De-Mildewing Ponies

De-Stinkifying Ponies:

"Remove their heads and fill them up with baking soda. Bury them in baking soda for a few weeks. When taken out, they shouldn't smell. Also, scrubbing them with baking soda and a wet tooth brush will take care of mild stinks." - Up, Up, and away

"This is what I do for smoke-smell ponies. If the bodies are stained with smoke, I will give them a good scrub with a soft toothbrush and artist brush soap. For the spots really badly stained I'll use either rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover [being VERY careful not to go to close to the rump symbols especially if they are glittery.] The mane and tail I treat a bit differently though as I find they tend to hold the smell longer than the bodies. I take Febreze and pour it into a container that I can dip a comb in [I have some Barbie combs that work great for ponies.] I take the Febreze and comb it through the mane and tail and leave it dry. Then in 24 hours I will smell the mane & tail. Usually one application does the trick but sometimes a second treatment is necessary. Usually, the Febreze gets rid of the odor. Then you may want to wash the mane & tail just to soften them up as the treatment does tend to stiffen them." -Silver Wyng

"I have heard from people to set them in a shoe box with baking soda for a few days to weeks. That should help. my friend Donna did that with one that was in a house fire and it got the smell out. Good luck!" -Aine

"Well what works for me is taking a tupperware (or similar container) and spreading a small layer of scented lotion on the lid. Pop the pony inside and after just a little while she'll smell wonderful!" -*~PS~*

"I got a bunch of ponies off of e-bay and they ALL smelled smokey... I washed them in watermelon scented soap, and let them soak for a while. Then I let them sit outside and enjoy the sun. Lather, rinse, repeat... the smell is gone for me!" -)*( Evening Star )O(

De-Mildewing Ponies:

"To get mildew out of ponies, remove the head, pour a bleach/soap solution into the ponies' body and head, and use a toothbrush and q-tips to reach way inside to the feet. Rinse well!" -The Delaneys

"I use Q-tips to get into the legs." -Taffy

"You can soak her in bleach for a couple of days, and then take the mushroom [mold] out with a knife. I know it sounds horrid, but it works. The only problem is the hair gets really thick. And, no, it does not hurt the body, coloring, etc." - Moondancer

"A couple of *days*? Wow, I don't know what kind of bleach you're using, *G*, but when I blast a case of mildew it dissolves almost instantly. I just fill up the pony with a bleach/water mixture and swirl it around thoroughly, and rinse. Even though I've never had a problem with bleach, I'd be nervous to leave the pony soaking in it for days -- it *is* a rather strong chemical, after all. :)" -Lady Minty
