The Salzburger Adventsingen is the main attraction of the Christmas Festival in Salzburg, Austria which is the second biggest cultural event of the year in the city. It started in 1946 when 46 people were in the audience listening to folk music. The Adventsingen was founded by folk music pioneer Tobi Reiser who just wanted to give people a place to warm their hearts after world war two had just ended. Today about 40,000 people come every year to see the show in the festival house. The Adventsingen is sold out for the past 35 years! The show has evolved into a dramatized oratorio with 200 participants, who are a mixture between professionals, students and folk music specialists. But it's not just folk music any more. In 1964 my father, Wilhelm Keller, started to create a new style to do justice to the growing popularity and new dimensions of the Adventsingen. He made new arrangements of folk songs and composed cantatas that combined folk music with new music. That unique musical style together with yodeling shepherd boys and ever changing concepts put the christmas story into a new light every year and attracts people from all over the world!
