I believe anyone who has not experienced any of Mozart's operas has
not found the true versatility and genius Mozart has to offer. Though there
is a charm and continual delight in his numerous concertos, serenades and
minuets, the operas provide something extra special. It cannot be found
in the much well-famed and somewhat overexposed Eine Kleine Nachtmusik.
This gives most people the impression Mozart wrote delightful little
"ditties" without more profound depth. In the operas, you will
hear, in full form, what much of his music only hints at. There is much
humor and delight, but also sorrow, compassion, exhilaration, fear and
revelation. Within the operas is where you will find the complexity and
humanity of Mozart's soul.
