's a guy singing in English, but you won't recognize it as English unless you're used to the way a Japanese speaker pronounces words. This guy's accent is really strong. It starts out with nothing but the singer, but there's some synth work at the end. Not bad, I guess.
13. Blaze(Take 2)
14. Hitomi Theme - It's nice, but my favorite slow Hitomi-sounding theme is Romance. I won't get into that though, since it's not on this Cd. ^_^;;
15.Angel
16.Neko no KIMOCHI - Merle. Ick. If you'll like this song or not depends on how much you can tolerate cute. It's not as bad as say, a Chibi-Usa song, but it's still up there. I don't hate it though.
17. Arcadia
*18. Kaze ga Fuku Hi - The most gourgous vocal song ever written, natch. I'm in love with it. Kanno-san performed a miracle when she actually managed to create the feel of a windy day using a vocal song. It's medium-slow, but there's a kind of quiet power in it that makes the whole thing tingle with energy. And Ma'aya-chan absolutely shines. I think that this version is a little bit different that the one on Grapefruit, but I'm not really sure. It's not very noticable, at any rate. You can't get this song on any other Esca Cd, by the way.
19. Mystic Eyes(TV Edit) - Well, I like it. It kind of pales though, coming right after Kaze ga Fuku hi. ^_- There's nothing new added either, so it's really just the Tv edit.
*20. The Story of Escaflowne~End Title - A really nice orchestral song that played at the very end of the series. It's moving and very pretty, and the end you can hear the ocean and Hitomi talking. (I mean the ocean making sounds, and then Hitomi talking. Not the ocean and Hitomi having a discussion. But you knew that. ^_^)
