Fleet Mission, start 12 december 2003, end …….

USS Vesuvius Mission posts only plus combined Bellicose/Ves posts

After the medical exams were through, Sonak headed back for the bridge, and just in time it seemed.

"Captain, picking up a distress call from a Klingon freighter close to the Cardassian border. They are...demanding...assistance."

"Set course, maximum speed," Sonak ordered, "as soon as all the crew is back on board." She touched a few buttons in the arm of her chair. "Captain Sonak to all crew, report back to the Vesuvius within 5 minutes. We are answering a klingon distress call. All hands battle stations!"

She changed channels and hailed the Black Tulip. "Admiral, we have received a distress call near the Cardassian border, we are going in." She only hoped the ship would not start acting up this time. Her engineering team had been unable to purge the salt from the systems and thus they kept acting up.

Mr Spedmo, set course for the cardassian border, Dean, scan for the klingon freighter. Skok, keep an eye on the starfields, announce any oddity you find. Martens, stand by on weapons, go to yellow alert. Reckus, keep sickbay ready for Klingon casualties." She sat down and looked at Fox. "Finally some action."

"Yellow alert. Phasers and torpedoes on standby."

=^= This is Lt Reckus in Sickbay. Sickbay ready and standing by =^=

from starbase:

Majeski grinned as he watched his old ship take off.. he Ordered the helmsman to put the ship in the experimental canipault in the starbase.. he personally was going to push the button on this one

He let out a ginn on his view screan in the launch control room Sonak held her hand up

"Wait Majeski don't get to fung ho yet" Sonak said

"Captain becareful....I don't want to see any of you retuned in a coffin" He smiled

"Will do" Sonak said then she nodded where ready

Majeski hit the release button and watched the mass hulk canaplut forward out into space Majeski looked in awe "F*** me we actually fit a soverigen In that thing , good speed sonak " He said ot himself

"Thank you commander, and to you too," Sonak said, as the Vesuvius sped out of the system. "All hands this is the captain, there will be a staff meeting in briefing room two in thirty minutes. I want you all to dig up any information your department has on Cardassians, and in particular Cardassian and Klingon relations."

-- briefing room two --

Sonak sat down and waited for her senior staff to file in. As soon as everyone sat, she turned on the computer. "We are going to perform a rescue operation. The Cardassians have attacked a Klingon freighter, who has issued a general distress. I want your input on how to perform this operation. The USS Black Tulip is standing by, ready to come to our aid. Something is fishy here, since the Cardassians would not attack the Klingons without reason. Well, nearly not without reason. We also need to find out what the Klingons were doing near the Cardassian Demiliterized Zone, shortly DMZ."

Spedmo sat and listened. "Captain. I have been brushing up on my history and the most recent star maps are ten years old Is that going to present a problem," he said sounding concerned.

"That should not present a problem mr Spedmo," Sonak replied, "But if you see any changes please give us a warning, and log the changes to the charts. Anything else?"

She looked around the table, hoping there would be more questions asked now and less later when it was too late to ask.

Lieutenant Claire Steenbergen -God, lieutenant- sat at the briefing table doing her best to keep her attention on the new mission. She sighed and apparently loud enough to disturb the ones sitting next to her. In her thoughts she rolled her eyes, but she was able to suppress that gesture. She felt like putting her feet on the table, making herself comfortable and starting to hum a nice song. But no, she had to pay attention. Thus, she crossed her arms and leaned back in her chair, the only form of getting comfortable that was morally allowed, and gave her last try to keep her attention.

Tactical analasys of the Cardassian Union:

Many years ago the Cardassians were known for their peacefullness and their spirituality. They lived for the land, with ideologies of cooperation and benevolence. The planet Cardassia Prime was plunged into an era of plauge and poverty. Out of this era came the military power known as the Cardassian Union.

All governments were then unified under one single tyrannical, fascist body where masses were put second in favour of industry, expansion, and conquest.

For five centuries, the governing authority of the Union has been the Detapa Council, which encompasses its two principal agencies The Central Command -the military, and The Obsidian Order -security. The military employs the common structure of the chain of command, with a Legate being approximate to an Admiral, a Gul a Captain, and a Glinn a Commander or Lieutenant.

The Order makes it mandatory for each Cardassian citizen to have a molar extracted in childhood for cataloguing purposes, and all are kept on record as a means of identification, and to some degree nearly all adult citizens are scrutinized, tracked and observed. Security and control is strict, and internal surveillance is as big a part of normal operations as foreign espionage.

In the 24th century the Union was involved in a drawn out conflict with the UFP. Ever since first contact with this organization during the Bajoran occupation, mutual mistrust and disagreements over territory had been common place. The war effort cost the Union very dearly, as the fleets were severely depleted, resources became low, and hundreds of thousands were lost.

On the verge of defeat, a truce was reached and new non-aggression treaties agreed on. It was not something the Union was happy to offer, it was little better than a surrender, but it was absolutely necessary if they were to regroup and move forward. It was a political decision that saved the Cardassian Union.

After the war was over, and the treaties were signed, a special 'Demilitarized Zone' was installed.

In 2372, a civilian coup overpowered the military, and the Detapa Council ended up taking sole charge of Union affairs. It was feared by external onlookers that Dominion spies, in the way shapeshifters had taken control, and the Klingon Empire decided to act quickly and invade Cardassia to take control of the situation.

Gul Dukat soon took the leadership of the Union upon himself and in secret forged the unholiest of alliances with the Dominion. Such a union, he thought, could only make Cardassia stronger, possibly invincible. The inevitable war which followed began well for the new alliance, but things soon started to turn sour, as the Union found themselves to be in a similar position to the Bajorans, as Cardassia was occupied and their fleets and resources were arbitrarily exploited and squandered.

The Cardassian people now nurse the ruins of an empire left ravaged by the war. It will take a huge effort to rebuild their cities and reestablish industry with a strong economy, these are priorities that come before the reconstruction of the fleet. It may be some time until The Cardassian Union becomes a viable power once again.

Sonak nodded. "Thank you Lieutenant. I can see that you spent a lot of time gathering this information" she said. Nick tried to keep his flustered cheeks under control. This was his first report and to gain praise from the Captain was good news indeed. "Thank you ma'am" he replied.
'So far so good' she was thinking to herself. She was pleased with how the junior officers were presenting information from their departments. She looked around the table at her officers, all sitting expectantly and perhaps a little nervously in their seats. She spun her seat around to face the CMO. "Doctor Reckus. Would you be so kind as to give us any information as to the state of health of the Cardassians?"she asked. Reckus stood up "It would be a pleasure Captain" he replied.

He addressed his fellow officers. "I know most of you will know this but let's start with the basic physiology and anatomy of the Cardassians" he started.
"Right, with regards to physical stature the Cardassians are tall, long-necked and humanoid in appearance. Their bodies are marked by several bony protrusions and ridges: one from the shoulder to under the ears, whose bottom lobes in turn are more pronounced forward to the jawline, and from above the eyes and back over the head to the rear base of the skull, showing through hair. Despite this they possess a limited exoskeleton and other ridges run from the nose line to the forehead, and along the chin to define a sharp jawline. This gives them a damage resistance and they are slightly harder to kill then other species.

Their skin type and hair vary from light purple to a greenish hue and near black.

They have a high tolerance to heat and they have also developed night vision. If the ambient temperature is lower than that that they are used to then they find it extremely uncomfortable. Likewise they cannot stand anywhere that is too bright for their eyes.

The most serious known illness to the Cardassians is the YARIM-FEL SYNDROME. This terminal illness attacks the digestive tract; circulatory and respiratory centres and it also ravages cartilaginous tissue. With no known cure, the symptons of the sufferer can be alleviated by using a neuro regeneration processess' and hexagen therapy.

That is the end of my report Captain".

"I see you have done your homework Mr Reckus," Sonak said, and looked around the table.

When there were no more questions she dismissed the meeting and walked out of the room. Just outside she caught Jatan by his sleeve. "Are the result from the physical in yet?" she asked, "the medication you gave me helps but I feel it is not going away."

After her talk with Reckus she continued her way to the bridge. "What is the status of the two vessels?" she asked, as she sat down in her chair. The two vessels seemed to be still facing each other, but the Cardassians were no longer firing on the Klingon vessel.

"Klingon vessel, this is Captain Sonak of the Federation Starship Vesuvius, can we be of assistance?"

"Cardassian vessel, stand down your attack, you are in Federation territory."

"Ma'am the Klingons communication array is down. We're recieving comms on an antiquated radio sygnal."

"Patch it through lieutenant."

"Vesuvius, this is Captain Kron of the IKF HIvje'. We request you dispatch of these Cardassian *comminications begins to fuzz*....be careful Captain. There is more here than meets the eye."

Sonak looked over at Nick.
"Martens, open a channel to the Cardassian warship."

"Cardassian vessel, stand down your attack, you are in Federation territory."

The screen flickered to life with the face of a Cardassian Gul. Behind him officers ran to and fro on tasks unknown to the officers of the Vesuvius.

"I am Gul Mirak. State your business."

As the captain began to negociate with the Mirak Nick began monitoring the two ships in front of them. The klingon vessel was obviously out of commision despite being very heavily armed for a frieghter. The Cardassian ship was virtually unscathed which seemed very odd. He scanned the Klingon armorments, sure enough there were more than enough weapons systems to take out the Guls cruiser.

"We lay claim to this sector and the Klingons were simply in our way. And now you are in our way."

"You have no grounds for this Mirak. The Union lost the war, go home and lick your wounds." Sonak challenged

The Gul was very agitated by that jest.
"You speak so confidently. I hope you'll reconsider leaving before this gets uncomfortable for you."

Sonak looked over her shoulder at Nick. "How much of a threat are they?"

"Not too much. We have a slight advantage in the new weapon upgrades from last month."

Tha Captain turned back to the screen to call the Guls supposed bluff.

Nick kept surveying the situation on his sensors. There suddenly appeared tachyon emmisions off their port and starboard bow. A sinking feeling fell over him. He looked over at the ops officer who had noticed the same readings. Both looked at each other wide eyed.

"Umm Ma'am?" Nick stampered. "We may have a problem."

Soank waved back at Nick for him to mute the channel. Gul Mirak was still on the screen and watched the crews reactions.
"What Lieutenant?"

"We're not alone."
A puzzled look flashed across Sonaks face.

"You see Captain,"Mirak started,"you may want listen to your tactical officer. What he will tell you is that you out gun my cruiser. Just as the Klingon ship did. However you do not out gun my fleet."

With that word 2 ships decloaked. One had a minor plasma leak on one of its engines obviosly from the Klingons.

"Two Keldon Class battle ships decloaking."

"Red Alert!!"

As soon as Reckus walked through the doors into sickbay the call for red alert came through. 'Now what?' he thought to himself. Ensign Caldwell approached him with a PADD in his hand. "Red alert has just been called Doctor. Apparently some ships have just decloaked." Reckus took the PADD "Oh great. Well good job we're ready for action then isn't it?" with a wry smile he looked down at the information contained infront of him - the results of the crew's medicals. As Ensign Caldwell walked off towards the desk by the window, Jatan called to him "Clean bill of health again Ensign, you are disgustingly healthy John!" "Thank you Sir, yes Sir" mocked Caldwell, and made up an elaborate salute to emphasise the joke. Both burst out laughing, and each returned to their respective stations. Reckus was still chuckling to himself as he sat at his desk. Sometimes, when it was appropriate, it was good to have a laugh at work; it broke the tension that sometimes could be present in the atmosphere. And because sickbay was pehaps not utilised as much as the other areas of the ship, it gave Jatan a much easier time then some of his colleagues. But as soon as the casalties - minor or major - started to come through the door, it was back to being the ultimate professional in the field.
"Computer, please display the medical record of Caldwell, J. Ensign"
The computer beeped and bought up Ensign Caldwells file. Jatan opened it and began to download the results of the medical into Caldwell's file. As much as he loved being CMO, he didnt enjoy all the paperwork.
"End record. Authorisation Code Reckus one one five theta"
beep. authorisation code accepted. record updated

His attention returned to the PADD, and he scrolled down to Sonak's results. He looked through the information that was on there, and as he did so a smile started to spread across his face. 'Just as I expected' he thought to himself.

He tapped his Comm badge =^= Sickbay to the bridge =^=
=^= Sonak here, go ahead Doctor =^=
=^= Just to let you know Sickbay is ready on full alert. Oh and Captain when you get a minute, please would you come to see me in my office? Reckus out =^=

Sonak wondered why she was called down to sickbay again. She shared a surprised glance with Fox and stood up. =^= on my way doctor =^=

She turned to Fox. "You got the bridge Number One," she said. She had asked Reckus earlier if there were any results in yet and he had shaken his head in denial.

She walked down to sickbay, annoyed by the blaring of the red alert claxons and the red lights. "You called doctor?" she called, as soon as she entered.

Sonak saw Reckus busy in his office, occupied with reading PADD's so she reckoned the doctor had not heard her. She walked up to the office and knocked on the door. "Doctor?" she asked again, "you called? The ship is on full alert so I really cannot stay very long. We are about to be attacked by a Cardassian fleet."

Spedmo couldn't believe what was happening. Cardassians in Federation space the thought bothered the android. "Red alert all hands to battle stations," Sonak hed said. Spedmo was moving with lighting quickness. He stopped for a second to register the sensor readings. A grin spread on his mechanical face. "Commander Fox I have some good news. The Black Tulip is two and a half minutes away and coming fast," he said with glee.

The ship shuddered as the Cardassians started firing on the Vesuvius as though they were of one mind.

"Shields!" Sonak cried as she was slammed back into her seat on the next salvo, "engineering, we need more power to our defensive systems."

"Seliv here," her bondmate replied from engineering, "we are doing the best we can captain but we are facing a few problems of our own."

"The best is all I ask," Sonak replied. Her bondmate had no rank but since the current CEO had vanished, and the assistant engineer was sick, he was the best they had under the circumstances.

The ship shuddered again. "Sonak to Black Tulip, we could use your assistance. We are under attack from three Cardassian vessels all capable of cloaking. We are trying to defend a Klingon freighter." She turned to Dean. "Evasive maneuvers, pattern Gamma! Keep our bow to the Cardassians and our stern to the freighter!"

<after sickbay reply>

Spedmo worked furiously to keep up with the orders Commander Fox and Captain Sonak were barking. "Captain Sonak in a moment we will beam you here. In the mean time keep yourself in the way of the cardassians," Elron said in a loud voice. Spedmo watched in awe as he saw the Black Tulip move into the path of the Cardassian ships. The Tulip was doing moves thought to be impossible. Bema is a graet pilot. Even when he is doing moves people think a Soverign Class ship should not do he thought to himself as he saw two cardassian ships explode. "Enginerring to bridge we have a serrious problem," the enginerring officer said.

Kate slithered through the engineering department. Sloan had taught her to be silent and stealthy not matter the cost. She would honor her mentors memory by following his teachings. The Section 31 operative had shown her ideas and concepts she would have never dreamed of. But now he was gone because of some officers on Deep Space 9.

She glanced down at the device she held in her hands. A series of buttons and a display lined the side of the 10 pound device. She pressed one button and it whirred to life. Silently she walked over to the anti-matter storage units and began placing a series of the devices on each pod.

The door behind her began to whoosh open. She hid behind one of the containers and cautiously watched the new arrival. In strode Chief Engineer Seliv carrying a matinence case. He glanced around the room and immediatly noticed the devices attached to the pods. With a look of concern he walked over to one and hit his combadge. "Bridge I think we may..." *THUD* His body collapsed to the floor after a blow to the back of the head.

Kate activated the timers on the devices and returned to her quarters via jefferies tubes as not to arouse suspicion.

There laying on the floor was Seliv. His eyes stared off at nothing. A pool of green blood slowly puddled under his head. His combadge beeped. =/\="Seliv, are you there? Seliv respond!=/\=

The timers quickly reached zero and detonated their payloads.

------on the bridge-------

Nick stood at tactical. They had systematicly destroyed 2 of the three Cardassian warships with the help of the Black Tulip. Now they were concentrating on disabling the last as to salvage it experimental Transwarp drive.
The last salvo from the Vesuvius knocked out the power on the Cardy ship. A cheer rose up from the crew.

"Incoming communication from the Tulip."

"On screen."

"Very well done captain! We're sending boarding partys now to retrieve the Transwarp drive. Elron out."

=/\=Bridge I think we may...=/\= came from Seliv.

Just as the Captain began to respond a low rumble spread through the ship. It quickly turned into a violent shudder. Sparks flew from consoles and systems began flickering.

"What the hell!" Nick blurted from Tactical as his station died.

Ops started yelling out damage reports.

Suddenly the computer broke in.

"Core breach in progress. Cascade reaction faliure in 5 minutes."

"Prepare for saucer separation!" Sonak shouted over the tumult, after reports had told her that the release clamps for the core had been sabotaged. The core could not be ejected so a saucer separation was the only choice to save the crew.

"All hands proceed into the saucer section. Separation will be complete in two minutes." She glanced at Martens. "Can we contain the breach until then?"

Sonak sat down in her chair restlessly. Something was amiss but she could not figure out what. Two minutes later she felt the clamps release the drive section of the Vesuvius. "Ahead full impulse," she ordered, "put some distance between us and the drive section." She tapped the arm of her chair. "Sonak to Elron, keep distance between you and our drive section, it will explode."

She watched the screen as she saw the drive section explode. She uttered a scream as she felt something snap in the back of her mind. "Seliv!" she screamed, falling down on her knees, clutching her head. What she had felt was the mental bond between her and her bondmate that was snapped when the section exploded.

Seliv had remained behind, overlooked by the crew because the saboteur had carefully hidden his unconscious body, therefor disabling the crew to find him.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Sorry Captain, I didnt hear you there. Please take a seat" apologised Reckus. Sonak sat down opposite him, trying to register any sense of emotion that may be given away in his face.
"Doctor, I cannot stay long. Things are getting somewhat hairy out there" she said. "Dont worry Captain, I understand" he replied. He picked up the PADD from his desk, and accessed her results again. "Well I'll keep this as short as possible. You're results are back from the tests that we did earlier" he said. Sonak shifted in her seat slightly. "And all the tests all came back fine, you are in perfectly good health Sonak" he continued. "However, it did highlight something that is the reason why you have been feeling so lethargic and nauseaous recently. It also confirms my original thoughts."
He paused momentarily, not for effect but to let his mind focus on what he was going to tell her.
"Captain, you are pregnant" he said finally. "I'd say between 6-8 weeks gone" he added, studying her reaction...........

--- back post to before explosion ---

Sonak sat back on her chair and actually smiled. "Pregnant?" she asked, "I should have guessed that. Do you know what it will be yet?"

She wondered if it would be too soon to tell, 2 months was not exactly much. Despite the hectic of the current mission she was happy with it.

"Thank you for telling me doctor," she said as she stood up, "please keep sickbay at alert, we may be sustaining casualties very soon."

<reckus>

--- present ---

Sonak looked up from her kneeling position, her face tearstreaked from grief. "Status," she managed, as she crept back into her seat. "amage reports from all departments as soon as possible please, and I would like a casualty report. Contact the Black Tulip, we will be needing their assistance."

She sat back and gazed at the screen, oblivious to the reports shouted down at her from all directions. She grieved her husband, knowing his katra was lost forever. What was she going to tell her young children? And the child now growing within her? That child would never know his or her biological father. She knew that Seliv wanted her to find a new mate after a suitable grieving period, they had discussed this when they were bonded. If she had died first, he would find a new mate and raise their children, now this task befell on her.

Leaking plasma conduits, sparking controll panels and flashing lights surrrounded a figure sitting behind a desk her legs folded up agaist her trunk and her arms round her head and ears as if she was trying to ignore the screaming sounds of panick. While tears rolled over her cheeks, she was gently rocking her body, maybe trying to comfort herself. If one would step closer, a humming sound could be distinguished and if that one was also very attentive he could hear it was a Bajoran lovesong.

<<All hands proceed into the saucer section. Separation will be complete in two minutes.>>

People were running down the corridor, but Claire stayed down, almost silently rocking. Then someone suddenly stopped. A panting young man kneeled beside her.
"Come on, this part of the ship is gonna blow, let's go."
Claire stopped humming and looked up. The man's face immediately turned into an uncomfortable look that didn't hide his pity as he saw the tear tracks on the lieutenant's face.

"It's no use..." was all she said, but she let the young man pull her up.

pre explosion
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reckus looked up at her. "Not currently, no" he answered. "It would be maybe another 6 weeks I would have thought. Maybe less than that, but we will be monitoring you anyway. Would you want to know the sex?" he asked. Sonak nodded. "It would be nice, yes Jatan".
"Well like I say, I will be monitoring you and trying to sort something out if the current situation worsens" he replied. Sonak went to turn towards the door, stopped and turned back to face Reckus. "thank you doctor, as always you've been kind and corteous. Will you let me know when you will need to see me again?" she asked. "Certainly Sonak. I will work out the dates and then call for you, or leave you the dates in advance"
"Thank you Jatan, I would appreciate that."
Sonak walked towards the door. "Oh Sonak..." called Reckus after her. "Please look after yourself. Its not just yourself that you have to think about now. And I dont want to have to pull you out at any time" he added.
Sonak nodded and walked out of sickbay.

<present>

Reckus stood and looked at Sonak. A couple of hours previously he had given her the news that she was expecting another child, and now that was all she had to cling onto Seliv. He looked to his left and saw Ensign Caldwell. They exchanged looks and Reckus nodded. Reckus returned his gaze at the Captain, who sat with her head in her hands........

It was pandimonium on the bridge. Spedmo was sad that the ship he had been serving on had just been destroyed. He smiled at the amazing abilities of his counterpart on the Tulip. "Captain all but one of the crew made it. I am sorry but Commander Seliv did not make it," Spedmo said. "Thank you lieutenant," she replied.

Her hands still pressed against her face, grieving, Sonak got up from the deck and clambered back into her chair. "Signal the Black Tulip we will do what we can still to complete our mission," she said, her voice flat and devoid from emotion, "what is the status of the remaining Cardassian vessel? And that of the Klingon Freighter?" She looked up at Dean, and then at Skok. "How many of our civillian crew can that freighter hold? Get me the captain of that freighter. All non-essential personnel will be beamed over to that freighter. The Klingons will bring them back to starbase bellicose, and then we will finish our job."

Her eyes flashed with anger as she returned her gaze towards the remaining Cardassian Vessel. "I want to know who sabotaged my vessel and killed my husband. Who derived my children and my unborn of their father. That someone will pay, I promise you."

Claire leaned on the man's shoulder, she didn't even know his name. But he was kind and he brought her back to her senses. He's right, she thought when she saw the debris through a window and wounded people everywhere. Let's do something.

She turned towards the young man: "Thanks for bringing me here, eum, ..."

"Lieutenant Ryan, Steve Ryan, you're the new counselar I presume?"

Claire flushed: "Some counselor huh, sitting back there scared to death."

"Well, it happens to all of us, I understand."

"Thanks you're very kind." She sighed. "I think I will be needed on the bridge, bye!"

"Wait..."

"My name is Claire Steenbergen." She knew he was going to ask that, and indeed, as one would look at his face, a satisfied smile could be seen.

-------on the bridge---------
The door swooshed open. Claire looked around, and immediately her senses were drawn to the captain. Although she's not of an empathic species, there clearely hung a strong sense of pain in the air, not physical pain, but it came close to that. Claire couldn't really define what exactly it was she was experiencing. No-one had noticed her entering the bridge. Then the captain said something that made Claire step forward.

"I want to know who sabotaged my vessel and killed my husband. Who derived my children and my unborn of their father. That someone will pay, I promise you."

"Captain," Claire said which made Sonak turn towards the counselar: "I think it's better if you if you take some rest now."

The captain raised from her chair. Was that a bit of irritated anger in Sonak's glance?
Claire's noze started itching again, but she took a deep breath and soon the itching was gone:
"I believe you are not objective anymore. I strongly advise you to leave your post to your first officer on grounds of personel involvement. You will not let this ship take unnecessarily risks."

Sonak raised an eyebrow: "Well, is my new, young counselor putting me of duty?"

"No, I'm merely advising you to do so yourself. This crew is tired and wounded, the ship is broken, how can you expect of them to follow your orders for your revenge?"

The Vulcan captain took a moment to think and controll her emotions, only a little moment but it was there.

"It is merely my duty to investigate this attack."

"And it is mine to advice you that now is not the good time."

"So noted lieutenant," Sonak said, her voice flat but anger was clearly audible, "but I believe I am in command here, and the only one that can relieve me of duty is the chief medical officer."

She glared in Reckus' direction, hoping he would keep his thoughts to himself. She was in no mood to be critisized.

"Anyting else counselor?" she asked icily, "if not then I would like the security teams to find out who sabotaged my ship."

Claire knew this was comming, but it was the only thing she could do.

"Fine, you're in command after all, and again, I know I can't relieve you from duty, but I can strongly advice you to do it."

Then Claire prepared herself to leave the bridge:

"Oh, and Captain, just this: Don't expect me to follow your orders in full agreement."

And she left the bridge to go where people did need her.

"Fine," Sonak snapped, as she returned her gaze to the screen, then turned sideways to face Fox. "Have you been able to raise the Klingons yet? I might just beam everyone to their vessel. Senior staff is to remain behind." Her gaze softened as she saw the shocked expression on her friends face. "Do you think I am mad to do this?" Her gaze went around the bridge, locking eyes with everyone present. "Do you all?"

Nick stood as if the world had just ended. His face was white and hands shaking. They'd just eluded death. The captain seemingly in a rage began pacing the bridge.

"Do you think I am mad to do this?" Her gaze went around the bridge, locking eyes with everyone present. "Do you all?"

"No ma'am," echoed from around her.

Sonak walked over to Nick station and grabbed him by the collar of his shirt. Her eyes glowed with rage over what had just ocured.

"Find whoever did this! I wan't them to pay for what they've done here!"

Nick nodded quickly. She let go of him and turned back to her chair. With a shudder he hit his badge and called up what remained of his security team.

Reckus surveyed the scene before him. Even role play using the most sophisticated computer generated results could not have prepared him for this. Before the explosion he and Ensign Caldwell had managed to grab everything that they could from Sickbay. Still it didnt really amount to much.
Sonak was sat in her chair, still in a state of shock. Commander Fox was also in a state of disbelief. Reckus knew that his Captain was strong but the current situation could prove to be too much, even for her Vulcan mind.
He swallowed hard and walked towards her. "Captain?" Sonak looked up, 2 red puffy eyes staring wildly at him through a face smeared with soot and tracks from her tears. "What am I to do Jatan?" she asked. Reckus smiled gently at her. "Do you think that I am mad, and that I need to be relieved of my duty?" she continued. Reckus shook his head "No ma'am, I do not believe you to be anything other than of sound mind" he replied. "But I need you to understand that my concern is not only to yourself but to the little one that you carry at the moment". She nodded in agreement "I want to find who did this despicable act of terror. But I promise you that I will do so with a clear mind and sound judgement. No matter what my heart may tell me" she said. "The last thing I want to do is to relieve you of your command. Please help me so that I dont have to do it" he pleaded. In her eyes he could see some emotion as she agreed to try to remain calm.

"Try to remain calm." Sonak repeated in her thoughts. "Commander you have the bridge." She said to Fox who knodded at her. Then she walked to her readyroom, sat down in a chair and ordered the replicator to make her a tea.

After a while she tabbed her com-babge. "Sonak to Fox, come to my readyroom." "Yes, Ma'am." Fox replied "Fox out..."

Fox stood up, looked arround and gave command to Dean and walked to the readyroom. When he entered he saw Sonak sitting in her chair. "How can i help you?" Fox asked.

"I want to ask you a favor..." Sonak started. "Anything. Just ask." Fox interrupted. Then Sonak explained she wanted to do a mind-meld with him, to try to remain calm and take her thoughts off the loss of her bond-mate Seliv. Fox agreed, he would do anything to help her.

The two of them sat down, facing eachother. Then Fox took Sonaks hands and placed them on his face. She did the same with his. While doing to Sonak says "Your mind to my mind. Your thoughts to my thoughts." And both drift off in thoughts.

After a while, Sonak pulled back from the meld and actually managed a smile. "Thank you Fox, I will never forget this. For now I should be fine, your friendship helped me accept this loss somewhat. Now, I would like your suggestions on how to handle this situation."

She paused, gazing in the distance as she idly held her cup of tea. "I still want all non-essential personnel to be beamed over to the Klingon vessel, so that they can be transported to Starbase, where they will be safe. We have to try and end this conflict with the Cardassians, and we need the Black Tulip to assist us after they have retrieved the transwarp unit."

Together they walked back onto the damaged bridge, where damage control teams were working to repair as much damage as possible. Sonak walked over to Reckus and gave him a sad smile. "I am sorry for my behaviour before," she said, and looked around, "I also owe Ms Steenbergen an appology, would you find her for me? I do not wish to leave the bridge at such a crucial time."

Reckus nodded "apology accepted". He was never one to really bare a grudge anyway. He smiled back at Sonak "please don't worry." he continued, squeezing her shoulder gently. "This whole mess will get sorted, and justice will be done". Sonak looked around her "I certainly hope so Doctor, I cannot let the people that did this get away with it." She sat back in her chair, this time rubbing her temples in thought. "Please find Counsellor Steenbergen for me. I think we are both owed an apology from the other". "Very well Captain although I cannot approve of the tone that she took." Reckus replied. "That sort of thing is not on." he added. "Jatan, I will deal with that but I am glad that you noted her tone too. Things will be fine, honestly." Sonak again managed a brief smile at Reckus to let him know that she was a bit more relaxed than before.
Reckus left the bridge in search of Claire.....

Claire sat on a table in the messhall, which luckily wasn't blown away. A racktajino stood in front of her, still untouched. Her gaze was staring in front of her, she seemed thoughtless.
Jatan Reckus had a feeling she might be here, though he didn't get any help from the computer as the comsystems were temorarily down.

"Lieutenant Steenbergen, the captain expects you on the bridge," Reckus said to her.

After a moment Claire decided to look in the doctors face. Then smiled unecpectadly:

"So doctor how are you?"

"I think you heard me counselor, it's urgent."

"Hmm, then what do you think about all this? Do you think the captain is wisely acting?"

The doctor was getting irritated by the pretence of the young counselor.

"You are ignoring the captain's orders, I suggest you'd go to the bridge right now."

"I understand, you think it's ok huh? Well, I suggest she'd come here and tell her herself what she wants."

"What's the matter with you?" Jatan was really getting enough of this, "I think you owe our captain an apology!"

"Hah, and she is our holy captain, I assume..." Claire's eyes gistened wickedly, she didn't seem to be herself anymore. She stood up:

"You know what, doctor, maybe I should go to her, yes..." Claire seemed thinking and then she left, looking calm. The Jatan stared after her when she left. He had some concerning thoughts about the counselor.

"Captain! 3 ships entering the sector at high warp!"Nick blurted out as he read his scorched console.

Could this day get any worse? Her bond mate dead, her ship crippled and now more ships warping in. Sonak groaned from the command chair.

"I'm getting two Galor class and a Sovireign class. It's the Lone Wolf!"

Sonak looked up from her hands in bewilderment. The Wolf was in permanent drydock and wasn't an active ship in the fleet. Now it was flying at high warp with two Galor in pursuit.

"Incoming communication."

"On screen." Sonak said standing and regaining what little comporsure she had.

"This is Commander Majeski of the Lone Wolf. We're here to help!"

Her gaze brightening, Sonak got up from her chair and actually smiled a little. "I think the tides just turned," she said, "Mr Majeski I never thought I would say this but you are a sight for sore eyes. Are you able to hold my civilian crew so that the senior staff can engage into battle? This ship is not done yet and I am not done and I will not give in too easily."

She gave a wide grin at Fox, who looked equally surprised as she felt. The Lone Wolf was far from space worthy but in her current condition, the Vesuvius was in worse shape than the ship that just came to their rescue. "I think we have not yet faced our worst commander," she said, "but the best thing that happened in this mission so far is coming to a halt right in front of our bow."

The door swooshed open, again nobody was paying attention to the arriving counselor. Claire sighed. Although she saw the captain was busy talking with the captain of the Lone Wolf, Steenbergen walked up to her and interupted her:

"So, Captain, you wished to see me?"

Sonak waved her off. "In a minute Lieutenant, wait in my readyroom. This is important."

She did not look to see if the counselor actually moved off or remained. Instead, ignored the counselor, though she really did need to talk to the young woman. "Commander Majeski, normally I would invite you over but currently we are short of space. THe ship is in shambles and we are barely able to keep her afloat, so to speak. I am sure you would have wanted to come back to your own turf but I promise you that you will come over later, when this is over. I will owe you a dinner then."

She turned back to Steenbergen. "I thought I asked you to wait in my readyroom. Please follow me." The two women entered the ready room and Sonak remained silent, waiting for Steenbergen to react her anger off. She could see the young woman was troubled but she felt it could never be as bad as her own trouble.

Claire looked straight in the captain's eyes. Her anger was tempered, for now.

"So the doctor told me I was needed here..." Claire tried as innocent as possible.

A silence. The captain raised an eyebrown. " D on't you think you crossed the line back there?"

Claire grinned: "What line? That thingy you can't keep away from stepping over? It's not that I'm the only one who makes mistakes."

"So you admit that you were wrong?"

"Not quite. I believe one should cross the line when it's necessary."

"Well, I can quote that argument too."

"Yes," Claire seemed not too agitated, though her voice had a sarcastic tone, "but in your case you put the life of others at risk, unnecesarrily at risk."

Again, silence; captain Sonak seemed in thought.

"Yes so you said numerous times already," Sonak finally said, "but I do not believe that I did. We had no choice and if the ship was left in one piece all would have died. Now, sadly, or fortunately, we have only one casualty. There could have been many more."

Sonak regarded the young woman for a long moment. "You seem to have something else on your mind. Remember that I am not only your captain but that I may also be your friend. Anything you tell me in confindence remains that way, same as anything I tell you. You know from your own profession that talking helps, so tell me what is on your mind."

She sat down in her chair and invited Claire to sit in the other. Silently waiting for Claire to start speaking, she gazed out the window, looking at the debris from their own drive section. She felt a single tear slip from the corner of her eyes down her cheek as she grieved her husband once more. "If it is loss, you are not the only one who has lost," she whispered, closing her eyes, breathing in deeply.

Claire's nose tickled again, did she just saw something glistening in her eye...?
She sighed, again, she knew she was acting foolishly. And captain seemed at ease now, though a great sense of grief filled the room... and not only the captain's grief.
Claire's legs trembled and then she collapsed, luckily there was a chair neaar her where she could throw herself in. Her legs were no longer capable to support her. And no longer could she hide and keep up her tears. Now she realised how stupid she acted.
She let her salty tears flow, while the captain looked at her.

Sonak watched helplessly as her counselor broke into tears before her. She had sensed something was gnawing and knew she should have asked about it a long time ago, when she had first sensed it.

She pulled a tissue from a compartiment in her desk and silently handed it to Claire, then sat back down and watched the woman sob. "Sonak to Reckus, please come down to my readyroom. I think I may need your assistance here. Fox, it would be good if you joined the doctor for a moment. We have a problem."

=^= Sonak to Reckus, please come down to my readyroom. I think I may need your assistance here =^=

Reckus looked up from the desk that he had made his temporary triage area. He was quietly praying that there would be no more casualties anytime soon as there really was no room. Still smarting from Steenbergen's outburst he was in no mood for anything right now.

=^= Received Captain. I'm on my way now. =^=
He picked up his tricorder and case and stood up. "Ensign, please look after things here. I shall be in the Captain's ready room should you need me" he said. Ensign Caldwell nodded, and sat down in the chair.

Reckus walked through into Sonak's ready room and saw Sonak and Steenbergen on the floor and noticed that Claire was sobbing uncontrollably. "You called for me Captain?" he asked. Sonak sat up and looked at Reckus. He noticed that she had been crying too. "Yes Doctor" replied Sonak. "Please could you take a look at Lt. Steenbergen?"
Reckus nodded and pulled the tricorder out. As he proceeded to scan Claire he turned back to Sonak. "What happened Captain?"

"You ask me?" Sonak asked, clearly surprised, then realized that the doctor was meaning Claire's mood.

"Well she was in a state when she re-entered the bridge and started ranting at me, but I told her to take it into my readyroom. Once here I told her I would like to be her friend and that she could confide in me no matter what was wrong, and then she started sobbing. I have not been able to get a sensible word out of her. Can you give her something to calm her down?"

~I could use something to calm down. This has to end soon, real soon~

"Is Commander Fox on his way? I need him to lead the evacuation of the crew to the Lone Wolf. The senior staff will have to remain behind to tie up some loose ends."

"Yes he said he would be here as soon as he could". Reckus attention was drawn to the readings on the tricorder. Claire was lying at his feet, still sobbing. Sonak was trying to calm her as Jatan was scanning her.
"I think Ms Steenbergen may be suffering from some form of depression Captain. It may well have been bought on by the attack and the fact that is the first time that the Counsellor has been in an engagement and battle situation since leaving the academy...." he tailed off. "Who counsels the counsellors eh?" asked Sonak. Reckus smiled wistfully at the Captains observation. He re opened the case that he had brought with him and selected a green vial and the hypospray. "This should help to calm down Claire a little. It's a derivitive of Valium" he said. Sonak nodded.
As Reckus injected Claire with the spray, her breathing slowed and quietened and she stopped sobbing. "I think she needs to be relieved of her duty Captain. You know I hate to do this...." "I know Jatan, I know. I will have her beamed out with the non essential personnel" interrupted Sonak. Reckus nodded "Ensign Caldwell can look after her then and monitor her" he replied.

The door of the ready room opened and in walked Commander Fox. "How may I help Captain?" he asked, not failing to notice Claire lying on the floor.....

Claire felt warm and fuzzy... She looked around and saw somebody kneeling beside her. She put out her hand to touch the person's face.

"Heeeeeeeey," she seemed... happy?, "it's you captain!"
She giggled.
The captain was a bit surprised of the woman's touch, but took her hand and placed it neatly on Claire's thy.
"Come let my help you up," Sonak said while she tried to pull the counselor back up to her feet.
However the counselor was not at all cooperating.

Reckus sighed. "Maybe it's better to beam her out, she's too calm and lame now from the valium, apparently she's quite sensitive to it."

"I'm not going anywhere." Claire cried like a baby and then she took her combadge and smashed it on the ground. "Leave me alone," and she pushed away captain Sonak. Luckily she was very weak and Vulcans are strong. Sonak just took a step backward.

Sonak looked at Reckus somewhat bemused. Perhaps Claires bajoran physiology needed sedating more....
Reckus drew up another vial of the Valium type injection and sprayed it into Claire's arm. This time it had the desired effect and Claire slipped into a soft unconsciousness. "I really wish I had a sickbay" said Reckus. "I am going to have to find somewhere to monitor her Captain" he continued. Sonak nodded. "Agreed. Let's see if we can find somewhere to put her for the time being."

"As a matter of fact," Sonak finally said, "you can use my readyroom for your practice. It is a private room, probably the most private one left on the ship, what is left of her."

She looked up at Fox, who had remained at the door, overlooking the conversation between the doctor and the captain quietly. "Anything to report?" she asked, "is the Lone Wolf ready to receive our crew?"

Nick stood at his station for the 29th strait hour. A large yawn escaped as he stuggled to cover his mouth. The adrenaline was slowly wearing off. He hit the button on his consol to call up his replacement.
Ensign Ortega walked up and replaced him. "Get some rest, you look like you've been to hell and back."
Nick smirked and patted his compadre on the shoulder.

The turbo lift ride seemed shorter than normal. Mind you half the ship was missing so that could've been it. He walked out into the hall and made his way to the preschool to check on Yannis. As he walked he looked at the distraught faces of the crew. Every couple meters or so was a family setting up their own camp for the night.
Lighting was dimmed and sections of the walls had burned out. Finally he came to the school.

Yannis came bolting towards him. "addy Daddy!!"

"Hey kiddo! Haveing another one of your adventures?"

"Yep!" she said with a yawn.

"I think it's time for your bed time."

"Ahh," she wined and buried her head into his shoulder. He nodded to the officer in charge. She smiled and went back to attending to T'Kimi and Sevus.

"Lets go find mommy," said to Yannis.

~~~~5 mins later~~~~
Kate lay on the bed. Her head throbbed from the shockwave impact. The icepack on the side of her face kinda helped but not too much. Nick and Yannis walked into the room.
"Night mommy."
"Nick munchkin." Kate said hugging her daughter. "Off to bed."
The little one groaned and sauntered off to her room.
"What happened to you!?" Nick asked with concern.
"I was down visiting Irene Dobson when the blast happened. A piece of the cieling fell and hit me." She pulled away the ice pack to reveal half her face was black and blue. "I don't remember much before or after that. It's all a haze."
Nick walked over to the replicator and called up some native herbs from Tandar mixed into tea. He passed the glass over to Kate who winced at the flavor. "I havn't had this stuff in ages." She joked.
"It'll help with the pain."He comforted.
Kate leaned over into her husbands arms and started sobbing.
"It'll be ok, everything is going to be fine." He rubbed her back softly.
"Thank you Captain, I appreciate that" replied Reckus. Sonak nodded "No problem, you need it more than I do".
=^= Captain to Bridge. Ensign Caldwell, please could you come to my ready room =^=
=^= Yes ma'am, on my way =^=
The door of the ready room swished open and Caldwell walked in. Sonak and Fox watched as the two men scooped Claired up gently and lay her in a corner of the ready room, muttering to each other as they did so.
"Sorry Commander, you were going to say?" as Sonak turned back to Fox.......
<the Martens quarters>
------------------------------------------------------------------------
"It'll all be ok" repeated Nick. His wife continued to sob gently. "I just want this nightmare to be over" she finally managed to get her words out. Nick gently kissed her forehead. "Listen, I don't know how he managed it but Commander Majeski got the Lone Wolf to us. They will help us." Kate managed a weak smile.
"You get some sleep darling. You look so tired" said Nick as he stroked her hair. "I am so sleepy. I can't really keep my eyes open. They feel like they're burning" she replied as she lay her head on the pillow. Nick stayed with her as she drifted off. Although he had been on duty for so long, and his body ached for sleep, he did not yet feel ready to get into bed. He went and sat by the comfy chair by the window and gazed out into the vast space in front of him. At least they still had their quarters....unlike some poor souls on the ship. As he slowly dozed off thoughts of Cardassians and Klingons and explosions played through his mind......
<Later>
------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Daddy, Daddy!" Nick woke up to feel his sleeve being tugged by Yannis. "huh?!" he mumbled, trying to focus on his daughter. "Whats the matter darling?" he managed to ask. "Mommy's not waking up, and I even jumped on her! Is she playing a game?" she replied. The words jolted Nick to life immediately as he raced out of the chair and towards the bed. Kate was still lying in bed, apparently asleep. He tried shaking her and calling her name to rouse her. Panic suddenly entered his mind but somehow he pushed it aside.
=^= Nick Martens to Lt. Reckus =^=
<Captains readyroom>
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reckus and Caldwell were exhausted. They had been up and down treating people since the explosion and it was really taking it's toll. They both sat near Steenbergen, backs resting against the wall. "Jatan, you get some rest, I'll cover for a while" said Caldwell eventually. Jatan looked at Caldwell, and then at Claire's peaceful form. "No, you were on duty well before I. I will take first watch" he replied. Caldwell nodded and made Reckus promise to wake him when or if required. Jatan watched as Caldwell dropped off, and found himself leaning his head back against the wall momentarilly closing his eyes. It wa so quiet, save for Fox and Sonak talking in the background........
=^= Nick Martens to Lt. Reckus =^=
Yep, too good to be true he thought to himself....typical.
He tapped his comm badge =^= Reckus here. Go ahead Nick =^=
=^= Doctor please come quickly to our quarters, it's Kate =^= Nicks voice was almost wobbling as he spoke.
Reckus grabbed the tricorder and medical kit.
=^= Don't panic Nick. I'll be straight there =^= he said as he was already racing out the door towards the turbolift.
For Jatan, sleep would have to wait.........
Nick sat on the bed cradeling his wife in his arms. He whispered softly in her ear and stroked her hair gently.
"You're going to be ok. I'm not going to lose you a second time." he said softly, voice wavering.
A chime came as someone was at the door. "Come." little Yannis chidded.
In walked Jatan with a medkit. He imediatly went to scanning Kate. Within seconds his tricorder began beeping histericly. He pulled out a hypospray and dispensed it into her neck. Little Yannis stood clinging to her daddys arm wondering what was going on.
"Is she ok daddy?"
"She'll be ok." Jatan comforted with a "this is serious" glance at Nick.
Nick looked down at his little girl and spoke softly in her ear. "Go find Trent. I'll help take care of mommy."
The little one looked up at him with glassy eyes, "ok."
Yannis ran off down the hall in search of her playmate.
Jatan walked over to Nick.
"She has massive internal injuries, a fractured skull, and a shattered cheek bone. We need to get her to the Lone Wolf as soon as possible. Theres not much I can do without the proper medical facilities. All I can really do is keep her comfortable and stable until then. But if we wait too long she might not make it."
Nick looked at the floor. A tear rolled down his face. Jatan put a hand on his friends shoulder. "It'll be ok, don't worry."
------knock-out Claire-------
Wind was blowing in Claire's waving hair. She sniffed, there was a fresh smell of wet grass. Then she noticed she was riding a white horse. She petted its neck and felt its body moving underneath her while he was galloping the steppe. Then suddenly the horse turned pink and it started to grow. And it became fatter.
Then she saw she was riding a fat elefant, a mad pink huge elefant. She was scared to death and then she fell from the elefant, not as she would expect on the soft wavy grass, but in an endless, dark pit.
Silence. Then two lights, they came closer, it were eyes, staring, cold, blue eyes. Then a faint light shone. It seemed candle light. Soft music began to play. The eyes were Xantcha's, Claire could clearly see her. Xatcha smiled, took Claire's hands and pressed her against her body. They started a dance, a waltz. They laughed.
Then, all of a sudden, Xantcha started laughing hysterically and her eyes turned black like ink. Claire, again terrified, started screaming.... aaaaaaaaah!
Again, Sonak had to interrupt her attempt at talking to her first officer when she hears a piercing scream coming from her readyroom. Both officers run towards the office and storm in, to find Claire lying thrashing on the floor and Caldwell unable to calm her down nor wake her.
Kneeling beside the thrashing woman, Sonak tries to wake her up gently, but when that failed, she told Caldwell to move aside. She gives Claire a firm slap on her cheek, causing the womans eyes to snap open and stare back at her in shock.
"I regret hitting you," Sonak said, "but you were a danger to Mr Caldwell. He tried to calm you but you nearly knocked him out. You were having a nightmare I believe. Would you care for something that helps you sleep or would you prefer to remain awake and assist the evacuation teams?"
She turned to Caldwell. "Do you think she is up to assisting in the evacuation? I believe Ms Steenbergen needs something to do, rather than sit still. It helps for me to be active, perhaps for her more so."
<-- In the ready room -->
Cardwell agreed with Sonak. "Yes, it might help." he said. Then looked to Claire, who nodded in agreement.
Then Sonak got back to Fox. "Well commander? Any news on the Lone Wolf?"
"Yes Captain, i've contacted them and they're ready to take our personell onboard. We only have to gather everyone and get them transported to the Lone Wolf."
"Make it so then." Sonak replied. "And Commander.. Claire will be helping you with the evacuation." Fox nodded. "Yes Ma'am" and walked back to the bridge.
<-- on the bridge -->
"Dean, we must gather all civilians and junior officers at our transporter rooms. You make sure everyone gets there and no one stays behind." Fox said.
"Yes, Commander." Dean replied and walked off the bridge. And gathers some other operation officers to aid him.
Then Fox turned to Claire. "Come we must get to the transporter rooms to prepair everything for this evacuation."
<-- Transporter room -->
When Fox and Claire got to the transporter room already some junior staff had arrived. Immediately Fox contacted the Lone Wolf to ask if they were ready for the first arrivals. They acknowleged and the first officers walked to the platform. When they all stood there Fox walked also to the platform.
"Energise" He said. Claire was behind the console and tabbed a few 'buttons'. A blue glowing light appeared and they we were gone.
--after evacuation--
The Klingon vessel was again under attack from the remaining Cardassian vessel. The Lone Wolf could not engage in battle, so it was up to the Vesuvius to save them once again, however the saucer was in no condition to fire.
"Mr Martens, set a course for that Cardassian vessel, ramming speed!" She tapped her combadge. "Mr Fox, be extra alert, we are going to ram them. Beam us out just before we are going to hit that vessel!"
She sat down as the saucer coursed at ramming speed at the cardassian vessel, looking at the screen stonefaced.
Nick laughed from the Nav consol. It was like plaing chicken with shuttles back in the academy, only this time the intent was much worse. The ship lurched forward as he hit full impulse and aimed towards the Cardassian cruiser.
~~~Cardassian Bridge~~~

"Gul! The Vesuvius is moving!"

"What!?"

"Sir, they're moving towards us. Collision in 20 seconds!!"

The Gul looked at the screen of the once elegant starship moving towards them.

"TAKE IT DOWN!! TAKE IT DOWN!!" He yelled (OFF had to quote Theoden from ROTK )

~~~Vesuvius~~~
The ship shook violently as the Cardassian ship turned and fired.
"Shields holding. We're almost there." Nick reported having taken over part of Nav from Spedmo. Consoles sputtered and exploded.
"Keep going." Sonak commanded. Spedmo nodded.
"Impact in 5, 4, 3, 2....."
With a deafening crunch the Vesuvius rammed itself into the midsection of the Galor. Everything on the bridge lurched forward, consoles and people flew forward as the inertial dampners went offline. However none of the crew hit their inevitable end. Fox had managed to beam them out in time.
~~~In space~~~

The Vesuvius slammed into the Galor Class cruiser. Hull plating crumled and the underlying conduits exploded. The Lone Wolf flew past and tractored the Klingon vessle to safty as the two ships spiraled in a death embrace.

The saucer section lodged itself into the Galor, leading edge poking through to the other side. In a flash of white, red and orange both ships exploded in a fury of debris and anitmatter reaction.

~~~Lone Wolf~~~
Nick stood on the Bridge with his fellow crewmates and their rescuers. They all watched in awe as their former home shattered into thousands of pieces in a grand fireball. Off in the distance the debris of the drive section could be seen, the saucer would now join it's drive section counterpart.
<Martens family quarters>
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nick still looked at the floor. The thought of loosing his wife was too much. "Look at me Nick" commanded Reckus. Somehow Nick lifted his head and stared straight into the Doctors eyes. "I'll be damned if I'm gonna loose her" Reckus continued. "But with no Sickbay and just the basic medical support its pushing it to the limit. I am going to do everything I can for her."
Nick nodded "I know, I know. I'm just so scared of loosing her; she means everything to me."
Reckus looked down at Kate and then back at Nick. I'm going to keep her here until it's time to move. I need to make a quick report and send it to the CMO aboard the Lone Wolf. That way they can have everything that they need to know before she gets there." Nick looked completely shell shocked, and lost in thought. "When we get there though, will you...I mean..." Nick struggled to find the right words. "I want you to look after her..." he said finally. "I'm sure the Lone Wolf's Doctor is more than capable to look after..." "No!" interrupted Nick. "You're her doctor...please Jatan..." Jatan could see a myriad emotions in Nick's eyes. He sighed Id be the same too i guess"Ok Lt. I cant promise but I will talk to the CMO." Nick nodded as more tears ran down his face.
Jatan rummaged in his medi kit and pulled out a hypo spray. He turned to Nick "Listen, I know the Captain will want you back on the bridge shortly, and something in my mind is telling me that you want to be there when the Cardassians get their come-uppance. Really I should pull you from duty, but I think you can hold on til this is over." he said. "Yes Jatan, I need to do this." replied Nick. "You planning to give me something?" Reckus nodded."It's a natural stimulant and anti depressant. It should just help to keep your mood level for a while, but I want you to report to me when we get out of here." Nick agreed and as he felt the cold spray flood his blood stream he felt a wave of relief.....
<ready room>
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Caldwell passed Claire fit to help with the evacuation, although he had given her a boost with a dose of a mood supressant. As the Captain, Commander Fox and Claire left the ready room, he felt a wave of relief which lasted for all of 2 seconds....
=^= Ensign Caldwell please come to the Martens' quarters =^=
Reckus' voice came over load and clear.
=^= Yes Doctor, on my way =^=
now what? he wondered to himself
<before final confrontation>
------------------------------------------------------------------------
After briefing Caldwell and leaving Kate in a stable condition, Reckus walked out into the corridor, heading towards the turbolift. He bumped into Yannis who was happily playing with Trent. She ran up to him when she saw him coming from seeing her mother.
"Doctor Jatan!" she called. Reckus stopped and turned to see the little girl coming after him. "Hello sweetie" he said. "Doctor Jatan, is my mommy going to be ok?" she asked. Reckus got on his knees so that he was level with her face. "Mommys just got a poorly head and a big bump on it" he replied. "But she will be just fine and I'm going to give her some special medicine to make it better" Yannis smiled "Thats good. You're a lovely doctor" she said and gave him a little hug. "Thank you Yannis" he fished into his pocket and 'magically', to Yannis at least, pulled out a lollipop each for her and her friend. "You two be good - Mommy needs to rest ok?" the two children jumped up and down "Thank you Doctor Jatan - we will!" they said in unison.
Reckus carried on towards the lift. When he got in he asked it to take him to the bridge. As the lift gently hummed a vision of a massive explosion suddenly came into his head. He could feel the loss of life and a feeling of justice. But he knew he'd be watching from afar. Damn these visions he thought to himself. They had been coming more and more frequently. He promised himself that when they got back to the Bellicose he'd get in touch with his Mum and ask her about it......
<bridge>
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sonak sat in her chair, her mind working overtime. What they were planning would be spectacular....
She noticed the Doctor entering the bridge and smiled briefly. "How are things Mr Reckus?" she asked. "Not good Captain, I need to talk to you" he replied. "Well my ready room has been vacated so we can talk in there. I take it Mr Caldwell has briefed you with regards to the Counsellor?" said Sonak as they walked to the ready room. "Yes he has, I just hope that once we are out of here I can assess her properly" he responded.
They both sat down at the Captains desk. "Captain, Kate Martens is in a critical condition, I'm worried that she might have a sub dural haematoma or a had a sub arachnoid haemmorhage and I barely have the things to keep her condition stable." Sonak saw the worry in his eyes. "And I had a really wierd thing happen to me in the lift up here" he added. And he explained to Sonak what he had seen. "Sounds like you are developing some kind of psychic abilities Jatan" she finally said. "Premonitions, seeing the future..." Reckus nodded "Thats what I have been thinking too...I really need to speak to my Mum about it" he replied.
Sonak smiled "It's a gift Jatan. That may be why you are an excellent physician too. A natural healer". Reckus blushed a little, and cleared his throat. "I am writing a clinical history for the CMO of the Lone Wolf and a request c/o Mr Martens as he wants me to treat her when we are there" he said. Sonak looked at the desk and then back at Reckus "I am sure neither the CMO nor Commander Majeski will have a problem with that. I will talk to Chris" came the reply.
"She also needs to be beamed out asap from her quarters straight to their sickbay" "Again, leave it with me. I will make sure that Mrs Martens gets out and into the proper care. But I need you to stay here as one of my senior staff. Will Ensign Caldwell be happy to beam across with her?" she asked. "Sure Sonak, he knows that thats likely to be the case" Reckus replied, fiddling with his fingers. Sonak placed her hand on his "Jatan, Kate will be fine. I know it's wierd for you not having a sickbay and that there's not much of this ship left...but everything will work out. Trust me".
--- On the Lone Wolf ---
The senior staff had been beamed straight to the Lone Wolf bridge, and Chris jumped up to relinguish his seat to his former commanding officer. Sonak motioned him to remain seated. "You command her Chris," she said, as she gazed at the great ball of fire that was once a part of her beloved ship, "take us back to Starbase Bellicose, keep the Klingons in tow."
--- later approaching the starbase ---
"Sir, the starbase is under attack from Cardassians!" someone shouted from Tactical.
Instictively, Sonak took command without realizing she did. "Release the Klingons, let them signal their fleet for support, they owe us that much. Engage the Cardassians, cripple only. There have been enough deaths for today. Signal the station that we are here to aid them, then signal the Majesty and the Black Tulip recalling them to the station to aid us!"
She knew that the Black Tulip was the fleet Flagship, but now was a time to take action, not think who was actually in command of the fleet. "See if you can raise the Tiger Shark, Olympus and Raven, we need all assistance we can get!"
Majeski looked at Lt Summers "Mrs Summers take us in full implse"
"Aye sir" Majeski looked at Sonak "Looks liike were about to have even more fun , Raise shields Red alert"
"Mr Frassanito ready wepons"
The Lone Wolf carged into the four Cardassian ships at full tilt and open fired
The fist three shots only shook the ship the fourth sent Majeski flying off his feet and he stood up.
"Mr Frassanito ready a 8 spread of quantum torpedeos and fire on the nearest ship"
Majeski watched as the torpedeos slam into thier target
"Nice one Majeski" Sonak said , Chris's only response was a grin and he looked at the screen .. there were stilll three more . to his surprise the next three hits shook the ship sending people out of thier chairs
"Report "Majeski ordered
"Sheilds down to 54 percent minor damage in the astrophonics bay" Frassanito said
Sonak looked at the view screen and thought for a moment but Majeski had a devieus Idea "Why don';t we eject the core and denoate it close by the ship , we're close to a starbase not to worry about having one "
It might work "Bridge to engineering" Majeski called
"Engineering here"
"Mr Hawkins...Eject the core and prepare to detonate it on my command." Majeski said
"I beg your pardon sir?" Hawkins said
" Do it , just trust me commander" Majeski said
"yes sir" Hawkins said
Sonak looked at Majeski like he was out of his mind."Are you sure about this commander?"
"Trust me Sonak , my father pulled the same stunt 60 years ago against the Romulans , belive me the cardassians are even dumber ... it will work"
Sonak craned her neck backwards and wondered if this was even the same person that servered under her command months ago... or was this a person who was ready to command this ship she decided the answer B was the reason ... was he anything like his father who was once starfleets commander in chief ? she decided to test it and let Majeski run his ship "Chris....lets see if your like your father"
Majeski turned to her."I'm gonna stand above my old man"
He gripped Tojikins hilt and smirked.."Eject it"
Majeski and the bridge crew watched as the core spun towards the ships on the bridge Lt Nick Martens commented " I bet those idiots are trying to figure out what the heck we are doing "
Majeski grinned "They'll figure it out soon enough, by then they will be screaming for thier mommas"
"Mr Summers full impule move us away ...Mr Frassanito DETONATE"
In space the core blew up inbetween two cardassian ships sending them in opposite directions the one closest to the Lone wolf crashed into the third slicing it in half what the Lone wolf did get far enough and was hit by the shock wave
On the bridge all hell broke lose ,the shileds failed and the tatical station exploded sending Frassanito flying over Sonak and Majeski 's head and striagh into Lyida Summers
Lt Summers felt Frassanito's body hit her back and her chin slammed into the helm sending her unconsious
Nick flew to tactical "Shields down wepons offline....and oh great.... intruders on Deck 3 ..5 10 ..12 14 19 and 20
Mejeski looked at sonak and slowly drew Tojikin there was no expression on his face he looked at Lt Martens at Tatical.."Lets flush em off the ship shall we"
"Captain Sonak, you have the bridge , I'm going to clear out my ship " Majeski said
Nick looked At Majeski and nodded , Sonak only looked at them sure it was scuicide but thats one thing they all wouldn't let happen , allowing the Cardassians on one of the most advanced ships in the fleet.
Majeski and Martens met up with a security team on Deck 2 "Time to take out the trash " Majeski said.
Stunned, Sonak sat down in the center chair, absently rubbing the armchair. She knew what Chris and Nick were going to do was close to suicide but it had to be done. She only hoped the Klingons would remember who saved them from the Cardassians and at what cost they had been saved: one civilian and an entire ship.
"Hail those Klingons," she said flatly, "I want to know if they are sending reinforcements. Us and the Black Tulip are no match for the Cardassians. The Starbase is in no condition to defend itself from such a large fleet, they have sustained a lot of damage."
She turned to Dean. "How many Cardassians are we facing and is there any sign of Klingon or Federation reinforcements? And how fast can this ship go without a warpcore? Get me the ship specs a.s.a.p."
Just as Nick was about to leave his station he answered the Captians request for ship count.
"We're facing a fleet close to 12 ships. It consists of 4 Hideki class escourts, 4 Galor Class cruisers, 3 Kelodon class destroyers, and a Hutet class Dreadnought."
With that he turned over Tactical and joined Majeski in the Turbolift.
Sonak stared after her current and her former tactical offcers and shook her head. "I hope they know what they are doing," she said, standing up from her chair. She still felt a bit queezy and now the medication Reckus had given her would be wearing off.
She turned to Fox. "I am going to see how Ms Steenbergen is doing down in sickbay. I also heard Mrs martens is down there and a lot of other crewmembers. I am going to see if I can give the medical staff a little hand. You have the bridge commander."
-- down in sickbay --
"Jatan, is there anyting I can do to help here? Is Claire any better, I think we are going to need her on the bridge soon. Also, I believe I am due for a check-up. The medication you gave me is wearing off."
Majeski and Martens and both ships security teams pushed the the Cadassians down to Deck 12 ,
Martens had a nice cut on his head and he turned to see Majeski who was cutting a cardassian down with toujikin .
"There's too many" Martens shouted
Majeski 's face turned into a wolfish grin "Not for long "
Martens paled he knew what was comming he was gonna use Toujikins full demonic power not just it's puressure. Majeski swung his sword and the destruction was instintanus and a blue light flashed and the entire corrdior was torn apart taking the cardassans with it .
Majeski stood there breathing hard "we gotta clear off this ship , there is even more in engineering"
"Great" Martens clutched his phaser rifle and looked at the fried corrior no a trace of the 30 cardassians that where there "Lets keep moving"
Nick stood about 8 feet behind Chris. Occasionally he'd fire off a potshot at some soldier who missed out on Chris's wrath.
"I really hope the cleanup crew is androids cuz I wouldn't want to clean up this mess," Nick winced as he kicked a severed arm out of his way. Chris grinned at his pale companion.
With that the two made thier way down into the heart of the ship. Every once and a while the ship would shudder as the battle outside raged.
Nick glanced out one window as they walked past. There out in space was a massive Hutet class starship. He stopped and stared out at it. Those things were only legends told by crews from the Dominion War. 70 decks of pure power and more teeth that a Ferengi Razor Grub. Fleets were known to have been destroyed by just one of them. Chris walked over to see what Nick was looking at. He saw defiant class base support ships buzzing around it like flies on a cow. Only this cow had guns, mind you so did the flies. The security teams muttered amongst themselves about the behemoth hovering near the starbase.
Chris shook his head, "They're really trying to kill us now aren't they. Lets keep moving."
Majeski grabbed a cardassian and glared him in the eye the moment they reached deck 13 , he wirled him around and flattened him against the nearest bulk head
"How many of you guys are on this ship?" Majeski spat
"Like I am going to tell you the" cardassian spat
Chris didn't expect Nicks hand to Reach over him and grab the cardassian and drilled his head into the bulkhead
"How about going out an air lock or tell us " Martens said
"You woudn't" He sneered..
"Accidents do happen" Majeski "And btw ... you guys all smell really bad" he threw the cardassian a couple of feet then grabbed toujikin and pointed it at him... "Go tell you little buddies that we're comming "
The cadrassian ran off leaving the security teams watching him go
"Sir was that wise " an ensign said
"Ahh I'll kill him later ...but first..." he hit the panel closest to him and the guest quarters opened and Majeski Reached in and grabbed a sputtering James Dean
"Come on princess , you comming with us" Majeski said
Dean stared at Majeski "YOU ??? YOU AGIAN? WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?"
Majeski just grinned "Welocme to my ship , now if you will excuse me i am the Current commanding officer on this ship be a little more polite ", he patted dean on the head and looked him "Come we have more cardies to toss out of the airlocks"
"Cardies? ..is this what the noise is all about ? " Dean asked
"You didn't hear the red alert"? Martens said
"No I was sleeping" Dean said
Majeski merely looked at Dean "Never mind about your snoring we all know you sleep like the dead but we are gonna be buried in space if we let them take the ship"
Handing Dean a phaser rilfe the headed to Deck 14 ... were sickbay was that conatained Children, Sonak and his and Nicks wife.
*If they touched my wife I'll kill ever single being on this ship * Majeski thought.
Sickbay looked like something from a 19th century military hospital. Extra trolleys had been brought in as all of the biobeds were taken up by serious casualties. Moans and groans resonated around like a dull hum, and it was certainly not a place for the faint hearted.
"Time of death, 20.00 hours" said Reckus, pulling a white sheet over the dead crewman's badly damaged face. Whilst jotting the death particulars on a PADD, he mumbled a small prayer over the body, willing it to find peace. Reckus was saddened that he could not save the young man, but being part of the job, he had to push it to the back of his mind and get on with the next patient. Anyone and everyone on the ship that had medical or first aid knowledge had been roped into helping out in sickbay - there were too many casualties for just 3 people to deal with. Even the EMH had been activated and was busily running round sickbay, assessing people as they came in.
Reckus went across to the biobed next to his office, where Kate Martens lay. Her monitor beeped and flashed, showing her vital signs and saturation levels. He picked up a tricorder and scanned around her head. The swelling and bruising had gone down, but it was still early days. He had successfully performed surgery to alleviate the pressure and to repair the fracture in her skull. Her cheekbone was going to need another couple of treatments but that was the least of his worries. He sighed as he compared readings with this mornings, still no change.
Claire Steenbergen was sitting in the office, looking calmer then she had done on the Vesuvius. He had assessed her with some standard psychological tests and it emerged that she was veering towards slight manic depression. Currently she was ok for duty but he needed to watch her for the next few days - mood swings, that sort of thing. Now she was just resting for the moment, he was aware that she would be needed soon......
His thoughts were disrupted by the doors to sickbay opening "Jatan, is there anything I can do to help here?" Captain Sonak asked. Jatan turned towards her and smiled. "That would be great Captain - we need all the hands we can get down here" Sonak surveyed sickbay and grimaced. "It's a terrible day for the crew of both the Confessor and the Vesuvius" she commented. "Is Claire any better, I think we are going to need her on the bridge soon." she continued. Reckus pointed towards the office. "See for yourself, she's a lot calmer than earlier. I've managed to perform a psychological analysis on her, and I am of the firm belief that she has a form of manic depression." he replied. Sonak nodded thoughtfully "Has her medical record been updated?" "Yes Captain, I always update the crews files when I have seen them" replied Reckus. Sonak turned back to face him after staring blankly into the office. "I'm sorry Jatan, I know you keep your records all sorted - I'm just not really thinking straight at the minute. Also, I believe I am due for a check-up. The medication you gave me is wearing off." Reckus walked over to the desk in the office to access Sonaks medical records. hmmm your 12 week check is due next week, I can certainly give you some more medication if you feel it necessary?" "Please Jatan, I feel I need it more than ever" she answered, her eyes falling to the ground. He squeezed her arm gently "I know we have a counsellor on the ship, but if you feel you ever need to talk, my door is always open Sonak".....
--*-- USS Confessor --*-- (prev USS Lone Wolf)
Martin was not happy , he was familiar with the USS Vesuvius and
now he must learn again about the basics of ship .
Not that this ship is a lot different from the Vesuvius , but still some
sections are different . They are in a battle and he must learn fast .
" What is the status Commander ? " Martin looked up and he
saw Captain Sonak watching him .
" Well , Captain . I'm sure we are in good condition . Everything
is working . I'm just doing some last adjustments ."
" OK . Carry on Commander ." Sonak said and walked away .
Martin looked at her for a moment .
~ She seems very strong although her big loss . ~ thought Martin .
Then he returned to do his work .
Rachel was moving as fast as she could to keep up to Dr Jatan Reckus she volunteered to be a nurse for the man before, she emptied a hypospray into Mrs Kate Martens neck.
"There that should help with the headace" Rachel smile and patted her hand then moved onto the next patient by the sick bay doors when the ship Rocked violently from a hit then suddenly the lights dimmed and the she heard pounding at the shickbay doors.
they heard a popping sound at the jeffries tube hatch by the surgical bio bed and then her husband Chris Majeski , Nick Martens and a sleepy James Dean emerged, Majeski Picked up a empty duffle back and began filling it with medical supplies and Reckus looked at him wondering what the hell was going on
" Dude...What are you doing " Reckus hissed
Majeski glared at him and said" We need to clear off this deck, because if we don't 47 cardassians are going to pile up in here and use this place as a shooting gallery"
"Fair enough" Reckus said then he turned to Rachel "Start clearing these people out then he tunred to the Confessors CMO Dr Rubin , we have to get these people out of here"
They took about 5 min to get every one in the Tubes the last ones were Rachel was trying ot get Kate Martens off a bio bed when the doors broke down and pieces of metal when't flying catching her in the forhead leaving a large gash on her forhead, "ARRGGHHH " She hit the floor and the next thing she knew that she heard a loud roar and Sonak helping her to the Jeffries tube while nick carried his wife while and she heard Reckus shout
"Majeski come one you can't face that thing it's too big"
Chris who jumped over Rachel and landed in fromt of her when the doors broke was taken aback when a large grey creature stood in the doorway
It let out a roar and stepped forward and Majeski rose toujikin infront of him the creater swung it's massive arm down and Chris jumped back out of it's way and the mass arm came crashing down and put a hole in the deck
He craned his neck and he saw Cardassians cheering on thier over szed pet
He jumped at it and swung Toujikn at it's mouth "Take a breath mint ugly he shouted " and swung
The creature met the challange catching the sword in it's mouth
Sparks flew and Majeski tried tugging it free and to his horror he hear cracking sounds comming from the sword and cracks started to appear on it there was a loung bang like and explosion as the sword broke
"AuuuHHHgg" Majeski let out a cry as the he fell flat on his back and the creature still had the end in it's mouth
"NOO " Rachel screamed out and Sonak was trying ot drag her into the tube out of harms way but it was kinda hard ot hold her sitting in a crouched position
rolling her eyes she wispered to Rache"come he is trying ot save us"
The Creature took a swat at Chris and there was a spray of blood as he when flying across the room and he hit the wall beside the entrence to the jeffrise tube
Rachel let out a cream and Sonak took advantage of the situation and pulled her in
Sonak closed the dooor did she imagine it .. but when she seen Chris's body laying limp his eyes where glowing red and there where purple marks on either side of his face.
Sonak had a hard time keeping the Elven woman under control as she struggled to get back to the hatch, and her husband. Finally she pulled a hypospray containing a mild sedative out of her pocket and pressed it against Rachel's throat. "You must come with us Rachel, there waits suddend death if you go. You have a throne to think of, your people need you, Chris can stand his own, believe me. Remember how he saved us from that river monster? On his own he slew the creature, saving us."
She knew she was babbling but she hoped it kept Rachel from going back. Carefully she dabbed a tissue against Rachel's forehead, attempting to stanch the bleeding. "Come, we must go to the bridge, from there we may try to get rid of the Cardassians. I believe the Klingons have sent word that they will come to aid us."
Sonak turned to Reckus and Martens. "I think Kate will be safest in the readyroom, it is large enough to funtion as an office. Otherwise Briefingroom One is fairly large to function as sickbay."
Chris stood up all in his mind he felt nothing but the joy of killing the large hulking creature that stood before him spat out the end of his sword and his feet
He looked at it and smiled letting his fangs stick out he was in his drow form .. he doesn't know who he is or what he is doing nothing but killing he cracked his knuckles by curling his fingers a bit and smiled at the creatrue and then jumped at it
"WORTHLESS TRASH" Majeski shouted and he took one swipe and the creature was sliced in to a doezen peices he stood there for a second and let the pieces fall around him then he looked up and grinned
the cardassians started to back away from what seems to be a crazed mad humanoid creatrue ..
"ARRAAHHHH" Majeski let out a death cry and started slashing at whatever was in his path with his drow claws by the time he reached the end of deck 14 the entire deck was littlered with bodies that was in his path his drow blood was unsealed and now he was out of control this is his thrid tranformation soon he will lose himself to his drow self
He looked back at the damage he had doen on deck 14 and laughed "heheheheh"
Steppeing into the trubo lift he made his way to Deck 19 where most of the cardassians where in engineering.
Dean followed the rest of the crew in the Jeffries tube after a few min the all stopped the passages was blocked between deck 8 and 7. Dean took his tricorder out and scanned. Seems all Jeffries tub in this deck have breached and our only way to the bridge is the lift.
“So what our option commander?” Sonak asked.
“I may have an idea but will need to get to the control consol on this deck the problem is that we have Cardassian intruders on this deck. Ill try to get to the room alone and if my plan work ill give you a call.”
“I don’t want to risk your live I want you to take someone with you.” Sonak replied
“Its better if I go along. Go at the nearest exit and wait for my signal.” Sonak knew she could count on his ops officer he never had let her down.
Dean started crawling with his rifle in the hand away from the group. After meters long of crawling, he finally ended to the hatch he wanted. He took his scanner out and detected 2 Cardassian inside. After having make himself a good idea of their location he opend the hath with one hand and with the other he fired on the Cardassian, and before they could have done anything both of them were down.
Dean slipped down to the room and activated the console. He only hoped the stupid action of Majestic with the warp core hadn’t damaged the holoemitters to much. After having passed a few scan Dean saw that his crazy plan could work with a lot of luck. He started programming as quickly he could, using the computer holographic database. The Cardassian would have a nice surprise. After a few minutes he had finished what he intended to do. And just before initializing he said to himself. “Here goes nothing.”
As the program activated Dean heard weapon fires outside. His Cardassian hologram would sure confuse a hell the intruders and maybe kill enough of them before the holographic grid of this deck would fall down. And after a few minutes he heard loud explosions. The grid had just given his last sign of life. Dean tapped on his commbadge. “Its now or never captain."
<Before Majeski kills creature>
Reckus had a split second to decide which patients went out first. "Get all the walking wounded out of here now!" he ordered. Ensign Caldwell stood by the entry to the Jeffries tube, making sure that before their patients left Sickbay they were fit to crawl through the tubes. As patients started to pile out Reckus stood by Kate's biobed, checking her vital signs. Sonak came from the tube to speak to him "Thats nearly all of them Jatan. What about Kate?" she asked. He looked at her "Yet again I'm going to have to prepare her to move her. I really don't like this Captain" he replied. Majeski bounded up to them. "Im sorry buddy but this is just the way it is. To loose one sickbay is bad luck but to loose another is just careless" he tried to joke. Reckus looked at him "save the jokes for later, please Chris? Right now, I really need to figure how to get Mrs Martens to safety" as he spoke he craned his neck around Sonak to see Lt Martens watching intently. "And I dont particularly want another fine starfleet officer to loose a beloved - there's been far too much of that today already." he continued. Majeski nodded thoughtfully "Well I'll continue to cover your back but you need to think of something fast" said Chris. Whatever it is he could smell it coming - and fast. Reckus looked at the vials on the trolley and picked one up. He snapped it into a hypospray and administered it into Kate's neck. "That will keep her stable for a while and still in deep sedation" he said. Rachel Majeski came to help Jatan move Kate across onto a special rescue stretcher. "Nick! Come and give me a hand!" shouted Reckus to Martens who had been keeping an eye on the proceedings. Nick gave his weapon to Dean and rushed across to the biobed "I thought you'd never ask!" he said. The pair of them picked up the handles at each end of the stretcher and started to hurry across to the jeffries tube. Sonak stuffed a pack with as many medical supplies as possible, along with Rachel. When it was full she swung it on her back and raced towards Reckus. Suddenly Reckus stopped dead, eyes shut. It was happening again....a dark force was about to come into sickbay and create havoc and destruction. Something large and dark, with teeth like swords. Sonak felt her CMO stiffen "Are you having another vision?" asked Sonak. Reckus nodded "Yes!" he shouted back to her. By now the sound in sickbay was unbearable. "What did you see?" she asked, not really wanting to know what he had seen. Suddenly a massive roar filled the air as some terrible being crashed into the room, launching itself at Majeski. "That!!!" replied Reckus......
--------before the monster attacks----------
Claire Steenbergen was helping the wounded into the jeffries tubes. As she is a CNS officer, she had a medical training at the Academy.
Claire scanned a young Bajoran woman lying on a biobed, at first sight she looked quite normal, except for some bruises and that she was very weak. It was that weakness that Claire didn't trust. And indeed, the scan proved that she had lost a great amount of blood, though the wound looked minimal, clearly it was worse than first thought. Steenbergen turned towards Reckus:
"This woman needs a bloodtransfusion."
"That's impossible now, how long can she last without it?"
"30 minutes tops. Doctor she will die, we can't leave her like that!"
Reckus thought a bit, but than sadly said:
"I'm sorry but I need to occupy with patiënts that can be saved."
And he left Claire stupefied behind. But then something sprang up into her mind:
" Doctor wait, " Claire's call made Reckus turn round," I got an idea. What if I give this woman blood? I'll stay with her while we go into the jeffries tube."
"Are you sure that your blood is compatible?"
"No, I'm not, but there's a chance. I'm half Bajoran and my blood type is O negative, there's a large chance she'll make it. I know my blood isn't tested, but I think it's worth a try, better than doing nothing and let her die."
Jatan Reckus seemed convinced: "Alright, do it."
Claire immediately turned towards the woman:
"Hello, I'm Claire, I'm going to help you, you'll be allright. What's your name."
The woman weekly looked up: "Prin Lena...," she whispered.
"May I call you Lena?" Claire asked the woman she held in her arms. Lena nodded. She wasn't a Starfleet officer as she looked at her uniform. Lena laid her head against Claire's shoulder. A familiar feeling ran through her body as she looked at the woman. But Claire shook it of and called the EMH to assist her in doing the transfusion.
Spedmo was pained by the death of the Vessuvius but he cleared his mind as the helmsman flew from the console. "Spedmo take the helm," Captain Sonak yelled. Before he knew what he was doing he was moving for the console. Once he got there his android hands were a blurr. The lieutenant twitched his head and a servo sounded. Nick Martense looked curriousiouly at him but the android was moving he barley regitered that he shut his emotion chip off.
Sonak tapped her combadge as she heard Dean his voice, after opening the hatch. THe Cardassians were lying spawled on the deck and by the look of it they were either dead or unconscious.
"I do not know what you have done to manage this, but the way is clear," Sonak called, "find yourself a way to the bridge and meet us there."
She turned to Reckus. "Better get the patients to Briefingroom One, so that we can get Mrs Martens stable again. After that I will have to go back to the brigde to see how we are faring at defending the station."
--- bridge ---
After helping Reckus settle down the patiens as best as was possible, Sonak returned to the bridge. A lot of consoles were smoking and the air smelled acid. "Status," she called, coughing as the foul air touched her lungs, "computer, clear air on the bridge."
=^= acknowledged =^= the computer responded, and immediately the bridge looked a lot clearer.
Sonak stared out the main screen and saw that the majesty had come to their aid. "This is good, now what is keeping the Klingons, have they responded yet?"
"Yes ma'am," a crewman offered, "they are sending a small fleet to assist us in fighting off the Cardassians."
"That is good, let me know when they are within hailing range."
"Klingon fleet in range ma'am." Nick said reading his station.
"General K'loth of the IKS Q'ud is hailing."
The image of a nobel Klingon appeared on screen.
"Captain, I offer my fleets assistance. It's the least we can do for your helping the Empire with this latest ordeal."
"Glad you could join the battle General. May your glory and honor be entrenched in legend."
"Thank you Captain, K'loth out, Q'pla!"
A couple different stations around the bridge beeped as the klingon fleet decloaked. Immediatly the escourts took to dispatching the smaller Hideki class ships. The larger vessels, a Negvar and 2 Vor'cha, began concentrating their fire on the giant Hutet battleship.
Off in the distance the Lone Wolf flew. Whenever it would get the chance it would fire a volley at it's prey. Nick knew that no one would be able to stop the beast(Chris) they just beamed over to the Lone Wolf.
From behind him came a sigh. It was Reckus. Nick looked over at him with an inquisitive look. Reckus looked very preturbed. "Thats the second sickbay I've lost this week. I should ask command to make the Captians readyroom surgery ready."
Suddenly the deck shook. "We just felt the detonation of a Galors warp core. Those Klingons are effective!" Nick said with awe.
Sonak looked down at her status panel. "Target your fire on the Hutet. The smaller ships aren't as much of a problem. Take it down Mr. Martens."
"With pleasure."
Sonak sat back with a satisfied smile on her face. The Cardassians were finally being dealt with and shown their place. She still wondered why the Cardassians had attacked at all and turned to her security officer.
"See if you can find a live Cardassian for us to question, I would like to know why they attacked."
She turned her gaze to the main screen again, watching the Klingons wreak havoc amongst the Cardassian fleet. There were many things you could say about a Klingon, and one of them was that they were rather efficient warriors. She admired their strenght of will and their honor and wished the Cardassians could be more like them, honor-wise.
She caught Reckus remark about sickbays and turned to him, smiling sadly. "The next ship will have a grand sickbay, which will be secured on its own. You say the word and none can enter. How is Mrs Martens, did you get her stabilized? She was in engineering before the explosion, I read in the reports of other crewmembers, as soon as she wakes I have a few questions for her. She may have been the last person to have seen my husband."
She gazed around the bridge, making eye contact with each of her department heads. "Know this, you have all done extremely well ever since we got pulled into this battle. However, if I find one of you was responsible for the destruction of our drive section, I will make sure his or her life will be miserable from now on. I have no doubt that all of you acted honorably in the last few days and I sincerely hope that none of you were involved."
Her voice was hard and flat, devoid of any emotion when she said it, her face also an emotionless mask. She saw the shocked faces around her, and knew instantly her crew was not involved. For that she was glad, since she sensed their sincerity as she watched their shocked expressions at her harsh words. "Status of the Cardassian vessels, the Klingons and Starbase Bellicose?"
"I shall certainly look forward to having a secure Sickbay" replied Reckus. "It will be nice to have a new home, that I can lock in a split second" he added, a brief smile flickering across his face. "It can also be customized to a certain extent, so it will be fairly unique" Sonak added.
"So how is Mrs Martens now?" "She is doing ok, but because I cant hook her up to proper monitors I'm having to have her watched closely. Neuro obs would indicate that she has suffered no adverse effects so far." he replied. "But she will be sedated for a while yet Captain, and I want her to have her in for at least 5 days after she awakes. After major brain injury and surgery there is always chance of a relapse" his face now had the serious look that very rarely made an appearance. Sonak stood up and walked towards him "I'm glad to hear that her progress is satisfactory. Would you please keep me updated Jatan?" Reckus nodded "Yes Captain, certainly. If you have time to see me soon then you may come for your checkup"
"The fleets are still here ma'am. Klingons have lost one bird of prey and have a second drifting powerless. The Cardassians are taking more damage. All Hideki's are gone, 2 Galor and a keldon are destroyed as well. The Hutet is taking significant damage but it sure can take a beating."
Sonak looked back at Nick.
"That leaves 5. Whats the status of our fleet?"
"The Wind Star and Trilogy are in a defencive position around Bellicose. The Jamestown and Hyena are doing strafing runs on the Hutet and the Lone Wolf is chasing a Galor in circles. Umm I'd like permission to check up on my wife ma'am."
Sonak nodded and Nick moved to the briefingroom. There laying on the floor was his wife. He walked over an knelt next to her and grasped her hand.
"Hang on babe, I'm here. Don't worry, I'm not going to leave you." He whispered in her ear. "I need to go back to work now."
He leaned down and kissed her on the forehead. As he did so the world burst forth in an array of colors. Before his eyes flashed images. Images of Seliv to the antimatter storage pods and finally to a reflection of Kate in the mirror sporting a black jumpsuit with a bruised face. The expression on her face was one of satisfaction.
Just as fast as the images started they ended. Stunned Nick looked down at his wife in shock. Was she the one who caused all this grief? Shakeing his head he silently walked back out onto the bridge.
Claire woke up, a wait against her chest made breathing more difficult. She looked down, it was Lena. The young woman slept.
Suddenly a device round her wrist was bleeping. Claire noticed that the transfusion was complete. She felt somewhat weaker and a deep yawn confirmed her fatigue. The sound had woken Lena. As her eyes met Claire's she smiled shyly. Indeed she looked better now. Colour had reappeared on her cheeks and the wound on her thy had been treated with a dermo regenerator.
"Thanks for staying with me, " she whispered.
"It's alright, it was my pleasure..." Claire said while she discovered how beautiful Lena's auburn eyes were.
A flush appeared an the woman's face.
Oh, dear, Claire thought, did I just say that?
Sonak turned back as Reckus made his remark about the checkup. "I appear to have some time now Jatan," she replied and walked back into the readyroom. "But I do have to return to the bridge after the checkup.
----- after the checkup -----
Sonak walked back onto the bridge and resumed her seat, watching as the Klingons destroyed another Cardassian Vessel. She looked sideways at Fox and he looked as glum as she felt. Despited the odds of them coming out of this alive, the situation on the Confessor still looked glum. "I do hope that the Cardassians will surrender soon if they want to come out of this alive. Their chances have decreased immensely." She turned around towards Martens. "keep an eye on them, fire at will. Preferably cripple only, there have been enough deaths."
Dean took his rifle and and walked to the door most of the cardassians on this deck should be dead or uncoucious by now. As he exited The commander saw lots of cardassians body liying araound, he didnt bother to see if any was stil alive, his only concern was to get as quickly as possible to the bridge.
Half conscious Glinn Karev was lying on the ground between all the cardassian.
Suddenly he heard footsteps coming his way. He saw a starfleet officer coming
around the corner of the corridor and layed very still hoping he would pass.
The officer quickly passed him and when he was arround another corner Karev
stood up and followed him and tried to subdue him from behind.
Just as Dean neared the turbolift he heard something form behind. When he was about to turn around the cardassian hit him with all his strengh. Dean felt himself falling and his gun was out of reach. He immediatly went back on his feet and looked the person who had hit him. It was a cardassian officer and he didnt looked happy that Dean managed to get back on his feet.
The two of them stood there, looking at eachother for a moment. Karev saw Dean had lost his gun and quickly tried to get it, but Dean was a fraction faster and prevented Karev from getting it. Knocked him down on the floor and picked up his gun again, immediately
pointing it toward Karev and taking a few passes backward.
"You seem to be an officer and this is why i won't kill you. We need answers." Dean said
Snowfall just rounded a corner and saw Commander Dean and an unknown Cardassian facing eachother. She bounced on all fours towards them, coming to a skidding halt behind the two, just as Dean spoke. "You need any assistance commander?" she asked, flipping her tail, her fur standing out widely. She looked like she had been singed on all sides as her white fur was blackened on some places. "I could claw him for you?" She extended her claws, displaying them with pride.
"No need" Dean answered. It didnt look like the cardassian would talk. "Okay we will see this later now move toward the turbolift." He said to the cardassian pointing his rifle towards him. The cardassian walked forward without saying a word and he kept his silence until they had reached the bridge."Captain i am bringing you a prisoner." dean annouced as they walked on the bridge.
Sonak and Fox both looked toward the turbolift when they heard Dean. In front of him walked a cardassian. Both started to question him, but Karev kept his silence. It took them about an hour to get something out of him, but finally Karev said he would surrender and told them everything.
Spedmo was moving with lightning quick reflexes. "Captain I have a report form the Tulip. It is on its way at maximum warp," Spedmo reported. Captain Sonak nodded as she busied herself. Everyone was soo busy no one saw the beam of a transporter light appearing on the bridge save for one. The android lieutenant moved as if he were not human to tackle the Cardassians now on the bridge.
Nick was still in shock on what has happend .. but also with the images he had and idea to save his friend Chris at Rachel's request and keep on the ship , without him harming anyone. he had cargo bay one cleared out and the enitire cargo bay was surrounded by a level 10 force field. Including the floor above and below .
He beamed him aboard and had Sonak and Rachel go down there to figure out what to do with him.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Majeski didn't know what was happending he was about to finnish off the last cardassian in engineering when he found him self on the lone wolf the entire ship was almost empty.
He chased several cremebers attemting to rip them apart when he then again found himslef on the Confessor this time in a large room what looked like a cargo bay he ran to the door and he hit the force field at full tilt snarling and growling he was thrown back . then he tried ripping though the floor again he hit a forcefield and was thrown back.
Then he when beserk he tried ripping the bulkhead abprt and he hit another force field. He was about to rip the celing apart when the doors opend reveling Rachels face was streaked with tears and Captain Sonak and another face his father but he didn't reconize them, he saw them as mortals nothing more,
"Chris it's me you wife please talk to me" Rachel pleaded
"Let me out" Chris growled his voice was hoarse , sounded like some beast in a sense in his Drow for thats all he is
"Can't do that Majeski you a good man we want to help" Sonak said
"LET.......ME.......OUT " Chris snarled and launched himself at them his right claw first and Rachel screamed and ducked but Franklin Majeski and Sonak stood perfecty still and Majeski hit the forcfield again
Sonak studied his face his eyes where glowing red and green pupils and the purple streaks on the side of his face stood out but what caught her attention was the purple moon on his forhead.
"Majeski we can't let you go" Sonak said stiffly , it hurt her to do this to her friend but he was out of control his hands where burnt because of the forcefield but she knew what Chris's father told her he doesn't know who he is or what he was or feel fear or pain .. he was like a machine .
"Son" Franklin said " this is for your own good"
Snarling Majeski launched him self one last time Sonak hit a panel and this time Majeski stuck to the forcefield for five seconds and then dropped to the floor face first
"Sonak to Reckus, We have a pantient for you in cargo bay one his hands are burnt and we want him in sickbay ...and please keep him sedated if he wakes up there is no telling what he will do"
Sonak turned to Rachel," You said you know how to return him to normal"
Rachel let out a sob and nodded " We need to reforge his sword , with one of my hairs in it....it's the only way"
Sonak looked at Franklin Majeski ex commander in chief of starfleet "How long will this take "
Franklin looked at Sonak " An hour mabye if done by my hand 45 min"
" Do it , please I have a small mission for your son " She turned to Rachel " You do realize what I plan for you husband , he may not return"
Rachel nodded and looked at her husbands limp form then she pulled out a hair and handed it to her father inlaw .
Reckus came down and then he looked at the lump in the forcefeild "Good lord his hands"
He entered and pressed a hypo in Chris's neck to keep him unconicous and begun treating his hands.
Nick stood at his console in a daze. The auto fire sequencing was working beautiful. The computer was running the targeting lists, and weapons as he stood there thinking about what he had just encountered.
What he had just transpired was a myth. It is regarded that Tandarans were at one point highly developed telepaths now it's only a myth. Now the people are only mildly telepathic but even that is a rarity. Those who have the gift are hidden for fear they will be hunted down and killed. And what he had just encountered worried him.
The ship rocked violently breaking him out of his stupor.
There on screen was the pieces of the Hutet battleship. Slowly it drifted in space various sections leaked plasma. A cheer rose from the bridge crew, over the comm came congrats from the various weapons officers of the fleet.
Sonak was thrown out of her chair when the ship rocked violently and landed hard on the deck. She rubbed her legs as she got to her feet, a painful expression on her face. The armrests that were supposed to prevent this from happening had failed to do their job properly, but the engineering crew had worse things to take care of right now.
There were still three Cardassian vessels attacking the station and on the main screen she saw the Black Tulip take one for her accound. ~well done, Elron~ she thought and smiled as she saw the Cardassian vessel be crippled. "Sonak to transporter room, beam the survivors of the Cardassian vessel we just crippled to Cargo Bay Four and place forcefields around it. Provide them with ration food and water, and small comforts to live. They are prisoners of war and are to be treated accordingly. Treat them with the respect they are due."
"Aye ma'am."
Sonak turned her gaze back to the main screen. "Contact the Black Tulip, see if the commander of our flagship has any specific orders for us."
Dispite the ship being thrashed the ex commander in Chief Franklin Majeski looked at his son a little more closely , how close was he to losing himself to his drow form his son was nothing but snarling and growling beast , he drove the repaired Tojikin into the floor in front of the of the entrance to the cargobay and backed away Reckus and Rachel looked at each other and backed up as well if chris didn't grab that sword with Rachels hair in it it could get chaotic.
Rachel stiffed as she felt the sword pulse the she felt her husband pulsing with it, she watched as Franklin
lowered the forcefield, and Majeski's drow half fough his elf half for control , the drow half wanted to rip the three people apart and his elf half reached for the sword.
"Come on chris you can do it mate" Reckus wispered as they watched him stagger to the sword , the ship rocked again and Majeski was knocked off his feet but he got back up and started foward slowy again still fighing internally
"I love you " Rachel wispered
Majeski slowly raised a shaking hand to grab the sword him and the sword pulsed again this time every one saw it
His hand gripped the sword and he fell over tojikin still in hand .
"Alright "Reckus cheered and he started forward to check on Chris when Rahcel grabbed him in mid stride
"Look" Rachel said
"Christ almighty " Franklin said "His drow self is trying to use tojikin , if he swings that ......"
Rachel nodded the entire corridor and every one in it mabye half the ship would be demolished no need help from the cardassians
Then Majeski fell foward they all froze ,
"Jeezus, can't any get pain killers here? " Majeski grunted
"He's back " Rachel and Reckus rushed forward and helped pick up the once beast.. the marks on his face where gone
"I think Captain Sonak has a mssion for you my son " Franklin said
"get me to the bridge" Majeski said sheathing tojikin in his belt with tensaiga and Rachel and reckus eached grabbed and arm and hauled him up to the bridge
The ship was still under attack when they got there
Sonak crawled forward to Majeski who nodded to Rachel and Reckus that he could stand on his own
"Majeski" Sonak said "Your going ot cardassia after this mess is over"
Majeski squinted "Huh?"
"I wanna know what the Cardassians up to and your going to find out for us" Sonak said
Rachel looked at Sonak "I wanna stay aboard with you "
Sonak nodded towards Majeski. "I would advise you to keep a low profile and possibly disguise yourself as a Cardassian to keep suspiscion from yourself." She watched as Majeski left and wondered how exactly her former CTSO had been cured. One look from both Rachel and Franklin Majeski told her enough, the sword had been reforged.
She turned towards Rachel. "You would be welcome to stay Mrs Majeski. Your medical skills are widely known and well received among my crew. I have been told Mrs Martin is improving greatly under your care. I personally welcome your assistance and would indeed welcome your stay. Once we have a new ship you would receive your own quarters, they would probably VIP quarters since you are a Federation Royal."
Sonak watched the screen once more and saw that the last few Cardassian vessels were increasing their speed and jump to warp, running from the battle scene.
"Cowards," she murmured, but smiled softly nonetheless.
"Open a channel to the Klingons."
"Channel open Captain."
"Captain Krell, I would like to thank you for your assistane. The Cardassian fleet has been destroyed and the surviving vessels are fleeing home."
"This was a good day to die," the klingon captain replied, "we will follow them and make sure they leave Federation space, or face the concequences. Qa'pla Captain Sonak." He signed off and his fleet jumped to warp.
Sonak sighed, she was not used to dealing with Klingons. "Well seems we got out of this one fairly well. What is the status of our fleet?"
"We're getting an update from the fleet ma'am. The Trinity is adrift, lifesupport and main power systems still online, her manouvering systems were knocked out. The Windstar is leaking plasma our her port nacel and has a massive scar down her port side from a collision with the Hutet debris. Jamestown reports minimal damage and is working to tow the Hyena back to base. The Hyena was evaced and is now operating with a skeleton crew. I'm currently waiting for a comm from the BT and the Lone Wolf."
Nick looked over the reports. "The majesty is still reported inside some sort of subspace bubble."
"Very good lieutenant. Take a break, we all need it. Go check up on your wife." Sonak looked back at him with a compassionate look, well as compassionate as a Vulcan can get.
Nick nodded and made his way to the observation lounge. There his wife still lay curled up in the fetal position. Her chest rose and fell with her rythmic breathing. He sat down and gently caressed her face with the back of his hand. All of her surface wounds seemed to have been healed. He sat there and wondered why she was still in a coma.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Kate slowly sat up. The side of her face still sore from the incident. She looked around the room, no one seemed to be there. Slowly she made her way out and onto the bridge. There she saw mangled bodies standing about bridge. The bodies were those of the command staff and various other officers. One of the bodies turned to face her. His face was charred and cracked. A section of his skull could be seen where the skin had burned away. Two intense brown eyes stared at her through the charred flesh. "Why did you do it?" he asked. The voice from the body was that of Nick.

Another voice joined in. "You killed us all." It was Sonak. She stood in front of her chair. Smoke rose from fresh phaser burn marks on her chest.
"You will pay for what you've done." yet another voice said behind her. She whirled around and there stood Seliv. His green eyes glowed intesly at her. Green blood dripped down his charred face from the top of his head.
"You will pay!"

All the " dead" crewmembers slowly began to circle her. Out from the circle walked a little girl. Her hair burned away and her skin a deathly pale. "Why mommy? Why?"

All at once the " dead" began reaching for her mumbleing away at her. The voices grew louder and louder. She let out a scream and fell to the deck.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nick sat next to his wife in the lounge. Suddenly she bolted upright and screamed. Just as soon as her scream ended her eyes rolled back and she flopped back to the floor unconcious.
"Doctor!" screamed Nick at the top of his lungs. Ensign Caldwell ran across to Nick and his wife. He noticed Kate starting to spasm as her arms flailed around wildly. He noticed the panic in Nick's eyes "Whats happening to my wife Ensign?" he asked. Caldwell grabbed a tricorder from the bag next to him, tapping his comm badge at the same time in one fluid movement
=^= Dr Reckus, please come to the captain's ready room. This is urgent =^=
After treating Majeski, Reckus was making his way with Sonak back towards the bridge. "Now what do you think is wrong?" she asked, raising a quizical eyebrow.
"I have no idea" replied Reckus. "Ive seen more casualties in this last couple of weeks then I ever had whilst working as a houseman after graduation" he said. Sonak could see he was weary and drained. But all her crew were, they desperatley needed a rest. She smiled sadly "You will deserve your R&R Jatan". The two of them walked into the turbo lift. "Bridge please" said Sonak. "It will be time for your 12 week scan Captain. When do you wish to come and see me?" he asked.
"Tell me Ensign! What's happening?!" Nick repeated again. Caldwell shook his head "I don't know Sir. Her readings are off the scale" he replied. The door of the ready room opened and Reckus ran in. "Report Ensign" he said. "Lt Martens came into visit his wife. Her condition was stable until about 10 mins ago. She emitted a loud scream and then collapsed, although she wasn't conscious at the time." Reckus grabbed the tricorder and started to scan Kates head, who was still wildly thrashing around. "Then these convulsions started and although I have tried to calm her, there has been no response to it." he continued, looking worriedly at Jatan. The tricorder was beeping like mad. "She's gone into neurogenic shock" replied Reckus, stoneyfaced. Nick was looking extremely bewildered "What does that mean?" he asked, voice shaking again. "I think it would be an idea for you to leave Mr Martens" replied Reckus, busily looking through the vials of injections. "No, I want to know what's happening to my wife" Nick replied.
Reckus suddenly got another of his flashes in his head.... he could see Kate holding something, like a metal box, then he saw Seliv standing in engineering... and then he saw and felt the explosion again. He shook his head from side to side, trying to get his mind focused. He didnt understand what was heppening to him.
He focused again and placed a yellow vial into the holding unit of the hypo spray, looking up at Nick as he did so "Please don't make me pull rank on you Nick. I will keep you updated on her condition but this is not the time. Please wait outside, I promise I will find you when I have her stabilised again" Reckus said firmly.
Sonak stared at Reckus, was the man so tired he had not heard her response the first time he had asked the question?
"I have time now Jatan, if you have the time. After that I want you to get some rest, you have been in tow the past few days without much rest and I do not wish you to topple over from fatigue. I will hear no objections Jatan, that is an order."
Her expression softened, "now where do you wish me to wait for you? The readyroom?"
<backpost>
When the Guls of the three remaining vessels saw the Black Tulip coming into action, they agreed they were greatly out numbered and decided to flee while they still could.
On all three ships the command was given to turn around and go into warp as quick as possible. While they were turning the Black Tulip fired their phasers at one of the vessels and left it crippled.
Before they could fire at one of the remaining vessels, both had engaged there warp engines and fled from the battle zone.
the Brige crew on the confessor we're cheering he noticed that no one was cheering near the the navigation are as the secondary helmsmen Lydia Summers lay dead on the bridge every on gathered around and Rachel laid a hand on Chris's arm
"Chris?.." she asked
Chris looked at Sonak for permission, she nodded she knew what he was asking
with two swords at his belt he grabbed Tensaiga's hilt and drew it
"Crikey he's still insane" An unfortunate crewmeber who wintnessed Majeski's out of control masscare in engineering on the cardassians.
"Hardly" Majeski said flatly and he swung Tensaiga down on the fallen officer
Every one on the bridge gasped at what was done but then silenced as Lt Summers moaned then begun to move she blinked around and looked at every one
then asked "whats going on?"
Majeski sheathed Tensaiga and said nothing he merely turned and walked away leaving those who knew him stunned he actually saved a human
Majeski headed to the turbo lift to leave the bridge and he stopped behind Sonak "Majeski report to sick bay for sugical alteration and perpare to head to cardassia "
Neither of them turned around to look at eachother
"Yes ma'am" and he left
Sonak looked on and watched as people stared in awe at Lydia Summers Leaving Sonak with an odd thought *what would make him save a human, he hates them practicaly except for a few?* the thought burned in her mind on why Sonak looked at Rachel who looked just as bafled as her.
Spedmo looked at the situation with a grim look. He saw several Federation and Klingon ships on fire. His console started blinking and beeping. A broad smile spread on his face. "Captain the Black Tulip has just arrived," he stated just as the Helm station was engulfed in flames and the bridge rocked violently.
Later:Spedmo awoke in sickbay and he was completley unaware how he got there.
Reckus stared blankly at Sonak. It was true he felt like death warmed up, but had he really not heard her earlier response? "I'm sorry Sonak, my mind is just not focusing properly" he answered softly. He leant his head against the wall, closed his eyes and breathed deeply. "And these visions are starting to disturb me slightly. I just dont understand the reason behind them or why they have suddenly started" he added. "Your mother was psychic, maybe there's a link there" she replied. "You need to find out from her about that possibility Jatan"
Reckus nodded. "Let me see what is happening upstairs. Then we will conduct your scan" he said as the turbo lift was taking them up to the bridge.
"Captain, incoming message from Bellicose station," the duty officer at OPS called. With Dean off duty, Sonak was glad she had another capable officer to fill in for him.
"On screen."
"It is audio only, and marked for your eyes only ma'am," the officer replied, almost rueful.
"Verywell, relay it to briefing room one." Sometimes her readyroom being a sickbay office was quite an annoyance."
She walked over to the briefingroom and accessed the message. She was relieved at getting a sign of life from the station. After several hails had failed, they had lost hope of finding someone alive in the bubble. Her expression grew surprised as she heard the message from Admiral Clark. She was to report to the USS Kulaks for an Intelligence mission to a fleetyard. She erased the message and called on Commander Fox.
As Fox arrived, she needed his discretion as this was not to go beyond the rooms walls. "I am called away on an intelligence mission. It will not take long, you will take command of the Confessor for as long as my absence."
Majeski now stood in sonaks ready room disgruntled... he looked like a cardassian and it clearly showed that it pissed him off
"Sonak....." Majeski said "This better be worth it"
Sonak handed him a PADD "these are your orders , Find out what the cardassians are trying to prove and find out if they really attacked the klingons and why and you to blow up any military buildings"
Majeski rose an eyebrow "You want to to play with explosives"
There was a blank look on her face then she realized what he meant by that "Yes of all people I chose you to blow up things , so don't get carried away"
"Yes ma'am" Majeski said
"And please report to me every 12 hours ... don't make me worry about you, you wife is about ot me come my assisant medial officer and I don't need to have her looking at your dead body" Sonak said
Majeski only smiled put his hands behind his back and gave a slight bow and turned to leave
"Majeski......wait" Sonak said"On the bridge was it just me or did you save a human?"
Majeski stopped he didn't tune around and look and her his eyes narrowed in irritation at it and then walked out.
"Incoming subspace message from Bellicose "
Captain sonak after re-checking our records we think captain Goodman should be left in command of the Kulaks His has serve on board a klingon Vessel before doing a officer exchange program so he should fill at home doing so
captain you three senior captains are all we have at this time any other command experience officers are trap on board the star base
Captain sonak Starfleet believe that with the Division of marines and the ship you have at your command you can put a end to this cardassian attack and bring this whole situation to a close computer end transmission.
"AYe sir," Sonak sent back to the station, then turned to Fox. "Seems I am not going anywhere at all?"
Soft music floated through the air and the sent of honey flours drifted in whisps. Vines with the flowers lined the walls of the small bamboo shack. Out on the beach couples danced in the breeze enjoying each others company. Others huddled around a camp fire holding glasses and laughing at jokes about hair and people.
The band sat on a stage playing through classic love songs for the dozens of couples who had arrived to the party. Up above them flew a banner which read Graduation 2382 in bold silver and gold letters. The mass of couples swayed to and fro as the sway of waves on the ocean, letting the music carry them away.
Others had congregated around the rickety bamboo bar where the drinks were served. Occasionally one or two guys would egg on another to go ask some girl to dance. Generally the guy being egged on would bail out and slump against the bar. Most were too busy watching a sports game or chatting it up with the bartender to care about the single pretty women.
"Oh come on man, whats the harm in asking her? The worst she could say is no."
"Thats exactly what I don't want to hear."
"Look at her! How could you not? Plus I hear she's the Commandants daughter. Could be good for you to be hooked up with the big mans little girl." One jabbed. "If you want I could go ask her." He put down his glass and got up.
"No no, I'll do it." He grabbed his friend by the shoulder and topped off his drink. He walked over to the group of girls standing a few meters away. His target caught his eye as he approached.
"Well hello there handsum," She said.
All his confidence suddenly deflated, panic filled his eyes. He looked back at his friends, they waved their arms for him to continue.
"Hhh... hhh.. hi," he stampered, his hand scratched the back of his neck, "wanna dance?"
The beautys full lips smiled, "Of course." She took his hand and led him out onto the dance floor. Off in the distance he could hear the cheers from his friend as they ordered a round of drinks in celebration.
The two of them danced slowly, arms wrapped around each other, eyes locked. Niether said a word for what seemed an eternity. Slowly she leaned up and kissed him softly on the lips. She then placed her head on his shoulder and whispered in his ear, "I'm Kate."
"Nick," he replyed stunned at what had just transpired.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Nick awoke with a start as his alarm went off. So much to do today. Luckily Yannis was staying with the Dobsons during these long shifts and this hellish mission. He quickly jumped into the sonic shower to freshen himself up, then dressed and headed to the mess for some coffee before his duty shift.

-On the USS Black Tulip-

As the remains of the Cardassian fleet was either fleeing or floating dead in space, Elron stood up from the command chair and walked to his ready room. "Excellent work everyone. ONE, you have the bridge. Let me know if anything unexpected happens," he said as he left. He sat down at his desk. "Computer, set up a secure channel to the rest of the Second Fleet - authorisation Elron-Gamma-Epsilon-Nine. Transmit the following message." He began to write.

USS Confessor (Vesuvius crew):
Analyse the energy field surrounding Starbase Bellicose and attempt to reverse the effects. Secure the sector and defend it from any further assault. If able, join the Black Tulip in Cardassian territory.

USS Majesty:
Analyse the energy field and attempt to reverse the effects. Review sensor data pertaining to unidentified alien vessel.

USS Raven:
Continue investigating the Dorian mining operation and follow the transport to find out whom it's working for.

The USS Black Tulip is going to travel to the source of the original subspace readings. This is a system a few days journey into Cardassian space. We will find out the true extent of the Cardassian plans and hopefully find out where this technology came from.

He didn't think the Majesty would actually be able to receive it, but it was worth a shot. As the orders were sent, the voice of ONE could be heard over the comm system. "Admiral, there's something happening outside the USS Majesty."
"On my way."
As Elron returned to he bridge, he looked at the view screen and was surprised by what he saw. Clearly magnified on the large screen was a burning banner. It read: USS Majesty Radio 2 88-91 FM 3am ships time... Slap My Top...

Elron shook his head. Only the Majesty crew would think of something so crude and amusing. "Gary, make sure the Vesuvius has seen it too. Bema, prepare a course for Cardassian space. Once we've spoken to the Majesty we'll be making a move."

Reckus woke with a start, Madness' song "Grey Day" playing as his wake up call. He'd forgotten to lower the volume and music now blasted around his quarters.
"Computer, reduce music to volume level 4" beep Volume level 4 selected
He sighed and lay his head back on the pillow. He had needed the sleep so desperately, but initially found it difficult to drop off. However he was grateful that Sonak had ordered that he take at least 12 hours rest. He knew that Ensign Caldwell would need to be relieved soon, as he too was showing signs of sleep deprivation.
Rachel Majeski had also been a great help to the medical team, although seeing her husband in such a state could not have been easy.
He got out of bed and decided to take a nice refreshing shower before reporting back for duty. His first mission after relieving Caldwell would be to check Kate Martens. He was duly worried about her - and even more alarmed by the visions that were coming more and more regularly.

Spedmo looked up as the turbolift doors open and Captain Sonak walked out. "Good morning Captain. How was your sleep?" he asked. "Very well lieutenant. How did shift go last night?" she replied knowing her helmsman didn't get tired."It went well. You have a message from Admiral Elron and I am on my way to grab a bite to eat," the android replied. "Good I want you to be ready to return here at a moments notice," the captain said. "Aye ma'am," the lieutenant replied as he left the bridge.

After thorough analysis of the bubble that surrounded both Starbase Bellicose and USS Majesty, Sonak decided they should do something about it. Also since no live messages between station and ship were possible, someone had to go over there to bring Admiral Clark a recent mission update.

Analysis had shown that time was slightly delayed withing the bubble as it went by slower by approximately 24 hours, so in essence they were still witnessing the battle with the Cardassians.

Sonak had called a briefing only a moment ago, with all departmentheads in attendance. "We need to get to starbase Bellicose," Sonak started, as soon as everyone was seated. "I propose I myself go and Lieutenant Martens. We do not know what the situation is on the station, but we know they are alive. Fox, you will be in command of this vessel and are to go after the Black Tulip, assist them in finding the source of this bubble, what created it and why."

She turned to Nick. "I could use your expertise Lieutenant, you may refuse coming along." She saw Reckus start to rise in protest and she knew exactly why he wanted to protest. "I promise you Jatan I will be careful. I will try not to get into any trouble and I will certainly not pick any handfights." Jatan Reckus sat down but he looked quite glum. Sonak understood his reaction but she felt she had to go. She had the experience in similar situations.

"Mr Martens, report to transporter room one and bring an elaborate engineering kit. I will carry some equipment myself if need be. We will be issued Phaser Rifles and backup-battery."

--- later---

Sonak walked into the transporter room, wearing a case with engineering supplies. She herself had learned a lot from her late husband, who had been an extremely gifted engineer. She knew Nick's qualifications were also above average but she needed him as security officer more.

Together they stepped over on the transporter pad and were transported over instantly. They shimmered a few times before rematerializing completely, after which the Bellicose transporter chief looked at them in sheer amazement.

To both Sonak and Nick the man seemed to be moving in slowmotion, so they could only guess what they looked like to him. A few secons later his movements increased so it was apparent that they were adapting to the timeframe of the station.

"We need to find Admiral Jack Clark," Sonak said, ignoring the man's stares, "it is urgent." The chief gave them directions and both Sonak and Nick walked off, exchanging a look of curiosity and even excitement.

Nick chuckled at the shock they had just given to the chief. It must have looked bizare that a quick flash of blue appeared then two blurs slowly phased into existance, voices going from chipmunk to normal in a few seconds.

He reluctantly gave directions to where the Admiral was stationed today. Nick looked out the window as they walked. There slowly moving in space was the fleets of klingons and cardassians. "Facinating." Sonak commented as they gazed out.

As they walked past a railing which looked down 5 decks they could hear the sounds of battle. Yells and phaser fire echoed up. Nick looked at the Captain, "I'll meet up with you later." Sonak nodded.

He unholstered his rifle and ran to a turbo lift. "Lieutenant Martens to all security personell on decks 11 through 16. fall back to defencive positions."

"Very well," Sonak replied, knowing Nick would indeed meet up later if he were able too. She also knew that he would take charge of the security team if a teamleader failed to take charge.

With that settled, she set on walking towards Jack Clark's office, wondering if he was at all on duty. She tapped her combadge. "Captain Sonak to Admiral Clark, I would like to have a word with you at your convenience, it is important..."

She was about to continue when she heard a sound behind her. She whirled around her rifle at the ready but it was too late. She saw a vague shadow but the weapon aimed at her was cleary of Federation issue. Just when she pressed her own trigger a bright orange beam caught her square in the chest and she was slammed backwards into the bulkhead and slipped to the deck unconscious. The comlink to the admiral was still open.....

Jatan was feeling refreshed and like a new person as he made his way to the bridge. The doors to the bridge opened and he walked through "Permission to come aboard the bridge?" he asked. Commander Fox spun his chair round to face Reckus "You are as always, welcome to the bridge at any time Mr Reckus" he smiled. "You are looking much better Commander" he added. "Thank you Sir, I do feel it" replied Reckus. Jatan looked around the bridge - everyone appeared to look much better than they had done for a long time. "Is there any word yet from Captain Sonak or Lieutenant Martens?" Jatan asked, feeling slightly sick in his stomach. "Not yet Jatan, we are still awaiting communciation from either them or the Bellicose" replied Fox sternly, himself sounding worried. Jatan nodded. "I am going to relieve Ensign Caldwell now, and will be in the makeshift Sickbay if you require me" as he turned to walk through to the Captains ready room.

Majeski hit the ground with a loud splat and he rolled into a pile of garbage * Stupid cardassian* he though
He looked at his wrist and the holoprojector that made him look like a cardassian was fried because some idiot decided he was a spy *technically he was* shot at him now running for his life.

He grabbed to gernades and lobbed them at his pursuers and they whent off next thing he knew three body's came at him

"DAMMIT" HE shouted and ducked as they whent over him "You guys are supposed to go the opposite direction " he yelled at the corpses "Not at me"

He booted the nearst body out of his way and continued running an explostion whent off just ahead of him sending him into a near by river in mid air his last though was *crud*

He hit the waster and found him self now floating down it

*Next time someone asks me about Cardassian Voles never say they are cute* He thought

He was washed up on the side bank at the edge of the city and found a military base full of armed cardassian and more or less to his surprised Romulans.

He decided to contact Sonak "Majeski to Sonak "

"Fox here"

Majeski "WTF? Fox? GAH .... where is sonak ?"

"She is on the bellicose what can i do for you ?" Fox said

"Giving my 12 hour report " Majeski said

"Report?" Fox asked

Majeski threw three more gernades at some storeage space unknown to him containing quantum torpedeos and they went off with several loud explosions

"Ok i think i have the general idea " Fox said slightly amused

"Get ahold of Sonak and Clark and tell them that the Romulans are working for the cardassians and yes they did attack the Klingons as stupid as they are" Majeski said "Majeski out"

He heard to clicks at the side of of his head "Going somwhere elven"

*Oh lovey five faces that only a mother would love * he though and looked up to see five romulans pointing rifles at his head.

~~ Starbase Bellicose~~

Nick sat hunkered down behind a table with a couple other officers. A few feet away on either side were more officers. Four meters on the other side of the hall holed up in a shop were 7 heavily armed Cardassian soldiers.

"There was a flash and some blurs. Suddenly a blur passed Johnson and he fell to the ground, his neck broken." One officer whispered.
Another piped up,"It was brutal, we lost 6 men before they phased into our time. These are the last of the invaders that we could find."

Nick nodded, "Lets move O'mally and thingyson over to the left, Mitchelson and Wagner right. Berg and Whaller will take point and Dakota and I will come in through the ducting system. All right people lets move, COVERING FIRE!!"

With that the group began laying down fire as their comrades moved into positions.

~~~5 minutes later~~~
Nick got the confirmation from the different teams, everyone was in position. With a double tap on his badge the sygnal was sent to move in. Dakota smiled, she and Nick sat together looking over the ragtag group of Cardys through a vent grate. Berg tossed a photonic pulse grenade in ahead of the group to stun anyone too close and the battle began. 3 of the 7 had been taken by the grenade and the others were only more agitated.
One of the Cardassians tossed over a table for cover and began firing at anything that moved. Another was taken down immediatly by a blow to the head from a fallen piece of cieling. The security forces took up strategic positions behind tables and pillars.
"Surrender!" O'mally yelled across the room.
"Never will I do such a thing," A Cardy countered.
Slowly and quietly Nick and Dakota walked up behind the remaining 3. "I suggest you do so. Drop your weapons."
Bewildered at what had just happened the 3 officers dropped their weapons and placed hands on their heads.
=/\=Lieutenant Martens please report to Infimary=/\=
"On my way. Dakota, Whaller and thingyson, you're with me. The rest of you, deal with these P'tak."
The group nodded and the 4 began making their way to sickbay.
Just as admiral Clark walk into the sickbay Doctor Andrea Clarkson had just whipped out her tricorder, and started scanning Captain Sonak . After taking a quick minute to analyze the scans, she opened her med kit, took out her hypo spray, and began looking for the correct vial. She found it, and nodded in satisfaction.
She administered the vial of Rexlin to Captain Sonak "This should relieve most of the pain you've been having. If anything should continue to bother you, please let me know."
She closed her med kit, and stood up. "Admiral sir , a word please."
She walked over to a secluded area of the room, and waited for Admiral Clark to join her.
He approached her. "What is it, Doctor?"
Dr ‘Clarkson glanced around the room, suspiciously. "When I scanned Captain Sonak I discovered that ......" she well did receive a phaser hit to her left shoulder knock her back against the wall knocking her out the phaser hit we have repaired and she is currently out of her coma but sir ….
Admiral Clark:>" I don't have time for this, Doctor. What did you find?" He said.
"I found .that she is four months pregnant " Dr’ Clarkson said bluntly.
"as in pregnant with a baby ?" He asked.
"That's correct, Admiral . I don't see any immediate danger to Captain Sonak , or her child
Admiral Clark:> but Doctor her position in this mission is key. However, when I get back to my office I will star look for a replacement , Doctor I want her kept under close medical observation….
However, for right now, this is between you and I." Jack said.
Dr’ Clarkson nodded, then another officer was both in to the sickbay a Lieutenant O’Malley he also had been shoot with a phaser , much like Captain Sonak had just Been previously……..
Dr’clarkson rushed over to him. She pulled out her tricorder and started scanning.
She closed it a moment later, and summoned the other medical officer. "Crag , prepare standard bandages."
She whipped out her hypo spray, and inserted another vile of Rexlin. She applied it to Lieutenant O’Malley’s neck. She turned back to her medical officer and extended her hand.
"Anabolic Protoplaser."
She received the instrument, and activated it, slowly moving along the large wound in his arm. Within a matter of minutes, the wound was healed.
She stood up, and also helped Lieutenant O’Malley to his feet. "Are you alright, Lieutenant?"
Admiral Clark :> Doctor keep me up to speed on you patints jack taps his comm.badge security this is aDmiral clark I wont you to post a security detal in sickbay and start a top to bottom search for the person that responsible for thise attacks on captain Sonak And now Lt’O’Malley im on my way to operations Admiral out
---- a few hours later -----
Sonak woke up slowly, feeling sore all over and extremely dizzy. She wanted to sit up slowly, as her senses told her they would not handle a normal action of movement. Before she could even move the face of the EMH hovered in her small line of vision.
"o not move captain, you were injured badly."
Sonak squinted against sickbay's bright lightning. "What happened?" she asked, then her eyes widened in shock, "my child!"
"Your child is fine," the EMH said, smiling soflty, then beckoned a nurse. "Lieutenant O'Malley will take further care of you captain. I want you to take a few more hours of rest, if Admiral Clark had not found you as you did, you would not have survived."
Sonak nodded and took no attempt at sitting up. She gazed O'Malley in his eyes. "Send a message to the USS Confessor. Commander Fox needs a status update. Find me Lieutenant Martens, I need to talk to him. Martens is somewhere on this station. We need to get rid of this odd bubble around the station."
O'Malley nodded and walked off to take care of the requests, while Sonak pressed a hand against her head and allowed a soft moan to escape. Finally, she fell back to sleep with a relieved smile curving around her lips.
~~USS Confessor~~
Reckus was on the bridge again, and had heard Chris' mission report. 'Typical' he thought 'only Majeski could get himself into so much trouble'.
Commander Dean was sat at the Operations station when he was alerted to an incoming message. "Doctor, there's an incoming subspace message for you from the CMO of the Bellicose" he said, looking in Jatan's direction. 'That's funny, I wonder why?' he asked himself. "OK Commander, please put it through to the Computer in the Captain's readyroom" he said. "Very good doctor" replied Dean.
Jatan went through to the Captain's room and sat at the desk. The Federation logo was replaced by the face of Andrea Clarkson, the CMO aboard the Bellicose.
"Greetings Doctor Reckus, how are you?"
"I'm well thank you Dr Clarkson. How are things aboard the bellicose?"
"Theyre OK, steady as usual. Sometimes it seems like they never stop coming!"
Jatan laughed although he was beginning to wonder exactly why she had got in touch with him.
"What can I do you for?" he finally asked.
"It's regarding your Captain - I have updates on her current condition"
Jatans blood ran cold. He knew something wasn't right.....
"What happened?" he asked.
"She was hit by phaser fire to the chest, it was somewhat touch and go. Luckilly she was found soon after it had happened" she replied.
Reckus ran his hands through his head "I was afraid this would happen" he said. He looked back up at her face on the screen. "Please download the medical records to this mod and I will add them to the Captain's medical file" he said.
"Very well, I shall do that now."
The monitor flashed up a message FILE TRANSFER IN PROGRESS several times and then it beeped to inform him that the transfer was successful.
"Her child is fine at the moment, no undue distress in the womb noted" she added.
"Well thank you for the update Doctor" Jatan said sadly. "Is there anything else I can help you with?" he asked.
"Well Sonak has been asking after you - she is of course worried about her baby and as you are her CMO it might be of benefit to her treatment and prognosis" she answered.
"It would put my mind at ease but I need to seek permission from the acting CO" replied Jatan. "My AMO is competent enough to look after things here for a few days. I will see what I can do"
"Very well, we shall be hopefully seeing you soon then Commander"
"True, I will let you know when I hear myself. Goodbye Dr Clarkson"
As the monitor went off, Jatan felt a little happier. He left the ready room and went back to the bridge. He approached Fox.
"Commander, I have a really big favour to ask of you...."
"Yes go ahead Doctor." Fox replied.
Then Reckus told Fox a lil what happend and that Sonak was asking for him.
"Ofcourse you can go." Fox finally said after all Reckus had told. "You go pack your things, i'll inform the transporter chief."
"Thank you, Commander" Reckus replied and walked off the bridge."
About half an hour later Reckus entered the transporter room. "Ah, i've been waiting for you an officer behind the transporter console said. Please take ur place at the platform."
Reckus thanked Fox for letting him leave. He packed up his things and restocked the medical field kit. He also downloaded Sonak's medical records into a PADD incase he needed anything from there.
He briefed Ensign Stockwell on Kate Martens and a couple of the other crew's conditions who were still under observation. He bid his farewells to fellow crew members and made his way to the transporter room.....
Counselor Steenbergen walked down the corridor to her newly assinged quarters. However since the USS Confessor is a smaller ship, she had to share her quarters. She was about to find out with whom.
The door swooshed open. And there she was: Prin Lena. Sitting on one of the two beds, she looked up as Claire walked in.
"Well," she said smiling, "I've been waiting for you."
Claire was a bit stupefied, she hadn't seen Lena since she left the 'improvisated' sickbay.
"..., hatchee!" that damn nose, Claire thought, while a flush appeared on her face.
"I wanted to thank you for saving my life...,"
"Oh, it's nothing," interupted Claire.
"So I asked to share your quarters, 'cause I couldn't find you as you were too busy helping the woonded. And so I've brought you this."
The young woman opened her hand, she held a Bajoran earring.
"Here, take it."
"No, I can't it's yours." Claire had noticed the same family emblem as the one sowed on Lena's right sleeve.
"You saved my life, it would be inapropriate not to accept my gift."
The counselor sighed. "Allright. Thank you," she said while she took the earring from out of the Bajoran woman's palm.
"So I see you have Bajoran blood, are you born on Bajor?"
Claire wondered when that was coming up. This time she took a seat before she let out another sigh, yet this one was coloured with slight melancholy.
"Yes I was born on Bajor. unfortunately I don't know who my parents were. They left me in a monastary. Untill my human fosterparents adopted me. I was raised on Earth. I almost don't know anything anymore from Bajor."
"Maybe that is why you joined Star Fleet?" Lena suggested.
"Maybe, but I don't know it for myself yet, I'm still looking for the person who I really am. Bajor isn't too far from here, and yet I didn't visited her yet."
"I see."
Then there was a silence, Claire seemed lost in thought and didn't seem to want to continue her story.
"Well it's late know, and you look tired. Let's go to sleep," the Lena whispered.
Claire Steenbergen knodded and made her way to the bathroom.
Dean hadd been scanning these weird buble for some tiem and what he ot from the sensore didnt make any sense. they seemed to exist inside and outside our normal space and trying to bring them down in the normal space wouldnt be of any use cause both dimesion where the station was, were bind.
"Any suggestion Cmdr Dean ?" Sonak asked.
"No and the reading dont give any sense."
"Why is that ?"
"Well its nearly like the station is here wihout being here."
"Well we see it on our screen."
"Yes captain, but this bubble is some sort of barrier between our dimension and an other dimension of our universe."
"So its some sort of dimension bubble."
"You could call it that way, no the trouble is we dotn know anythin of the dimension inside the bubble. So we dont know what could result from one of our attemps to bring down the bubble. If we had data about the inside then we could start to considere way to get our people out of there. If only we had a way to communicate with them."
Dean stated to think if only they could communicate, crap the station was so near and so far at the same time he was geting anxious that their people would be trapped there for quite some time.
"Damn i can see them but contact them." Dean though "Wait a sec see... contact." It could be the solution why didnt he thought of this earlier.
Laser communication, information brought through light it was used in the 21st century on earth. it seemed the only solution and it was worth a try.
"Captain with your permission i'd like to recofiure the defelctor to emit lasers." Dean said to his captain.
"Lasers... " After a few seconds sonak saw what Dean wanted ot say."Permission granted lets hope this will work commander."
Dean started to modifi the deflector, as he finished he only hoped his plan would work.
Crewmen Rachel Mori pick up a tray full of medical intruments and moved it over to the side of Kate Martens bed and begun checking her vitals wating for Reckus to return for more duties for her,
She served with him as a nurse before but never in a starfleet uniform she tugged at it it was itchy and it felt wierd. She moved over to another crewmember who looked like he was standing near a console when it exploded , she empty pain killers from a hypospray into his neck then gently ran her fingers though his hair and spoke softly to him to reassure him.
She returned to Kate Martens and wrote p her vitals on a PADD and found her self missing her husband , Setting down the tricorder she left Stockwell in charge and whent for a drink in the messhall.
Dr. Clarkson sat down with her lunch, and picked up the daily report to read. She got about halfway finished, when the door chime rang.
"Enter." Andrea said.
One of her nurses entered, carrying a box. "This came addressed for the Medical Department, sir. What would you like me to do with it?"
"It depends, what's inside it?" Andrea asked.
The nurse raised her eyebrow. "It's a uniform sir."
Andrea grinned. "Go ahead and set it down. And please inform Mr. Brielle that he can be discharged once he gets his uniform."
The nurse nodded. "Yes sir." She then turned and left.
Andrea finished eating, and set the report down. She picked up the uniform, and headed out of her office.
She found Ben, and casually walked up to him. She handed him his new flight suit. "I think this belongs to you." She said with a grin.
He said to her "I see you've been promoted Lt?well done"
She nodded gracefully. "Yes. Thank you." She paused very shortly, then continued. "And I've signed your notes. You're free to leave as soon as you want."
He said "Thanks for everything and will you thank everyone else for everything as well please I got to go and report to my squadron and the wing."
Andrea nodded. "Alright. Do you know what to do?"
He replied, "yeah thanks. see ya"
Andrea nodded and headed back to her office.
=/\= Bridge, IKS Krulak =/\=
Captain Hank Goodman sat in the command chair of the IKS Krulak, Captain Mathews to his right in the XO's chair. Major Klag was hovering around the bridge, not exactly thrilled that someone else was in command of her vessel.
Hank spoke first, "Status of the Tobruks?"
"Two troop carriers flanking us as ordered, sir. Ready to follow us into warp."
"And the Starfleet vessel?"
"We're still waiting for acknowledgment from the Sanatoria and the Fighter Wing, Captain "
"Very well. Keep me apprised. Captain Mathews the Bridge is yours." He stood and indicated Braden, "Ready room, Major." Together they left the Bridge....
<<Short, aye, but it sets up everything being ready on the Marine end... Yes sir >>
Reckus was ready. "Ok, lets go for it" he said, and then he looked up at the console "Right Chief, ready when you are" "Good luck doctor" he replied. Reckus' form took on a blue shimmery light as he was beamed to the bellicose transporter room.
When he got there, he began to suffer from the effects of the bubble being around the bellicose - unbeknown to him they were the same effects that Sonak and Martens had experienced when they had beamed across. The Bellicose transporter chief didnt look half as surprised this time - he was getting used to it by now.
Reckus felt fine but it was like someone had pressed the slow play button. Everything about how the chief moved was so slow...and Jatan guessed that he himself must look as if he was on some sort of amphetamines. Suddenly the chief had begun to speed up slightly and then everything seemed normal. Physics wasnt one of Reckus' favourite subjects but he knew that it must be the effect of coming through the bubble and then everything settling down after a few minutes.
"Welcome back to the Bellicose Dr Reckus" said the chief. "I will let Dr Clarkson know that you have arrived"
"Thank you chief, it's nice to be back, although I wish the circumstances could be better" replied Jatan. He made his way through the door and towards the turbolift. He wanted to get to the Bellicose's sickbay as soon as possible.
Sonak was dreaming, something Vulcans did not do often. She had woken up a few hours earlier and had asked for a message to be sent to her ship, after that she had fallen back into her comatose state.
Cries were heard all over the ship, and Sonak sat in the centre chair, frozen in place. She knew not what she could do, apart from hold her stance against the Cardassians, who were winning ground rapidly.
Suddenly someone, she recognized the voice but could not couple it to a name, scream that the warpcore was about to overload.
"Eject! Eject!" Sonak had shouted over the noise, but eject had been impossible as the release clamps had been sabotaged.
"Preparing saucer separation," someone beside her called, Fox she knew. She shot him a grateful glance for his quick thinking. They had just barely separated the drive section from the saucer when the saucer vibrated with the explosion of the drive.
Sonak felt something snap at the back of her mind. She screamed in agony as the bond between her and her bondmate was abruptly broken. She had believed him to be safe with the rest of the engineers, but now she knew she would never look upon her beloved again. She screamed his name.
"Seliv!" Sonak screamed as she bolted upright. Nurses came runing, trying to push her back onto the bed, but she fought them off.
She fought like a lioness defending her cubs, nervepinching the poor nurses as they tried to push her back down. She knew not what exactly she was doing, as she was not awake, she was still dreaming, fighting off cardassians, mistaking the medical personnel for the enemy.
Nick sat next to his captain as she awoke in terror. The nurses rushed over to restrain her only to be rendered unconcious by her neck pinch. The security team that had acompanied Nick stood back as the lieutenant attempted to calm his captain.
"Captain it's ok, you're safe" Nick comforted grasping her hand. Her pulse was racing so fast her body shivered.
"We're under attack!" She yelled as another doctor tryed to give her a sedative. She retaliated by making him join his crewmates on the floor. The two security officers looked at Nick with horror as he comforted Sonak.
"Mr. Martens report!" She ordered in the same panic as when the Vesuvius was destroyed.
"Ma'am we're on the Bellicose. The Vesuvius is destroyed."
A soft "no" left her mouth at the news. She sank to her knees on the floor and began sobbing. Just then Reckus came running into sickbay. Nick put his arm around his captains shoulder and said soflty as not to alarm her, "Jatan is here to help. Let him."
Sonak nodded and Nick and Jatan helped her back up onto the biobed.
Reckus was alarmed to see Sonak in such a state as he came in to Sickbay. Nick Martens was trying to help calm her down as she lay on the floor. He heard Lt Martens say "Jatan is here to help. Let him" and saw Sonak nodding. He put the medical field kit on the trolley next to her bed and got down on the floor with her.
"Captain?" he said looking straight into her eyes. She was sobbing gently as she looked back at him "It's all gone Jatan, all gone" she replied, her voice shaking.
"I know, I know" he said softly. "It's all going to be alright though" he continued, rubbing her arm gently. "Come on, I'm here to look after you now" She nodded and allowed herself to be helped up by her chief of security and medicine. Minutes earlier she had been fighting like a lioness and now she was like a little lamb. "Please let me give you something to calm you down Sonak? I want to make sure you rest now." Jatan asked.
She let herself be lain down on the bed as Jatan administered the calming sedative into her veins.....
Sonak heard familiar voices, her own crew and waned herself on her own ship, in her own sickbay. She felt the hands of the nurses trying to hold her down, though she could not remember how she had ended up on the floor.
She had her eyes open, but saw nothing but images of her dream, of past events, yet she heard Martens tell her that Reckus was here, and heard him plead to her to let him help her.
~who are these people~ something in her mind said. ~my crew~ another part replied fermly.
Sonak shook her head in confusion, as she felt Reckus hand touch her bare arm. ~bare~ she thought, while immediately the response ~sickbay garment~ came up. ~too tight~ she thought, absentmindedly pulling the hem of the shirt in an attempt to widen it.
She felt Reckus presence in her mind, through the simple touch, and she did not know if she wanted him there. Yet, his presence was comforting and she let herself be lifted onto the bed again, after a tranquillizer was administered.
Sonak felt the medication take effect and her muscles relaxed, and she let out a sigh. Yet when she closed her eyes, her dream started all over again, but this time she could not bolt upright, scream out but she could cry. Tears streamed down her face as she relived past events. She wanted to reach out to her friends, knowing that they were standing beside her. She wanted this to be over, move on, but she found it hard to let go however illogical it may be.
Finally, the dream ended and she fell into a restless sleep, dreaming of her late husband, how they had met, the birth of their twins and now the birth of her unborn. Would their children grow up without a father?
The dream ended also, end this time her sleep was fitful and dreamless, as it should because Vulcans never dreamt.
The readings from his tricorder were not giving Reckus too much cause for concern, but the deep dream like state that seemed to have taken a hold of Sonak was causing her body to twitch involuntarily from time to time and as Jatan looked up he saw tears rolling down her face. But as he gazed at her face he saw deeper than the facial features of his Captain, it was like he was seeing into her soul and her thoughts. He could see and feel the thought processes and emotions coursing through her body and mind. He touched her arm gently and felt what was like static electricity in his fingers. Before his eyes it was like a mist had cleared, and he could see clearly what Sonak saw. He kept his hand on her arm and shut his eyes. He didn't know if it would do any good but he tried to send positive and warm feelings to the Captain. Maybe it would help her to recover. His arm became warmer as he visualised a white light from his hand slowly going up Sonak's arm. It was strange but he could almost feel her response - that she knew he was there and trying to help. But it suddenly all became too much for him and he withdrew his hand. Whatever was happening to him he didnt understand fully, and he had a gut feeling that if it spiralled out of his control it could do more harm then good.
Jatan sighed - he had to sit down as he felt slightly dizzy and drained. As he went to sit down he got the shock of his life - in the reflection of the glass in the office he saw Seliv. He looked back but in that split second the figure had gone. He shook his head and told himself that he was just seeing things.
Nick Martens came back into Sickbay. "Hey Doc" he said "How's the Captain doing?" Jatan looked across to the Captain and then back at Nick "She's OK. A bit more stable then when I first arrived" Reckus replied. He didnt want to share what had happened between him and Sonak just yet.
"Whats happening? You look a little flustered" asked Reckus.
"We just got a message from the Majesty. It seems they've figured out how to get past the barrier."
"Thats great!" Jatan remarked.
"Well no. It turns out that the barrier is sentient."
Jatans eyebrow went up in surprise. "Sentient!?"
"I apparently has a great fear of fire. The Majesty managed to get out by burning standard issue boxer shorts in close proximity to it." Just then the lights dimmed then came back to full. "It's draining station power and if we don't so something soon we'll have none left."
=/\= Clark to Martens=/\=
"Martens here sir."
=/\=Could you meet me in Ops. We're having a department meeting on how to deal with this thing. I'd like you to attend as you are the acting head of security.=/\=
"Aye sir, I'll be right there."
Several hours later, Sonak woke up feeling much better. Yet she felt something was amiss, as the nurses stared at her very peculiarly.
She remembered nothing of her dreams, or her actions during her comatose state. She sat up slowly and glanced about herself, taking in her surroundings. "How did I end up here?" she wondered aloud, as her memory of previous events returned. She just looked up to see her tactical officer re-enter sickbay and exchange a few quiet words with her chief medical officer.
Suddenly Sonak heard something and she tilted her head to listen. It was not the nurses whispering amongst themselves, for they had cleared the area. Nor was it the whispered conversation between Jatan and Nick, this sounded differently.
Sonak listened, extremely concentrated, trying to catch the conversation, but it was not exactly that, it was more of a feeling. ~who are you~ Sonak thought, hoping that whoever was 'speaking' would pick it up and respond. Then Martens approached and told her that the bubble surrounding the station was sentient.
"I believe the bubble is trying to communicate," Sonak said softly, and looked at Reckus, "are you picking up anything? I am hearing some sort of whispering, but I cannot understand who or what is trying to communicate." She looked at Martens. "What is your hypothesis?"
"It would make sense that it would communicate telepathicly. It's not like it can verbally say 'hi'." Nick smirked. "But I'm hearing the whispering as well."
"You? Telepathic?" Jatan looked shocked.
"It's rare for my people but it is possible. Not very strong, but it's there."
"Wheres a betazoid when you need one." Ensign Whaller quipped from behind Nick.
"Indeed." Sonak said from her biobed.
"We could try using low range radio and subspace signals. Short of haveing a Betaziod or doing a mind-meld, if that would even be possible, we're going to have to try conventional means of communication."
Each of the crew members sat around, grim looks on their faces. Nicks face suddenly lit up.
"What if we took a shuttle to the perimeter and allowed the thing to take control of it's systems. It would allow it to use the communications systems to make contact with us."
Sonak returned the smirk. "Not that I would really need to mindmeld, but your idea is sound. We should try the shuttle, perhaps we could communicate with it and tell it it is a danger to the station."
She got up from the biobed and joined her officers. Let us go to OPS and see if the admiral agrees with us."
Reckus was listening intently to Sonak and Martens discussion. suddenly he heard something else other than their conversation. He wasn't sure what to do but decided to try and converse with it in his head. 'No harm in trying' he thought to himself. ~what do you want?~ he asked in his mind. ~information; knowledge~ came the response. "Captain, come down to ops in 15 mins. I will discuss with Admiral Clark our ideas, Reckus you come too buddy" Reckus and Sonak nodded. Martens left Sickbay and then there was only Sonak and himself still there. Sonak was sitting up looking at Reckus, she had heard the exchange between him and whatever the bubble really was. "You are becomming mentally stronger Jatan" she remarked. Jatan nodded "I have really felt that recently" he responded. "What information do you think it wants?" she asked trying to think what a bubble could want with Starfleet. Jatan rubbed his chin thoughtfully "I honestly have no idea" he answered. "But it's good to know that we can communicate with it. Much better than burning boxer shorts at it!" Sonak agreed as she had never heard of anything like burning standard issue underwear at a being. "Jatan, I think I have an idea" she said suddenly.....
Sonak explained her idea to Jatan, reminding herself to brief Martens when they met up again.
"Here is the idea. We sent a shuttle out of the docks on autopilot and ask the creature to take over the shuttle, then it can send communications using the shuttle's computer to the station, or make contact with someone in the shuttle directly. We could get to learn a lot from this creature, and in return it can learn from us. The shuttle we can fill with information from our database. I hope the short burning has not scared it."
She gave her friend a wan smile as the idea unfolded itself. "It is worth a shot. We shall see what martens and Clark think of it."
The two headed for OPS and explained the idea to Martens and Clark, who stared back at them in wonder.
=/\= Sickbay =/\=
Andrea walked out of her office, a PADD clutched in her hand. She found Ben, sitting up on a bio-bed. She handed the PADD to him. "Here you are Lt," Reckus
"What's that?"
"Just read it."
He turned to her. "Thanks." As she handed him the other PADD.
She saw the grin appear on his face. "I take it your happy then?"
"Yeah thanks, and thanks for everything you and your staff have done and will you thank them for me."
"Of course Lieutenant . Let me congratulate And good luck Lieutenant."
"Thank you, Doctor...now can I get out of here Captain sonak ask ?" she flashed her a smile.
She gave a slight chuckle. "Sure thing Captain ." She reached into the deep pocket of her blue lab coat and pulled out her personal medical tricorder. She opened it up, and pressed a few buttons on it.
"Well," she began her synopsis. "over all, you're as healthy as a horse. You've healed up nicely." She closed the tricorder and returned it to her coat. She headed to a table of PADD's and filled it in with the correct information. She brought it to her, and pointed to a discreet blank spot on it. "I need you to put your thumbprint right there, please."
She watched eagerly as she complied with her request.
After he was finished, she returned the PADD to her, where she placed her thumbprint in the blank box on the other side.
"You're free to go, Captain . Have a nice day!"
"Thank you, Doctor."
She watched him depart, and walked into her office. She took the PADD and slid it in her filing cabinet of release forms, then returned to her chair. It was not but 5 seconds later, when her comm. badge chirped.
"Cmdr, Christopher to Dr Clarkson."
"Doctor Clarkson here. What can I do for you, cmdr ?"
"Doctor, I need you to send a physician to deck nine . An inexplicable injury was sustained in the storage bay . Can you have someone there in five minutes?"
"Yes, sir . I’ll be ready for a briefing in half an hour. I've been meaning to get out." Andrea said with a grin.
" out."
Andrea scurried for her emergency med-kit, snatched it up, and returned to the main sickbay. There she loaded it with a few extra vials of medicine, trying to prepare for any kind of encounter. After she had loaded the kit to the point where she was satisfied, she charged out the door and headed for deck nine then she could still have time to be at the senior command briefing. which will start in 25 minutes.
The three officers of the USS Vesuvius/Confessor were gathered in a meeting with Admiral Clark, explaining their findings on the bubble.
"We feel that we can establish communication with it and tell it that it is harming us," Sonak commented, "we therefor ask permission to take a shuttle just out of the hangars and try to talk to it, ask it to kindly remove itself from the proximity of this station."
Clark nodded, then gathered his PADDs. "Take a shuttle and do whatever you feel necessary." He stood up and walked out, leaving the three officers alone.
"Well, let us get to it then," Sonak said.
-- somewhat later --
Reckus, Martens and Sonak had taken out Shuttlecraft Conspiracy and Martens had maneuvred it so that it was hovering between the edge of the bubble and the station.
Reckus had configured the computer so that the entity would be enabled to read the databases and communicate by voice should that become necessary. The three of them concentrated on contacting the entity, holding hands in an attempt to increase their personal power.
~we invite you to enter our computer~ they thought ~your presence is harming us, please remove yourself from the station~
The consoles sparked as the entity obviously complied. They opened their eyes and saw that the bubble was indeed gone from the station, and it was not surrounding the shuttle either.
"I am here," the entity said, clearly audible, "and I regret having caused you harm. I thank you for your information, and shall attempt to leave information of my own species into the computer of your station. Now that I have entered this craft, I cannot leave it."
Sonak permitted a small smile. "Allow us to beam back to the station and the craft is yours to explore the universe. Please return to us some time to tell us of your travels."
The entity made a happy sound and the trio beamed back aboard the station, while the shuttle took off to explore the universe.
"Sonak to USS Confessor, three to beam aboard."
~~ USS Confessor
"Sonak to USS Confessor, three to beam aboard."
"Aye Ma'am" The officer in the transporter room replied and activated the transporter. He also notified Fox that he was beaming the three officers back onboard.
Fox stood up from his chair and rushed off the bridge leaving Dean in command. When he arrived at the transporter room Sonak, Reckus and Martens were just walking off the platform.
He greeted them "Welcome back." He smiles.
In the mean time, Claire and Lena arrived on the bridge seeing Dean in command. They asked where Fox was and Dean told them he went to the transporter room to welcome Sonak back onboard the Vesuvius.
Already they arranged some things for the party on the bridge. Now that almost no one was there they could finish their prepairations.
~~and so ends the fleet mission~~
