After a enjoying a few days of leave aboard Bellicose, and welcoming back an old crewmember, Sonak believed now was the time to gather her senior staff and get the ordered drills over with. In the mean time, repairs to the ship were progressing well on schedule, though Sonak had to put questions to the capability of Commanders Martens and Byrne in working together.
So far, the two men seemed to get their work done in time, but on very rare occasions they actually worked together on something. ~perhaps the ordered drills will change that, and create more unity among my crew~ she thought as she walked onto the bridge.
"Commander Meylor, please send a message to all senior staff to report in the briefing room in one hour. And please make it clear that I will not tolerate latecomers, and if they do manage to arrive late they will face three days of brig time, and a note on their records."
Without awaiting Meylor's reply, and ignoring L'Ola's surprised glance, she marched off the bridge and into the primary briefing room. She had some work to prepare, and decide who would run the first drill scenario. With Logan and Nick busy in engineering neither were a very logical choice to start, and since L'Ola was still busy sweeping the ship she wasn't a good choice either. Fox, she felt needed to get his attentions honed first since she had discovered he'd been slacking in the science department. Trey had moved off the Vesuvius, leaving the SMO position vacant, much to L'Ola's delight it seemed.
"Nack," she murmured, glancing over her senior staff manifest, "yes he is the perfect choice. Gives me the opportunity to observe his command abilities, as well as his people skill."
Sonak looked up when the first of her senior staff were walking in, and when finally everyone had arrived, she opened their meeting. "As you all know, Starfleet has ordered us to undergo a series of departmentally run drills, before we are ordered towards Earth for interrogations, for unknown reason I might add. Commander Nack, you have been selected to run the first drill scenario. You will hand in your guidelines to each senior staff member by 0800 tomorrow morning, upon which every member will report to your designated area at your designated time. Your ability to run this drill will be evaluated, but every other staff member, including Commander Martens and myself, will be evaluated in their participation. Failure to participate will result in a reprimand on your permanent record. Any questions?"Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Nack on Jan 3, 2007, 6:44
Interrogations?! Surely it wasn't because of anything he had done. Nack's worrisome look turned to petrified, as he was caught off guard with Sonak's request for him to start the Drills.
Nack protested. "Commodore, permission to speak freely."
Sonak nodded.
"I believe I am a bad choice to go first with drills. I have never been in charge of leading drills before," Nack's eyes looked upward in thought, ", which also means I haven't failed of course..." Nack came back to his point, "but, wouldn't it be wise to have a more experienced officer go first?"
"Are you telling me you are not prepared, Doctor?"
"... I... I... never said that.." Nack knew he was not going to get anywhere with this argument. "Have everyone report to sickbay tomorrow," Nack glanced a quick shot at Logan, "if the path there is cleared by then." The Doctor was not particularly angry about the littered entryway to sickbay, as he was angry at the events that took place the last time he was in Logan's company. Logan didn't seem to register the anger, and Nack's cynical statement was lost.
"We will start drills at oh-six-hundred hours. Commodore, Commander," Nack looked at Sonak and Nick respectively, "I expect you two to be there as well."
Both acknowledged. Nack excused himself. The feeling of fear in him subsided as he walked back to sickbay to prepare. It was now more a feeling of pride and bigness, knowing that he was in charge.
Arriving, Nack started barking orders. "Alice... Gather all the spare med kits. We are a go as of tomorrow morning."
Alice shook her head. The power trip the Ferengi was on was going to get him into trouble. She just knew it.
OOC: If everyone would now kindly post themselves into sickbay relatively quick, I would be much obliged. It doesn't have to be anything major, just let me know you are alive.

"Commander Meylor, please send a message to all senior staff to report in the briefing room in one hour. And please make it clear that I will not tolerate latecomers, and if they do manage to arrive late they will face three days of brig time, and a note on their records."
Meylor looked up from intense concentration on his console, and took a moment to digest the order. "Aye-aye, ma'am." Moving to the commmunications board at Kanz's station, Meylor noticed her surprised glance, then proceeded to open the intercom and announce the order. Having done that particular duty, he muttered under his breath to the security chief as he checked how the diagnostic on the ship-to-ship comm was proceeding. "Don't worry about the Commodore; she's just trying to run a tight ship for when it comes time to face the top brass."
Kanz answered in similarly hushed tones. "No kidding, but just what is it we're all getting ready for? An official inquiry? Reassignment? The Vesuvius getting mothballed? Nobody seems to know anything definite, and a lot of rumors are beginning to circulate. And I know you haven't been around to find out, but Nick and Logan might even be subject to court-martial for their actions on the last mission. Our efforts to return to grace might end being nothing more than shifting deck chairs around on the Titanic."
Meylor raised his eyebrows in mild alarm and bemusment. "Like I said, don't worry. We've all gotten out of tighter spots before, and most of them with the Commodore right behind us all the way. Whatever happens, we're still a crew, no matter where we serve."
<one hour later in the Briefing Room>
Sonak looked up when the first of her senior staff were walking in, and when finally everyone had arrived, she opened their meeting. "As you all know, Starfleet has ordered us to undergo a series of departmentally run drills, before we are ordered towards Earth for interrogations, for unknown reason I might add. Meylor spoke up. "Forgive my ignorance, but just what do these `drills` entail? I'm afraid I'm not up on current protocol...yet."Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commodore Sonak Reckus on Jan 4, 2007, 22:12
~briefingroom~
"Forgive my ignorance, but just what do these `drills` entail? I'm afraid I'm not up on current protocol...yet."
Sonak cast her COO a sympathetic look. "You have missed quite a lot Commander Meylor," she told him, "we have been ordered to perform drills since starfleet command believes we cannot function as a unit, and instead seem to function as loose individuals. Thus these drills are to make sure we learn to work together in time of need, and perhaps learn something from it as well. Each department will run a series of...practical issues for others to participate in, thereby hopefully creating a feeling of unity."
~next morning~
Sonak woke up at 5am, turned to caress jatan's cheek then stepped out of bed in one fluid motion. After a quick shower, breakfast and a cup of coffee, she was ready to report to sickbay for the medical drill. Being a medical officer by training herself, she didn't believe it should prove too difficult for her. This could possibly mean she could devote more time to others and help them along.
At 6am sharp, she walked into sickbay and waited for the rest to show themselves. "What have you planned for us doctor?" she asked, as she approached the smaller chief medical officer.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Nack on Jan 6, 2007, 9:23
Nack paced anxiously. "Where is everyone? I told them oh-six-hundred hours!"
"It's five-fifty, Doctor." Alice said cringing, unsure if it was wise to correct the doctor in his condition.
"It's like what they say on Ferenginar... The early merchant gets the latinum." Nack was still pacing.
"Isn't it the early bir... never mind."
Nack ignored her. As he was about to slap his combadge, Sonak walked in. Nack looked at his wrist, as if a timepiece was there to show tardiness, and then back up at his commanding officer.
The Commodore didn't see the need to engage the Doctor so early in the morning, and simply asked what the duties for the day were.
"Well, if truancy prevails, I have a decent set of tasks for the crew." Nack walked over to the computer monitor, depressurizing his temper with each step.
"First, we are going to give everyone a crash course on med-kit first aid. Most people know the hypospray bit, however, there are some techniques for administering these that I would like to go over, and test everyone on. I am sure you will be fine, Commodore." Nack just made the connection that Sonak was medically trained, which caused him to sweat from his bald head.
"Here, I made a holodeck simulation of a crisis situation. Our crew will be handling a large number of patients, and will have to create a basic triage system. This would most likely be their role if such a thing did occur anyway. They should already be trained to respond this way."
"And, I think finally, I would like to administer a short quiz on alien physiology and common medicinal treatments." Nack seemed rather pleased with himself. The Holodeck simulation itself would take a full day, and the quizzes and med-kit usage another."
Nack finished in a smile, which he quickly turned upside down when he realized it was 06:05 and only Sonak was present aside from Alice.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Nick Martens on Jan 6, 2007, 20:48
Nick and the rest of the Sr. Staff stood in sickbay waiting for Nack and Sonak. They snickered to themselves about how he hadn't specified which sickbay the meeting was to be in. Rumors of Nacks time sensitivity had been circulating around the ship and they sought to test it out.
Nick looked at his time piece, it stated 6:10 and he just smiled to himself.
"3-2-1," he muttered aloud and like clockwork their combadges activated with a message from the Doctor.
=/\= All Sr. Staff are to report to sickbay immediately. Expediency is the key people.=/\=
Nick held out his hand and the others put a strip of latinum on it. Meylor looked particularly dejected.
"I was so sure it would be at 6:08," he shook his head and followed the crew towards the door."
"Hold up everybody, we've got one more thing to do," Nick stated cryptically. He hit his combadge in reply.
"Doc, this is Nick. We're in sickbay," he looked at L'Ola who stifled a giggle. He could just see the Ferengis' blood pressure just sky rocketing.
=/\=What!?=/\= came Nacks puzzled reply.
"Sometimes it's hard to remember which sickbay you're supposed to go to, being that we have three. You just gotta tell us which one and we'll be there," he calmly stated.
=/\=Main sickbay. Make it quick commander. Nack out.=/\=
~~a few minutes later~~
The remainder of the staff entered the main sickbay to find Nack buzzing around the room. Upon seeing them he started passing out med kits and began his lecture on hypo-spray safety.
"First check your dosage, last thing you want to do is kill them with an overdose," they all checked their dosage, in this case it was sedative." Next place the hypo spray against the patients neck or shoulder and press the button on the top."
Nick pressed his hypospray into his shoulder to check the motion and bumped the button. A soft hiss was heard and his world began swimming.
Nack looked over at the XO and shook his head. A little fairy was seated on his shoulder smiling at everyone in the room, and a little dwarf was polishing everyones boots. And then the world went black with a thud.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Nack on Jan 9, 2007, 8:59
Everyone stood around, staring at Nack, as if to say "What are you going to do?" As far as Nack was concerned, he got what he deserved. They all knew what he meant by sick bay. As far as he was concerned, he deserved at least a 10%... nay, 20% commission on the bets that took place on his actions. Nack took a slip of latinum left exposed in Nick's side pocket. Nobody noticed.
It was just a sedative. The only pain the First Officer might feel is the bump on his head from hitting the console on the way down. Dr. Nack did not panic. Instead, he turned to Commander Meylor, since nobody else seemed to be attentive.
Commander Meylor, what do you suggest we do?
<Meylor>
Nack watched the new Chief Operations Officer tend to Nick, while Sonak fiddled with the new hypospray model she had given Nack a few weeks past.
"That thing is pretty neat. I've never needed to use it yet, though."
L'ola helped Meylor move Nick to a bed.
"Ok, crew. If you want to be successful at these drills, you are going to have to participate more." Nack said, eying those who had not spoke since Drills began. Logan had skirted the Medical drills, by orders from the Admiral, and was not present. Everyone counted him lucky.
"Alice, do you have the holodeck program queued up?"
Alice looked dumbfounded. "You... you never told .. me.."
"It's ok, it's ok" Nack blushed in embarrassment, "go ahead and do that now." Alice scurried off.
"Just a short delay until our next part of the Drills. I think everyone should use this time to brush up on their triage skills."
Nack grabbed his hypospray from the Commodore's hands, accidentally doing it forcibly. Embarrassed again, Nack apologized. "I'm just a bit agitated, that's all. It appears nobody respects the Doctor here."
OOC from the CO: Meylor's a Bajoran hence he'd be addessed as Commander Meylor, Paht being his first name. And last time I checked my name is still Sonak on this ship. Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Fox on Jan 10, 2007, 10:27
[color=LimeGreen]"Just a short delay until our next part of the Drills. I think everyone should use this time to brush up on their triage skills."
Fox looked over a list of medical scenarios Nack had provided to all and tried to sort all the cases in their right category. After a little while he handed a pad to Nack.
"There you go doctor, i think they're all in the right category." Nack looked at him "that was quick commander" he answered and took the pad and put it on his desk, walking to the others first to see how they were doing.
Fox looked around sickbay while Nack was going through the pad. He didn't like sickbay's. He had already spent too much time in them on his previous ships, recovering from severe injuries.
Finally, it had seemed like forever to Fox because he was going through sickbay memories, Nack gave the pad back to Fox.
<Nack>Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commodore Sonak Reckus on Jan 10, 2007, 22:57
Sonak turned the new hypospray over and over in her hands, trying to find the activation button. It looked sleeker than the previous but obviously new uses had need of a manual. She watched in amusement as Nick collapsed onto the deck, obviously having shot home something other than an isotonic saline solution.
Confident that there would be no suck trick played on her, she pressed the hypo against her arm, after finally having located the activation switch. She heard the tell-tale hiss of fluid being injected and felt the brief pressure of it as well. Nothing happened subsequently so she moved on to ordering the med-kit as was ordered and made sure that everything was accounted for before handing the PADD to Nack. She was still holding the hypospray in her hand as he approached.
Nack grabbed his hypospray from the Commodore's hands, accidentally doing it forcibly. Embarrassed again, Nack apologized. "I'm just a bit agitated, that's all. It appears nobody respects the Doctor here."
She glanced down at him in surprise as the medical item was yanked from her grasp, as though she wasn't supposed to handle it. "Easy there doctor, I do not bite," she softly chided him, knowing he'd hear. "There is no need to be agitated, doctors generally are not liked because they tend to get associated with something unpleasant." She nodded towards the science chief. "Commander Fox looks a bit pale around the nose, perhaps we should nominate him as our patient to...play with?"Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Nack on Jan 13, 2007, 8:35
Alice came into the room, and gave Nack a nod. Nack wrapped up his speech on medical ethics. Any other ethical situation would be a blurry topic for the Ferengi, but medicine - that was something where Nack actively avoided his instincts.
"Alright. I think we are ready for the holodeck. Alice, can you lead everyone down there... I wouldn't want anyone to get lost." Nack knew his drill was not top priority for everyone. He told himself that he was going to drag his feet in everyone else's as a payback. The Commodore played along, seemingly happy.
Arriving at the holodeck, Alice started the simulation, and left. Nack walked in first, with the rest in tow.
"This simulation will give you a somewhat realistic view of what an extreme medical emergency would be like. I took the liberty of creating a brand new bridge, a design that does not exist yet."
"and probably never will with the nav console missing." someone said. Nack didn't hear, luckily.
"In a moment, there will be an accident," Nack went to the arch "Computer, queue crew." There were about 15 people on the large bridge.
"When the explosions are through, we will be the team that comes to their rescue. Now, not every one of you are experienced in the microsurgeries some of the wounded require. Commodore Sonak, you would normally be aboard your own ship, with Nick here leading the away team... however, I don't think it would hurt to brush up on your medical skills. You can join me in organization of the triage teams."
Nick still looked a bit out of it, but was up for continuing with the training.
"The rest of you will be organizing the wounded, scanning them for signs of survivability. The computer is programmed to create a 20% death rate. Each simulation, however, will yield different problems with different crew. You cannot save everyone, therefore, you must save the savable. Everyone understand?" Everyone nodded uneventfully.
"You must verbally diagnose the patient, which will cue the computer of your decisions. In a normal situation, the doctors on staff would perform surgeries on those you recommend."
With that, Nack started the simulation "Computer - start simulation alpha 3 -4, difficulty level EASY"
Nack winked at Sonak. This was going to be interesting.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by L'Ola Kanz on Jan 16, 2007, 1:26
The idea of a medical drill had actually appealled to L'Ola. During her science training she'd taken quite an interest in the medical side of things, and had even at one stage considered taking the extra training. Now she thought about it, there were a lot of things that she'd never quite got round to doing. Something to remedy later.
So standing on a holodeck, armed with a medical tricorder and a handful of hyposprays wasn't the worst thing ever. She crouched down by the first 'injured crewman' she got to. "Okay, definitely got a pulse, and yep he's breathing. It's a little shallow but it's there. Looks like the wounds are okay to leave for now, nothing major internally." She put a tag on his wrist, "We'll get back to you later when we've checked the others" she told him, in case he was listening.
Moving on to the next patient she caught sight of Nick entering the room out the corner of her eye. Obviously recovered from the medication, L'Ola had the sneaking suspicion he was contemplating knocking himself out again. The idea of helping a group of injured holograms didn't appeal as much to him, apparently.
"This guy's unconcious and it looks like he may have internal injuries" she carried on doing scans and checks ~ Knock yourself out again and I will not be impressed. ~
~ And what are you going to do about it it I do? ~
She smirked, ~ Oh I don't think you want to know that. Look, if this whole thing is annoying you so much then you can always help me with my patient. Team work and all that... ~
As she finished the checks and looked up again, she saw Nick had walked over in her direction. "Need a hand?" he asked, grinning.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Nack on Jan 16, 2007, 6:50
Nack and Sonak stood off to the side as the final simulation ended. The padd in Sonak's hand recorded the results of the holodeck simulation after its 32nd run. Nick was dripping with sweat, and L'ola looked as if she was going to pass out.
Nack looked over the shoulder of Sonak, jumping a bit to get a view of the padd. The summary at the top of the screen, which was all he could see, stated that someone had failed the simulation.
"It appears someone has failed the simulation." Nack said, indignant that someone had not tried hard enough.
Sonak was about to speak, but Nack cut her off.
"You are Starfleet officers. You were trained in this before, why is this so hard?"
The officers began to protest, as all of them had tried rather hard, and felt as if the simulation was rigged for failure. Sonak was trying to nonchalantly get Nack's attention, but he kept into his tirade.
"I programmed this simulation to be similar to the worst possible situation that we could be in. There is definitely no possible way this simulation was flawed."
Sonak was tapping Nack on the shoulder. He turned around, "WHAT!..", recognizing his tone, he changed inflection, "I mean... what, Commodore?"
Sonak didn't say anything, she just showed the padd to Nack. He had seen that one person had failed. What he didn't see, just below, was that the computer had flagged Dr. Nack as the failure.
"Well.. that's ... that's impossible." Nack looked at the rest of the crew, who figured out what was going on simply from the sense of irony emanating throughout the room.
"HEh.. I mean, every program has its flaws, right? I mean seriously, I didn't do everything I could because I was trying to oversee you guys." Nack's pleas were ignored, as people slowly filtered out of the holodeck, exhausted.
"Wait comrades... I mean.. crew.. I really didn't really mean what I said about.." but it was too late. The only person left to hear him was Commodore Reckus.
<Commodore>
"Thanks for being understanding. These last few days have been really rough, considering the lack of participation on the part of the rest of the crew. I appreciate your help in all of this."
Nack's request to be excused was granted, and he left for his sickbay. If only the ship's counselor had been aboard, he would go see her right now. "Perhaps Alice would be consoling." he thought, as he entered his office and sat down his chair, allowing his large forehead to make a thud on the desk. His drill was a success... but he couldn't help feeling like a complete failure.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Fox on Jan 17, 2007, 12:37
Together with the rest of the officers Fox left the holodeck. Exhausted and a bit shocked of everything he had seen today. Nack had made the simulation very realistic, he had seen medical situations he had hoped never to see.
He wandered a bit through the corridors of the ship, on his way to his quarters. He knew very well that now Nack had ended his drill he would be next. But first some well earned rest. Finally he stood before the doors of his quarters and entered.
Inside he walked immediately to the replicator and ordered a cup of coffee, black. Then he went over to a chair and sat down, taking a sip from the coffee and then put the cup down on the table close by.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commodore Sonak Reckus on Jan 18, 2007, 23:15
Sonak stared at the PADD in her hand in disbelief. How could the person running the scenario fail? A person could not fail his own department, it was unheard of. Surely computer assessment made a mistake on this? She watched the chief medical officer depart the holodeck, then called L'Ola Kanz back.
"I had intended on the science department running the next drill however I have noticed that with so many new staff they are not fit to run one just yet. You are up next to run a security drill...and please make it worth our while?"
(Kanz)
"You have until 0800 tomorrow to come up with a workable scenario," she told her CTSO, then retired to her quarters for the evening. She let Jatan massage her shoulders as she sat down to check her messages. There was one from Elron that she knew would lift a certain someone's spirits. Smiling, she pointed out the message to Jatan.
"Yes that'll boost his dented confidence," Jatan grinned in response. "Be easy on the poor guy my wife," he teased, "it's bad enough he thought he was going to get booted when you promoted him. He's scared enough as it is."
Sonak smiled, then tapped her combadge. "Doctor Nack, please report to my quarters." She tapped her combadge again. "Commander Byrne, status report...I want to know when my ship is fit to fly again!"
(Nack/Byrne)
When Nack finally arrived, Sonak handed him a PADD. "Perhaps this will boost your confidence a little," she said softly, "you have been approved as acting first officer aboard the USS Victory. You are to transfer there at your earliest convenience."
(Nack)Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Meylor Paht on Jan 19, 2007, 0:14
"Commander Meylor, what do you suggest we do?"
As he watched Nick fall, Meylor's eyes widened in surprise; what was going on here? Was this all part of the drill, or was something actually amiss with their first officer. Nick had certainly fallen down rather convincingly. Whatever the case might be, Meylor immediately began gingerly lifting Nick's limp body, L'Ola came over to help him, and together they set their patient on the nearest biobed. When the sensors in its top surface detected the new occupant, the biobed's status display instantly snapped on, and lifesign readings began to appear.
Satisfied that Nick's readings were stable for the moment, Meylor asked L'Ola "Alright, it looks like he's not in serious condition; according to this, he's only been exposed to a mild sedative in his bloodstream. In addition, he sustained a small bruise to the left side of his head when he fell. If I remember right, we can treat the bruise with a vascular regenerator, and the sedative condition with a mild stimulant and run a plasma scan to filter out the foreign substance from his bloodstream." Meylor had been feeling rather uncertain about all this, but the guideline from his Academy first aid courses were coming back to him.
L'Ola, seemigly unperturbed by anything, retrieved a medical tricorder from the instument cart next to the bed, and began running a thorough scan of Nick's cardiovascular system. "First, Commander, we should probably do this more intensive scan, focusing on the bloodstream, to confirm the precise nature of the foreign substance and all effects it may be having on the patient. The biobed scanner can only pick up so much; when a foreign substance is involved a somewhat more detailed scan is recommended. See?" She held up the tricorder for Meylor to read, and Meylor quickly understood what she meant.
Apparently the sedative was having an unexpected side effect on Nick's physiology; since he was Tandaran, his bloodstream worked with great efficiency to filter out such foreign material from his bloodstream, depositing the material in special section of his liver where certain enzymes were meant to recycle the material into usable cytoplasm. Problem was, this particular sedative couldn't be broken down in the normal manner by Nick's liver, causing the liver functioning to be slowed by the sedative. Suddenly, Meylor realized that removing the sedative quickly was of paramount importance if Nick's condition was to be kept from getting significantly worse. Feeling that nervous flutter in his gut again, Meylor went about setting up the plasma scan. "You saved my butt, Commander, and Nick's liver. Thanks." Commander Kanz simply nodded and carried on.
<later, in the Holodeck>
Meylor found himself with a simulated medkit in hand and a scene great tumult all around. Something buffeted the entire room, seemingly removing the floor under his feet, and Meylor tumbled down hitting his face pretty good. He scrambled for a foothold, got himself up again, and headed for handheld extinguisher clipped to a nearby bulkhead just for emergency situations like this. Apparently, power to the fire suppression fields had been lost, and the combustion of a ruptured EPS relay couldn't be stopped.
The fire was soon robbed of its ignition source as Meylor covered the wall in repellant; however, he hadn't been able to prevent a nearby crewmen from sustaining serious burns to the chest, face, and arms. Meylor didn't need triage rules to tell him that this patient required immediate care, and he tried to call to Sickbay through his commbadge, which he soon discovered was absent, having fallen off during his earlier fall. They've got to invent a better adhesive strip for those things he thought. Now was not the time for idle speculation or for anything else; if he couldn't get his patient to Sickbay (and now it appeared that the comm system was down as well), Meylor would have to do his best to treat the patient here. With nothing more than a medkit and whatever else he could make use of on a wounded Bridge.
He tried not to think about the grotesque burns on his patient's body, or her anguished cries as he went about applying a sedative to ease her pain. He continued with treatment by using a protoplaser to promote tissue healing, and was soon joined by Commander Fox who asked if anything was needed. Meylor shook his head and reported the patient's condition, which was beginning to worsen. Fox promised to find a way to contact, or clear the way to, Sickbay.
<some time later, after the simulation>
Meylor plodded out of the Holodeck and into the corridor alongside everyone else, exhausted from the day's drill and still rather shaken by the harrowing experience of treating seriously wounded patients. He resolved to head straight for bed, bypassing a meal for now. Even though he suspected nourishment would be advisable at this point, he couldn't eat after seeing those burns. A sleep aid and several hours rest sounded like the perfect remedy...Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by L'Ola Kanz on Jan 19, 2007, 2:24
Fox entered Science Lab 1 to get an update on how the departemnt had been running in his absence. He saw Ensign Collins walking back and forth collecting samples and chemicals for the tests that Chief Tanner was carrying out. One of the new recruits was sat watching silently, obviously in awe of the situation.
"Where is Lieutenant Carter?" Fox asked. Someone more qualified should be overseeing the training.
Jamie stopped walking and looked over, trying to hide the grin on his face. "Sickbay, Sir"
"And where is Lieutenant Amasova?"
"Sickbay, Sir"
Ed chuckled at the look on Fox's face, "You're such a helpful source of information, aren't you Jamie. Sir, Jason's only gone to support Katia..."
Nurse Green tried not to laugh at Jason pacing up and down sickbay. "Can I get you something, Lieutenant? Some hot chocolate maybe? Herbal tea?" *Mild sedative?* she added silently.
"No thanks I'm fine."
Again she supressed a giggle, "You can sit down if you want..."
"No thanks, I'm fine"
Doctor Caldwell walked through from the side room. "Okay, Jason, you can come through now. We're all set." He'd wanted to keep the area free of nerves while he checked that the month early wouldn't give any complications.
Katia looked fairly peaceful, but then given she was normally relaxed and she'd been given a little medication this wasn't much of a surprise. "Hey" she greeted Jason happily.
"Hey! You okay?"
She nodded, "Sure, at least I know what's gonna happen this time round..."
"Welcome to the brig, lady and gentlemen." L'Ola sat on top of a console, legs swinging back and forth, as she started the security drill. "The first of the 3 mini security scenarios you must complete starts here. As you can see, Ensign Zenk here has been knocked out on duty."
The Ensign fell back compliantly, causing a few giggles from around the room. L'Ola continued, "Two of our most notorious prisoners have escaped." Yet more giggles as she handed out PADDs given descriptions of Emily and Natasha, two officers-turned-criminals for the day.
"Your challenge, whether you choose to accept it or not, is to recapture the escapees without alarming the civilian population. And remember, these are very resourceful criminals. The longer you leave it, the more technology they can acquire.
Zenk tapped a button and a chime sounded. The door of the next room could be heard to open. "They've now been let loose into the ship" L'Ola explained. "Just a little headstart to make things more realistic. And you can go... NOW"
She motioned to the door and tried not to laugh at her colleagues, who rushed out before grinding to a halt in sync right outside when they realised no one had thought of how to start looking...Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Nack on Jan 20, 2007, 8:46
Nack sat at his desk, replaying the logs of the medical drill aboard the holideck. "How could I have failed my own training?"
=/\= Lights =/\= was called from the other room, and the lights in the sickbay, as well as the office, came to full intensity.
"Who's there?" Nack shouted.
Startled, Alice came around the corner. "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realize you were still here. Did you even go back to your quarters last night? You are in the same place as I left you!"
"I couldn't sleep. I've been going over some files."
Alice yanked the padd out of Nack's hand. "Are you still going over this? You know that the results were not correct. You forgot when you programmed the simulation to have the computer ignore your responses. You weren't being tested, the rest of the crew were."
"Yeah... but I thought I had accounted for that. Apparently not, and now the rest of the crew thinks I'm a failure."
A voice came over the Ferengi's com-badge. =/\= Doctor Nack, please report to my quarters. =/\=
Alice puckered her face, giving a look of pain due to the incoming communique. "Perhaps it did not sit well?"
"I thought she was ok with this? She was the one trying to talk me down from being upset back in the holid--- I don't know wh-- eh! I'm just going to go down there and find out what it is she wants."
Alice patted Nack on the top of his head, as if he was a small child, or perhaps a pet canine. It showed her sympathy, and Nack felt like he needed all the sympathy he could get.
Grooming himself the best he could while walking, Nack arrived at Sonak's quarters. Through the door he could hear the children inside, playing before their bedtime. He chimed the door.
The door opened, and a cheerful Jatan greeted Nack, whose fear turned to curiosity.
"Let me get Son...er.. the Commodore," Jatan winked at his mistake with the formalities.
Sonak came out of a back room, holding Miriya. It had only been a few weeks since her birth, but she was growing rather quickly. Her last checkup, right before the Drills began, had been a positive one.
"Perhaps this will boost your confidence a little," she said softly, "you have been approved as acting first officer aboard the USS Victory. You are to transfer there at your earliest convenience."
Nack took a second to let the words sink in. Surely there was a mistake somewhere. Perhaps the padd said "Nick" and not "Nack". Maybe the Vesuvius's subspace transceiver was disrupted in the gravitation flux on the last mission? Nack was filled with so many emotions, all he could do was hug an astonished Sonak. Jatan laughed at the site, due to the odd height difference.
"I had put in for advanced training, but I never expected this. Apparently Command really does appreciate me, aside from my shortcomings." Nack intended no pun.
Perhaps Alice was right. Maybe he was too tough on himself.
"I... I guess I will go pack." The reality of the position had sunk in, and now the new reality of leaving his sickbay, and new friends, on the Vesuvius hit.
"I am sure going to miss it here," the Doctor said. Trying to sidestep the emotions to follow, Nack tickled underneath Miriya's chin, causing her to giggle.
"I guess I should go, I need to pack! I'll let the USS Victory know that I will take the next available shuttle to their position..."
There was so much to do, Nack couldn't think straight. "I'll have to figure out where their position is, I suppose." Nack left the room. As he went down the hall, Sonak and Jatan could hear him continue to talk aloud of all the things he needed to do to prepare, his voice getting quieter each step.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commodore Sonak Reckus on Jan 20, 2007, 21:15
Sonak and Jatan watched the obviously happy and confused doctor leave. "He'll do just fine," Jatan ensured his wife, "don't you worry about him dear. He'll land on his two feet."
"And possibly trip over them," Sonak chuckled in response, "and then keep apologizing for doing it at that. But yes he will do fine. You know I actually remember the time Captain Cir'Kem was but a mere acting ensign in our security department. Do you remember her?"
Jatan nodded. "The quiet girl with the sharp eyes," he remembered, "she hated much noise, and preferred the quiet above all else."
next morning Sonak watched the security officer drop to the ground, pretending he'd been hit on the head. As her fellow crew scattered to chase the 'criminals', Sonak leaned down to check on the fallen officer first. "Sonak to sickbay, one crewmember to transport to sickbay. Possible head injury." The surprised crewmember disappeared before her eyes and she rose back to her feet, her eyes grossing gaze with L'Ola.
As commanding officer, as well as medical doctor her first priority were the crew and their safety. She would not leave without seeing to injured crew first. When she was back on her feet, she noticed it was only her and L'Ola left in the brig area. Quietly, she pulled out a tricorder and with a look of sheer distaste set her phaser on light stun. She hated weapons and she had no qualms about showing that distaste.
So their criminals were cunning, but she knew her ship like no other, except maybe her first officer and possibly her chief engineer. Setting her tricorder, she homed in on the biosignatures of the two fleeing officers, then she calmly walked out of the brig area without looking back. Outside, she saw Logan and Nick waiting for her. "I am tracking them," she commented, "but we have to find a way to stop them without alerting the families aboard this ship that something is amiss. It would result in a wide-spread fear and chaos. I would suggest we lure them somewhere, a sort of challenge to take us out and then we spring a trap on them. What do you think?"Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Nack on Jan 22, 2007, 5:45
"You have accomplished a lot in your short time here Doctor."
Nack smiled. Alice was definitely going to be missed. She always was the positive one. She and Jatan both joined Nack in his quarters as he packed.
"I don't think I've been that effective. I mean..."
Jatan cut Nack short.
"Let's see... you treated everyone for injuries when we were blown into the Beta Quadrant, you delivered my child, under extraordinary circumstances." Jatan had a decent sized list. Alice chimed in again.
"Don't forget about socializing with the crew. You probably don't remember the going away party for Lucy, or the party for the Reckus baby."
"Oh, I remember that." Nack's stomach felt queasy at the thought of the drunken state he was in that evening. "That is specifically why I requested there to be NO going away party. I am done with parties." Nack cracked a smile. The truth was, he was not keen on being the center of attention.
The computer console flashed an indication, letting him know that his shuttle for Starbase Assailant was ready.
"I guess this means goodbye." The cliche remark echoed in the quietness of the room. Nack gave Jatan a firm handshake, and Alice a big hug. He would miss them both.
"I already said goodbye to the Commodore, and to the rest of the crew. So - I guess I'm off."
Nack walked off through the docking bay doors. He turned to wave goodbye to Alice, but she was already reporting for the next drill scenario.
"Goodbye" Nack said aloud, symbolically. It was directed toward nobody. He turned and headed toward the dock where his shuttle was waiting for him.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Fox on Jan 22, 2007, 10:59
Fox entered Science Lab 1 to get an update on how the departemnt had been running in his absence.
Fox was still in Science Lab 1 when he got called to the brig for the security drill. He quickly left and walked to the turbolift. "brig" He said and the lift started moving, making a soft humming sound. Not much later he entered the brig and looked arround. "Seems everyone is here already." he thought.
"Ah, good you joined us as well, commander" L'Ola said and started explaining what happened.
Fox rushed out after L'Ola's explanation already having an idea how to track them. He ran to Science Lab 2 and accessed the internal sensors trying the find the runaway criminals. Soon he had all the bio-signs all over the ship on his console. He figured naturally they wouldn't carry comm-badges so he tried to filter all signs with a comm-badge signal out.
Suddenly his console went blank. He walked to another console, trying to do the same, but with the same result... A blank console, only this time the Lights in the Science Lab went off too.
"Computer Lights" Fox called. "Unable to comply" the computer responded. "Why?" Fox asked. "Life support systems in Science Labs 2 are shutting down." "Who autorized that?" Fox asked. "Unknown." the computer replied again.
Immediately Fox walked to the doors. Atleast where he thought they would be, bumping into a wall first. After a little searching he found the doors, but they didn't open. Fox tried to open them manually. After minutes of pulling he could get them to slide open a little, far enough for him to get through.
Fox went through, immediately the doors closed behind him again. Some officers that walked through the corridor looked at him. No doubt they were thinking what he was doing.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Logan Byrne on Jan 23, 2007, 4:44
After dealing with the suits at StarFleet Command for 2 weeks, Logan was just glad to be back onboard the ship to oversee the repairs and see how much damage the Starbase engineers screwed up his ship. Once aboard, Byrne got hit with an order to supress criminals on the ship and keep all existance from the general populace. Grabbing a phaser from the Security locker, he joined Commander Martens and Commodore Sonak near sickbay. After hearing the reports of attacks near sickbay and the brig, he motioned the command staff to head for the forward section of the Discordia module to set up an ambush for the unknown criminals. Nodding and motioning to Martens, he activated a comm panel on the wall to locate Commander Fox. Once his location highlighted, he activated an active sonar pulse to look for biologic in the rest of the Module. Once the readings came back, Logan forwarded the readings to L'ola. With that, the Commodore split from the group to check on the 'hurt' members in Sickbay.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by LT.J.G. trey maverick on Jan 23, 2007, 6:17
Trey looked at the time and date on his chrono meter, it had already been three months since his departure from the Vesuvius to follow a lead on the so-called accident which killed his parent. He had always believed that there deaths was no accident and was hoping that his contact would have some info, proving him right. As he sat drinking what seemed to be some beverage a mysterious figure down directly behind him.
“Are you the star fleet officer looking for information on the deaths of the two scientists on Vulcan all these years ago?” cane the question from behind him. “Don’t turn around, we are… I am being watched, if you are drop your data pad o the floor for confirmation”
Trey did as the man instructed and let his data pad hit the floor. “good I don’t have much time it seems like there a making there move so I will transfer the information onto your data pad, it will take a few seconds” said the mysterious man as he scraped the pad of the floor. A few seconds later the pad hit the floor again. “I hope this helps you, I must be on my way and good luck on your search” and with these word the man had disappeared just a quickly as he had appeared. As trey leaned over to pick up his data pad of the floor a pear of feet stopped right in front of it, trey quickly grabbed his pad then looked up to see the face witch accompanied the feet.
“Are you star fleet officer lieutenant trey maverick?” came a most alluring voice. Trey looked up at the young woman.
“A lot of people have been asking me that today” he answered jokingly but the woman’s face remained cold as ice “what if I am” he then replied “then I will have to ask you to come with me” she said as she signal too two other officers, “wow we’ve just met and already you’re asking me out, but regretfully am going to have to turn you down” he said with a smile , “that was not a request lieutenant” she added as she pointed a phaser in his direction. Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Marco D'Angelo on Jan 23, 2007, 6:58
Marco tried to stop an officer aboard the Vesuvius, but it was no use. He was brushed off at every turn, and told to go back to his quarters. Perhaps he should have worn his uniform. The acting ensign figured since the Vesuvius was docked, he would board wearing informal clothing, and change later.
He wouldn't have been there had Commodore Reckus not contacted him while he was aboard Starbase Conquerer. He took the next shuttle to Bellicose, and here he was... but it was as if he wasn't expected. The Doctor was not about to get discouraged. He checked the panel for main sickbay, and took his time getting there when he found it.
Two oddly clothed figures ran past him in the opposite direction. Marco thought of asking them where he could find Commodore Sonak Reckus, but they were already down the corridor and around the corner by the time he turned around.
The 25 year old Doctor, not having much experience on starships of this caliber, shook his head and laughed to himself. "This is going to be interesting." The only starship he had been on prior was a freighter. The routine on those ships were so monotonous... this was going to be the total opposite it seems.
Arriving in the main sickbay, he found the Chief Medical Officer's office. This was going to be his, as soon as the transfer officially came through. He tossed a can of blood fleas into the waste regenerator unit; the only thing still left from the previous Chief Doctor. The desk was now clean, and waiting to be made his own. He sat down in the big chair, tapped both palms on the top of the desk repetitively, and tried to get the feel for his new assignment.Re: VES Mission: Drills! The Doctor hit his combadge.
=/\= Dr. D'Angelo to Commodore Reckus =/\=
The computer replied. =/\= Unable to comply, communications are offline. =/\=
"Well that explains why nobody has contacted me yet. I've been here almost 6 hours now! I've run out of med-kits to inventory!"
Alice smiled back. She was a younger nurse, and Marco found her very attractive. She had just started her shift, and Marco's boredom had quickly turned to enthusiasm upon sight of her.
After brushing off the Doctor's attempts to captivate her in conversation, she informed him of the current Drills being run.
"Well, I see why nobody is around... It sounds like they are all busy."
*RED ALERT SIGNAL*
The red alert signal sounded, startling Alice closer to Marco, who pretended to be startled to move himself closer to her. "What should we do?" she asked. "I think we should stay here... wait for orders." Marco replied, placing his arm around her shoulder to comfort her.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Logan Byrne on Jan 27, 2007, 4:47
Using the sensors in the Navigational Deflector array room, Bynre and Martens were able to map the course of the criminals. Tapping the Comm panel on the wall, Logan announced a 'scheduled' maintenance procedure within the aft section of the Discordia Module, hoping to flush the criminals to the forward section. This tip of the hat would also allow the civilians to stay clear of the "effected" areas. <Tag L'ola> With the forcefields pushing to the fore of the section, Commanders Byrne and Martens planed their little surprise ambush.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commodore Sonak Reckus on Jan 27, 2007, 21:15
While Martens and Byrne took her suggestion into action, Sonak headed towards sickbay to check up on the injured crewman. To her utter surprise, she was told the crewman in question had been 'injured' more seriously than she had indicated and that he had died on the surgery table. The Vulcan commodore couldn't believe what she was hearing and turned around to leave sickbay, making a mental note to speak to L'Ola about this after her scenario had finished.
However when she turned she collided hard with a young human male wearing a teal uniform and an acting ensign's pip. Each stumbled back, fighting to keep their balance. "My fault," Sonak murmured as she regained some composure. "Who are you and what are you doing in my sickbay?" She hadn't received any news of getting new crewmembers while they were awaiting Starfleet investigations.
(D'Angelo)
"Ah, in that case welcome aboard. And come with me. We are engaged in drills. Miss Alicia here can take charge of sickbay, I need you to come with me to chase a few escaped and very dangerous criminals." While they ran out of sickbay, Sonak briefed the new CMO on the scenario. "Reckus to Martens and Byrne, what is your status?" Then she paged the rest of the senior staff to get their updates.

Trey once again found him self steering down the barrel of a phaser pistol, “oh I guess if u put that way, okay I will do as you ask we don’t want to get any civilians involved” trey retorts
“It’s good that you care about there safety but I don’t just shut up and move” the young woman answered
“Wow you’re one cold stale fish” he added as she nudged him in the back to start walking. “So where are we headed?” he asked
“I thought asked you to keep your mouth shut” the woman said sounding irritated
“NO not really it was more of a… command than a question… so…”
“So what”
“Where are we headed?”
“It does not concern you”
“I beg to differ, I mean you kidnap me at gunpoint for no obvious reason THAT I can see so yeah I think thins kindda does fall in the category of concerning me”
“We’re here, now shut up or I will shoot you and watch you die painfully how does that sound” she said as they walked in a very expensively furnished apartment.
“Wow, that’s one snazzy pad you guys got here” trey said as he admired the room
“Seat and keep your mouth shut or that big guy in the corner will break a few of your bones, and you don’t want that do we” she said with a smile on her face. It seemed like hours had passed before a middle aged man dressed in a Starfleet officer’s uniform “ah so you’re terry maverick’s son, trey right, you have something that belongs to me and I would like it back”.
“What on earth are you talking bout”
“Look boy we can do this the easy or the hard way. And don’t be stupid like your father just give what I ask for and we can part ways”
“I don’t even know what you’re looking for.”
“Don’t play stupid with me boy” “You know you need to drink less coffee” “I guess it’s the hard way, I would have hoped that you would have been a lot more accommodating but I can see you are your father’s son, well have it your way” and with these word the officer snapped his finger, a very large Orion male made his way to where trey was seated, he picked him and placed trey in a bear hug and squeezed, a sharp intense pain impacted his lower back and spine. Trey yelled in pain.
The officer signalled for the Orion to let him go. “So are you ready to talk?” he asked
“well if I knew what you were talking about maybe I would have some thing to say to you, hey big guy good job on my lower back, I was having some problems with it what ever you did seemed to have fixed it” added trey. The office snapped his fingers for a second time and once again trey found him self in an Orion bear hug, this time a more intense one so intense he passed out from the pain Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by LT.J.G. trey maverick on Jan 28, 2007, 6:10
After a few hours trey awoke to find him self hang from the ceiling of a holding cell. “I see you’re awake, ready to continue from where we left off” the officer asked. “Are these chains really necessary?” trey asked
“I have done a little back ground check on you and I found out that you are a very resourceful guy so am not taking any chanceries with you, star fleet may not know about you modifications and enhancements but I know of them and I know what you are capable of, now tell me what I what I want to hear.”
“No you’re going to have to drag it out of my dead body” answered trey
“As you wish you foolish boy” and with these words came a surge of electricity through trey’s body. “Those currents you’re feeling don’t only give you extreme pain but also stops these little nanotechs in your system from helping you rejuvenate.” Trey tried his best no to yell out tin pain but his hard work was all in vane. After five minuets of pain the office stopped then walked out of the cell leaving the door open. Trey struggled to get him self unhooked but was unable to do so the electric shock had taken a lot out of him and it would be hours before the nanotech in his body would be back online. As he tried to gather his strength he heard the sound of phaser fire.
“what in blazies is going on out there he thought to him self. The fighting seem to be getting closer and he wasn’t any closer to getting him self lose from the chains. Seconds later the young woman who had kidnapped him entered the cell. “here take this, it’s a pass key it will allow you to use the shuttle in hanger bay 5” she said to him as she released him from his shackles.
“What’s going on?” trey asked
“Nothing just get out of here now, I will escort you through the back from there it’s all you and try not to get caught or killed” she said and with these words trey was off to find this shuttle bay 5 she spoke about. He finally made it to the shuttle bay; he placed the access key into the port and watched the bay doors slid open to revile Danube-class Runabouts shuttle craft. Trey hastily made his way into the craft and to its flight console, he fired up her engines and flu her out of the planet, once he made it into space he set cores for section 47 and star base STARBASE BELLICOSE Re: VES Mission: Drills! "Please can we stop running for a bit?"
Emily nodded, "Sure"
The pair of them collapsed down in the entrance to a maintenance hatch. "Why haven't we been caught yet?"
"Maybe something came up that we don't know about. Or maybe our esteemed Commander forgot to tell them something"
Natasha giggled, "Like that they had to look for us?"
"Something like that. Well it's been a while since we stopped off anywhere. Wanna head for the armoury to see if that gets their attention?"
"Sure, I have my breath back now."
The pair got back up and ran off in the appropriate direction, "Remind me to recommend fitness training for the new recruits once this is over." Emily commented.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Marco D'Angelo on Jan 29, 2007, 8:03
"Admiral Elron said you knew of my arrival... If you don't want me, I can leave." The Doctor had a playful smile, and his inflection suggested more of a good-natured jab than him seriously considering leaving. Following Commodore Reckus out the door, and leaning back to wink at Alice as he left, they made pace down the hallway.
"You walk awfully fast, m'am. What if I tell you that I believe I have seen the two you are looking for." The doctor described the two he had seen hours earlier. "Are they the ones that caused all of the wounded in sickbay?" Luckily for the Doctor, he came in when there was nothing much left to do. The doctors on staff had it covered.
Sonak received updates on the crew while she ducked behind bulkheads. D'Angelo found it very difficult to play spy, and lazily followed suit. Had a real intruder been on board, their position would have been compromised at every turn.
"I hope you don't expect me to come up with some sort of drill. I've been here for only a few hours, surely you don't think that.." the Commodore shushed him. They were in a poorly lit corridor, and someone... or a couple of someones... was coming.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Fox on Jan 29, 2007, 9:49
Then she paged the rest of the senior staff to get their updates.
Looking at the doors of the science lab, Fox tabbed his comm-bagde when Sonak paged everyone and reported that Science lab 2 had become inoperative for the time being. On the console outside he tried to get the life support system inside to work again.
Fox kept wondering how that was possible, somehow the runaways had gotten access to some of the computers system. After a while he gave up trying to get life support back. The computer had kept announcing "Access denied" with all his tries.
He turned arround and walked away from the lab "this will have to wait." he thought. He tabbed his comm-badge "Fox to Byrne. Need any assistance? My plan to track them failed."

As trey eagerly awaited his arrival back to STARBASE BELLICOSE he began to read up on the data that was given to him about his parent’s death, the more he read the more questions he seemed to have. The information also spoke of some thing called the omega directive and the effects it could have on the federation if they were to be implemented. It also mentioned some sort of ancient race and weapon, this thing about his parent’s death was becoming a lot more complicated than he would have expected. The data also had some info. On Samantha’s dad, the man who had taken him in after he left Vulcan. It sees that there meeting was no coincidence and that he had known trey’s parents as well. Things were becoming more and more confusing; none of it seemed to make much senesce to him
{What does all of this mean} he thought to himself {what were my parents working on, it seems that they were involved in a lot more that the records say} the consol flashed indicating that he was ready to drop out of warp. He keyed in a command and the star lines turned in a vast blackness that was space and on his screen was starbase bellicose, what a sight for sore eyes he thought to himself {never thought I would be so happy to see this place again}
“Shuttle Runabout requesting permission to dock”
[Shuttle runabout this is command, what is your purpose docking?]
“Command this is runabout, purpose is returning to active duty sir”
[Command to runabout state name rank]
“Lt. Junior Grade Trey Maverick”
[Welcome back lieutenant maverick, permission to dock in docking bay 12, command out]
“Thank you command, trey out”
Trey set the shuttle to follow docking bay 12’s nav. Point the leaned back into his seat and took a second look at his data pad. [Docking sequence complete] and with these word trey left the shuttle craft and made his way to the VES. He knew that he has some explaining to give to his CO. but for now avoiding her was the best solution for now. Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by L'Ola Kanz on Jan 30, 2007, 13:35
"Now we're getting somewhere" Emily commented. Their desired route had been cut off by forcefields and they were now taking an alternative route.
The pair slowed to a walk for a short time, trying to analyse the situation and decide where to go next. "Did I just hear someone talking?"
As they went round the next corner they were greeted by Commodore Sonak and an unfamiliar officer. The security officers looked at each other, trying to decide whether to make a run for it. Sonak spoke up "I should warn you, Commander Kanz has forced me to carry a phaser and has instructed me to use it if the situation requires."
"In that case I guess we surrender" Emily replied.
"Finally!" Natasha muttered, causing a slight smile to cross Emily's face.

The distaste of being forced to carry a phaser distinctly showing on her face, Sonak effortlessly and efficiently held the weapon aimed at the 'criminals'. "Doctor would you be so kind as to assist me in escorting these charming women back to the brig?"
The Vulcan commodore tapped her combadge. "Reckus to Byrne, we have the escapees. Meet us at the holding cell entrance, have Martens and Fox come with you. I am certain Commander Kanz will be somewhat pleased now."
Using her weapon, she gestured for the two women to start walking. "Doctor, your attention!" Sonak snapped as she saw the new CMO's glance waver from the task at hand. "You can gawk at them later."
"Commodore, this is Harper," the XO called over the intercom, "I've just had some interesting news that may be of your interest. Lieutenant Maverick is back aboard, thought you might wanna know when he did return."
"Yes, thank you commander. Now please excuse me, I have a job to do. Escort Maverick to quarters when he reports in and tell him I will have a word with him later. Oh and tell him he is expected to report for the science drill scenario! And he had better show up on time."
"Yes ma'am," Harper chuckled before signing off.
"Move," Sonak told the girls as the walked slowly onwards, "we do not have all day."Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Marco D'Angelo on Jan 31, 2007, 6:21
His attention was quickly snapped back into reality by the Commodore, who had noticed D'Angelo's wandering eyes.
"I was listening! We are to escort these ladies!" The Commodore hadn't accused him of anything beyond a gaze, yet he felt the compelling need to explain himself.
"I suppose I am going to have to take part in these Science Drills you were just talking about?" the Doctor said, in an unamused tone. He did not bypass the Academy and get made into an Acting Ensign just to be trained again in the area of Science. However, it would be a good way to meet some of the other crew, he supposed, so he would bite the bullet this time.
The brig wasn't as dark as he pictured. When he was posted on the freighter, they would sometimes find stow-aways. The stowaways would often get the "luxury" of completing the round-trip in a deactivated escape pod, only being fed Star Fleet field rations. After three weeks, the round trip time, they would be back where they started, happy to have the luxury of a real correctional facility. The Vesuvius's brig was a resort compared to those memories.
The Commodore motioned for the attending officer to deactivate the forcefield. The Doctor stood in the at ease position off to the side. The forcefield reactivated when the two were inside.
"Does this mean I can get back to sickbay, Commodore?" Marco said, in his usual charming tone, hoping to skirt any sense of duty until his official duties were to be exercised.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commodore Sonak Reckus on Jan 31, 2007, 11:37
"No," the Vulcan replied, "that does not mean you can return to sickbay. You will wait here with me until Commander Kanz tells us we can move on with our regular duties. Starfleet ordered us to run these drills, so we will with the efficiency in which we would usually run this ship. As this is a security drill, new crew or not, every senior staffmember is obligated to participate."
She motioned towards the cell and handed the doctor her phaser. "They escaped before. Stun them if they try so again." She turned and tapped her combadge. "Byrne, Martens, report back to the brig, we have our escapees. Fox, report back here also, our task is done."
Then she looked back at D'Angelo. "There is something you could attend to after Kanz has given us her verdict. Find out why our security officer died, when he was only struck on the head. I left him in good care in sickbay after tending to him, yet I was informed that he had died. I wish to know what of."
They looked up when Kanz walked back in, looking very pleased with herself.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by L'Ola Kanz on Feb 1, 2007, 2:35
L'Ola walked into the Brig to see all her fellow senior officers gathered, and Lieutenant Qualtrough was locked away along with Ensign Morris. "Now this is good to see. Well done guys. You'll be pleased to know the security drill is almost over."
"Almost?" Someone complained fairly quietly.
"Everyone take a break for a bit, meet me just outside holodeck 2 in two hours. I just have a short activity to round things off." She motioned towards the door to let people know they could leave when they wanted, and then walked over to the now occupied cell.
Lieutenant Qualtrough smiled, "That good enough for you, Sir?"
"Yes thank you. Both of you can miss training later, I'm sure you've done enough running for one day."
Emily looked at Natasha and tried not to laugh. "Thanks that would be great. Would you mind, umm, letting us out some time soon?"
"If you insist." L'Ola nodded to the replacement brig officer, who lowered the forcefield that was in place. She started to head off out the room but was called over by Sonak.
"Commander, I have been informed by Sickbay that Ensign Zenk has died of the injuries he experienced during the drill. Do you have any explanation for why this may have happened?"
Kanz clicked her fingers and pointed up as if a memory had been triggered, "Ah thanks for reminding me. Kanz to sickbay."
=/\= Sickbay here =/\=
"Please can you pass on a message to Ensign Zenk that the drill is now over so he is free to leave sickbay."
=/\= Of course Commander =/\=
"And, any news on Lieutenant Amasova...?"
=/\= She is now the proud mother of a healthy baby boy. =/\=
"Thanks for the update. Kanz out."

"I'm a Doctor, not a Security Officer!" D'Angelo exclaimed, but the Commodore had heard that line before and ignored him.
Sitting in sickbay with three attractive women, two of which were stuck behind a forcefield, was not such a bad thing. If only he could get Sonak to crack... he saw it earlier, when a show of pleasure came upon her face after capturing the two fake-criminals. Maybe he could coax another out of her. With all of his complaining, he definitely was not going to coax anything pleasant out of his Commanding Officer, so he changed tactics.
Holding the phaser with a more firm grip, he made small conversation. "I noticed there was a Jatan Reckus on the crew manifest in sickbay... is that your son?... husband?" As he spoke to the Commodore, his eyes kept flipping back toward the two in the holding cell. He was convinced he had to make sure they weren't escaping.
L'ola Kanz appeared, eventually, dismissing the Doctor as if he was just another transporter room tech, and told him to lower the shields. Doctor D'Angelo cleared his throat in the direction of Sonak at the clear oversight, but his unvoiced concern went unnoticed. He lowered the force field anyway.
"A security officer died!" D'Angelo exclaimed, overhearing the conversation the two officers were having. "What kind of drill was this? And how come nobody told me! I am the Chief Doctor around here, am I not?"
D'Angelo's rage was contained at the moment, but he was not about to allow their lack of communication with him to go on as precedent.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Logan Byrne on Feb 1, 2007, 23:30
After assisting Commanders Martens and Fox escort the 'criminals' to the brig, Logan kept track of the forcefields in the Medical section. Once they were delivered, Byrne reinstated command staff access to forcefield control and headed for Engineering to rest. Sitting at his desk, he brushed thru the repairs reported from the Starbase engineering staff. Having to spend two weeks at Starfleet Command, this was a welcome site. Pulling up the records from the gravitational field repairs, he found the data missing from the sabatoge incident and the time frame in which he fired at Commander Martens with the phaser on the Bridge. "Logical", he said out loud. Turning her head, the ensign at the MSD board looked as if she had done something right. Smirking, he just shook his head. Tapping his comm-badge, "Byrne to Commander Fox, have we gotten the new shuttle up and running yet? I was thinking of showing her off for the Admiral. Byrne out." <Tag Fox> Heading for his quarters, he went for a long awaited nap. He could check on the shuttle in the morning.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Fox on Feb 2, 2007, 9:59
"Byrne to Commander Fox, have we gotten the new shuttle up and running yet? I was thinking of showing her off for the Admiral. Byrne out."
Fox tabbed his comm-badge as he walked through the corridors back to the labs again. "It should be in shuttle bay 3, Commander" After a little while he arrived at the inoperative science lab. "I must get in again." he thought, the pads on which he had prepaired his drill were in there.
He tabbed some buttons on the panel next to the door. Luckily some repairs had been done already and life support was working again. The doors slid open. He walked into a dark room. "Guess lights dont work yet." he thought and walked in carefully not wanting to bump into anything.
"The pads should be on the table next to the mass spectrometer." he thought as he carefully went on. Finally he reached the table and picked up some of the pads on it. Suddenly a soft "bang" could be heard, something had fallen. Fox counted the pads and noticed one was still missing.
Fox got on his knees crawling under the table to look for the missing pad. It took him a while to find it in the dark and when he finally got it he left the lab as quickly as he could.
He read over his pads as he walked through the corridors again heading toward the holodecks to prepair the science drill.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by L'Ola Kanz on Feb 2, 2007, 23:12
"Thanks for your help setting up" L'Ola smiled and entered the commands to alter the temperature settings on the holodeck slightly.
"No probs" Lieutenant Keggin replied. He'd been enjoying himself far too much to make it seem like work. As he left the room he passed a few of the Senior Officers who were heading over there right on time. He would have loved to see the looks on their faces when they got in there.
"Welcome to Holodeck 2 and your wrap up scenario for the security drill. Hopefully your experience with the break out showed you the importance of communication and teamwork in security work. And also how sometimes you just have to use a little force.
"We'll be bringing this together here, as well as general fitness training which the guys have to do later. Now as you can see" She clicked her fingers and the lights brightened to show a complex course in the room, "I've arranged for an obstacle course for everyone to join. It's easier than it looks. You just need to go over that bit, then..."
She described the course of events for that they would have to follow. "You'll each have to go through it once, meanwhile everyone else will be giving you support from the sidelines. To make things difficult I have a couple of guys around who are going to shoot you as you go round the course. Everyone watching should keep an eye out for the snipers, and take them out if possible before they can do damage."
She threw a series of pistols at her fellow department heads before squirting her own up in the air, "This could get very very wet..."Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commodore Sonak Reckus on Feb 2, 2007, 23:22
Sonak looked on as the first male senior staff member took on the course. "It seems you do not expect me to take this course," she commented casually as she cast L'Ola a devious smile. Upon the CTSO's raised eyebrow, she raised one of her own. "You did say that the guys had to take this course. You never mentioned any women having to take this course."
Just then a security officer thrust a watergun into her hands. "Just shoot at the snipers," the man scowled, "and no excuses...ma'am." Looking up at the junior security officer, she raised a questioning eyebrow at him.
"Really?"
"Yes ma'am, really."
"Very well." She raised the watergun and pressed the trigger, drenching the security officer in question. "I claim you to be a sniper caught in the act," she commented, before turning to L'Ola. "You did say guys," she repeated with a smile, "plus I am not in any shape to take such an acrobatic course. Not yet."Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by LT.J.G. trey maverick on Feb 3, 2007, 23:03
As trey left the hatch he was greeted by an officer call Harper “welcome back lieutenant hope you trip was eventful” he said. Trey ran his hand along his browsed rib and smiled
“Indeed it was and am looking for some quite time in my quarters to try and forget all about it” answered trey
“Sorry lieutenant that’s not going to happen any time soon.”
“What do you mean?” asked trey
“Well Starfleet has asked that section drills be held on bard all active ship and crew in order to promote team work.”
“That’s all?”
“Yes, why do you ask?”
“oh no particular reason, it I just thought that sonak would be a bit ticked but I guess I was wrong, well thanks for the info and see you latter dude” said trey as he walked away
Trey made his way to his quarters, there he took a well needed shower. He then got dressed and looked at him self in the mirror, the three months defiantly showed. His hair had grown a considerable length, shoulder length to be exact from the short neat crew cut he used to have. “Well there nothing I can do about that now” he said as he walked out his door “time fore a lil reunion”. Trey then made his way to holodeck 2. The door slid open and he found him self looking at a very strange obstacle cores { wow} he thought to him self { this look like it came right out of l’ola head} as trey looked around he notice commodore sonak steering at him as if to say get your butt over here and explain why you went awol
Sonak's expression turned grim when she saw her SMO approach. Not only had he shirked his duties and failed to attend the previous drill, but he had been absent without leave for several weeks. While she was glad to see he was all right, she was not too happy to see him in general. "You have a lot of explaining to do Mister Maverick," she snapped at him, then motioned at the hindernis course. "But first you are to finish that course, and you had better not fail it and you had better set the record time without cheating." Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Marco D'Angelo on Feb 5, 2007, 5:57
D'Angelo wasn't really up for the holodeck. While athletic, he did not feel the need to prove it. Had he only been in his hoverball prime, everyone would be impressed, he thought to himself.
"I'm confused, did you say guys are supposed to go, or girls?" The question was answered by a blast to the face with water from the Commodore. With a single call to the holodeck computer, Marco was wearing a dry set of clothes again.
"Very funny," he said, unamused. "So where do I begin?"
OOC: I am genuinely confused what I'm supposed to be doing, and was hoping someone was going to tag me somewhere in the last couple of days. Are guys supposed to be going, or girls? Feel free to manipulate Marco's character--within reason.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Fox on Feb 5, 2007, 9:56
"Great just what i need." Fox thought when he was called back to holodeck 2 for L'Ola's little obstacle course. He was almost done in holodeck 3 for a part of his simulation. He looked at one of his science officers "Well you finish it from here." he said "I have to go again." the officer nodded. In a minute he stood in holodeck 2 again. Participating in L'Ola's course. <OOC: Taking it forward a little to my scenario>
After the course he informed everyone that his drill tomorrow would start on the bridge at 0700. As everyone walked off Fox himself went back to holodeck 3 to see how the simulation there was coming. He was amazed when he entered, and complimented the science officers on their great work. "This should be fun." He thought and left again. He then headed to the bridge to prepair the rest of his drill. There he worked all night, programming his scenario into the computer.
At 0630 the first officers came walking in. "Goodmorning. Are you up for it?" he said smiling, feeling only a little bit tired from his night time work. <tag anyone?>Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by LT.J.G. trey maverick on Feb 6, 2007, 6:07
Trey could feel all eyes on him as he took his first steeps onto the course, he was then handed a water pistol by one of L’ola’s security staff members. Before starting off on his water quest he had quick look around, L’ola had snipers strategically placed and well hidden {well this should be fun} trey thought to him self as he took a few steeps out of the starting blocks. Sonak had ask him to finish the course with out cheating and to set a new cores record, he assumed she meant no use of his unsanctioned enhancements. The course was indeed a tricky one with unexpected traps, twist and turns. Trey made it to the end of the cores with out getting hit by any of Lola’s snipers, as he was about to take his last steeps of the course he was hit with a blast of water from Lola her self. Trey walked off wet but happy the course was indeed fun and made for a great workout.
After Lola’s little test was over Fox announced that his little scenario would be stating at 0700 the next day and every one was to meet on the bridge. Trey quickly made his way out of the holodeck trying his best to stay out of commodore sonaks crosshairs. As he made his way into his quarters the fact that he had not eaten in a while was beginning to sink in. he headed to the replicater and asked for a large double cheese pepperoni pizza. Some moments later he found himself looking down a the last slice, and with it the realization that he could eat no more {that’s it, am spent, time to hit the sack got an early day tomorrow} he fought to himself, but before he could even get off his chair he had already fallen asleep. off: as L'Ola is not feeling well, I'm finishing her drill for her so we move on to Fox. Please further respond only to Fox' drill.

Sonak watched with mild bemusement as the male portion of the senior staff showed themselves off on the obstacle course L'Ola had set up. Despite L'Ola's arguments, Sonak refused to take the course, she was still not back to her usual health and she didn't need anything like physical exertion to compromise it.
She watched as the new CMO seemed uncertain of what to do, then watched L'Ola walk up to him and describe to him in no uncertain terms what he needed to do. Seeing his face fall in disappointment, she smiled ever so slightly; only those that knew her well would've noticed the smile. One by one, they finished the track.
Sonak turned to L'Ola. "I believe this concludes your scenario?"
The chief of security nodded as she gathered up her PADD with notes. "Very well. I want your report on my desk at 0600 tomorrow morning. And do not be late for Fox' scenario."
~next morning~
Sonak walked into the sciencelab, feeling a little more refreshed after having gone to bed fairly early on the previous night. "Ready?" she asked her former commanding officer, first officer and navigator. Fox had been around forever, and had held just about every position on the ship by now. "Do not be concerned," she tried to encourage him, "you have been a captain, you can certainly do this. I do hope you have something exciting for us."

*chirp* =/\= Oh-six-hundred-hours =/\= *chirp*
Marco tossed in his bed, putting the pillow over his head, not ready to start the day. "ggggahhhhhawwwnn..." his passive growl turned into a yawn midway through. "What kind of person schedules something this early!"
*chirp* =/\= Oh-six-hundred-and-two =/\= *chirp*
Marco threw his pillow at the console on the wall, where it slid down to the floor. "A two minute snooze?! Computer, deactivate the snooze!" a chirp was heard, and the lights came to full intensity, as if they had an interest in keeping Marco awake.
After getting ready, taking his time in the sonic shower, he lazily made his way to the bridge, where he assumed this training was going to be done. He was one of the last people to arrive, it seemed, as the room was almost full. He singled out L'ola, of whom he hadn't formally met yet, but had made a note to do so earlier. Nonchalantly, he made his way over to her, stretching his neck in multiple directions around the room above the crowd, pretending to be looking for someone. Backing up into her purposefully, he apologized.
"Oh - sorry!," he let out his hand, warmly. "I am Doctor D'Angelo, but you can call me Marco."
<L'ola>
Soon, Commander Fox started was barking out orders -- way too loudly for oh-six-sevenhundred hours, the Doctor thought -- and the training began.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Fox on Feb 7, 2007, 14:08

(OOC: Thought i mentioned the bridge )
Fox smiled at Sonak as she tried to encourage him. "I hope everyone enjoys it." he answered. He looked around as the rest of the officers walked in.
He stood in front of the main screen, next to one of the consoles. Bending a little over one he touched one of the buttons. Immediately the main screen went black, a second later the image of a small solar system appeared.
Fox started to explain what was showed on the main screen. "Starfleet has recently discovered this system." He explained "It consists of this protostar, with 2 class K planets and a class F planet." With that he pointed at them on the screen.
"We want to know i which state of development this class F planet is. Unfortunately we can't scan the planet from up here due to the magnestascopic interference of the protostar. So we'll have to do research on the planets surface."
"I need 3 vollunteers for that away team. Spacesuits are ready in transporter room 3." he said smiling "The others will join me in the astrometrics lab." looking around the group to see if someone vollunteered already. "The protostar seems to be in a very advanced stage of development. We might witness the birth of a star here."
(tag anyone)Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by L'Ola Kanz on Feb 8, 2007, 21:11
The security drill had gone better than expected, she had to admit it. L'Ola hadn't started off with very high hopes. In general, people tended to have the view that security officers caused as much violence as they prevented. No one wants to see the law enforcement around until something goes wrong. At which point the security officers get blamed for not having been there.
So from such an unglamorous starting point they'd got quite a long way. The activities chosen had been very deliberate. Most people would be able to see the point of recapturing escaped prisoners, and it combined a lot of the skills she got her officers to practise every day. It had also provided an opportunity for one of her senior security officers to get to know a new recruit, which would help with teamwork at a later date.
Writing up reports had never been one of L'Ola's strong points. But for some reason she wanted this to be a good report. Something had made her want to put that little bit extra effort in lately. There wasn't any rational explanation for the change. It wasn't as though she wanted a good reference to change jobs; there was no way she wanted to leave the Vesuvius and it was common knowledge that she had no desire to be made First Officer again.
Whatever the reason, it had motivated her to start the report as soon as she had returned to her (surprisingly tidy) quarters once the drill was finished. Well, almost as soon as she got back. There was a slight pause as she checked the latest security reports from earth. Central security had granted her access to the classified trace file on Lucy, and the reports that her sort-of daughter was missing hadn't been that comforting. However she was determined to keep the information from the rest of the crew, she really didn't want their sympathy.
"Computer, begin Security Drills report. Written by Commander L'Ola Kanz.
"Upon completion of the security drill I am pleased to report overall success as far as completion of tasks are concerned. The Brig scenario was completed in an acceptable time considering it was the first attempt by the group. At first I was concerned with the unwillingness of some team members to participate, but eventually everyone contributed.
"I was particularly impressed to see that all participants carried weapons upon request. Commodore Reckus especially should be congratulated for this, as I am aware that she dislikes weapons.
"It was nice to see the team members using skills from their own areas of expertise to help them complete the task at hand, especially with internal sensors and forcefields. My only concerns with the exercise were speed and efficiency, which would improve with practise if required."
She paused for a while to gather her thoughts together once more. "The concluding exercise was designed to give team members an insight into security training, whilst maintaining a casual environment. I was a little disappointed in the unwillingness of participants to complete the obstacle course as it was laid out, and would recommend a similar activity be scheduled for a later date to analyse crew fitness in an enjoyable way.
"I have enclosed all data recorded during the event. End of report."
L'Ola downloaded the report onto a PADD and placed it on her desk, ready to take to the Commodore first thing in the morning. Then she curled up with a mug of hot chocolate and a brand new novel that had been released the day before (Lucy had recommended it to her a few months back). It was nice to unwind at the end of a very satisfactory day's work.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Marco D'Angelo on Feb 9, 2007, 9:34
Apparently, Commander Fox was becoming desperate for volunteers. Marco found this out when, as he was talking to L'ola, he brushed his hand through his hair, and it was misconstrued as self enrollment. Doctor D'Angelo, still trying to be suave, shrugged it off.
"How hard can it be?" he said in a bragging tone to L'ola. "You wouldn't want to join this mission? Otherwise I might get stuck with one of them." the doctor pointed at a group of crew mates, nothing about them stood out. He winked as he said it, showing he was just joking around.
"Well - I'll be in transporter room three. Maybe I'll see you there?!" D'Angelo held his composure until he left the bridge. In the turbolift, he let his head fall toward the wall, giving it a slight bang. He had never been formally on an away mission before. While this was going to be good practice, and hence a drill, his only goal was going to be to save himself from embarrassment- starfleet regulations or not.
Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commodore Sonak Reckus on Feb 9, 2007, 12:22
Sonak nodded towards L'Ola. "You are volunteering commander," she told the surprised security chief. Her eyes then locked with Fox's. "As am I. I am curious to see how you will manage this, since I believe you have forgotten we are still locked in spacedock here at Bellicose."
She was indeed curious and half expected that beaming out was just a ruse. However, after putting on the spacesuit the three of them were actually transported somewhere. Their surroundings were dry and barren, though surprisingly there was a large frozen lake to their left and patches of what seemed snow covering small bright green bushes. "Odd combination," the Vulcan commented as she took out her tricorder, "a bush in full bloom but covered by snow."
Carefully she trailed towards the glinstering ice that covered the lake, finding that it wasn't plain water that was frozen. "The water is radioactive," she called back to her two companions, "but not at dangerous levels. I am going to take a sample to take back to the ship."
While she assumed they were on a holodeck, Sonak still couldn't be certain. For all she knew Fox really had transported them somewhere. She approached the lake's edge and knelt down to open her science kit. "Are you two finding anything of interest?" She knew the rest of the senior staff would be observing them in the astrometrics laboratory, analysing any data they were sending back to them.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by L'Ola Kanz on Feb 9, 2007, 14:05
Commander Kanz stood at the tactical console on the Bridge, taking the opportunity to go through ship status reports with Lieutenant Keggin. "Rich, while I'm on the next drill, could you get the forward phasers checked over with Engineering? I'm not convinced that they were lined up right."
"We could always pick a target and test them" Richard grinned, "I'm sure the Starbase wouldn't mind being blown up if it helped us find out."
"I'll make a note to ask for permission" she laughed and carried on flicking through the read outs.
One of the doors to the Bridge opened and initially L'Ola didn't look up, this changed, however, when she felt someone walk into her. "Watch out!"
"Oh - sorry!," he held out his hand as if expecting her to shake it. "I am Doctor D'Angelo, but you can call me Marco."
*Should probably get to know him now, might make things easier later.* She held out her own hand and shook his, "Commander L'Ola Kanz, but then you probably already knew that from the security drills. I answer to most names."
Marco looked a little disbelieving at this, "I can't imagine you'd get called many questionable things though..."
"Seriously, my ex-adoptive sister calls me Gagh-Brains. If I'll answer to that I'll answer to almost anything." "Ex-adopti.." "Don't ask." The smile on her face got a little bigger. This guy didn't seem too bad, and she figured she'd probably be safe the next time she knocked herself out.
"I believe we have a science drill next?" Marco stated and questioned the fact at the same time.
L'Ola nodded, "Yep, should be interesting. I used to be the Chief Science Officer on here so I still know a few of the people down there fairly well."
"I don't suppose they have told you what we will have to do...?"
"Unfortunately my main source is too hyped that his girlfriend just had a son..." L'Ola stopped talking and looked around the Bridge, realising that Fox was trying to find participants. She watched, not entirely surprised, as the Doctor left the Bridge to start the away team.
Sonak looked over in her direction, "You are volunteering commander, as am I."
That wasn't entirely unexpected either. Not that she minded at all, in fact it would be an interesting experience. And in all honesty, she had to admit that the temptation to catch up on gossip in the labs would have been too much.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Fox on Feb 9, 2007, 14:58

Fox smiled "I know we're docked here." he answered as the Sonak and L'Ola walked to the turbolift to head to the transporter room.
"Lets go to astrometrics" he announced after Sonak and L'Ola were off and walked to the turbolift. Not much later they all entered astrometrics. He appointed a station to Logan. "Keep an eye on that protostar." he said and led Nick and the rest to other stations to process the data the team below on the surface would be taking.Re: VES Mission: Drills! "A lake of deuterium-oxide. Interesting." Marco said, in his most astute voice possible. He turned to L'ola, and in a voice that was inaudible to the Commodore, said, "I will bet you any money this is the holodeck. There isn't a planet like this anywhere near the starbase."
The Commodore asked if the two officers were finding anything of interest. Marco took a look at L'ola, then thought better of the comment he was about to make.
"I haven't found anything yet. I was busy trying to find evidence that this was the holodeck. I guess it would help a lot if we knew what we are doing here."
As a Doctor, Marco felt useless. If this was the holodeck, safety controls would most likely render him useless. He was about to mention this to the group, when he heard a splash. He turned around, and saw that Commodore Reckus had just fallen through the heavy-ice into the radioactive water.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commodore Sonak Reckus on Feb 11, 2007, 21:39
The Vulcan glanced sharply at her CMO. "You are to assume these circumstances are real doctor," she quipped as she gingerly walked onto the ice to collect further samples. "And our mission right now is to examine the effects of the protostar on this planet. So far, we seem to find evidence of radioactive activity, and we need to establish how this affects the planet."
She crouched down to scrape at the ice with one of her tools and deposit the sample in the destined container. The Vulcan heard the ice crack under her feet, but she was used to hearing that. The thing that did surprise her was that it didn't seem to be cold, unless her suit was adapting the temperature inside it for Vulcan comforts.
Inching another few centimeters forward, she tossed the container back at L'Ola, who deftly caught it and stored it away. "L'Ola, perhaps you could have a look at the vegetation while the good doctor has a look at the soil? Tricorder readings show something interesting here on this lake, which suggests that the protostar is responsible for the high levels of radiation."
The cracking got a little louder and a second later, Sonak felt the ice break away under her feet. She cried out in surprise as she splashed into the radioactive water and disappeared under the thick ice-sheet. Her heavy suit dragged her down, the pressure of the water crushing the fabric against her. The ice had torn the fabric and she felt ice-cold water seeping in. Terror seized her as she had nowhere to go but down.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by LT.J.G. trey maverick on Feb 12, 2007, 9:20

The turbolift door slid open and trey walked onto the bridge, it seemed like he was not the only one looking forward to fox’s scenario, most of the senior staff were already on the bridge and it didn’t take long for rest to show up. Now that every one was present and accounted for fox began his briefing. The image of a small solar system appeared on the main screen
Fox: "Starfleet has recently discovered this system it consists of this protostar, with 2 class K planets and a class F planet, we want to know in which state of development this class F planet is. Unfortunately we can't scan the planet from up here due to the magnestascopic interference of the protostar. So we'll have to do research on the planets surface. I need 3 volunteers for that away team. Spacesuits are ready in transporter room 3. The others will join me in the astrometrics lab. The protostar seems to be in a very advanced stage of development. We might witness the birth of a star here."
Before trey could even think of volunteering sonak had put her self up for the away mission she had also volunteered Lola as well and that was followed the new doctor. {I guess am heading down to astrometrics} he thought to him self. As he watched the three volunteers walk off the bridge and make there way to the transporter room he could not help but feel a little disappointed that he could not one of the three volunteers going down on the planets surface. He made his way to astrometrics and headed to one of the consoles. With a few key stokes an image of the f class planet appeared on the screen in front of him. As he began scan the planet one thing became very apparent, the star was bombarding the planet with an unhealthy dose of radiation. Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Fox on Feb 12, 2007, 14:22
As he began scan the planet one thing became very apparent, the star was bombarding the planet with an unhealthy dose of radiation.
Fox walked to the station Trey was behind, seeing the radiation levels it showed. "I hope that the radiation will get less when that protostar grows into a star. Else it would be hard to colonize this planet."
He walked back to his own station, wondering how the away team was doing, because communication had been cut off by the increase of magnestascopic interference from the protostar.
He looked at Nick. "Is there any way to cut through the interference and open a comm-link with the away team?" Nick turned around on his chair. "We could launch a probe with a signal enhancer to the planets surface." Fox smiled and nodded "Good idea. Do it." Nick tabbed a few buttons at his console.
On his own console Fox also tabbed a few buttons. "There she goes." said Nick. Sensors were indeed picking up the probe. Not much a signal appeared meaning it was active. Immediately Fox tabbed his badge. Fox called Sonak, not knowing about her situation. "Fox to Sonak. Whats the status down there?"

Watching the events unfold on the holodeck from the comfort of his office, Byrne sat waiting the cues from Commander Fox to liven things up without sacrificing the repairs being done on the ship. Tapping a few buttons, he allowed the computers to play a little hazard with the communications. Just a shame that he couldn't jump at the chance to join the drill. Only problem was that he had no idea how to present his drill. Good thing he came back in time to participate in the drill with L'Ola. Although seeing the Commodore in a space suit was funny. Especially after what has happened inthe past few weeks, giving birth, saving a ship and facing a possible court-martial hearing. 'Just glad she didn't give me hell for the Martens issue', he thought. Using his prostetic arm, he ran a few equations for the upgraded warp engines. 'LaForge and Martens would be proud to see the new upgrades to the engines and seperation systems.', he beamed. After excusing himself from the Engineering Deck, he headed for the Engineering station on the Bridge to assume his temporary position as second in command.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Marco D'Angelo on Feb 13, 2007, 8:02
"Fox to Sonak. Whats the status down there?"
It was the last thing D'Angelo heard before the Commodore slipped under the ice.
He tagged his communicator, hoping this was just a holodeck simulation. "D'Angelo to Commander Fox." Adrenalin was running through his body. "Doctor D'Angelo to the USS Vesuvius, do you read me?" Radiation burns were bad enough, but this was going to be combined with hypothermia.
"L'ola - I'm going to need your help if we are to get her out of here." D'Angelo stood at the edge of the ice crack, debating on whether to jump in or not.
The ice started cracking under his feet. He had L'ola toss him his tricorder, reconfigured it to look for lifesigns. "There are two. One Vulcan, and one..." the ice gave way, and Marco slipped into the water before being able to express his fear.
Once underwater, the freezing temperatures effected the facial area, being unprotected from the standard issued jumpsuit that Fox had insisted they wear. The depth was only 3 meters deep, and Marco hit the bottom, feeling something brush up against him as he did so. He instinctively grabbed for it, and it squirmed awkwardly around, avoiding his grasp. Whatever it was, it was not the Commodore.
Without having time to be scared, Marco tried bouncing himself off the floor. He could make out, with his eyes closed, that there was a light spot above him. That must be where he fell in.
On his third attempt, an arm reached out and grabbed him. He latched on, this time more cautious than last. It felt humanoid, this time. The burns from the lake caused the skin to flake, but Marco knew that the alpha radiation burns, although potentially fatal, were easily reversible; if they didn't die first from hypothermia.
Something brushed by Marco again, and again he grabbed for it, having no hope otherwise. It was a piece of material, and he instinctively grabbed on. Getting pulled to the surface was a ride in itself, with so much cold water streaming past his face. When he reached the surface, with the Commodore in tote, he grasped the edge of the ice.
L'ola was a few steps back, not wanting to fall in herself. She had managed to rip and tie her uniform into a long rope-like lifeline. It was all she could do in hopes of fishing the two out of the water, and it had worked.
"Fox to Sonak. Whats the status down there?" repeated again.
D'Angelo tapped the Commodore's combadge, but barely got out a word before he, too, fell into the later stages of hypothermia, and went unconscious.

Sonak felt herself brush against the bottom of the frozen lake. Her oxygen tank was crushed with the pressure of the water, having not been designed as a water tank and she was gasping for air. Freezing water had filled up her IV-suit, chilling her to the bone. As she gasped for air, and fought against the rising terror of being stuck in a confined space with nowhere to go, she breathed her first mouthful of water. Yet she still managed to keep hold of her, still running, tricorder. Surprisingly, the measuring item seemed to be reasonably waterproof and the team in the astrometrics lab was receiving some very interesting, underwater, readings.
Her eyes snapped open in fear, even as she felt something grab her by the collar of her suit. She struggled, but the something latched on tightly to her, dragging her up. Strong hands lifted her out of the water and she gasped for air as she crawled away. To her surprise, she spotted L'Ola seemingly half dressed, and out of the suit. A coughing sound drew her diminished attention and she was even more surprised to find the doctor looking like what humans tended to dub a 'drowned cat'.
That was her last recollection before she succumbed to the quiet and calm of unconsciousness, the freezing water, the terror and the radiation finally catching up with her.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Fox on Feb 15, 2007, 9:57
That was her last recollection before she succumbed to the quiet and calm of unconsciousness, the freezing water, the terror and the radiation finally catching up with her.
Finally with the signal enhancer in place they were able to pick up the readings Sonak's tricorder was taking. Together with that they also picked up another disturbing reading. Two weaking lifesigns, those of Sonak and D'Angelo.
Immediately Fox tabbed his comm-badge, calling the transporter chief. "Emergency transport. Get the away team to sickbay." the chief immediately confirmed and transported them. Fox got up from behind his console, leaving the simulation running and walked to the exit of astrometrics. "I'm going to sickbay." he announced and walked out.
While he walked through the corridors to sickbay, he was thinking by himself how this could be possible. He didn't override the safety settings of the holodeck for his simulation of that planet. This shouldn't have happend. After a few minutes he entered sickbay and saw Sonak and D'Angelo laying on a biobed. L'Ola was sitting on one.
He immediately walked over to one of the nurses. "How are they?" he asked. Feeling a bit guilty because this happend in his simulation.
(any want to take on the nurse?)Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commodore Sonak Reckus on Feb 15, 2007, 22:56
In the astrometrics lab, Jatan gasped as he too was seized by the terror his bondmate was experiencing. He grabbed hold of Trey's arm for support, painfully diggin his nails into the marine's arm. He gasped again, before he finally fainted and sagged down to the deck, taking the marine with him.

~~
Instead of the nurse, Doctor John Caldwell answered him. "Both doctors are unconscious," he reported grimly, "and suffering from radiation poisoning. Commander Kanz suffered minor radiation poisoning, and only because the was so insensible as to removing the IV suit. Additionally to radiation poisoning, the commodore is suffering from severe hypothermia and shock."
Caldwell walked over to the commodore's bed and proceeded to make a few adjustments to it. "I've got them both covered in hyperthermic blankets and they're treated for the poisoning. However I don't know what'll happen when they wake up. I'm sure you'll want the first officer informed about this incident?" He patted Fox encouragingly on the arm. "I know this was an accident. Commander Byrne should be called to have a look at the holodeck in question. If you didn't program that, it must've been a flaw in the programming."
He paused as he walke over to D'Angelo. "While I'm grateful that he saved our captain's life, I feel he's gone crackers. Diving into a radioactive, freezing cold lake. Oh, and the commodore suffered a cut to her shoulder as she sagged through the ice. She'll be sore for a bit, but she'll be fine. Both'll be fine." Now he turned to L'Ola. "Commander Kanz you're released from sickbay." He handed her the dripping tricorder. "I've neutralised the radation, it's safe to handle it now. Perhaps you'd want to have a look at the data?"

As trey tried his best to monitor the away team one the surface of the planet he found it extremely hard to keep them in range of his scanners due to the high level of radiation coming from the star. As he continued to scan the space surrounding the planet he notice that it was accompanied by two moons, he also noticed at curtain times during there revolution round the plant the two moons would face the star at the same time. As a result of this the magnetic fields of the moons would increase exponentially creating a small shield which protected the planet from the stars radiation. By calculating how fast it took each moon to rotate on its axis and revolve around the planet he was able to conclude that it took the moons 90 days to get to that point and that they would stay at that point for 30 days. {Wow so cool} he thought to himself. Then suddenly his consol began beeping. His scans of the planets surface had picked up something. The high radiation levels on the planets surface was coursing its ice sheets to melt at an alarming rate. “Oh boy, this is not good” he said to himself.
“What’s not good” came a voice from behind him.
Trey turned around to see the face behind the voice. It was Jatan his CO’s husband
“Well just don’t seat there looking at me what did your scans pick up?”
“Amm. Well sir all scans indicate that the radiations is coursing the planets ice sheets to melt an extraordinary rate” trey explained
“So what’s so wrong with that?” asked Jatan. Trey continued with his explanation
“Well the planet is about 90% water. And am guessing, our little away team was beamed down right in the middle of an ice lake. Now by calculating the rate of ice melting I would safely conclude that they are most likely walking around on a very thin sheet of ice that might be just about ready to give way.” Jatan was silent for a few moments he seemed to be thinking.
“I don’t think there is an thing to be worried about, but to be on the safe side maybe we should contact them and brief them on the……” Jatan went silent
“Sir is there some thing wrong” asked trey. But there was no. there was a sudden gasp from him and a looked of terror in his eyes.
“Sir are you okay” trey asked. Jatan grabbed held of Trey's arm for support, painfully digging his nails into the marine's arm. He gasped again, before he finally fainted and sagged down to the deck, taking the marine with him.
“SIR!...” =/\= astrometrics to transporter room 1 medical emergency two to beam directly to med bay=/\= seconds later trey and Jatan materialized in sick bay.
“What happened here” asked one of the nurses.
“Don’t really know one moment we were talking and the next he was grabbing my arm and taking me for a ride to the floor.” Answered trey “is he going to be alright”
“Well won’t know until we get him checked out” answered the nurse. Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Marco D'Angelo on Feb 16, 2007, 9:00
Marco awoke to Nurse Alice's smiling face. She was wiping a damp cloth on his head, humming a tune as she did so. She was startled when D'Angelo groaned, not expecting him to be awake.
"....giant swimming lizzar.."
"Now now, just rest Doctor." He was clearly not completely with it, mumbling for the next minutes about a giant sea monster.
Later, he would learn, that the sea creature was the intended study of the simulation- that is, until the simulation took an unexpected turn. Holodeck controls, of course, were offline. They probably should have been too, otherwise the three might not have acted in true fashion. The three were not too thrilled that their tribulations were for naught. They would discuss it later, after the drills, when the three happened to be together while dining. Apparently, with the safety protocols disabled, alpha radiation can easily be created. From those in Astrometrics, as Sonak later found out from Trey who was watching the monitors, it appeared that the system's star was emitting the radiation. Fox had programmed this in, but he had forgotten to deactivate it's effect on the crew. The thought still made Marco's skin boil, and the Commodore's skin chill- but it was nothing compared to watching L'ola's face when she recounted her choice of uniform usage in front of everyone who was watching in Astrometrics.
"Alice?" Marco questioned, finally emerging from his sleep. He looked at his outstretched hand, which was reaching for comfort. It had radiation burns, but the bio bed was already regenerating them.
"You have some minor radiation burns. It probably feels a lot worse than it really is."
"Commodore Reck..?.."
"She's doing just fine. She's right over there?" Alice pointed, but Marco couldn't lift his head high enough to see, so he had to take her word for it. The light above Alice's head shown past her hair, which glistened beautifully.
"L'ola? Is she ok?" The last he remembered, she was pulling them out of the radiation lake.
"She's fine too. She just had a tad bit of frostbite, but nothing serious or irreversible. Actually, you were all lucky. Every injury seems reversible." That was fine now, Marco thought, but that didn't make his burn-taught skin feel any better.
Fox came over, attempting to apologize.
"Don't worry about it, Commander. All in a day's work." Marco couldn't wink, but in perfect health it would have been in his nature.
"In fact, you all got quite the show, I bet."
Fox acknowledged Marco's last statement, more embarrassed than his medical officer counterpart was amused. Marco didn't hold this against him, people make mistakes. "All's well that ends well" Marco let out before Alice shooed Fox away.
"You need your rest, sir." She cued the computer to dim the lights to 10% intensity. The lights above his bed deluminated.
"Commodore?" Marco said, hoping he would get a response before Alice came back getting after him to get some rest.
"Yes?"
"I hope this means that I'm excused from the rest of the drills!"
This time, however, the Commodore could tell from Marco's voice that he was only kidding.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Fox on Feb 16, 2007, 9:55
"All's well that ends well" Marco let out before Alice shooed Fox away.
Fox didn't want to discuss wether this incident was a mistake by him in the programming the holodeck or a technical error. He walked to the doors of sickbay as Alice hold him both officers needed their rest now. And headed back to astrometrics to work on the report of this incident.
Immediately as he walked in he went to the console he had been sitting behind before. And ended the simulation on the holodeck and the ships sensors to go back to normal. On the bridge the view of the spacedock returned on the main screen.
After a short time working behind his console he turned to the first officer and handed him a padd. "I do not know the cause of what happened. But i take full responsibility for what happened to Sonak and D'Angelo. It was my drill, my simulation. Here's my report." the first officer nodded. Fox turned around an left astrometrics again.
For a while he wandered through the corridors of the Vesuvius, thinking about what had gone wrong.

She was not in the least amused, and certainly not by the CMO's attempt at being witty. "That depends on whether we are released by Doctor Caldwell," Sonak remarked dryly, "and I believe we will be. Did I not just hear Fox' voice?"
Caldwell approached, his expression grim. "Yes, and I told him to leave. Now be quiet you two, you need rest. You both were exposed to high levels of radiation, even though it was just on the holodeck, sub zero temperatures and in your case commodore, near drowning. I thought you were an excellent swimmer, why didn't you swim?"
Sonak glanced up at the assistant CMO, looking thoroughly annoyed. "Because I was frozen with fear," she admitted, "the pressure of the water, along with the leak in my suit, caused my suit to be pressed against me. I could not breathe and all I could think of was being in a small enclosed space. You would remember that I am claustrophobic?"
Caldwell nodded. "That I remember, good then that the dear doctor is so selfless." He winked at his CO, while he saw D'Angelo's face redden in response. "Now, I want the both of you to rest, and tomorrow we'll see if you'll be released from sickbay. If you'll excuse me I've got to talk to Commander Kanz and Commander Byrne." The assistant CMO left the two doctors alone, hoping that they would take the rest and not continue to talk quietly among themselves.
He tapped his combadge. "Commander Byrne, please report to sickbay. There's something I need to show you." He picked up the half-soaked tricorder; they'd been lucky to transfer the recorded data to a PADD before the instrument finally sputtered and died. When Byrne arrived, he held out the tricorder. "This one's no longer water proof," Caldwell reported, "it was subjected to sub zero temperature, radiation and water....please repair the commodore's tricorder as soon as possible? She'll want it back soon."
(Byrne)
Meanwhile, Sonak struggled to sit up and glance at D'Angelo. "Thank you," she said simply, then limply fell back into her pillow as the room seemed to turn on its axis around her. "That was a very frightening experience," she whispered as she stared at the ceiling, willing it to stop spinning. "I thought I was going to die..."
(D'Angelo)
After talking to Byrne, Caldwell approached Maverick and the nurse he was talking to. "Doctor Reckus will be just fine," he reassured the marine, "both of them, actually. Jatan will be released from sickbay soon. The commodore I'm keeping overnight. If you promise not to wake her if she's asleep, or to excite her if she's still awake, I'll allow you a brief visit."
(Trey)Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commander 1st Logan Byrne on Feb 17, 2007, 1:28
After inspecting the drowned tricorder, Byrne realized that it had been tampered with, as with the environmental suits being worn by the away team. It seemed that the holodeck had been acidentally programed to emit ALL of the active radiation thhat could have been present on the planet's ice field, and that contact with the surface ice amplified it, causing the accident. "Commander Byrne to Fox, please join me in the Science Lab on Deck 8. I have created a few possible scenarios for the incident in the holodeck." <TAG Fox> "Byrne to Bridge, lock down the Starbase repair crews responsible for reapiring the relays on that deck. We have noticed a few spikes in the power grids on that deck. And send a copy of this report to Commodore Sonak, when she awakens. I am also going to need all programming for the Fox scenario in my office." With that, Byrne went to join Fox in the upper Science Lab. Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Marco D'Angelo on Feb 19, 2007, 7:49
It was a few hours before D'Angelo's core temperature was regulated within normal body temperature range. Commodore Reckus, being a Vulcan, recovered quicker, even though the extent of her problems were greater. L'ola had been released from sickbay a long time back.
D'Angelo was intent on getting some food into his system, so he headed out of sickbay, having a signed release from Jatan Reckus.
The automatic doors had just hissed shut from sickbay, when the Commodore happened to be making her way around the corner. She handed him a padd containing Marine drill preparations.
"I've just been released from sickbay, what kind of crazy people are you on this ship?" That's what he wanted to say, of course, but all he could muster up was "Where are we going to meet?"
"You'll have to wait for Mr. Maverick's briefing for that. He should be making an announcement as soon as he's ready."
"Fair enough," the Doctor thought. Hopefully, since he was so eager to volunteer on the last away mission, he would be able to hide in the crowd of other officers. He was once an athletic person, until his injury. He was sure he would be able to do anything physical that the marines could throw at him, and conceitedly figured he could easily out think them. Either way, he would rather remain in the shadows.
Reaching his quarters, he laid down, awaiting orders to do otherwise. He replicated a simple glass of water, and some oatmeal cookies.
=/\= Computer, new message. =/\=
The computer chirped. Marco spoke, replaying his message over again a few times to make sure it sounded OK.

"Commander Byrne to Fox, please join me in the Science Lab on Deck 8. I have created a few possible scenarios for the incident in the holodeck."
"Be right there Commander." Fox answered and walked immediately to the Science Lab. Right after entering he walked to the console Byrne stood behind. "I take you found something?" he asked.
Byrne nodded and showed him some flaws in the program Fox had created on the holodeck, even the savety protocols were off. He looked at Byrne. "That is not my program." he said.
Immediately Byrne tabbed his comm-badge and called for a lockdown, then he looked at Fox again "Then what did you create?" Fox had been looking over the pad with his holodeck program several times to also find out what went wrong. He handed it to Byrne. "I hope you can make something off it." still looking straight at Byrne "Now if you will excuse me Commander, i'm needed again in astrometrics to finish up my drill." Byrne nodded
With that he left the science lab and went to astrometrics calling everyone who participated in the drill to it also. He hoped Sonak and D'Angelo were recovered far enough to attend also.
To his surprice everyone was there when he entered astrometrics. "Now for the hard part." he thought as he had to present the results without trailing off to the incident. He made some of the measurements appear on a screen. "From the readings the away team took we can see this planet with all the interference and radiation is not quite suitable yet for colonisation." Fox went on for some minutes.
When he was done with the results from all the sensor/tricorder readings he thanked everyone for participating in his scenario. People started to leave. Fox quickly looked around, but he couldn't see her anymore. He quickly walked out of astrometrics and saw her walking and ran to her. "Commodore!." he called.
Sonak stopped and turned around. Fox walked to her. "I feel i need to apologize for what happened in the holodeck." he said. Sonak nodded.
(Sonak)Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commodore Sonak Reckus on Feb 19, 2007, 17:47
On her way out, Sonak was stopped by the science chief, who was apologizing profoundly for the incident. Since the Vulcan knew her chief well enough to know he would never intentionally create such a malfunction, she waved it off. "If engineering is on it to fix the problem then it should be all right," she answered, "I know you would not intentionally harm anyone. That is just not in your nature."
She patted him on the arm briefly. "Do not dwell on it Fox, accidents do happen and we all recovered just fine. No lasting after effects were noted by Caldwell." She smiled softly. "Except that our new chief medical officer grasps at everything to get out of any drill scenario. I cannot wait to see him try weasle himself out of Trey's scenario."
Sonak paused. "Speaking of which...have you seen Trey?" Just at that moment, the SMO hurried past. "We will discuss your report later Commander Fox," she added formally before rushing after the SMO. "Lieutenant Maverick, do you have your scenario ready?"
(trey)Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by LT.J.G. trey maverick on Feb 20, 2007, 6:14
"Lieutenant Maverick, do you have your scenario ready?" came sonak’s voice from behind him
“Yes ma’am but there will be no briefing on what it is about and when it’s going to take place”
She seemed perplexed at his statement, so he continued with his explanation.
“Well you see, as a marine the greatest test of one’s skill is to see how one functions under pressure in the unknown, well it will be the same with my scenario. So be on your guard and expect the unexpected, and if i were you I would get an early night” and with those words he made his way to his quarters.
=/\=all hands, this is your S.M.O. as of 0500 the VESUVIOUS was infiltrated by a group of terrorist calling them self RED NOVA, they have already taken over the bridge, torpedo bay, engineering , the weapons lookers, all cargo and shuttle bays . They seem highly knowledgeable about the ships layout and systems which means we have our self’s a mole, objective one, make contact with whom ever is in charge of this group and find out there demands. Two find our little mole. Three retake all post with out harming any of the hostages. And lastly teach this terrorist that they don’t mess with the crew of the VESUVIOUS and get away with it. Now pear up, lets go get our ship back, trey out =/\= and with these words trey watched the senior staff rush out of there quarters pick there partners and headed out still in there sleep wear.
“ miss Lola you’re with me, we’ll retake torpedo bays and move on from there, lets move out” Lola seem a little more than upset having to team up with trey but did not say a thing and did as she was told. As they walked down the corridor trey notices Lola eyeing uneasily.
“What?” he asked but there was no answer from her, she just motion to him to keep moving, so he did just that. As the continued down the corridor he notices she became a lot more uneasy. “what is it?, look I know you don’t like me much but we have to work together if we are to get out of this and retake the ship” then he notice her steering him down and it hit like a tone of bricks, it was the way he was dressed or lack of. All he had on was a pear of black shorts with fluffy pink bunnies on them
“It’s the bunnies right. Look am sorry I could not cover up but this all just happened so fast so could you look passed this”. The two continued to the turbo lift. Lola was quick to notice that the lifts were taken off line and subjected they take an alternate route.

Marco woke up. It was 0500 hours, and he the drills had started. "This is getting ridiculous!" he yelled out, but nobody was in the room to console him. He tossed himself out of bed, got dressed, and like deja-vous, he was in the hallway again at an ungodly hour waiting to begin training.
He caught the tail end of the communique, as it took a few words before he fully woke up, and nobody had the consideration of calling a briefing of any sort. He must have missed the part about picking partners, because people were pairing off left and right. Heading down the hall, he saw L'ola. He asked if she wanted to partner up - I mean, they already had been partners once so why no... Trey interrupted his thought, claiming her as his partner. "That settles that, I suppose."
Not all too disappointed, mostly conniving for who to partner up with, Marco ran into Commodore Reckus - but she was busy in her quarters toting her children back to bed. Apparently the Doctor wasn't the only one to be caught off guard. As he approached her, he realized she was already partnered up as well. "Alrighty," he said, to nobody in particular, and made his way to the turbolift.
In an intruder situation on his last assignment, a freighter, his duty was to secure the medical supplies, and lock down sickbay. That didn't sound like an all-too bad idea here. The only problem was, if he wanted to get to sickbay, he would be traveling down the Jeffries tube. He could tell the turbolift wasn't working from the collection of officers that were near it either trying to reroute power, or trying to get convince the computer to let them have access to the transporter system.
"Well - Jeffries tube it is."
Marco followed an Ops officer through the innards of the ship, until his path diverged toward sickbay. Reaching the horizontal point in his journey, he pounded the shaft cover off of its hinges, and moved into sickbay. Everything seemed in place, and he ordered the nurse on staff to lock-down sickbay. She was a bit homely, compared to Nurse Alice, and Marco's fantasy of being stuck in sickbay with a nurse faded rather quickly.
With nothing better to do, Dr. D'Angelo reconfigured the internal sensors, which the intruder didn't have the sense to disable for his deck, to detect life-signs within the vicinity of sickbay. There were none present thus-far, but if someone tried to come in, they would be greeted with a hypospray that will put them quickly to sleep. Marco waited further instruction, curious as to how the other teams were handling their end of the situation.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by LT.J.G. trey maverick on Feb 20, 2007, 9:44
Lola suggested that they take the Jeffries tubes and with that they popped open the one nearest to them. Trey climbed in followed by Lola as they made there way through the winding tube trey began to feel a little light headed.
“Is it me or is it getting harder to breath in here” he asked Lola. Miss Kanz seemed to be going through the same strains as him. They made it to a ladder and made there way down, the two were now standing in a junction corridor with a computer terminal on the wall. Trey quickly made his way to it and began keying in commands. His suspicions had been confirmed. There were indeed losing oxygen. It seemed some one was having the ship’s computer to suck up all the air in the Jeffries tubes. Trey smiled to himself.
“These guys are a lot smarter than I thought, they could not post guards in here so they figured if they were to suck all the air out that it would stop us from using them” trey looked over to Lola. “Miss Kanz this is where you come in, I need you to hack into the security system and try to reverse what ever it is these guys have done or we are dead”

Sonak litterally rolled out of bed when Jatan issued her a firm shove. "Get up!" he yelled after her as she hit the floor hard. Having been too tired the previous night, Sonak hadn't even heard the reveille call at 0500. "Get up," Jatan called again, yanking the blanket from her grasp as she'd taken it down with her. "You're the CO you're supposed to be the first one out there, taking charge of the situation."
When she finally found enough energy to actually get to her feet, she was nearly thrown off them again as Jatan tossed her uniform at her at blinding speed. Her tunic hit her painfully in the face when she failed to respond swiftly enough to catch it. Jatan was already dressed and halfway out the door, already having summoned the nanny to take care of their five children.
Five minutes later, Sonak was trotting barefeet down the corridor, having forgotten in her half-sleep daze to put her boots on. Her hair was still tousled and her eyes narrowed with sleep. "What is going on?" she enquired as she nearly collided with Fox and Logan, who were coming her way. "What idiot sounded the intruder alert at 0500?"
She had already forgotten about having to be alert for Trey Maverick's scenario and she wondered just what the hell was going on. She'd had barely any sleep lately, and she was working on her last reserves. Expecially with Miriya crying about half the night and neither she nor Jatan had been able to find a cause for it. She would have to remind herself to have D'Angelo examine the infant soon, or she'd just crack up.
"I demand an explanation!" she finally said raising her voice to be heard over the noise of the red alert claxon. "And someone shut off that noise!"Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by L'Ola Kanz on Feb 22, 2007, 0:14
“Miss Kanz this is where you come in, I need you to hack into the security system and try to reverse what ever it is these guys have done or we are dead”
L'Ola looked at him with a 'You can't be serious' look on her face. "It's not the security system, that has no impact whatsoever on environmental controls. As for hacking, you got the wrong Kanz girl. We're not going to be able to get through this way."
Trey's expression didn't really change, "You need to reverse whatever they did."
"No" she shook her head, "I need to make a judgement call that says there's a better way round this." She started to head back up the way they came. She could hear Trey saying something, but couldn't quite make out what it was.
Moving back towards the main corridors, L'Ola saw the walls starting to move a little. Then she started crawling a little slower. But she didn't really notice, *I can't believe that guy sometimes. I mean I don't have to kill myself for his scenario, I don't*. Her stress levels were rising, and the ship around her was spinning out of control.
Luckily she just made it into the corridor before she collapsed completely.

"It's not the security system, that has no impact whatsoever on environmental controls. As for hacking, you got the wrong Kanz girl. We're not going to be able to get through this way."
Trey's expression didn't really change, "You need to reverse whatever they did."
"No" she shook her head, "I need to make a judgment call that says there's a better way round." And with these words Lola began to back track.
“Hey what do you think you’re doing” trey called out to her, but she seemed to ignore him. He followed her with the intent of having it out with her, but as he gained in distance on her he notice her movements became very sluggish {this is not good} he thought to himself. Lola was able to make back to the main corridor, on doing so she lost consciousness. Maverick rushed to her aid.
“LOLA! Hey snap out of it, Lola…” but there was no response from her. He placed his fingers on her neck trying to find a pulse. He was relived to have found one no mater how weak it was {need to get her down to sickbay, but with the lifts down and the air being suck out of the Jeffries tubes it seemed ever more impossible and I can’t just leave her here} were his thoughts. His thought processors seemed to be working over time then it hit him, the lifts WERE the only way down. He sat Lola up against the wall then made his way to the lift, he opened the side panel and began hacking into the lift controls. “Got it” and the doors slid open revealing the turbo lift’s shaft. He then made his was back to Lola and lifted her onto his back. The two began there dangerous trip down the shaft. As trey made his way down with Lola on his back it came apparent that this would be no easy task, for one Lola was heavier that she looked and two due to the fact that he was carrying someone on his back it made movement and progress exceedingly difficult but it had to be done. The only good news was he only had to go down one deck.
After struggling down the shaft for what seemed like forever trey finally made it to the lift door. He poisoned him self in a way which allowed him to reach for and rip of the panel. He once again began the tedious task of hacking the lift protocols. A few moments later the door slid open and he made his way through. From here it became a lot easer. He finally made it to sickbay only to be welcomed by another locked door
“What the hell, why is sick bay locked down… I guess they must have taken it as well” trey paused momentarily “I have no choice I need to get in there” he began slicing into the door controls, it took him only a few second to get it opened. As he made his way in with lola still on his back he was welcomed by the doctor jumping out at him with a hypo spry.

"YAH!"
Marco jumped out from the shadows, making what would look like a humorous scene had the situation been less serious.
"Get her on the bio bed." Finally, the doctor was in a place where he was used to barking orders. On his freighter assignment, he made do without nurses, and often commandeered fellow loaders and unloaders to do the job when the need was present. The orders flowed fluently.
"What she needs is rest. She has done too much, and with the heightened psionic energy on the ship from the recent events involved with the Drill, her nervous system is probably overloading." He brushed her hair back in admiration. He didn't have to hide his emotions while she was in a fainted state.
Marco tossed the hypospray he was using to guarding the shaft to the marine. "Here - guard the door."
Trey had different plans, tossing the the hypospray back, and left the way he came in.
"It is his drill, I suppose." the Doctor said to the nurse who had just come back in the room. She took over the care of L'ola, who's bio-readings were starting to stabilize.
Marco ordered the lights in the room to be dimmed to 30% intensity. The lights dimmed, and he stepped back into the shadows to await a possible Jeffrie's tube entrant.
An hour passed, and Marco opened his eyes. He had fallen asleep a few moments, but the scratching noise that was consistent of someone trying to override the locked down sickbay doors.
Motioning to the nurse on staff, he directed her to go into his office. He crouched down beside the bio-bed containing L'ola and waited. The doctor was cutting corners. Had this been a real intruder situation, he would have had her moved. Since it was only a Drill, he used her as a hiding place.
The door made a swooshing sound as it opened. Multiple footsteps could be heard. As a foot appeared around the corner of the bio-bed, Marco infused it with a knock-out agent. The foot never moved. Instead, the weight that was about to shift forward stopped and fell to the ground in front of Marco, with the face hidden by a mask. The infiltrator was wearing a black jumpsuit. As Marco reached to remove the mask, a foot of a second person stepped on his hand.
Marco looked up in fear.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by LT.J.G. trey maverick on Feb 23, 2007, 9:02
The doctor help trey place Lola on one of the bio beds, he watched the doctor perform his scan on her.
“What she needs is rest. She has done too much, and with the heightened psionic energy on the ship from the recent events involved with the Drill, her nervous system is probably overloading." Said doc. D’Angelo
“Well that’s a relief” replied trey as he eyed the doctor up. This was the first time he was actually meeting the new doctor, to be honest he had no recollection of nack ever leaving. “Anyway doc. If you continue looking at her like that you might burn a hole into her head” added trey noticing the way the doctor was steering at Lola. D’Angelo through him a hypospry.
“Here, guard the door” he ordered, trey trough it back at him
“Sorry doc. Got more important thing to do” then he was out the door, his plan was to head to the torpedo bay with Lola but with her in sickbay he was now on his own. “If I remembered correctly the torpedo bays should be on deck six, well I guess it’s back to the turbo shaft” he commented to him self. As he began to head out he heard a few voices coming for down the corridor {well, well, well, my first catch of the day} he thought to him self as he hid in the corner awaiting his prey. As the two unsuspecting men came round the corner they were greeted by a few well placed kicks, punches and chops to there body. The feel to the floor, they were dressed in black commando Special Forces uniform with black masks covering there faces. Try unstapled there belts, using them to bind there hands and feet together. He then picked up there weapons and headed for the lift shaft.
Deck six was crawling with goons, they had this place lock down tight. This made moving around very difficult, he needed to come up with a plan quick if he was to secure the torpedo bays. Trey noticed one of the goons fiddling with his gun strap the others had left him behind, this was just the opportunity he was waiting for and he did not let it go to waste. Trey snuck up behind him and placed his head into a sleeper lock, within second the goon was down, trey then dragged him round the corner where he began to relive him of his clothing.

Sitting in the Science Lab, Commanders Byrne and Fox were sifting thru the records of the failed tricorders and were thrown by the sound of the claxon alarm. Grabbing their PADDs and phasers, they rushed to the Main Bridge to meet up with the senior staff, but collided with the barefooted Commodore across from Sickbay. After being briefed, they tried to communicate with Trey in the Jefferies tubes, but were unable to locate them due to the lack of enviromental control and subsystems within the tubes. (Unknowning to them, that Trey and L'ola had already been thru sickbay.) <TAG Sonak> As the trio made their way to the lower decks, they came across information that the 'terrorist' cell was holed up in the forward topedo tube rooms and locked down. "Commodore, how would you like the chance of your dreams?", asked Byrne. Stroking the Commodore's hand, he winked and said,"I need you to lockdown the airlock as Fox and I attempt to close the bays down from the outside and flush the vents cutting off the oxygen in the room to allow Trey to attempt to gain control." <TAG Sonak> Suiting up, Byrne and Fox prepared for an simulated EVA per the holodeck control. <TAG Trey>Re: VES Mission: Drills! "Come on - I'm new on the ship!" No matter- a large yellow flashing indicator was placed on his chest. It was to signal that he was dead.
"You are to go to the brig until this drill is over." the masked marine said. His counterpart was still passed out on the floor.
"I think you are mistaken. You see, I have a patient here- and that's no drill." The marine looked at L'ola, who was showing signs of stirring, and didn't buy the doctor's story. He forcefully grabbed the Doctor's hand. Marco instinctively flailed his arms, catching the marine's chin square with his elbow. The marine fell to the ground. Two masked men now lie in sickbay.
"I think this Drill is getting a bit over the top. How come every drill so far has involved someone getting injured?" L'ola was still a little too groggy to respond, but D'Angelo was bouncing ideas off of her anyways. "I think I'm going to put these two in a forcefield... yea, that's what I'm going to do."
=/\= Commodore Reckus =/\= D'Angelo tapped his badge after getting the two into biobeds and erecting the forcefield.
=/\= You need to end this Drill, or make sickbay off limits. =/\=

=/\= I'm NOT trying to get out of the Drill again =/\= He was indignant on her assumption, but it would not have been out of his character to try to skirt the drill.
=/\= We have real sick here... 'R' - 'E' - 'A' - 'L', as in - 'not a drill' I have two of the Drill culprits here, threatening to take me away to the brig.=/\= The Commodore ended the transmission. Marco didn't know if she was angry with his tone, or if she was angry with Maverick. Either way, perhaps this would stop the shenanigans that have been happening in his sickbay.
Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commodore Sonak Reckus on Feb 26, 2007, 20:57
A little riled that nobody was actually answered her questions, Sonak walked with her chiefs of engineering and science, wondering what they were up to. However while they walked, they finally decided to fill her in on the situation and her chagrined mood lifted somewhat, until Byrne took her hand and seemed to be flirting with her.
"Commodore, how would you like the chance of your dreams?", asked Byrne. Stroking the Commodore's hand, he winked and said,"I need you to lockdown the airlock as Fox and I attempt to close the bays down from the outside and flush the vents cutting off the oxygen in the room to allow Trey to attempt to gain control."
The Vulcan pulled her hand from his grasp in not an unkind fashion and forced herself to keep her expression neutral as she regarded her chief engineer. "As long as you keep in mind that nobody is to get killed," she chided him, "we need to interrogate these mercenaries, not kill them. If we kill them, we are no better than they and Starfleet stands above this petty behaviour."
Suiting up, Byrne and Fox prepared for an simulated EVA per the holodeck control.[i]
Sonak entered the holodeck with them and was surprised at how perfect a holodeck could recreate her own ship. She watched them enter the airlock and she locked it behind them, following Byrne's exact instructions. It had been a long while since she'd performed any such task, and this crash-course refreshment was certainly a welcome event.
As Byrne and Fox struggled their way out of the ship, Sonak received an angry page from sickbay. [i]=/\= Commodore Reckus, you need to end this Drill, or make sickbay off limits. =/\=
"That is a negative doctor, I cannot exclude sickbay from the drill scenario. Those participating are well aware of the fact that sickbay holds real patients. You are expected to react as though this were a real situation. Now, cease trying to get out of these scenario's doctor, it is starting to become increasingly annoying!"
=/\= I'm NOT trying to get out of the Drill again =/\=
"Be that as it may doctor, sickbay will not be excluded." She was starting to lose control over her carefully modulated tone and her annoyance was slipping through.
=/\= We have real sick here... 'R' - 'E' - 'A' - 'L', as in - 'not a drill' I have two of the Drill culprits here, threatening to take me away to the brig.=/\=
Sonak was well aware of the fact sickbay held real patients, otherwise it wouldn't be a sickbay. Without bothering to respond, she cut the transmission for she knew the 'culprits' as the CMO had so aptly named them, would likely be tracking any intraship missions. Instead she opened another channel, hoping it would be secure and hoping she would get hold of her SMO. "Reckus to Maverick, and all other teams, what is your status?"
(Maverick...include others more plz! You have this week to finish up. Give us a challenge!) Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commander 1st Logan Byrne on Feb 26, 2007, 22:53
As Byrne and Fox edged their way towards the openning to the Fore Tubes, Logan reached into his bag of 'tricks' and pulled a PADD and a concussion grenade. Once in the tube, Logan sealed the doors and activated the flush vents to push the oxygen out of the room, disorientating the 'culprits'. Once the shock seemed to wear off, he tossed the grenade into the main area, knocking out the remaining terrorists. <TAG Trey> Unlocking the doors, Byrne and Fox headed back out of the room, and communicated their actions to the Commodore to rely to the real-time scenario being run by Lt. Maverick. So that the terorists could be yellow-tagged. Logging off from the holodeck, Byrne winked at the Comodore and headed to the Main Torpedo room service conduits to see if he could assist in the simulated lockdown. Re: VES Mission: Drills! Trey continued to make his way down the corridor until he was found him self standing at the entrance of the torpedo bay, he began slicing into the door commands. The door slid open, and to trey’s surprise and delight the terrorist were all neutralizes. Trey began his search of the area
=/\=Reckus to Maverick, and all other teams, what is your status? =/\= came the commodore’s voice over his com badge.
=/\= trey here, got good news and bad ma’am, the good new is all enemies in the torpedo bays have been neutralized. =/\=

=/\= what about the bridge and engineering =/\=
[Both are locked down tight no way of getting sir]
There communications were interrupted. [“this is the captain of the red nova speaking, we have your ship, at this very moment my team down in your engineering are rigging a quantum torpedo to your warp reactor, and if our demands are not met we will blow this ship apart, and trust me we will have no second thoughts.”]

[“Is that so YOUNG marine, so I guess the lives of your commodore amounts to nothing to you then, they are all so lovely especially this young one here. She is what just a few weeks….] said the man with a cold, dark and sinister voice
=/\=what are your demands=/\= came the voice of commodore sonak over the com.

[“Ah someone with a little more sense, all we want is your ship”]
Sonak held her breath, thereby biting back a furious retort. She glared at both Fox and Byrne, her eyes holding the fury she felt. Even though she knew this was just a drill, when it came to her children she was like any mother: very protective.
"You are not getting my ship," she replied, sounding dead calm, even to her own surprise, "and if you so much as hurt that child, you will have me to deal with and I assure you it will not be pleasant. Children are sacred on this vessel, and you will meet severe penalties if you harm any of them."
While she talked, the three officers walked to the nearest science lab and she motioned for Fox to start tracking down the origin of the communication. "Lieutenant Maverick, are you listening in? Fire at will when you encounter the enemy. I want these terrorists off my ship, even if you have to beam them into space in order to achieve it."
Now she turned to Logan. "Get to sickbay," she ordered, "and see if you can get the CMO to device some form of anaesthetic that will knock out only those that are not listed on this ship's crew manifest. L'Ola is in sickbay, she should be able to assist."
Then she remembered something vital, there were explosives aboard but it was unknown wich part of the ship they were armed, since everything on the Vesuvius was present in threefold. For now, she forewent reminding her chief engineer, as he had more pressing matters. If the terrorists could be overcome, then at least that threat would be eliminated. For now, she would head to main engineering herself to check things out, hoping that her children would remain unharmed.
The Vulcan felt fury built over the realisation that she was letting a mere scenario get to her, but then decided that even in their enthusiasm, regular crewmembers playing a certain part in a scenario could go too far, and eventually believe their part was real.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commander 1st Logan Byrne on Feb 28, 2007, 8:59
Shocked by the words of the terrorists holding a child ransom on top of the photon torpedo, Byrne punched the bulkhead next to him. This caught the other two officers off-guard.
"Commodore, I pledged my alliegence to you once I walked on board this ship. Scenario or not, I will NOT allow this to proceed. Play along with them, I have a plan.", said Logan. The smirk on his face was just enough to calm the hot-blooded Vulcan's temper. But only enough for her to push him towards his destination.
Running towards the plasma control relays on Deck 9, Logan found the primary control panel to the flush plasma vents. Using his arm implants, Byrne created a program to deactivate the primary warp core and flush the warp energy into space, thus rendering the core inactive.
As a side thought he also created an algorthim to detach the anti-matter containers from the ship if that had failed. This way he could "jettison" the core and surround the victims in a forcefield till help arrived. Or just shunt the known crew out of the room and suck the oxygen and everything not bolted down into space.
'I am not gonna let my god-daughter get hurt. I swear by it', thought Logan. 'And Sonak would have me spaced if I did, and would kill my surprise', he smiled to himself.
Setting the program in motion, he signalled Commodore Sonak his intentions via his PADD. <TAG Sonak> <TAG Trey>Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Fox on Feb 28, 2007, 15:13
[“Ah someone with a little more sense, all we want is your ship”]While she talked, the three officers walked to the nearest science lab and she motioned for Fox to start tracking down the origin of the communication.
Immediately Fox walked to one of the consoles in the the science lab, working on pinpointing the origin. He looked at Logan as he was going through the readings he had gotten. "We're dealing with technical geniuses." he said as made a small map of the vesuvius appear on a view screen.
Fox poined at a blinking dot. "That where we were." A line coming from that point could be seen, going through several sections of the ship. "Looks like they rerouted the signal several times to prevent an easy backtrace. It will take some time to find the real origin."
"Then get to it commander!" Sonak snapped as she rushed out the door after Logan, though where Logan went one way, she followed the corridor that would lead her to main engineering. There, she stood gazing at the deactivated warpcore. "Reckus to Maverick and Byrne, how do I disengage the bomb that is attached to the warpcore?"
She knew she could also ask Nick, but he was busy holding down the fort on the bridge. "I am looking at the device now but it is out of my reach. Whoever placed it is either extremely agile or extremely tall."Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by L'Ola Kanz on Mar 1, 2007, 20:03
Slowly but surely the room came into focus. She nearly sighed as she saw the ceiling. Somehow, even though the entire ship was decorated in nearly identical fashion, the sickbay ceilings were easily identifiable. Especially when you'd woken up with a view of them a few times.
*What happened this time?* She tried to think. She couldn't remember anything being close to hitting her on the head, nor could she remember losing her balance at any time. Then she thought of the drill that was going on, and her train of thought quickly spread to a room lacking in air, to stress of so much going on in her life and to HIM. He was there. Which made things even more understandable.
L'Ola finally felt able to sit up, which she did as carefully as possible. She was surprised to see their new doctor looking at diagrams of the ship at the other end of sickbay. "Need a hand with that?" she asked.
Marco turned round with a start, apparently she'd been quieter sitting up than she'd realised, "Ah good you're up. Welcome back to the crisis." He didn't seem too impressed with the current situation, but made no attempt to turn back to his work. In fact, L'Ola got the sneaking suspicion that she'd managed to wake up in the one minute he hadn't been looking in her direction since she got there.
"Lieutenant Maverick still causing chaos then? Here, let me help you with whatever it is you're doing." She stood up and went over to where Marco had been working. "I've been on this ship for a long time now so I know my way round it pretty well if that helps."
<D'Angelo>Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Marco D'Angelo on Mar 2, 2007, 5:33
Not expecting their hands to touch when they both happened to reach for a padd, Marco grabbed his hand back. He wished he hadn't, but his subconcious happened to control that particular reaction.
"I have no idea what is going on now- yes, Maverick is causing chaos again." Marco used the padd to point to the two marines while he talked.
"I knocked them out - they are in a forcefield for now. I have half a mind to put Maverick in there too when I get hold of him." the Doctor winked at L'ola. He wasn't really a vengeful person. He was just frustrated at the moment.
"If you really want to help, you can start going through the sickbay subsystems and recreating the bio files. One of the power surges corrupted them, and I have yet to retrieve them. I'm not much for being an Engineer... you wouldn't know how to reconstruct these, would you?"
<L'ola>Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commander 1st Logan Byrne on Mar 4, 2007, 0:11
Surveying the bomb from an uppper level, Logan couldn't firgure how they placed it so high up without anti-grav boots. Using his PADD to scan the surface of the Matter Containment coils, he recieved some startling information. "Commander Fox, can you check these readings, I am getting some wierd spacial readings from the chamber room. Sort of like it's not really there. Can you confirm this?", Byrne out. <TAG Fox> "Commodore, this is gonna sound strange, but do you have your phaser on you? I am gonna need you to set it for the owest stun and shoot the bulkhead immediately behind you. Don't worry, there IS NO chance of it setting off the bomb, I hope....... I have been getting wierd readings from the chamber, but have to wait till Commander Fox sends me back the information read-outs. Till then, stay your ground, force-fields are still in place cutting off the anti-matter coils", Bynre out. <TAG Sonak>Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commodore Sonak Reckus on Mar 4, 2007, 0:24
"Shoot at what exactly?" Sonak asked, casting an anxious look at the antimatter coils. A blueish have told her that force fields were indeed in place, but for how long? And would a blast of this bomb, if it went off, be held back by the force field? She drew the phaser someone had thrust into her hands earlier and took a few steps forward, the deck feeling ice cold against her bare feet.
She suppressed a shiver as she set the phaser to its lowest setting and carefully aimed at the bulkhead. Logan had told her where to aim and she would follow his advice as he was the chief engineer. Pressing the trigger, she saw the beam leave the muzzle of her weapon and strike the bulkhead, sending sparks in all directions.
Sonak was briefly covered in darkness as the lights in main engineering flickered off and then back on. To her horror, she saw that the forcefield had collapsed. "Logan we have a serious problem," she commented as she took another few steps back, this time towards the nearest console, "I am trying to re-erect the forcefield around the coils. You need to keep me informed of your readings, and the terrorist status. You promised to save my child...do you intend to come back on that promise?" It sounded almost accusingly, but it was never meant as such. Like any parent, Sonak felt deep concern for the safety of her children, just as much as she was concerned for every single crewmember on her ship...and this time on the starbase as well.
Engineering was just about deserted as there was a shift change occurring just now and the engineers were working in the other two engine rooms at this time because of the drill scenario that was going on for the senior staff. Sonak felt the temperature rise in main engineering and she wiped a long strand of hair from her face in annoyance. She was working feverishly to get the forcefields back in place, but the harder she tried, the more it seemed to be failing to work.
Occasionally, she cast a nervous glance up at the bomb that was attached to the warpcore. She couldn't jettison the core for it would still pose a danger to both ship and starbase. "Logan I need that update!" she snapped, "you may remember that I am a doctor and not a trained engineer! What do I need to do, I am running out of time here! Trey, what is the status on these terrorists, are they captured yet? Are my children safe?"Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by L'Ola Kanz on Mar 4, 2007, 23:32
"Engineering type things? Now that's actually one job I've never done before, yes surprisingly there is one." She watched the smile on Marco's face drop just a little, "But don't worry. I got a few tips from a relative of mine, and with a little help from a friend."
"Friend?" Marco enquired
L'Ola grinned, "Sure, you talk to enough people you make enough friends to get any job done. Generally speaking it's a very friendly ship" *Although there are a few notable exceptions* she thought.
Marco looked a little bemused by this, he wasn't, after all, expecting a lesson in surviving on the Vesuvius. "Use your contacts then I guess."
She tapped her commbadge, "Kanz to Lieutenant Joughin. I'm trying to reconstruct the sickbay bio files any chance you could talk me through it?"
=/\= Umm, I've got 10 minutes if that helps. I can get you through as much as possible but you'll be on your own after that. =/\=
"Thanks that would be great."
From that point she blanked out the world around her. Knowing that time was of the essence she concentrated only on Sam's voice and the screen in front of her. He could really help her, that she knew, but she had to make sure she forgot about the rest of her life. Especially the one thing he reminded her of...
=/\= Okay, load up the main access screen. I need to know how much damage we're looking at. =/\=
"Okay... it's loading..." =/\= What are you doing in sickbay anyway? Knock yourself out again? =/\= he asked conversationally. "Honestly, no one respects rank anymore" she replied jokingly. "Right we're looking at 75% damage to civilian files, 80% to officer files. And yes I did."
There was a laugh from the other end of the comm line, =/\= Well done. You know I've never understood why they store the files seperately. Anyway, next you've got to... =/\=
The conversation continued, with L'Ola doing exactly as instructed, moving between consoles as required. When time permitted there was the odd bit of joking conversation. Strange how they had always managed that, given the nature of their acquaintance...
After 10 minutes they were getting close. =/\= And leave that to upload for a minute... Sorry Commander, I have to go now. Something important to run to =/\=
"I should be okay from here, thanks for your help Sam."
=/\= No problem, any time. Oh, and I'm sending something through to you that you might be interested in. Joughin out. =/\=
Marco looked up from his work again, trying to pretend it was the first time he'd looked in her direction since the start of her comm call. "Successful then?"
L'Ola nodded, "Yeah I'm almost finished." There was a beep from the computer to signal a message had been recieved. She opened the file up, and a huge weight lifted off her shoulders. For the first time in a while she smiled a genuinely content smile. "That guy is an angel, I swear."
"Something good happen?"
"And a half" she motioned for him to look at the display if he wanted. Sam had obviously been waiting to find out where she was before he could send it on.
'Forwarded by Lieutenant Samuel Joughin. Original message from Lieutenant Carrie Johnstone. Logs from Starfleet HQ intercepted. Location confirmed as of 2200 hours yesterday.'
A confused expression appeared on Marco's face, "I don't understand."
L'Ola almost laughed with happiness, "It means I don't care if the rest of this drill goes completely downhill. Lucy's safe!"
Half skipping she went over to the other side of sickbay to finish the procedure Sam had relayed to her. Things might finally start fixing herselves, she couldn't help thinking, as she stole a glance back at the new doctor...Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by LT.J.G. trey maverick on Mar 5, 2007, 19:19
Trey made his way to air lock, the hatch sealed shut. Trey was always fond of space walks and this was a rear opportunity for him and he was going to make the best of it. As he stepped out of the air lock and onto the hull of the ship he steered up into the vastness of space, he seemed to lose him self for a few moments. He was snapped back to the moment by commodore sonak’s voice over his com badge
=/\=Trey, what is the status on these terrorists, are they captured yet? Are my children safe? =/\=
=/\= am working on it ma’am =/\=
And with these words trey began to make his way along the ship’s hull to the bridge section. The trip was a short but slow one. It took him about ten minutes to make his way to the bridge emergency hatch. Trey slowly opened the hatch, there was a rush of air as the chamber decompressed. He made his way through the hatch and seemed to be placed between decks two and the bridge. Trey shut the hatch behind him and waited for the room to depressurize before taking off his EV. Suit. He then made his way to the end of the tiny corridor where there was a small ladder leading to a hatch on the ceiling, he slowly made his way up the ladder, and then cracked open the hatch a bit and picked through, the area was clear. It seem that the hatch lead right into the commodore’s ready room. He slow climbed out only to be welcomed by the commodore’s kids.
“Hey guys, are you all okay” he asked ‘yes’ nodded the oldest child
“Okay here’s what I want you to do for me” he continued “I want you to the door and tell the guard that you and you brother and sisters are hungry, can you do that”
“Yes” said the young Vulcan boy with a jovial voice
“Okay wait till I give you the signal” said trey as he mad his was to the left side of the door.
“Okay now” and with that being the signal his little solder made his way to the door. It slid open.
“Mr. Officer, my brothers and sisters are a bit hungry, could we please get something to eat?”
“No problem” said the guard as he walked over to the replicateor with the door sliding shut behind him. Maverick quietly made his way to the guard then grabbed his phaser from its holster
“Boom your dead” and the guard feel to the floor.
“Great job now could you look after your sibling, I just need to take care of a few things and then we can all go home”
Trey then made his way back to the door, he turned to the kids placed his index finger on his lips motioning of them to remain silent. The door slid open and trey went through phasers blazing. He fired his phaser at the commanding officer who was seated in the center chair. He then rolled to the left firing and hitting the officer seated at the conn followed by the one at the helm. Within second the entire bridge was cleared all had been tagged yellow. Trey then made his way back to the ready room where the kids were still seated
“All done, now we can go home”

In engingeering, Sonak had been trying her best to disengage the bomb before it'd go off, especially after the forcefields surrounding it for safety had failed operation. However just as the bomb was going off, it disappeared from view altogether.
The starting blast threw the Vulcan off her feet, but the resulting damage and heat never came. Opening her eyes, Sonak looked up at the warpcore in surprise, finding it completely undamaged and no sign of attached explosives.
=/\= maverick to commodore sonak I have a couple of kids that would like to say hello to there mother, and all hostiles have been eliminated =/\=
It seemed the marine drill was finally over then, though Sonak had no way of guessing how everyone else had performed. She knew she had quite likely failed this one, but then she was hardly a trained marine and had never enjoyed any basic marine training to begin with. "Acknowledged lieutenant, I will be right up."
Minutes later, and still bare-footed, Sonak rushed onto the bridge, taking her baby daughter from her eldest son. She glared at the marine officer who had taken up the role of terrorist. "If you have so much as harmed her in your game," she threated, but quick examination turned out all five children were unharmed and just glad to see their mother and get an opportunity to be on the main bridge.
"Lieutenant Maverick I want your report on my desk at 20:00 tonight." Seeing Logan stroll onto the bridge together with Fox, she walked towards them. "Commander Byrne, you are to start your scenario at your earliest opportunity." Sonak tapped her combadge. "Reckus to sickbay, this drill is over, I repeat current drill is over. Doctor D'Angelo and Commander Kanz report to the bridge."Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Marco D'Angelo on Mar 6, 2007, 8:02
L'ola left sickbay, leaving Marco to sort through the mounds of information she and her cohorts had uncovered.
"When are you going to release the prisoners." Alice's fingers made quotes in the air on "prisoners."
"Eh - they can stay there for all I care. They'll probably be waking up soon anyway. Semper Fidelis my rear, with all the trouble they gave me."
A few hours later, as D'Angelo had all the medical files reorganized, Jatan Reckus came in, followed by an entourage of kids; some being held by others.
"I would like to have them checked out. They seem fine, but after what Mr. Maverick put them through, I would like to be sure."
Marco sighed. "It seems I wasn't the only one inconvenienced here." He nodded toward the two in the bio beds, explaining to Jatan what had happened while he was off duty.
Examining the last child, "well, I think everything seems fine here. I would suggest you just teach your children to not talk to strangers." flipping the hypospray in his hand, he amended his statement, "or marines." the two doctors exchanged a short laugh. Although Marco was younger than Jatan, they seemed to get along well. Jatan had a hardened sense of humor, probably from living with a Vulcan for so long, but his tact was right on key. It was a joy working with him.
"Do you think we'll have to participate in the Engineering Drills? Your kids might be the reason to get me out of it for a day or two."
Jatan shook his head, still laughing. "Sonak told me you were testing her patience. I suggest you continue the drills. She would appreciate it, and it would do you good. I won't mention it to her that you suggest that." he winked. He really was a friend, although if he were more of a friend he would have gotten Marco out of the drills.
"I'm going to get some sleep here before Engineering Drills begin. I can't wait!" he twirled his finger, showing how stupid he thought the drills were.
"I'll relieve you at 0600 hours. Goodnight doctor."
"Goodnight Marco."Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commodore Sonak Reckus on Mar 6, 2007, 22:32
Sonak spent the rest of the afternoon in her readyroom, having gotten properly dressed first right after the marine scenario was over. The Vesuvius was still grounded pending a Starfleet investigation but so far the feedback on the drills run by her senior staff was positive, which made the Vulcan commodore feel somewhat better.
Soon, they would have to start their journey towards Earth, something she wasn't looking forward to for once. Usually when her ship visited Earth, she would visit her parents but now she doubted she would have the time for that.
Sighing, she picked up the next report then noticed this wasn't a crew report. It was, in fact, a message from Starfleet telling her that a new navigator was assigned to her ship. Recently graduated from the academy, Lieutenant junior grade Tovan came highly recommended. Smiling to herself, Sonak found herself wondering how this new Vulcan navigator would fit in with her oddly formed crew.
A knock on the door made her look up. "Enter," she called, as she put the report aside. To her surprise, the newly assigned officer was already present, and seemingly ready to start his new journey in his carreer. "Ah, you must be Lieutenant Tovan," she started, "welcome aboard the Vesuvius. Eager to start too I see, you have arrived before I was expecting you. Please, have a seat. Tell me, how was your trip from Conqueror?"
(Tovan)Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by tovan on Mar 6, 2007, 23:22
As the shuttle made it's approach towards the Vesuvius, Tovan took the oppurtunity to look over his new ship. He had read reports about the Somma-class ships but had never actually seen one, and found it to be an impressive ship. He had read that it was capable of Multi-Vector Assault Mode, and he was looking forward to dealing with the particular challenges of MVAM. Unfortunately, with the ship docked at starbase, he probably wouldn't be getting a chance to try piloting very soon.
He brought the shuttle in for a landing, went through post-flight checklist, then headed for his newly assigned quarters. After dropping off his gear, Tovan headed up to the bridge to report for duty. He knocked on the readyroom's door. "Enter," came the reply.
"Ah, you must be Lieutenant Tovan," Sonak started, "welcome aboard the Vesuvius. Eager to start too I see, you have arrived before I was expecting you. Please, have a seat. Tell me, how was your trip from Conqueror?"
"Satisfactory," he replied. "The shuttle performed adequately, although there is a minor imbalance in the warp core that should be attended to as soon as possible."
"I've read up on the latest status reports on the Vesuvius," Tovan continued, "and I noticed that we will be beginning an engineering drill shortly. I took several engineering courses at the Academy and am standing by to assist."
(Sonak) Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commodore Sonak Reckus on Mar 7, 2007, 22:32
Sonak nodded. "I am certain Commander Byrne will appreciate any assistance you can give him in keeping this ship in one, or rather three, parts," she answered, "though in this drill scenario he will be giving us a problem to solve, and knowing him he will make it very tough."
She smiled ever so slightly. "You see, my chief engineer and I do not get along very well, especially since he seems very bent on trying to destroy my ship at every opportunity he gets. Now, perhaps you would like to stop by sickbay first to drop off your medical records and submit to the compulsary medical scan? After that you can do as you please until your first shift starts. I am going to spend some time with my family after I am done going through these reports."
Sonak dismissed her new navigator with a nod of her head; it was only a matter of time before the next person would come in with a suggestion or complaint, or just wanting some small talk.

A couple of days after Lt. Maverick's drill, Logan sat in his office bouncing a ball off the far wall. Watching the MSD (Master System Display) board, he noticed a few oddities within the layout of the ship.
"Computer, can you overlay the space volume within the Spacedock area and isolate the lower Module of the ship and display on the screen on the "Pool Table"?", asked Byrne. Once the displays came up, he noticed a few areas within the volume that could withstand a detached vessel rotating on all axises. Running a few scenarios, he found that tis could be simulated on the holodeck.
Smirking, he saved the information into the data port in his right arm.
"Commodore Sonak, I am ready to assemble to the Conference Room for mission briefing. Hope I don't disapoint", stated Byrne into his Commbadge. <TAG Sonak>
Just as he sent this message, there was a huge jolt in the ship and the alarms went off. There were Redlines outlining all of the RCS (Remote Control System) thrusters surrounding the ship. Ripping the ship from it's mooring and sending it into a small rotaing spin into the side of the inner ring of the Starbase. <TAG Lt. Tovan / Comm. Sonak>Re: VES Mission: Drills! Ripping the ship from it's mooring and sending it into a small rotaing spin into the side of the inner ring of the Starbase.
Fox sat in his quarters as the ship jolted. Faintly he could hear alarms. He immediately left his quarters. In the corridors red blinking lights were visible. He quickly walked to the turbolift. "Bridge" he said, not much later he walked onto it.
Immediately he took his station. "Whats going on?" he asked the officer who stood at the station next to his. "I don't have a clue Commander." he replied. "The alarms suddenly went off."
Fox looked at his station, hoping sensors would show more of what was going on.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Marco D'Angelo on Mar 9, 2007, 9:14
Marco wasn't too surprised when the ship jolted. From the last few officers that had ran drills, the doctor was starting to expect incompetency. Apparently, from what he read while waiting for Commander Byrne's drill to start, the previous Doctor even failed his own drill! Marco had thrown that padd in a fit. "I should have stayed on that stupid freighter if this is the caliber of work I have to deal with."
The forcefields went down on the bio beds, leaving two angry marines free to move about. They had been there for 10 hours now, Marco having no reason to let them go, and Maverick not having the sense to retrieve them.
Thanks to L'ola, his systems were back and running smooth. Hopefully the latest jolt didn't hurt the files. Hopefully the latest jolt didn't hurt her either!
The two marines seemed to be cortically connected, because they both went after Marco without the need to discuss it with themselves first.
Marco had a good running start, leaving the malfunctioning doors in sickbay a few strides ahead of the two brutes. They were clearly unhappy, and although Marco had justified holding them to himself, he had not the ability to impart that concept unto his pursuers.
The doctor hid behind a bulkhead in the hallway, and hit his commbadge.
=/\= Doctor to Maverick =/\=
<Maverick>
=/\= Can you please call off your drill subjects. They have quite the temper right now, and I have a feeling that they are wanting to temper me! =/\=
Maverick responded, but not soon enough. One of the marines grabbed Marco by his neck and raised him a foot off the ground. The other laughed aloud, knowing that their own vigilante form of justice was about to be served.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commodore Sonak Reckus on Mar 9, 2007, 21:13
Sonak was thrown off her feet and banged her shoulder hard against her desk as she was trying to controll her fall. Wincing, she got back to her feet, not knowing she like every other staffmember was beamed to the holodeck just as the jolt occurred. Everyone continued as normal from their current positions, believing every situation was real.
Rubbing her shoulder, she emerged from her readyroom. "Engineering what is going on!" she called, then glared at her new CNO. "Tovan, why are we floating towards the dock exit?" she snapped as she sat down in the centre seat.
Beside her, Nick looked equally displeased with the situation. "I'll go see," he offered, "and you get that shoulder looked at." He cast her one of his no-argument looks that only he could give her.
The Vulcan nodded in response. "L'Ola, alert starbase that there may be an eminent collision danger, and sound the proximity alerts. Fox, get sensors back online. Tovan, see what you can do about stabilising the ship." She gazed after Nick as he sped into the turbolift. As Trey wasn't on the bridge, she assumed he'd also felt the jolt and was assembling his marines to be at the ready.
"L'Ola you have the bridge until I return." Minutes later she approached sickbay only to be nearly overrun by a frantic CMO who apparently was chased by two marines. "Enough!" she snapped, grabbing the young doctor by the collar while pointing at the two marines. "I said enough!" she roared as the marines still approached. "You two, report back to Lieutenant Maverick! We have a situation. You doctor, get back to sickbay. I require your asssitance. After that, we are going to the conference room as Commander Byrne was going to brief us on his scenario."
She shoved D'Angelo back into sickbay, while letting the two marines pass. "I am certain you felt the jolt. I fell and hurt my shoulder, please have a look at it." Sonak sat down on one of the biobeds and waited impatiently for the doctor to proceed. Right now her place was on the bridge and she wanted to get back there as soon as possible. As inertial dampeners started to fail while the ship rolled, Sonak started to feel a slight pitch in the deck. "This cannot be good," she murmured, "we are rolling and soon going to collide with the inside of this dock!"
ooc: please note that Bellicose is NOT a mushroom type starbase...Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by tovan on Mar 10, 2007, 1:39
Tovan was just stepping onto the turbolift when the jolt hit. He immediately stepped back onto the bridge, and made a beeline for the helm. He quickly scanned the status display.
Commodore Reckus rushed onto the bridge. "Engineering what is going on!" she called, then glared at her new CNO. "Tovan, why are we floating towards the dock exit?" she snapped.
"Attitude control has just gone haywire. Several of the thrusters just fired randomly, tearing us away from our moorings. I'm having difficulty restoring control."
As Sonak left for sickbay, Tovan set about regaining control of the ship. "Attempting to compensate for the spin with maneuvering thruster," he reported. Some of the thrusters didn't respond, while others fired wildly out of sync, only making the spin worse. Inertial dampeners were beginning to slip, and Tovan could feel the deck seem to tilt.
"Automatic RCS control is ineffective, switching to manual." His calm tone belied a certain growing agitation with the current predicament. If they didn't regain control of the ship soon, they would crash into the space doors, and Tovan doubted Starfleet would be happy with them for punching a hole in the Starbase.
Using the manual controls, Tovan slowly managed to bring the tumble to a controlled drift, but without computer control, he wouldn't be able to completely halt the Vesuvius.
He turned to L'Ola. "Commander, I suggest we use the tractor beam to lock on to the starbase and keep us stationary."

Grabbing for the console in front of him, Byrne punched a few buttons to isolate the problem and forward information to the Engineering Console on the Bridge. Re-establishing gravity control, Byrne raced upto the Bridge. "Lt. Tovan, sorry to meet you under these circumstances, but we need to alert the Starbase of imminent impact if we can't push the ship away from the Main Module of the base. I have already erected a tractor beam to 'catch' us, but the momentum of the Starbase's turning will throw us with them. And where is the Commodore?" <TAG Tovan> All members check the OCC...... Once he established that the main control relays from the Impulse engines was fused open causing all the the RCS modules to fire. Problem was that the plasma condiuts feeding the modules were firing in random intervals and it would take time to disable all of them in time. The other problem was that they wouldn't be able to get another ship close enough to stop the spin in time to avoid hitting the Main section of the base. But, he had a plan.......Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by LT.J.G. trey maverick on Mar 10, 2007, 23:35
Trey was seat at his desk writing up his overdue report on his scenario when a massive jolt scent him flying off his chair and onto the floor. He picked him self up and was about to hit his come badge when doctor de’angelo’s voice came screeching through
=/\= Doctor to Maverick =/\=
“What is it doc?”
=/\= Can you please call off your drill subjects. They have quite the temper right now, and I have a feeling that they are wanting to temper me! =/\=
“On my way doc”
Trey had completely forgotten about the two marines who were left in sickbay and worst of all one of them was a hot blooded klingon. As trey made his way down the hall towards the turbo life he once again found him self taking a nose dive onto the floor {what the hell is going on} he thought to him self. He decided to head to the bridge instead, the doctor would have to try and cope with the two marines for the time being. The turbo lift doors slid open and trey stepped onto the bridge, he began making his way to the helm when he noticed someone was already stationed there. Trey rushes over and yanked him out of the chair throwing him to the floor
“Who the hell are you and what the hell are you doing to this ship?” trey asked as he pulled and pointed his phaser at the young Vulcan lying on the floor

Tovan had his full attention on the panel in front of him, concentrating on using the fused RCS modules to attempt to steady the ship.
The chief engineer stepped out onto the bridge. "Lt. Tovan, sorry to meet you under these circumstances, but we need to alert the Starbase of imminent impact if we can't push the ship away from the Main Module of the base. I have already erected a tractor beam to 'catch' us, but the momentum of the Starbase's turning will throw us with them. And where is the Commodore?"
"She was injured and was forced to go to sickbay. I will attempt to raise the Starbase."
He was just opening hailing frequencies when the turbolift discharged a Marine. Suddenly, Tovan found himself flung backwards out of his chair and onto the floor. He looked up to see a phaser pointed at his head. He felt a quick burst of anger before analyzing it and dissipating it.
“Who the hell are you and what the hell are you doing to this ship?” the Marine demanded.
Tovan slowly drew himself back up. With a quick jolt to the wrist, he relieved the Marine of his phaser before he could react. "I am the Chief Navigation Officer of this vessel, and if you will allow me, I'm going to attempt to prevent this it from colliding with the starbase."
He pushed the marine out of the way, heading back towards his console. "May I remind you that attacking a fellow officer is a court-martial offense, and I will be reporting this incident to Commodore Sonak. Please take ops and inform the starbase that we have experienced total loss of control and are in danger of collision."
Tovan stepped past the marine, trusting that he would see the logic of the situation and do what he said.

He turned to L'Ola. "Commander, I suggest we use the tractor beam to lock on to the starbase and keep us stationary."
Fox also turned around away from his station. Looking at both L'Ola and Tovan. "Together with that we could activate an inverted tractor beam in the opposite direction to push us away from the spacedock to avoid us bumping against it."
L'Ola nodded "Its worth to try, do it." she replied.
Immediately Fox turned to his console again "i hope this works" he thought "this hasn't done much before, at least not by me". He pushed some buttons on his console and a tractor beam emerged, pushing the Vesuvius a bit away from the spacedock.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Marco D'Angelo on Mar 13, 2007, 5:33
Marco checked the Commodore's shoulder. "Nothing serious - I'll give you some pain medication... let me go get my hypospppprrraaay......" the doctor's tone was elongated when he reached for his hypospray and found it was missing.
"That's strange, I could have sworn I left it here earlier." He looked at Alice, who was just about to end her shift, and she remembered it being there as well.
"Hmm.. oh well, we'll have to inventory them when the drills are over."
Commodore Reckus was sitting on the edge of the biobed, waiting, when the doctor returned. "This won't hurt a bit." He pressed the emitter tip gently into her shoulder. She flinched when he pressed the spray into her bruised shoulder. "All set."
Marco thought twice this time about asking for a reprieve from the Drills. He had a feeling that if he asked one more time, it would be the last time he would be able to speak.
There was another loud and violent shutter throughout the ship. Marco fell on top of Commodore Reckus - in a rather awkward position. He immediately rolled off of her, as they both struggled to regain their composure.
D'Angelo now had his own injuries to treat. What seemed like a slight bump to the leg inflamed an old hoverball injury. Reaching for the hypospray, he found it was missing again.
"Did you touch that spray, Commodore?" She shook her head no. "That's odd." He made his way to the cabinet where the sprays were kept. The case was completely full.
"Something funny is going on here, Commodore." He explained what just happened to the Commodore, who looked concerned herself.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commander 1st Logan Byrne on Mar 13, 2007, 5:42
Once Commander Fox activated the inverse tractor beam, the ship seemed to be out of peril. Then almost immediately, the ships structural integrity field short-circuited and sent the ship into Red-Alert. Cutting off the alarm, Byrne communicated the situation to the Sickbay for the Commodore to hear, as well. Shunting the power to the dorsal impulse engines, he fired three quick bursts to stabilize the direction of the ship. Turning to Lt. Maverick, Byrne shot him a no-win question. "Lt., seeing your so gun happy, how would you like to be famous. I need a good pilot and a quick finger to possibly stop this ship and still keep us from scrapping paint with the Starbase. I need you to take the prototype shuttle and kind of play 'bumper cars' with the ship. No choice, suit up." <TAG Maverick> "Commander Fox, I need you to stop knocking us around, and please aim the tractor beam to the shield array and I think Mr. Maverick is gonna need something to bump against." <TAG Fox> "Commodore, I have the information to stop the RCS burns, but it's gonna take time." "May I remind you that attacking a fellow officer is a court-martial offense, and I will be reporting this incident to Commodore Sonak. Please take ops and inform the starbase that we have experienced total loss of control and are in danger of collision."
Trey eyed the Vulcan as he took his seat at the helm.
“What ever you say pointy and just so you know when this crisis is over me and you are going to have some words” trey then made is way to the ops console. As trey began to relay his message his console began shooting sparks just before it short-circuited
“I guess sending a message to starbase is out of the question now” he said as he turned towards commander Byrne
Logan shot him a very serious look.

“I would love to sir” answered trey. He then made his way to shuttle bay one, his first posting on the vesuvious was as it C.N.O and flying was always his strongest attribute. He made his way into the shuttle and shut the hatch behind him. He then made his way to the helm

Flexing her injured shoulder, Sonak silently commended the young doctor's performance. He was certainly different than the Ferengi doctor that had served so briefly on her ship, but he proved to be equally competent. As she stepped off the biobed, she felt the tilt of the ship and the odd tremors on the deck.
Both observations made her look around and scrutinize her surroundings. With a slight smile she then pointed up. "There are your two hyposprays doctor," she spoke softly, "they seem to have been polarised when the ship jolted, and are now stuck to the ceiling. Thank you for seeing to my shoulder doctor. When you have time, meet me in my office in an hour, we need to have a talk. Right now I want you to head to engineering and see if you can give them a hand. Time to give you some engineering insight into the quirks of this unique vessel."
Again she offered the young doctor a slight but encouraging smile. "Surely Admiral Elron told you that this vessel is one of a kind?" With a final nod she walked out of sickbay.
She had just stepped into the turbolift when she heard Logan's voice over her combadge. "Commodore, I have the information to stop the RCS burns, but it's gonna take time."
"Thank you commander," she replied, "I am on my way to the bridge. Please have a status report ready when I get there." Sadly the only report she was given upon arrival was that Commander Martens had been injured during the second jolt. The Vulcan knelt beside her first officer, quickly checking his vital signs. "Bridge to sickbay, medical emergency! Commander Martens has been injured."
That taken care of, she turned to Logan. "As of now you are assigned as acting first officer until Nick is back on his feet," she told the astounded chief engineer, "and I am still waiting for that status report!" Next she rounded on the new navigator. "Engage forward thrusters, get us an antithrust to keep us away from any wall or ship. L'Ola, Fox, any luck on sensors and raising Bellicose? Admiral Clark needs to be warned of eminent collissions! And where is Lieutenant Maverick?"
As SMO, it was Maverick's job to make sure the commanding officer stayed safe at all times, and thus in general his place was on the bridge, or whatever location his CO was going to be at where there might be danger. As she hadn't been given a status report yet, she couldn't know that Logan had sent him out on a shuttle.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commander 1st Logan Byrne on Mar 14, 2007, 3:18
Turning to the Commodore, Byrne shot her an 'I have things under control' look. Handing her his PADD, he stated," Here is my current status report, Lt. Tovan is handling the anti-thrust to the malfuntioning RCS thrusters, but we have no control over the ship as a whole. I have sent Lt. Maverick in the Ragnarock shuttle to position himself in between us and the Starbase, in the event of any collisions. I also have Commander Fox adjusting the tractor beam to synch with the shields on the shuttle as not to squish Lt. Maverick during manuveurs. And as far as Commander Martens, I think I can handle the job." With a semi-stunned return look, the Commodore took her seat easing into to it to avoid hitting her sore arm. "Commander Byrne, I need you to have a solid plan in my hand within the next few moments. This has to stop. I really don't think Admiral Clark wants his Starbase bumped in any way. And I want Lt. Maverick back at his post as soon as possible." With that, Logan went back to assume trying options to stabilize the overall ship.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Lucy Kanz on Mar 15, 2007, 21:41
<Just before the start of the engineering drill>
With her bag on her back and a spring in her step, Lucy stepped off the ship and onto the very familiar Starbase that she had once called home. It felt like a lifetime since her last visit there, and with everything that had gone on in between trips she was justified in thinking that.
She headed straight for one of the reception rooms, having already done her location research on the way in. During the short walk she smiled at everyone she passed, and tried to see if anything much had changed around the base.
As expected, the room was fairly full of people all looking very smart. There were quite a few people that Lucy didn't recognise, but it didn't take long for her to spot her targets in the corner. She snuck up on them. "Ah good, I made it in time."
The look of amazement on the faces that turned round to see her was priceless. "What the..." Pete started. "Teri!" Ed exclaimed. Sam merely sat there looking like several good dreams had come true all at once.
"I wasn't sure if I'd make it in time, so I didn't call ahead just in case. What's the hold up anyway?"
Ed laughed, "Umm personnel shortage!"
Lucy looked a little confused at this, but all was revealed to her as Josh came running through the doors wearing his duty uniform. "Sorry I'm late guys! Just literally got in" he managed to say between breaths. He stopped sharply, before continuing to walk slowly forwards alongside Pete.
The Starfleet Captain, an old friend of Pete's parents', who had been stood at the front smiled warmly at them. "All ready now?" The pair nodded, and the whole room turned round to watch the entrance.
After the final important person had made her way into the room, the Captain spoke to everyone. "We are gathered here today to witness the union between Pete Lorenzetti and Lara Qualtrough..."
Sam still hadn't stopped smiling in Lucy's direction.
After the ceremony was over, the reunited group of friends sat talking for a while. "Well I think that was very successful. I mean, once the best man finally showed up" Ed said teasingly.
Josh pretended to sulk for a moment. "It wasn't exactly my fault that we got diverted on the way back. I thought we were gonna be back a week ago."
"Sure, sure. Excuses, excuses. Of course, if you hadn't been late then Teri wouldn't have got here in time so..."
Lucy grinned, "Actually, yeah. I owe you one for that."
As it got later in the day the bar they were in started to fill up, which reminded Lucy of the time that was passing. "I have to go check in with someone else for a bit. Will you guys be by the docking ports before I leave tomorrow?"
Ed nodded, "Yeah we'll be there. Have fun on the Ves!" He looked across at his best friend. Normally this much silence from Sam would be major cause for concern, but in this case he had a pretty good idea what was going on.
"Computer, is the status of the room still the same?" "Affirmative" "Thank you"
Lucy pressed on the door chime.
"It's open" came a slightly muffled voice from inside.
She stepped through and tried not to laugh at L'Ola, who was flat out on the floor trying to reach something from underneath a chair. "Hey, guess who!"
There was a shriek of delight from under the chair, followed by a clonk sound when the security chief tried to sit up (obviously forgetting where she was). But soon enough she had wriggled out and was standing up, giving her sort-of daughter a crushing hug. After a while she stepped back and looked at Lucy's face, which showed an identical smile to her own. "What on Quo'nos are you doing here?"
"I finished up what I was doing on Earth and decided to drop by before I start my new job."
L'Ola thought about this for a second, "And what job are you doing next, miss multi-talented."
Lucy took in a deep breath. "Well" she started, "Central Security decided that I need to be under the watch of a Commander and get trained in a load of Starfleet things. Which is all fine, but I wanted a job where I could play with computers and help other people to play with them too."
"So...."
"So I'm off to the Academy" she grinned even more at the approving look on L'Ola's face, "I get to teach engineering, and a few of the other instructors are going to get me up to scratch on the training that Security were worried about."
"Now that sounds like the perfect job for you. But you know, before you start we'd better make sure your reflexes are still up to scratch."
Lucy pretended to think for a moment, "Tennis?" she asked.
L'Ola nodded, "Of course!" She didn't care that she had reports to write and a schedule to create. Lucy was there with her and she would enjoy it for the short time it would last.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Marco D'Angelo on Mar 16, 2007, 7:05
"Hello? Anyone?" Marco entered engineering, which seemed to be abandoned at the moment. "Commodore Reckus said I was needed here."
Nobody answered. Growing a bit impatient, Marco tapped his badge. "Commander Byrne. Are you in need of my assistance?"
Upon acknowledgment, D'Angelo made his way up to the bridge. This engineering drill, whatever it was, was a relief in the sense that he hadn't been injured finally. He came in during the security drill, but his first real drill was the science drill, where he fell into the lake of heavy water. Then his wrist was stomped on by a brute of a marine in the marine drill. Aside from the occasional jolt from the ship clearly hitting something, the doctor was doing alright for the engineering drill. The only engineering he did was to regain the medical files, and he didn't even do that! L'ola did.
Marco sighed. L'ola. There was a character alright. He never could gauge her reaction to him, however.
"Computer, locate Jatan Reckus." He had forgotten to leave someone in charge of main sickbay when he left, but the computer confirmed Jatan's presence. The man was a god-send, especially raising as many kids on a Starship that he and the Commodore had. It was a wonder that he didn't burst from all the responsibilities.
Marco, on the other hand, had no ambition of starting a family. He found children rather annoying. In fact, Marco had no ambition of committing fully to anyone or anything. Starfleet was by far the first commitment he had ever made, and after the last few weeks, he was starting to regret that decision. At least the Commodore was understanding.
Ah, the Commodore. She wanted to see him later. Hopefully it was not going to be yet another reprimand for avoiding the Drills. She was not cold and calculating as Marco first thought, probably a built in bias that Marco's brain had against Vulcans. She was calculating, but not cold. In fact, Marco had seen her crack a smile on multiple occasions. And like any Captain, she had complete control of her faculties at all times. Perhaps he wouldn't be in trouble after all, lest she inform him of the problem earlier. He would have to wait to find out.
The ship made a minor jolt. The inertial dampers probably gave out again.
Reaching the bridge, Marco found Logan. "Commodore Reckus said you needed me. Anything in particular? Or should I start working on the bruises you all have been creating?"Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commander 1st Logan Byrne on Mar 17, 2007, 0:09
Taken aback by the sudden appearance of the Doctor, he nodded in the direction of the Commodore, with a hush look. Tapping into the command protocols, Byrne was able to access the primary EPS conduits in the Discordia module to engage a seperation procedure.
"Commander Byrne to Lt. Maverick, I am disengaging the lower module to assist in stabilizing the ship. I need you to place your shuttle below it to allow it to clear the main vessel to avoid collision." <TAG Trey>
"Lt. Tovan, I need you to synchronize the timing of the blasts and come up with an anti-firing solution." <TAG Tovan>
Whispering to the doctor, "Marco, sorry to be so informal, but I need you to place yourself behind the Commodore with your hypospray. When I say engage, knock her out. We're gonna warp the upper part of the ship to avoid hitting the Starbase, and by then Tovan should be able to control the path of the ship. And then the Engineering crew should have the RCS control system fixed. Can I count on you?", asked Byrne. <TAG D'Angelo>Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commodore Sonak Reckus on Mar 17, 2007, 0:31
The Vulcan commodore listened as her chief engineer started issuing instructions, then raised an eyebrow as she overheard him ordering Discordia to be detached from the ship. There wasn't much room to maneuvre in the dock, and detaching a module and allowing it to float free would reduce their maneuvring capabilities. However, they didn't seem to be in the dock anymore, but rather underneath it and tumbling towards the base out of control.
It was already bad enough that they were going to damage the starbase, breaking up the ship in more parts was only going to increase that risk. However, she could see that there were little remaining options, so she said nothing. She nodded towards the CMO as he walked up to her, noticing he had a hypospray at the ready.
Since she had seem Logan talk to the young doctor, she assumed he had called D'Angelo up to look after her as she'd injured herself in the earlier jolts. And as it was natural for medics to carry a hypospray at all times, she didn't see any harm or danger into it, especially not when he positioned himself behind her.
"Ensign Tovan, the helm is yours," she ordered, "as soon as this maneuvre Commander Byrne is planning is executed, I want you to exert maximum thrust, but give the tractorbeam an antithrust if we get to close to starbase."
Sonak looked up at D'Angelo. "As soon as this is done, you and I are going to have a little talk." She gave him a small but reassuring smile. "I may have a surprise for you doctor." She fixed her gaze on the main viewscreen again, wondering how she had missed the fact that they were no longer in the starbase, and how it was possible they had fallen out. She glanced sideways at Byrne, wondering how he had noticed and how he would explain how this had been possible.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by tovan on Mar 17, 2007, 21:58
Tovan had managed to change the trajectory to fall out of drydock, but the Vesuvius was still dangerously close to the station. Fortunately, he had a bit more room to maneuver now. As he manpulated the controls, he heard Logan outling a plan to seperate the Discordia module to make the ship easier to maneuver.
"Lt. Tovan, I need you to synchronize the timing of the blasts and come up with an anti-firing solution."
"Aye, sir." he relplied, setting about the calculations. He overheard a mention of sedation by Logan, but a jolt drowned out the rest of the conversation. He made the last calculations, then turned back towards the COE and the Commodore.
"Solution is ready. Ready to begin on your mark."
"Ensign Tovan, the helm is yours," Sonak ordered, "as soon as this maneuvre Commander Byrne is planning is executed, I want you to exert maximum thrust, but give the tractorbeam an antithrust if we get to close to starbase."
Tovan returned his attention to his console. "Engage," Commander Bryne ordered. There was a clunk as the module seperated, and Tovan executed the burn, pushing the rest of the ship away, and orienting the ship for full velocity. Suddenly, he heard the hiss of a hypospray, and the Commodore was down. He was about to call for sickbay, when the remote proximity alarm went off.
"Commander! The Discordia is out of control and is heading towards the base. Lt. Maverik is chasing it, but he doesn't have enough time to catch it."
"Put a tractor beam on it," Bryne replied
"We need all of the energy we have to keep us away from the base. I can get us away and free, but we may not have enough time to stop the Discordia."Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commander 1st Logan Byrne on Mar 18, 2007, 2:38
As the order was issued the lower module was disconnected and sent into a slow trajectory towards the drydock.
"Lt. Maverick, she's all yours. Push into the docking area, the base will take over.", yelled Byrne. <TAG Trey>
"Lt. Tovan, just keep what is left of the ship together and engage warp drive on my command. I need to get us clear of the base. Once we do that, I want you to divert all of the power from the RCS's and push it back into the impulse engines and vent from there. That should get us under control." <TAG Tovan>
Nodding to D'Angelo, he started the warp sequence to flush the power from the EPS conduits and restart the cores. Once the board became green, he yelled,"Engage warp now."
Half standing up in pain, the Commodore yelled,"What?" And with that she was injected and slumped into her chair with D'Angelo easing her into her place. Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by LT.J.G. trey maverick on Mar 18, 2007, 21:14
As trey exited the shuttle bay he was able to see the severity of the situation for what it was.
“Wow this is messed up man. Oh well, time to do what I do best FLY” =/\= maverick here, I await the detachment of the lower module =/\=
=/\ copy that maverick, detaching lower module now =/\=
Trey kept his eyes on the module as it was released. As the rest of the vesuvious pushed away from it the force of her thrust sent the lower module Discordia flying off towards the starbase. Trey was belly able to dodge her as she veered pass him.
“Oh boy this is not good”
Trey sent his shuttle chasing after Discordia. This did not look good, the module was moving fast very fast and at the rate she was going she would impact the starbase in approximately 3 minutes. Trey’s thought processors were now working overtime “GOT IT!” he shouted
“Computer I need you to transfer all power to the impulse engines and on my mark give me maximum burn…. NOW!”
This sent shuttle fly but it was not enough “dam still need more speed, okay in the immortal words of the great action man [check it out dial it in and amp it up] ok we’re taking this baby to warp, on my mark warp one.” Trey set the computer to send the shuttle into for 30 nano seconds “MARK!” and the shuttle went into warp. The shuttle dropped out of warp ahead of the module but deadly close to the starbase “all power to reverse thrusters now” and at the same time he put the shuttle into a reverse 180 half corkscrew u-turn. His high octane maneuvers were a little to much for a few of the shuttles systems, and they began to spark and burn out.
“Logan’s not going to like this” trey turned his attention to the module which was now headed straight towards him. He transferred all power to the shuttles tractor beam and fired at the module. This added more strain t the shuttles systems and more of here panels began to blow
“Come on baby hold together we’re almost there” the module Discordia came to full stop mere inches away from him and the star base.
=/\=maverick to Commander Logan alls well sir I got her am heading back now trey out=/\=
Trey and the shuttle slowly made there way back to the vesuvious’s docking bay Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commander 1st Logan Byrne on Mar 19, 2007, 4:39
As Maverick managed to get the lower module into the docking area, he radioed that he was ready to rendevous with the main vessel. Once verifying that the Discordia Module was secrued by the base, Byrne shot the main ship into warp to stabilize the rolling of the ship.
Assisting Lt. Tovan in the computations to shut off the power flow to the RCS modules, Logan was able to calm down the doctor after stunning the CO.
Once the main vessel hit warp 1.75, Tovan was able to shunt the plamsa from the RCS thrusters back into impulse engines, thus venting the energetic plasma into space. Thus allowing the ship to return back the Bellicose to redock with the Discordia Module.
Mission saved.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commodore Sonak Reckus on Mar 19, 2007, 20:26
Sonak woke up sitting in her own command chair, not realising she'd been beamed back to it from the holodeck while she was unconscious. The last thing she remembered was the ship being adrift but when she looked around everything seemed to be normal. Beside her sat Logan, evidently reading over his scenario report. When he noticed she'd woken up he cast her a sheepish grin then held out the PADD to her.
Instead of returning the smile, she cast him a dark glare. "I could have you court martialed for that commander," she commented, her tone threatening, "you and Doctor D'Angelo both. As it is..." She glared up at the doctor, who had remained on the bridge. "Readyroom," she said shortly, preceding the young doctor into her private office.
Once in there, she motioned for D'Angelo to take a seat. "As I just told Byrne, I could have your pips for that action during Byrne's scenario. As it is, Starfleet seems to have evaluated you enough and decided to promote you from acting ensign straight to lieutenant junior grade. While I deem your most recent action questionable given your Hippocratic oath....I do agree with their assessment." She reached over and attached a gold pip next to the already present black one. "Congratulations lieutenant."
With that, she dismissed him. Though Nick was still indisposed, she still needed to run their own scenario. And now that she browsed through her messages, she also noted new orders had come in; they were to proceed to Earth for questioning regarding their most recent mission and the damages sustained during it. The Vulcan smiled to herself; her scenario could work quite well with their trip to Earth. They had some time to get there so they could travel slowly for the first part.
"Lieutenant Tovan, plot a course to Earth," she ordered as she emerged from her office, "and I want you to plot and fly it by hand. No computers, understood?" Then she turned to L'Ola. "Security protocols are to be maintained by hand also. Pretend you have no computers or phasers to work with. All you have is hand-to-hand combat and old fashioned weaponry; anything your staff can come up with as long as it is not computer based."
Her smile widened as her gaze settled on Logan. "No warp flight commander, you are to shut down the warpcore. Then I want you to report to the holodeck. We are going sailing." She now glanced around at her entire present senior staff, all but Nick Martens. "Some of you may remember our mission as sailors, others may not. However we are going to use a steam sailing vessel. I wish to find out how much you remember or know about old fashioned craftmanship. Fox, I am once more banishing you to the galley. Use your scientific knowledge to come up with ways to prepare our meals. L'Ola, you are to maintain safety aboard the vessel as I have just suggested to you. Tovan, you are to be at the wheel, steering by hand using nothing but your compass and other medieval equipment."
Now that she had given science, helm and security a task, all that was left were her smo, cmo and chief engineer. "Logan, your task is to see to it that the vessel remains seaworthy. You are to use equipment of the timeperiod, you are forbidden to cheat and use any tools from our current era. Trey, you are to assist L'Ola in keeping the ship safe from intruders, but most importantly you are my bodyguard. We are of course expecting trouble otherwise it would not be a drill. D'Angelo, your task is most important. I wish to see how much of a country doctor you are. You are to pack a standard doctor's case, late 20th century equipment. No tricorders, no scanners."
She glanced around again. "Report to the holodeck in one hour. Anyone being late will be reprimanded."Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Marco D'Angelo on Mar 20, 2007, 6:58
Promoted to Lieutenant. He surely wasn't expecting that, after knocking the Commodore unconscious. It took a lengthy explanation, and a few questions from the Commodore herself, to ascertain that it was Logan who had switched hyposprays. "I thought I was fixing your shoulder again. Logan told me to stand behind you, and told me that I couldn't administer the pain reliever until the ship was stabilized. He said that you weren't showing signs of pain.. but... but.." Marco was ashamed. It would be the last time he let Logan suggest anything to him again, especially in the field of medicine.
Now, leaving the bridge, the Doctor returned to his own office. "This drill seemed ridiculous, if not useless. The odds of them being sent back in time, or on some primitive planet, were remote at best. Not wanting his Commanding Officer to formulate a reprimand, however, he complied.
=/\= Replicate a scalpel, twentieth century style, a package of adhesive bandages, some... =/\= he checked his padd, =/\= ..gauze??? =/\= the computer beeped, understanding the statement even though D'Angelo did not, =/\= and iodine. =/\=
The items were replicated. It looked like a pile of junk.
"It's a wonder anyone ever survived back then," Alice said, passing by. "They didn't even have the simplest of subdermal transfusors, or dermal regenerators."
The Doctor sat down with his new tool set, and got to work trying to master the technique of using them on the replicated torso before the holodeck simulation began.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commander 1st Logan Byrne on Mar 20, 2007, 8:03
As the Ready Room was emtpying, Logan quietly leaned near the Commodore, and whispered," You have a date, mops and brushes to swab the decks, but dinner will be in your stateroom?"
Sonak had talked to her mate about Logan's persistence in flirting with her, and together they had decided it would be interesting to see where it would lead. At least from a medical point of view, and it would be interesting to see her own reactions. Jatan would tell her when he thought she'd go too far, as she was a poor judge of her own emotional responses off late.
She nodded at the chief engineer. "Very well," she answered, "as long as you will be the perfect gentleman. One hour commander, do not be late."
Grabbing his PADD, he brushed up on his 19th century boating skills.trying to engage in a realistic boating experience on the holodeck. Plus, he still had to convince Fox to make a nice dinner for the Commodore, per his instructions.
Heading back to his quarters, he stopped by the reclamation facility to obtain a life preserver for the maiden voyage of the ship the Commodore would have to name at a later date, to make it a real voyage. One thing he knew was that all ships of the time period had large circular things with the ship's name on it.
But still he pondered what Sonak had in store for him seeing he just had her tranked on the Bridge of the scenario. Only problm was that he had to purge the database on the holodeck to assist with the command of the CO in setting up the ship scenario.
Stopping by the Sickbay, he stopped by to congradulate the doctor on his promotion. As soon as he entered the Sickbay, he ducked a flying PADD being thrown in his direction. Looking up, he saw the doctor red-faced stomping towards him yelling about how he felt he got set up on the Bridge. Calming him down, he reminded him of the little trist that he went thru with Lt. Maverick's scenario and how he was to a little payback. And who better with, then the CO. <TAG D'Angelo>
With that, he headed back to his quarters, he grabbed his kit bag for a long voyage.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by LT.J.G. trey maverick on Mar 21, 2007, 7:07
Leaning against the wall of the briefing room trey listened to his XO go over there duty roster for there next scenario. Trey could hardly wait to see what there commanding officer had up her sleeves. As the commodore handed out there duties trey could not help noticed that he was placed on security duty along side Lola Kanz, at this very moment he saw his life flash before his eyes. This defiantly did not seat will with the young marine. Kanz seemed to harbour some hostilities towards him and he had no reasons why. He felt that he should protest but instead kept it to him self. After there briefing was done he mad his way to the ships library to research on nineteenth century sailing
The doors to the library slid open and he walked in.
“Hello lieutenant and what brings you here” came the voice of the ships librarian
“Hey Tsalea how’s it going, am just here to do a lil research on 19th century sailing”
“Do you need any assistance” she asked in her emotionless Vulcan voice
“No if I do I WILL ask you”
“As you wish” she replied as he made her way back to her deck.
It didn’t take him long to find what he was looking for, as he continued reading it became apparent that this was going to be fun and a lot harder than he first thought. He had never really done any sailing, wave riding yes but never sailing. His time piece began beeping
“Dam, am late, the commodore is going to have my head for this” he said as he rushed out the door.
Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by tovan on Mar 21, 2007, 10:15
As Tovan left the briefing room, he reflected on the Commodore's orders. Plotting the course without computers wouldn't be a problem, just slightly slower. The journey would take quite some time with no warp drive, however. Very well, he thought, orders were orders, even if they were not logical. As he finished plotting the course, he contacted one of the junior helm officers.
"You are to take the helm while I am running the simulation in the holodeck. Be advised that computer assistance is not permitted and the warp core will be offline." The ensign looked puzzled, but obeyed. "You are to contact me if there is a problem."
He grabbed a padd and headed for the turbolift, absorbing information on old-style celestial navigation and helm control. He found the whole concept of sailing illogical. There would seem to be no situation in a Starfleet officer's duties where he would be made to steer an ocean vessel. The time could be much better spent on more drills, or attendance to duties. Tovan had looked forward to serving under another Vulcan, but so far was disillusioned by Sonak's tendecy to lapse into emotionalism. He recognized that not every Vulcan could achieve full kolinahr, but most could at least follow the path of logic.
After reading through the information on navigation, and running a few simulations to test that information. He made his way towards the holodeck. Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Fox on Mar 21, 2007, 12:56
She glanced around again. "Report to the holodeck in one hour. Anyone being late will be reprimanded."
Fox remembered the sailing mission all too well. "So the galley again." he thought. "Not much science knowledge needed in there. A good cooking book would suffice."
He snapped out of his thoughts when Sonak ordered to report to the holodeck in one hour and acknowleged to be there. "She didn't say i couldn't take one with me." he thought and left his station to get one in his quarters.
In his quarters he walked to his bookshelfs to look for his cooking books. Some he skipped because they descibed how to prepair meals with modern tools. Finally he found an quite old book, looked through it and smile. "This will do." he said to himself and closed it again.
He asked the computer for the time and heard he still had time for a quick cup of coffee and ordered it at the replicator. He took the cup and sat down on a chair, taking a sip from the warm coffee. "I wonder what we're going to do in the holodeck." he thought, while he sat there.
After some time, after finishing his coffee, he got up again and left his quarters to report to the holodeck. He entered it 5 minutes before the hour which was set by Sonak was over and saw most were there already.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by L'Ola Kanz on Mar 21, 2007, 23:11
Sailing... now that brought back a few memories. In fact it would make a nice change to the high tech drama that had been going on recently. As for the instructions to keep things manual, that would just be an interesting challenge. She enjoyed practising the martial arts that she had learnt as a child, so defense without a phaser came naturally to her.
L'Ola realised just in time that she was still wearing her uniform. While it was practical in most circumstances, she could think of better things to be wearing for this particular task. Had to be something good for deck work, and nothing that would stop her kick-punching. But there was no harm in picking something that looked good at the same time.
For once she cut the timing a little too fine, but thanks to a sprint half way across the ship she arrived outside the holodeck with 30 seconds to spare. Hopefully she'd have time to get her breath back before the fun started...Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commodore Sonak Reckus on Mar 21, 2007, 23:34
Fox and L'Ola were the last ones to arrive and once again Sonak wondered if her two veterans would ever manage to not cut it so close on arriving just in time. Shaking her head and smiling to herself she decided they'd probably never learn, and probably even took some fun in doing it.
Taking in the discomfort of her crew, she noticed that few of them were carrying PADDs. "Leave them at the door," she told them brusquely, then turned her back on them, walking from the shore onto the large sailing vessel that was waiting for them. The fun would begin now. "Tovak take the helm," she told the Vulcan navigator, "Logan take the foresail, L'Ola and Trey take the main sail. Fox, get down to the galley and show us what you can manage with little supplies. D'angelo, follow me, we are going to inspect your infirmary, or what will pass for it. I see you have come prepared, very good doctor."
Before preceding her doctor below deck, she turned back to glance up at Tovan. "Take us out lieutenant, set course for open sea." The Vulcan commodore glanced around in the somewhat smudged room, suppressing a smile as she saw the doctor's look of sheer disdain. "It is clean," Sonak decided after a quick inspection, "just somewhat greased but it looks to be clean enough. I am going back up to the deck."
What most of her newer senior staff didn't know was that despite being Vulcan, Sonak loved to be in the water, and loved sailing. However this was an entirely new scenario in which she had programmed a few items of which she wouldn't know the result either. No sooner had she entered the deck, or cries for help came from the port side of the ship. "Get them aboard," Sonak ordered, looking over the side of the ship to see a small rowing vessel, half under water with five people aboard.
"Welcome aboard the..." Sonak started, but she never got to finish her sentence. She was roughly pushed aside by the largest male of the group and she slipped on the wet deck, falling down hard. The five men pushed their way to mid-deck then aimed their weapons at the stunned Vesuvius crew.
"Separate the men and women," the tallest barked, then noticed there were only two women aboard. "Belay that," he added, walking towards Trey. "You, who is in charge here!"
"I am," Sonak spoke up before her SMO could answer. She took a step forward, hoping D'Angelo and Fox would have the sense to remain below deck. "This is my vessel and you have some nerve. Tovan, come hard about! L'Ola, Trey let the ropes go, Logan release the foresail!"
She hoped her orders would throw their captors off-balance and two were indeed knocked overboard by the mainsail. The remaining three however became more determined and one grabbed Trey and twisted his arm behind his back. "Take us back to port!" he ordered, "we're taking over the ship."Re: VES Mission: Drills! Judging the swing of the foresail, Logan managed to knock a few of the intruders off the bot, but he had to think quick to rescue Trey without escalating the situation. Not that he thought of bailing out on the Commodore, he felt that he would of much better help assisting the command staff from a distance. With that, he side stepped and dropped below decks to join forces with Commander Fox.
As he headed for the galley, he kept hearing the scuffiling od boots on the decks above as the crew seemed to be rounded up. Trying a s not to make alot of noise as he made his way aft. Just wishing that he had his phaser handy, but he knew that he had to think 19th century on this one.
He had a date to keep.....Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Fox on Mar 22, 2007, 9:46
"Fox, get down to the galley and show us what you can manage with little supplies.
Fox nodded and went below deck, going to the galley as Sonak had ordered. When he came there he looked around it. "It's smaller than last time." he thought and didnt really like how it looked.
First thing he did was rearrange all the cooking tools on the racks and cabinets. After a little doing that he smiled. "Thats a bit better." he thought and took some of the tools and a saucepan to prepair something for the rest of the crew.
Just as he had set the pan with water ready, he felt the ship take a sharp turn, making the pan fall on the floor. "Oh great." he thought seeing the wet floor. "Whats going on again now." He wanted to go to the deck, but had to clean the mess first.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commodore Sonak Reckus on Mar 23, 2007, 20:37
Sonak shook her head, indicating to Tovan that he wasn't to comply. She knew Trey could stand his own and didn't need her support. On the other side of the deck, L'Ola stood calmly observing the scene before her, completely ignoring the pirate that was holding his weapon aimed at her.
The pirate captain bared his teeth at the Vulcan commanding officer, taking a few threatening steps towards her until they were standing a bare few centimeters apart. His breath smelled of alcohol and the smell of his clothes assaulted her senses, but she never flinched nor wavered her gaze. "You are not getting this ship," she repeated, standing her ground.
From the corner of her eyes she saw Logan slip below decks, hopefully going to warn the doctor and Fox. She nodded ever so slightly and his reaction told her he'd seen it. The pirate however kept his eyes on her, peering at her with interest. "I already have this ship," he answered, a smile tugging at his lips, "I have this ship, I have her crew, and I have her commanding officer."
Sonak did flinch when he raked the back of his hand over her cheek and she pulled away. She shivered as old memories surfaced and as she had hoped, the pirate took it to mean she was cold. "I'm escorting the lady below," he told his accomplices, "keep them together and make sure they don't do anything stupid." He turned to his prisoner. "My lady," he mocked, "let me be your escort."
Without protest, Sonak preceded him below, knowing her remaining crew would be ready by now. And indeed they were met by Fox who was brandishing a frying pan and Logan, who looked as threatening as ever. The doctor remained on the background, looking anxious and worried. "Escort indeed," Sonak commented as she struggled herself free from his grip, "you are outnumbered four to one."
The pirate forcefully shoved her away and she careened into Fox, causing them both to fall down in a tangle. Meanwhile, Logan charged the distracted pirate, but he wasn't fast enough, and was at the disadvantage because he was unarmed. The pirate had drawn a rusted and dirty blood crusted dagger and he waved it about with expert ease, daring Logan to attack.
Seeing his CO down, anger overcame caution and Logan charged with a roar. The pirate sidestepped and thrust his arm forward; his blade encountered minimal resistance as it slid between Logan's ribs, just below the heart. He gave a quick yank and his blade came free. However he had only brief time to be pleased with his deed for D'Angelo rushed up to him and jammed an empty syringe in his neck, filling his bloodstream with nothing but air.
Meanwhile, Sonak and Fox had gotten back to their feet and were now kneeling beside Logan. "Marco!" Sonak called, waving the young doctor over, "take care of him!" She turned to Fox, motioning at his pan. "Do you have any more of these?"Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by tovan on Mar 24, 2007, 23:53
Tovan watched as the captain took his captain down below. He knew there were several crewmembers down there, and the commodore would likely use that to her advantage. Meanwhile he had two pirates to deal with himself, with possibly more coming in at any time. As he appraised the situation, he noticed the man covering L'Ola seemed to be more emotional than the other. Nobody was covering him, but he was steering, so they probably wouldn't consider him a threat.
"Bring us around," one of the pirates ordered.
"No." was Tovan's reply.
The jittery one stepped towards him. "Do it, or I'll shoot you."
"Unless you can steer this ship yourself, I would advise against that." Actually, Tovan calculated that he could let the wheel go for a few seconds without the ship losing too much control.
"Fine, then I'll shoot her." As the pirate turned, Tovan nodded at Trey, then launched himself at the pirate. Unfortunately, he tripped as he flew, crashing into his enemy, but not able to gain control. As the wheel spun wildly, Tovan managed to knock the dagger away, and it slid into the sea. Suddenly, he was on his back, the pirate being stronger than he had expected. Another jolt, and Tovan suddenly found himself in the water, with the ship floating away.
Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by L'Ola Kanz on Mar 25, 2007, 1:42
L'Ola was beginning to suspect that Sonak was deliberately pairing her with Trey as often as possible to try to make them get along better. This suspicion was partly responsible for her renewed determination to keep the feud going a while longer. The fact that the guy just plain annoyed her was starting to lose importance.
But whether she liked it or not, the jobs had to be done. And setting sails wasn't such a bad task to be given. She carefully set to work on the ropes and was getting into the swing of things when she had to stop to help the rescuers.
When their guests stated their real intentions, L'Ola's eyes lit up a little. This could actually be a fun challenge. As instructed, she let go of the rope to the mainsail, before quickly diving out the way. The manouvre had more of an affect than she expected it to, but it still left several strong guys standing guard.
This was one of those situations where looking small and harmless was very very handy. While there was no doubting the fact that she was small, L'Ola knew she had the ability to take them out. But their captors didn't need to know that. In fact the longer they saw her as a weak girl the better.
So she chose to ignore the gun that was pointed in her direction, and instead tried to analyse the situation. This was no time for hot-headedness. It was a time for clear thinking and team work.
Unfortunately her fellow officers seemed to have other ideas, and the string of fights that broke out all ended predictably quickly. L'Ola sighed inwardly and tried to stay patient. Something would happen soon enough to give them an edge.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commander 1st Logan Byrne on Mar 25, 2007, 4:12
(Short post, as I am bleeding).... Shaking that the holodeck safety protocols had been cut off, Logan hit the deck hard. In pain, Logan watched as the pirate hit the floor after him, he then gave Fox the thumbs up. Turning to his good side, he flinched as the doctor grabbed him to decern the extent of the damage to his wound. As Commodore Sonak and Commander Fox sped to the galley for more 'weapons', D'Angelo forcefully propped him up against the bulkhead to get a better light on his stab wound. Only problem, the only medicine that could heal the possible infection was in the what ever would be considered Sickbay on this battered vessel. Unfortunetly, he was now at the mercy of the new doctor. <TAG D'Angelo>Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Marco D'Angelo on Mar 25, 2007, 5:47
Logan's chest was gushing blood at an ungodly rate. The doctor clamped the hole in the ventricle created from the stab wound with the pliers. It was a completely mechanical tool, but the doctor performed excellently.
Logan was taken into better light. "This will be infected soon, if we do not treat it. This wound opened up your peritoneal cavity- if we do not give you antibiotics soon, you will not survive." The doctor tried to transport him to sickbay, but of course, the computer was not responding. Whatever knocked out the safety protocols must have knocked out more than just that.
The doctor was about to put a cool rag on the engineer's head, when the rag fell through his hand. Logan looked a bit surprised, but passed out before he could question. Doctor D'Angelo flickered a few more times, and finally disappeared.
------------ Earlier, in sickbay ------------
"Noone will know the difference - just give me a hand." Marco pleaded, but Alice wasn't going to be a part of this. If the doctor wanted out of the drills, he was going to have to do it himself.
"I have hologram training, but I want to get this right. It's not easy to program, let alone reprogram."
"I am not going to help you, doctor. Please don't ask again." Alice left in a huff.
Marco threw down the 20th century form of bandages. "I'll just have to it myself then."
Marco opened the EMH file for the ship. It contained three separate EMH entities, one for each module of the ship. Marco chose one at random and started running through the code. A few minutes later he was inputting a voice sample, and stepped over to the bio bed to get a bio-scan. The image on the computer, afterward, showed Marco D'Angelo... the holographic D'Angelo.
Commodore Reckus, a few hours later, called the crew to the holodeck. =/\= I'll be there in a moment. =/\=.
Marco walked down to the holodeck entrance. He walked in, and almost immediately pressed a button on the tricorder he was carrying. He was beamed to sickbay, and the EMH, reprogrammed to look, act, react, and perform like Doctor D'Angelo, took his place. Nobody was the wiser.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commodore Sonak Reckus on Mar 26, 2007, 22:49
Sonak followed Fox to the galley, where she discovered to have a nice choice of weaponry in the means of kitchen utensils. She chose a large and heavy frying pan for a weapon, before heading back towards Logan and D'Angelo. To her horror, she discovered D'Angelo had disappeared.
She knelt beside Logan, knowing already he wasn't lethally injured due to the holodeck settings. "Logan can you hear me?" she called, grabbing for his hand, while Fox knelt on his other side and pressed down on the compress on Logan's chest. "Logan if you can hear me squeeze my hand."
The Vulcan waited anxiously for any response from her chief engineer. She leaned in closer, her long hair falling into his face as her cheek nearly brushed his. She was fully aware of his flirtatious behaviour towards her, and she hoped a return of such behaviour would get his attention. With her free hand, she brushed her fingers against his temple, quietly calming him by sheer thought. "Stay with him," she told her science chief, "and call me the minute his condition changes. I am going to find the doctor."
When she walked back up to the main deck, she found L'Ola and Trey still held at gunpoint by two pirates, but there was no sign of the doctor or the navigator. She prowled past the nearest pirate, swingng up her heavy pan, fully prepared to bash his head in if necessary. However, just at that moment the pirate turned and swiped his dagger at her. She was overbalanced in her swing and was unable to parry the swing in time. She hissed as the dagger grazed past her side, cleaving the fabric of her tunic, and the skin below.
Finishing her swing, she subdued the pirate, then dropped her weapon in order to press her hand against the bleeding cut. "Trey, L'Ola, subdue him!" she cried as she stormed aft. "Tovan!" She whirled around and grabbed the steering wheel, yanking it round until the ship heaved over to one side, water nearly slushing over the deck as the ship keeled over in the turn.
Vulcans rarely liked water, and disliked cold even more. Sonak didn't know whether Tovan could swim, or how long he would last in he cold water. By now she did guess that D'Angelo had not been cast overboard; instead he seemed to have managed to get out of the scenario once more. However, she had the sole communicator and access to the computer. "Computer, lock on to Doctor D'Angelo and beam him to my location."
Within seconds, a surprised human doctor stood before her, and without warning, she struck out at him, knocking him to the deck. "Try that again," she dared him, her eyes flashing with a rage he hadn't yet witnessed, "what kind of doctor are you to abandon a patient? Get down there and tend to Commander Byrne, he has been gravely injured."
From the corner of her eyes, she saw Trey and L'Ola toss the remaining pirate overboard. However she also saw more trouble was coming in the form of more pirates coming their way. "Trey!" she called, then beckoned her security chief as well. "Recover Lieutenant Tovan from the water, then prepare to set full sail to get out of here!"
Once her orders had been issued, she slumped against the railing, her hands folded over the cut in her side. She knew what Logan was going through; she felt it too. The blades had been unclean and it was poisoning them both, slowly but steadily.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Marco D'Angelo on Mar 28, 2007, 3:46
Struck by a Vulcan, and with fear, D'Angelo tended to Logan. "What happened to him?" Had he known someone could have been hurt in the holideck for real, he would have made it a point to come. Since the Commodore assured him earlier that the safety protocols were on, he didn't see the harm in sending a replacement.
=/\= Computer, activate modified EMH alpha-four.=/\= Alpha Four was somewhat of an inside joke to Marco. In university, Alpha Four was the room number where Marco and another student... a female student... had...
The EMH, looking like and acting like D'Angleo appeared. "Where have you been? You are going to get me into trouble."
"I'm not your servant you know. This man was seriously hurt, I was treating him, with almost NO MEDICAL equipment I might add, when I started to dematerialize."
D'Angelo wondered if that was how he sounded when he was angry, becuase it sounded rather arrogant and rude. "Listen, Logan will not die, there are protocols on. It's just a very very realistic simulation. We need to patch him up nonetheless."
"I'll go help the Commodore, she looks hurt." holographic D'Angelo said to the real D'Angelo.
"Where are you going? It's rather annoying that you are leaving me here when I need you!" The sound of his voice echoed funnily in his head, as he had heard the same remarks being on the receiving end of them prior.
Marco looked around for supplies, and found some fishing line. Using that, and the small scaple he had, he sewed Logan back up. It wouldn't help with the gangrinous flesh, which was clearly not an infection, it was moving too fast, ... but it will stop the bleeding.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commander 1st Logan Byrne on Mar 28, 2007, 6:23
As Logan was slumped against the bulkhead, he felt a minor charge of life as the Commodore mindmelded with momentarily giving him some of her strength to snap him back into conscience.
As he seemed to snap out of the pain of the injury he sustained, he brushed his cheek as if something had laid upon it earlier like silk through his fingers. Grabbing Fox's hand, he applied more pressure to his wound and righted himself.
"What is the situation, Fox?", asked Byrne. Leaning forward to ease the pain of the wound, he limped forward and grabbed what could be the nearest considerable weapon. "What is the status of the Commodore? I have this feeling she was just here and scared, yeah, I know, Vulcan right? But she needs us. And where the hell is the EMH, seeing the Doc bailed on this mission." <TAG Fox>
With that, he doubled over in real pain. 'So much for the safeties on this holodeck,' he thought to himself. 'She is gonna owe me more than a dinner for this one. Just hope I have the chance to thank her for what she gave me. All though, he rubbed his cheek again as her hair had stroked it'.
Limping to the upper deck, he arrived as the Commodore fell from the injury she recieved from the pirate. Rushing to her side, he held her closely after the EMH appeared to treat both of them. <Tag Sonak>Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Fox on Mar 28, 2007, 13:15
"What is the situation, Fox?", asked Byrne. Leaning forward to ease the pain of the wound.
Fox was looking at him, "Lay still." he said shortly, not knowing exactly what to do to ease Logans pain. In the academy he had followed essential medical courses, but after that he stayed far from anything that had to do with it.
"I hope the doctor will be coming back soon." He continued "Sonak went to the upper deck again." he went on. With that Logan moved again, trying to get up. Fox tried to hold him down, but Logan struggled against that "I need to go there." he said.
Finally Fox nodded, knowing Logan wouldn't let himself be stopped. "But let me aid you then." Fox got up from his sitting position next to Logan. Together both officers walked, Fox supporting Logan, to the stairs leading to the upper deck. Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commodore Sonak Reckus on Mar 28, 2007, 17:22
"Fox," the Vulcan casped as both Logan and the EMH ran to her side, "assist Trey." She paused, glancing up at her long-time friend. "Tovan fell overboard..." Fox nodded, seeing the anguish in her eyes and moved to assist the senior marine officer.
Beside her, Logan had wrapped his arms around her as though holding her still so that the EMH could tend to her. While she allowed the engineer to hold her, she shrugged the EMH off. "Computer, return EMH to sickbay," she ordered and the hologram vanished.
Sonak heard Logan gasp and she half-turned, wincing slightly. The cut on her side wasn't deep and she needed it to bleed freely. As long as it bled, toxins would be flushed out of the wound. As a doctor, she knew perfectly well how to treat injuries conform basic medical knowledge as done in the early days of medicine. "How are you holding up?" she asked, inspecting Logan's injury.
She nodded in approval as she saw how the injury had been crudely stitched up. "Where is Doctor D'Angelo?" she finally demanded, while struggling to her feet. "Where is that little cheat?" Anger was audible in her voice, and even Logan flinched when he sensed it through her touch. Her senior staff knew that, when she was sufficiently angered, she was some force to be reckoned with and therefor they tended not to anger her, or at least attempt not to.
"D'Angelo!" she roared over the wind, drawing attention from all her senior staff. From the corner of her eyes she saw Trey and Fox lift a drenched Vulcan onto the deck. She flashed them a smile of approval and knew already who would fail her scenario and who had passed. On the other side of the deck, L'Ola had managed to subdue the remaining pirate. "Question him," she told her security chief, "and get us out of here."
Logan pulled her back down, though he didn't put all his strength into it. "Calm down," he urged her in a whisper, noticing that she was shivering. Sonak slumped against him, while glaring at her chief medical officer as he approached.
"You have some nerve," she snapped, the full mental force of her fury directed at the young doctor, "when this scenario is solved, I may need to have a strong word with you about ethics and how to be a starfleet officer. For now, consider yourself warned doctor and not to pull such a stunt as this again. Your trick may have endangered the both of us. You disrupted this program with your tinkering, and because of you Logan and I now find ourselves probably poisoned."Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by LT.J.G. trey maverick on Mar 29, 2007, 5:15
Trey tapped the wet Vulcan on the back as he stood on the deck.
“So… how was your swim?” tray asked jokingly
“Most refreshing” answered the Vulcan as he walked away from commander fox and LT. Maverick.
“Man, not even a thank you” commented trey as Tovan continued walking away from them, “we should have left him for the sharks, and am sure they would have had fun with him.”
“Enough of that lieutenant why don’t you go see how our guests are holding up” said fox with a slight smile on his face.
Trey walked over to one of the men, “so why don’t you tell me what it was you were planning on doing with our ship” but he got no response from there captives. “hey look am a reasonable man but I cant say the same for my captain, she, she will have you walk the plank for sure but if you give me a little info am sure I could get her to be lenient, so what’d you say huh?” but the man still did not look convinced, and spat on the young marines boots. “Okay don’t say I didn’t warn you”.
Trey then made his way to the port side of the ship, it didn’t take him long to notice another ship heading towards them, and this one seemed to have black sails. {Black sails?} He thought to him self {this does not look good}. He looked in the direction of there tied prisoners who now seemed wear the expressions of shock and fear on there faces
“You guys don’t seem to happy to see that ship, now why is that?” asked trey
“What do you mean, don’t you know who’s ship that is?” asked one of the pirates
“Now if I knew I would not be asking would I, now why don’t you enlighten me”
“He’s going to kill us he’s going to kill us all, we’re doomed”
“HEY STOP BABBLING AND TELL ME WHO THE HELL THAT IS” shouted trey as his temper began to rise.
“They’re pirates, the meanest, badest, roughest, toughest sea dog that ever sailed these seas”
“so DO these meanest, badest, roughest, toughest sea dog have a name?”
“They’re called BLACK DEATH” Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commodore Sonak Reckus on Mar 30, 2007, 22:06
Sonak turned from her CMO, even as he staggered back in disbelief. She sensed fury from the young doctor, but she chose to ignore him, thereby daring him to act. She winced as she got to her feet, supported by Logan whom she supported in turn. "Black death?"
She squinted against the low sun, just managing to pick out the rapidly approaching black sails. For a long moment she seemed to be 'out of this world' as she stood with her eyes closed, lightly swaying on her feet and with the sway of the ship on the waves. "It is not us they are after," she decided, then pointed squarely at the tied up pirates. "It is them they are after." She glared at Trey and L'Ola. "Toss them overboard, with or without lifeboat, I do not care."Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by L'Ola Kanz on Mar 31, 2007, 0:11
For someone who had had a lot on her mind lately, having the chance to take everything out on a holographic pirate was not an opportunity L'Ola wanted to miss. She looked with glee at the unfortunate soul that had been given the task of looking after her. She almost felt sorry for him for a second as she picked her method of taking him out.
Going for authenticity she picked an ancient earth martial art. With a few sharp blows and a quick flip (using his strength against him) she was looking at the guy from a slightly different angle. L'Ola then found some rope and tied him up just in case he would be useful later on.
"Toss them overboard, with or without lifeboat, I do not care."
L'Ola was only a little surprised to hear this command. She'd been on the ship too long to expect entirely 'normal' thinking from Sonak. Happy to comply she rounded up a couple of pirates that seemed to be twice her size and threw them over the back of the boat.
Now she thought about it, the drill had actually been quite good fun. The change of pace, the challenge of manual labour, and the ultimate stress relief. Would almost be a shame to go back to technology. Almost...Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Marco D'Angelo on Mar 31, 2007, 7:37
L'ola stood next to Marco, with a smile of on her phase that only the satisfaction of a job well-done could create. Marco had no such smile on his face. In fact, his face had more of a worried look as he helped L'ola throw the last pirate overboard.
"There - that should do it... although, I would have thought actually killing them would be a better solution." The point of the scenario, apparently, was not to kill the pirates... of course, if the doctor had been present at the briefing, he would have known.
It was the second to last period of the day, with only quantum biology left. Sitting in Senior Alien Anatomy class, Enrico Giuliano had just received his final thesis. With a smile on his face, he tucked it into a folder, and walked out of the class.
There were only 5 people left in the classroom awaiting their final grades, among which sat Marco, awaiting his fate. From the look on Enrico's face, Marco could ascertain that he had received the high marks needed to graduate with full honors. Marco only needed to get a 84% on this thesis to get a step higher than Enrico, and, as a result, graduate first in his class.
A few more students were called before the professor called D'Angelo's name boisterously. Face down, the transfer padd was handed to Marco. Marco looked at it, and his head sank with his chances to graduate first in his class lost.
"We need to get Logan and the Commodore to the real sickbay. With the EMH being a part of this simulation, the medical protocols must have been affected." Marco's voice couldn't convey any more sorrow.
=/\= Computer, two to beam to sickbay =/\=
"Jatan should be on schedule by now," Marco said, checking his chronometer.
"Are you sure? That seems so beneath you?" Trisha, one of Marco's few friends from medical school was still bewildered that he would take such a simple-minded job like being a doctor aboard a freighter.
"Yea. It's not so bad. I'll get to see different races- interact with different people." The truth was, Marco didn't like the dissatisfaction of being second best. Aboard the freighter, there was no chance of being shown up. The scar of losing the limelight his graduating year shown deep.
'How am I going to explain myself to the Commodore' Marco thought, leaving the holodeck. He hadn't seen a ship counselor in so long, and he was probably in need of one by now. The transition to a Starfleet ship was tough. These people were qualified. More than that - these people had the potential to do his job... especially Commodore Reckus. It felt like Alien Anatomy class all over again, being aboard this ship. Perhaps it was the reason Marco was tried so vigilantly to forgo these drills, which in essence, were tests.
It didn't matter at this point. No matter what the reason, he was a Starfleet officer. Hopefully, over time, he will be able to redeem himself.
Entering sickbay, he inhaled deeply, walked over the thresh hold, and started barking orders to the attending doctors.Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commodore Sonak Reckus on Mar 31, 2007, 23:48
As it was, Jatan wasn't on call but instead D'Angelo was met by a rather annoyed looking Doctor John Caldwell. "Now you've done it doc," the young doctor chided his chief, "dodging the commodore's drills and now defying her orders by beaming her and Logan into sickbay. I'm sure you've met her wrath already, by the look on your face."
Caldwell clapped D'Angelo on the shoulder in compassion. "Don't you worry mate, she'll cool off. She just got these anger fits once in a while...though I'm surprised she picked a doctor to vent them on, usually the chief engineer is the victim here."
Sonak glanced up in sheer annoyance when Caldwell stepped through the curtains. "Who authorised the beam-out from the holodeck?"
Caldwell shrugged. "Not your concern now ma'am, you're confined to sickbay for now...though Commander Byrne shall be keeping you company here in isolation. Yes we're quarantining the both of you until we find out what was on that blade. D'Angelo's feeling really bad about compromising your program you know...did you really have to be that harsh on him?"
Sonak's glare darkened as she gazed at the young doctor. "He disobeyed my orders and messed with my program," she snapped, "as commanding officer, I have to take measures. He has failed this drill, thus he will now have to prove to me that he is a teamplayer. There are ways he can redeem himself, he will just have to show me what he is made of. All I see now is a coward."
Caldwell glared right back at her. "Who are you to judge on just one scenario. He is new to this ship, he doesn't know how you run things. You can hardly expect him to abide by your set rules when he's new. You're being unfair to him." He jammed the hypospray against her now bare arm a little more forceful than he intended, leaving a red mark where he'd pressed the instrument down. Then he whooshed open the curtain that separated her from Logan. "You both are confined to sickbay until further notice."
When he walked away, both officers could see the faint shimmer of a forcefield being erected. From her bed, she could see D'Angelo working in the distance, with his back towards them. "How do you feel?" she finally asked Logan, after a very long and eerie silence. "Oh before I forget." She tapped her combadge. "Computer, end program running on holodeck one. Dismiss participants to quarters for shoreleave."Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commander 1st Logan Byrne on Apr 1, 2007, 3:29
Lying on his back in Sickbay, he regretted telling D'Angelo about the EMHs for the different modules. As Dr. Caldwell yelled at the both of them, he weaky responded to the Commodore's question if he was okay. Slumping into his pillow, he winced as the doctor hit him with a hypospray to ease the pain.
Thinking back, he really thought he should have stayed with the Commodore and L'Ola and maybe he could have avoided being stabbed with the crusty blade. Good thing Fox was there to assist. 'He is always there for me', he thought.
Sliding into sleep, he glanced over to the Commodore seeing her out of the corner of his eye. He slightly smiled as he saw her lying there with her hair down and vunerable.
With that, he fell asleep........Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Commodore Sonak Reckus on Apr 1, 2007, 21:19
Sighing, the Vulcan stared at the grey ceiling, wondering how often she'd seen this already. She'd lost count on how many times she had ended up in sickbay during a mission, though she remembered it was often enough and the severity of injury had varied too. However to her knowledge she'd never been quarantined in sickbay before; it was altogether a new experience.
Her long hair lay fanned out over the pillow, though a few strands had fallen over her face when she had rolled back onto her back. She felt restless, and she couldn't understand why. Of all times, this was a time where she regretted not having a trained counselor aboard, other than herself.
Earlier, she had sensed that her new CMO was troubled about something and she had the distinct feeling it had to do with having landed in the middle of drill scenario's. That, and Caldwell's angry words had struck a sore chord with her. Now, she wondered whether she ought to play counselor on the new doctor, or stick with her harsh treatment of him.
~am I really this harsh on him?~ she wondered, glancing sideways at Logan. Much to her disappointment, he seemed to be asleep, his breath slow but regular as his chest rose and fell. The monitor indicated he was sound asleep, and no longer in any pain.
Sonak took a moment to register the sound of her own monitor, which wasn't giving the steady beeping it ought to give. Instead it was signaling her distress, and her unrest. Sighing again, she settled back in her pillows, picking up the book a nurse had brought her. ~I still need to talk to him~ she thought, while reaching towards the button that would call a nurse.
"Please get Doctor D'Angelo," she instructed the nurse, then nodded towards the curtain, "and please close that for now? I have private business to conduct with the doctor."
The nurse nodded and several minutes later a nervous looking CMO stepped through. "Please sit doctor," the Vulcan instructed him, "and tell me why you are so keen on dodging these drilss and why you hacked into my program, thereby endangering the lives of my senior staff. Pending your explanation, I may decide on a penalty for your conduct."Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by L'Ola Kanz on Apr 2, 2007, 9:19
Once they had been dismissed from the holodeck, L'Ola headed straight up to the Main Bridge to talk to Lieutenant Keggin. As her assistant, he'd been keeping things under control while she'd been busy so an update would be useful. And he would also know exactly where to find a specific record she needed.
"Hi Commander. Umm... where exactly have you been?"
L'Ola was a little confused by the question, right up to the point where she looked down and realised getting changed first might have been a good idea. She grinned and shook her head, "I'll tell you about it later. Any chance you could pull up the access reports on the Commodore's drill program. I need to know if anyone modified it."
"Sure I'll take a look." He pulled up the records and started a search through them. "I thought we had hacker alerts on every system anyway."
"Only essential ones. Might have to get them put on the others though as well."
Richard grinned, "Couldn't have thought of that while the hacker was here then."
"Guess not. You saw her then? I didn't think she'd been here long enough for anyone to notice."
"Well you know how word gets around on a ship like this. Okay, I have what you're looking for."
L'Ola looked at it carefully, "Computer, please send a message to Doctor D'Angelo to report to my office at his earliest convenience."Re: VES Mission: Drills! Post by Marco D'Angelo on Apr 8, 2007, 6:15
In a burst of emotion, which swung back and forth between anger and sadness like a pendulum on a clock, the doctor tried to justify his misconduct. When the Doctor would pause, the Commodore would sit quietly, knowing there was more. Marco would regain his composure, and continue. He relived his entire childhood, and his fear of being rejected. It went like this for almost an hour, at which point D'Angelo made a final pause and asked, "..so, am I being court marshalled?"
It was Sonak's turn to pause. And paused she did. It was amazing how much dramatics a Vulcan could create while they were deep in thought. But there sat D'Angelo, awaiting some form of admonishment for his actions.
Finally, the Commodore spoke. Softly, and slowly, she made it clear that she believed D'Angelo's story, however, it was no excuse for his behavior.
"I didn't mean it as an excuse, Sir." D'Angelo rubbed his ankle. It wasn't hurting this time, it was just a nervous habit he had picked up since the injury. "by no means is it a justification," a tear started forming in his eye, and he wiped it before Sonak could see, "I just wanted you to know where I was coming from."
D'Angelo found it odd that a Vulcan gave understanding to his emotional side. However, in his short ride on the vessel Vesuvius, he had noticed that the Commanding Officer had a softer side.
The Commodore's response was to postpone punishment. Rest assured, there would be punishment. She needed time to weigh the facts of the case.. as well as the extenuating circumstances that D'Angelo presented.
Excused, D'Angelo walked out of Sonak's quarters. It was a bit odd meeting her in her quarters, but he felt more at ease to open up. The Commodore must have known that there was an underlying issue, and took a more personal approach than forcing the subject in her ready room.
"Thank you Commodore."
For what? he didn't know. He was being punished, yet felt the need to thank Sonak for her ear. Had a full-time counselor been on-board, he would have talked to them... but talking to the Commanding Officer was soothing - since she needed to understand where the doctor was coming from.
D'Angelo puffed up his chest, and walked back to the room, avoiding eye contact with other members of the crew, lest they see his reddened eyes.
