I made these speakers for my musician friends, colleagues at work, who formed small music group. They are all great musicians, but do not have much of the PA. These speakers work well and can handle small venue. The are composed of 18" Goldwood woofer, four 6" Dayton PA midranges, Radian compression tweeter. The supertweeter is disconected. Sound is authoritative, but not flat. Woofer can not keep up with the rest when it comes to efficiency, plus it does not go that deep, which is ok for PA, but I can hear it at home it lacks lowest register. Midrange is open back, which gives it crystal clear voices. Singers love them, much better sound in comparison to when voices are handled by 15 or 18" woofer. |

One has to be gentle with volume control, it goes loud very quickly. You can see the equalizer when speakers in the room are flat. You can see the woofers rolling off quite soon, plus the Radians have to be tamed a little. I am still working on it. So far for PA it was ok. By the way, I have tried to power these speakers with 2 watt OTL tube amp, plenty of sound at home, it worked well. These speakers if biamped would be great for home use. Woofers would be handled by high current solid state amp, mids and up by class A tube amp. Sweet. |
