Tom Maffitt's Photography Hobby
Welcome to my Photography Homepage. Photography, both Color and Black and White, has been a very satisfying hobby since the early 90's. Please enjoy samples of my work in the galleries below.
For all the Black and White and some of the color photographs I used a Olympus OMG with a 35-70mm zoom. On occasion I use various Tamron lens such as a 90mm, 28mm, and a 70-300mm zoom. For the majority of the color photographs, especally the prints, I use a Pentax IQZoom 900, with built-in 30-90mm zoom. I hope to eventually move into medium format B&W.
All color slides and prints are developed in the labs of local professional photofinishers. For slides I usually use Fugichrome 100 and for prints Kodak Gold 200.
The Black and White work is done in my own darkroom. Tri-X 400 is my film of choice, developed in a 1:1 solution of Kodak D76. My print paper is Ilford Multigrade Fiberbased, developed in a 1:1 solution of Kodak Dextol. My techniques and equipment are calibrated for the Zone System.
The B&W prints shown in Gallery 1 were scanned with a handheld LogicTeck ScanMan 2000. The B&W images in Gallery 2 were created by scanning the the negatives with a HP Photo Smart scanner. Although cropping and exposure are not idential to the prints, the images are representative of the darkroom rendering. The quality of the scans is very good, but in the interest of posting these images on the net a quality vs speed of loading trade off is made.
No Color slide work is represented at this time.
