MARK DELAVAN - Dramatic Baritone


Featured in a recent issue of Opera News, Sept. 2001, Mark Delavan is one of America's most sought after, versatile baritones. He has earned public and critical acclaim for his many performances on the opera and concert stages:

NEW YORK CITY OPERA
As a regular at the New York City Opera, after a performance as Horace Tabor in The Ballad of Baby Doe in April 2001, he opened their 2001-2002 season singing the title role in Der Fliegende Hollander. Among other performances, he has presented his interpretations of the title roles in Rigoletto, Macbeth, Boito's Mefistofelle, and Falstaff. He has performed the four villain parts in les Contes d'Hoffman, Tosca, Attila, and Carmen, and Enrico in Lucia de Lammermoor.

METROPOLITAN OPERA DEBUT
In January, 2001, Mr. Delavan made his debut on the Metropolitan Opera stage as Amonasro in Aida, resulting in warm reviews:"...splendid singers in their prime," and "...an auspicious debut by this beautifully crafted baritone." Also, he appeared during this 2000-2001 season at the Florentine Opera company in Milwaukee as Falstaff, New York City Opera as Nottingham in Roberto Devereux, the title role in the Pittsburgh Opera's Le Nozze de Figaro and he is now singing at the Baltimore Opera. He debuted with the Santa Fe Opera as Altair in Die Aegyptische Helen, returned to the Montreal Opera as Amonasro, and to the New York City Opera in a new production of Rigoletto.

CURRENT & FUTURE ENGAGEMENTS
He recently sang Scarpia in Tosca for the Baltimore Opera. In Feb. 2002 he performed the role of Amfortas for his Lyric Opera of Chicago debut featuring Goesta Winbergh and Catherine Malfitano.

In April Iagobrings him to Detroit for the Michigan Opera Theater's OTELLO, and in June to Charleston, SC for the title role in Der Fliegende Hollander at the Spoletto U.S.A Festival. He will also sing the part of Germont in La Traviata for the Santa Fe Opera in July and August. He returns to New York City Opera to perform Michele in IL TABARRO, and the title role in GIANNI SCHICCHI in City Opera's season opener, IL TRITTICO. He continues at City Opera with his first performances of Jokanaan in SALOME. He then returns to the Baltimore Opera for reprisals of his acclaimed RIGOLETTO.

Rounding out 2002, the Boheme Opera Company presents Mr. Delavan in recital, with his wife, pianist Karen Delavan at the War Memorial Theatre in Trenton, NJ.
2003 begins with reprisals of his Amonasro in performances of AIDA with both the Metropolitan Opera and the Washington Opera.

BEGINNINGS
Born in Princeton, New Jersey, Mr. Delavan earned a Bachelor of Music Degree from Oral Roberts University. He also interned with Jerome Hines' acclaimed Opera Music Theatre International in New Jersey, was a national finalist of the Metropolitan Opera auditions and an Adler Fellow with the San Francisco Opera.
