CD RARITIES AVAILABLE. BRAZILIAN INTERPRETERS

The most attractive recording of all seems to us the one dedicated to the Complete Trios for Fortepiano, Flute and Cello by Joseph Haydn (1732-1809). The great scholar of the baroque and classical periods, Charles Rosen, finds them "pleasant pieces devoid of any special interest". But these trios have delicious music that is full of imagination and is capable of entertaining both our hearing and our spirit for the nearly 70 minutes they last. The main reason for such enchantment is, of course, the interpreters who, by the way, chose to play them on original instruments. Pedro Persone on the fortepiano, Bernardo toledo Piza on the flute and Maria Alice Brandão on the cello give a rendering that is both serious and pleasant. The above mentioned artists are masters in their respective instruments and they play remarkably well together. The temperament of the fortepiano is the unequal. The fortepiano itself is an ancestor of the modern piano. Those who are not acquainted with either this tuning or with the peculiar sound of the fortepiano might find them strange. But it is worth listening to this CD. (Paulus label; nº 7620-1)

Music

Brazilian talent in French pieces.

The CD of baroque music by harpsichordist Pedro Persone called "French Music for the Harpsichord" is one of almost unbelievable refinement. In this CD the talented Brazilian Pedro Persone presents more than 70 minutes of old European pieces of the 17th and 18th centuries. Most of such pieces are known only by specialists in the baroque art (...) The new harpsichord has a wonderful range of tones that go from the velvety to the delicately acid. The resources of the instrument are thoroughly displayed by Pedro Persone (...) Originally form Tietê (São Paulo State, Brazil), Pedro Persone is a respectable harpsichordist. His touch is full of nuance and is capable of showing all the beauty of the instrument. Mr. Persone also has a precise articulation that is based on a flexible rhythmic feeling that redesigns the musical architecture in a charming and elegant way. His playing in this recording causes admiration and pleasure.
