Our
Story!
WARNING:
This story is long, so don't say that I didn't warn you!
The
Beginning...
Adam
& I met in high school when we were both sophomores at Manor High School.
I was
new to the school that year and we met in our Spanish class. As the
year
passed,
our friendship with one another grew. We became best friends &
shared
a special
bond with one another. Everyone always thought we had something going
on the
down low (ha ha!)...but honestly we never did. We were just really
close,
although
we did have secret crushes on one another. Hey, you didn't hear that
from
me though!! I ended up leaving Manor after my sophomore year.
Adam
and
I kept in contact with one another throughout the summer, but once I
started
my junior year at McCallum, the contact we did have somewhat drifted.
Reuniting...
Months
passed, & what do ya know? Adam and I ended up running into one
another
at a mall during our Christmas break vacation from school. We decided
to go
to a movie together (as friends) and from there we rekindled our friendship.
Our
friendship led into a relationship, and I decided to go back to Manor
the
second semester of my Jr. year. Everything felt so right ~ it was
fate!
The
timing was perfect, we were both ready for a honest, committed relationship.
What
can I say...we were meant to be and time was definitely on our side!

Senior
Year...
Before
our junior year in high school was over, we got a little surprise...
I was
pregnant! It wasn't easy being a teen parent, but I think Adam and
I were
(and still are) great parents. We had a lot more responsibility than
most
teens our age did, but the important thing is that our love got us through
it all.
We stayed strong for each other & for our newborn child. I gave
birth
to a
healthy baby boy on January 25, 1998...just 5 days after I turned 18.
High
school was coming to an end and we had to deal with the "So what are
we going
to do now" decision. Adam talked with a recruiter from the Marine
Corps,
who had been by our school a few times. After discussing our future
plans
together,
we decided that him enlisting was our best option at the time. Adam
signed
up and was in the delayed entry program. Adam and I graduated Class
of 98.

After
graduation...
Later
on that year, Adam and I got married on
August 8, 1998
(very
important date, don't forget to mark your calendars. Ha ha!)
Our
Wedding Day
In September,
we got yet another surprise. Baby #2 was on it's way.
We weren't
planning on having another so soon, but we embraced God's
gift
to us. Adam and I were worried us that he wouldn't be home for
the
pregnancy but we realized that the Marine Corps wasn't going to be
an easy
ride. :o)
Separations
Bring Hard Times...
Adam
left to boot camp on January 18, 1999. It was hard seeing him go.
Being
separated for three months wasn't an easy pill to swallow, but we
did
it! April 4th 1999, Adam graduated boot camp. His parents,
sister, son,
baby
in the oven and I were at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego,
Califonia
to see him graduate across the parade deck.

can read more about the MC aspect of our life in our USMC page)
Soon
after, Adam was at his "A" school for his MOS in Pensacola, FL.
Sad
thing to say but Adam was in Pensacola when our son decided to
make
his presence known to this world. I gave birth to another healthy
baby
boy named Adrian Rene Torres on June 25th, 1999. Adam was sad he
couldn't
be there but since, Adrian has forgiven him. (just kidding).
Reunited,
once again...

Adam
and I decided that it was in the best interest of our family that
we follow
him for his "C" schooling in Cherry Point, NC. The boys, Adam,
and
I found a condo right off the beach in Atlantic Beach and that's where
we resided
from September 1999 ~ December 1999. Cherry Point had such
a SMALL
town atmosphere, but I must say that it really made us strong. It
was
our first "home" together with just the four of us. It was hard not
having
all
that extra help from family, but we had each other and that's all that
mattered.
In December, we got orders to MCAS Miramar in San Diego, CA
Here
& Now...
In January
of 2000, we moved to San Diego, California. Currently, we live in
a
nice
town home on base at Miramar. Adam has 2 1/2 years left on his contract,
so
we are
halfway done! We sanctifed our marriage by having a church
wedding
at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on August 11, 2001 in Austin, TX.
Before
Adam gets out of the Marine Corps, he plans on going to school to get his
AMP
license. His AMP license would enable him to do the work he's doing
now in the
Marine
Corps, out in the civilian world. I would like to further my education
by going
to college, but being a SAHM, is something I am 100% dedicated to right
now.
I figure maybe once one of our boys is in school, I will have more time
and the
flexibility
to be able to do so. After Adam's enlisted term is up, we plan on
moving
back
home to Texas (hopefully Austin). Everyone keeps asking, "So when
are
you
having another baby?". We plan on waiting another 2 years at least,
but only
time
will tell. If we happen to be blessed with another gift from God,
we will be
more
than happy. Who knows, it could just be a girl. =) If
not, so be it. I am use
to boys
anyhow. Having a little girl might be a culture shock. Ha ha! ~ jk
Thanks!...
Thanks
for letting me share our experiences with you all. We hope that everyone
has
someone
or finds someone to share a love as meaningful and strong with someone
special.
=)
