Just viewed the Sarah Brightman in concert video. I wanted to find more about the tenor that sang "Time to say goodbye", Andrea Bocelli and what recordings he has. Thanks to this website, I found what I was looking for.

Sr. Bocelli's music has made a big difference in my life and probably in its direction. But I pray that he will not stop singing "popular" songs. I know it must be far more interesting to challenge himself with classical music, but the different "voices he uses in popular singing, especially in the lower registers, creates so much more of a dynamic impact when he makes his brilliant transission into his operatic "voice" (and back again) than if his music were simply of one type or the other. Plus, when he sings in a soft or more "natural sounding" lower range the effect is far more immediate, present and intimate. It makes both the singer and the song feel more human, more touchable, approachable. There is no question his operatic voice is superb, but I love to hear both. And I do not get such a feeling of connection and healing from listening strictly to the arias as I do to some of the popular songs like "Canto Della Terra" (my favorite), "Canti o," "Sogno" and the other song he wrote (I think it's something like "Voglio Restarà Cosi" maybe? I'm just teaching myself Italian - means "I want to stay like this.") I do agree he doesn't need to sing "pop" like the rest of the world, and although I d like "The Prayer" I don't feel that he needs the help of any of the other popular singers to promote himself. He's fine all by himself. Keep in mind, too, that his "pop" songs are so very different from the type we hear in the U.S. and even in England. The lyrics themselves are incredible, even literary - like poetry. These are not "dumb blond" songs. And the arrangements are so far su erior from any we normally hear, he needn't feel embarrassed or mercenary for singing them. With his voice they stand on their own as ligetimate expressions of art. I would urge Sr. Bocelli (for our sakes at least) to reconsider the so-called "pop" genre and try to get past the nasty connations ill-wishers are trying to associate him with, and simply sing songs he loves, popular or classical, those that he feels for, and I know we'll all love them. Also please tell him that I send my love and good wishes to him and Enrica, Amos, Mateo and his mother and father, and pray always for their safety and happiness. And if there's any way I could get to ski with him some day, I would love it! (I'm very im ressed about that!) Laurie Hall
