Since 1996, when the Band was in the 4th Section both nationally and locally, it has steadily gained promotion to 2nd Section in both gradings. The aims of the original band remain - to foster and facilitate the musical aspirations of its members, and to further their musical advancement.
Sadly, in July 1991, the old band room was destroyed by fire. Thousands of pounds worth of instruments, rare music, uniforms, stands and banners were damaged. After a lot of hard work, Helene Donnelly and her expert team from the Data & Archival Damage Control Centre in London, managed to save more than 1.5 tons of musical scores. The band room has been rebuilt and re-sited on land adjacent to the Football Club and behind the Cricket Club.
In November 1996, a National Lottery Grant from the Arts Council of England was received for the purchase of new instruments and music stands.
The junior band meets for rehearsal on Wednesdays for one hour prior to the senior band rehearsal. John Groarke, a member of the senior band, who teaches the juniors, welcomes any and all newcomers.
The band is a member of the British Federation of Brass Bands and the North West Area Brass Band Association.
If you would like more information on either the senior or junior band please e-mail Andrew Dodd
ACTIVITIES
The senior band provides music for many local functions - eg local carnivals, Remembrance Day Service and March. Christmas concerts take place within the local area and the band enters various contests throughout the year. (See the contest and concert pages)
