STITCHER'S BITS & BIOS

This is where we as stitchers & friends tell you about ourselves. We all have interests other then stitching & to get to know each other better, we are listing them here. Our favorite designers, what projects we are currently doing, the floss we like, what we stitch on, birthdays, the area we live in and our favorite places to shop. So join in reading a bit about us and if you like, send a bio in about yourself, we'd love to get to know you.

Hi, my name is Bev(known to most as the AidaLady) I am from Ohio where I have lived my whole life. I am 47 born on 12/27/51..too late to be a Xmas baby & too early for New Years..story of my life, always in the middle LOL!! I came to the internet almost 3 yrs. ago and have met some wonderful friends. I learned to stitch on Linen though still a die-hard Aida stitcher. I only use DMC floss but would love to try the silks someday. My fav designers are, Wentzler, Marty Bell & Nancy Spruance. I love to stitch anything Victorian, but have done many others. Right now I am model stitching Marty Bell's, and I really enjoy that. I also hope to live forever just to be able to stitch most of my stash.

I'm Patti C. I'm 42, birthday is 4/16 , I'm married 8 years and we have 2 dogs, Dude and Buddy and a 10 year old cat named Rhesa-(but she still looks like a big kitten) I've been x-stitching on and off for about 20 years. I'm just learning about designers and hope to stitch a Lavender and Lace Angel and a Mirabilia pattern some day. I'm really looking forward to working on the Cross-stitch angel with everyone. Other basics about me, Have a cosmetic fixer upper that I'm still staring at not sure what to do! And I work at a craft-store part-time and am managing to bring my paycheck home inspite of myself!

My name is Brenda H. I'm 48 yrs.(DOB) 11/17/50. My family consist of Robert my DH, Scott and his wife Keita and my joy Taylor Marie 4 months. My other family members are Teddi, Panda, Yogi, Pooh and Zoey my Pomeranians; Whiskas,Taz and Lexie my cats. Now for the passion of my life CROSS STITCH. I love to stitch Emies, Nans, Theas, Lesa Steele, L&L and Miribilia. I love to stitch on uneven weaves favorite fabrics are Meran (when I can find it) Annabelle, Quaker and Cashel. My favorite color is the DMC purples (3740,3041,3042 &3743) . I love to change colors in my projects . I'm working on a secret Santa for this year. The Herb Sampler from Leisure Arts. My project to finish this year is Miribilia's Sleeping Beauty on Jobelan Wood Violet it is going to be gorgeous. I have been on the net for 2 months and I just found your BB last week. I usually read it twice a day. I don't work so this is my sanity. My user name is bnstitches .My friend says it stands for Brenda never stitches since she got her puter. Thanks for a great BBs.

My name is Deborah J. I am 27 years old. I was born on March 6, 1972. I will be married for seven years this June to my wonderful husband Will. We have two children Aimee which is five and Will III which is 3. We now live in Madisonville KY. We have been here about three months. I have been stitching now for about 4 years. I am currently working on Matthew 19:14 by Carol Emmer. My favorite designer is Paula Vaughn. I just recently discovered different designers so I am sure my list will grow. I only use DMC floss but will probably begin tryingdifferent flosses once my store is open and I stock all the different brands. I really love the BB and read it at least twice a day. Thanks for the wonderful BB.

My name is Kelly. I am 33 years old and my b-day is 2/06. I have been married for 10 years and have three children(7,5&2).I am a "S.A.H.M." but I am on the P.T.A. executive board, homeowners association and basically volunteer most of my spare time to others especially children. I have been cross stitching since I earned a badge in Girl Scouts which was over 20 years ago. I use only DMC and have been a faithful aida user. I go through my up's and down's with the stitching (literally!!). Stitching brings me relaxation after caring for the rest of the family all day. It is MY peace. I like anything that catches my eye or symbolizes something in my life. Have a ton of stash which should keep me busy for my life time...want to take it with me ! Most of my finished pieces have been gifts but the Cross Stitch Angel will be mine. Looking forward to stitching along with all of my friends here. I think I will give an evenweave a try for this beauty !

My name is Christy. I'm a Leo...birthday July 29th and I'm 35 (at least for a couple more months!) My wonderful DH is Mike. We've been married just 2 years. The rest of the family is 4-legged:Wilbur the floss eating Basset Hound & Snickers his perfect Chocolate Lab sister. We live in Decatur, IL (recently transplanted from Indianapolis.) Other than cross stitch, my passions are animals & reading. In Indy, I was a groomer, prior to that a General Manager for a shipping supplies company. I am currently enjoying retirement :-) I don't have any real favorite designers but love Amish & country type stuff. Most of my projects so far have been for gifts but that's going to change this year. My UFO's include a train (for DH), a Monopoly Board, Precious Moments Christmas, and very very soon the Angel!!! Hope to tackle a Marty Bell this year too! Plus I have enough leaflets I want to do for at least two lifetimes. I just did my first evenweave project & loved it!

My name is Pat I am 58. I havecross stitched, since I learned at 12 years old so I guess that means I have stitched for 47 years. I never really thought about that part of it before till I had to subtract it. LOL... Oh well!!!!! I also do needlepoint, traming (when the wool is put to the needlepoint first across wise, then you needlepoint over it and it gives it a sort of 3 dimentional look) , embroidery, knitting, crocheting, and quilting. I guess over the years I like doing just about anything in cross stitch, I really do not have any preferences. I definetely change colours so it suits me . We have 9 children between us and I have 20 grandchildren. I have been on the computer about 5 years and I am definetely a lurker. More or less go on to answer questions, or I have a pattern,or just to nag at someone. Also Proud to be a Canadian.

My name is Robin P. I am 34 (3/13/65) and been married to Kirk for 14 years. We have one daughter, Ali, that is 7. We are moving (in 6 days) to Morris, Al, which is about 25 miles north of Birmingham. I have been stitching for about 15 years. I had gotten away from it from 1992-96 and now it is my passion again. I love to stitch anything that strikes my fancy, but right now am working on L&L Angel of Grace. (this one is for me!!) I usually give away my pieces as gifts. This year I have gone thru all patterns and put in order the ones to complete and who they are for, right now, I think there is 20 "to do". I am also about to begin a wolf pattern for DH and a deer pattern for my dad (both Christmas presents) on the back of denim shirts with waste canvas. I have found that most men like to receive this type stitching, it's not too "sissy". I have been on the internet for about 1 year and have been visiting XS sites for about 6 months. I, too, spend way too much time on this ole puter than I need to, but somehow, time flies when you're having fun. I also do decorative painting to earn a paycheck. I paint on walls, floors, furniture, or just about anything that is stationary for a few minutes, LOL. Painting is a creative outlet, but it's also my "job", xs is something that I do just for "me". Thanks for all the friendships here!!!

Hi All Susan from NJ here. I will be turning 30 this year on Sept 30th. I have a wonderful DH, Bill, and we will be married 7 years on Aug 29. We have two children, Melissa and David, who are 4 1/2 and almost 17 mnths respectively. We are also owned by our 6 year old kitty Skittles. I have tried many types of needlework and I really love to cross stitch. I have some favorite designers L&L, Just Nan, Twisted Threads and Heart In Hand. I tend to buy more when it is a design I like. Samplers are catching my eye because they are gratifying to finish a band or two. My WIP's include: L&L's Song of Christmas (really a UFO at this point), Heart in Hand's "School Days". I will be starting Lizzie Kate's "For My Teacher" and then stitch two models. They are Itty Bitty Romance (32 ct over 1-awesome!!) and Tie-dyed Snowman (a MUST for snowman lovers). Thanks to Bev for this great page and Merry Stitching!

My name is Janet J. I am 63 yrs. & live in St Petersburg, Fla.since 1992. I retired at that time from my job with the State Of Ct. but worked P/T here until Nov. 1997. Since then I have been really retired. I have been stitching for over 20 yrs.. I taught myself & have worked on various fabrics & pick any pattern that I like but not anything floral. I sell some of the pictures at a little shop near where I live. I also do my own framing. My SO was making frames for me but right now he doesn't have access to equipment so I purchase the frames. I have 4 children-2 girls & 2 boys, 10 grandchildren-3 girls & 7 boys, & 2 great-granddaughters. I do a lot of crocheting & some sewing for the 2 babies(2 yrs. & 3 yrs.). I do many other crafts occasionally, also.

Hi, my name is Karen, and I'm 41, b.d. Nov. 21. No hubby or kids, just a furry kitty named Mushroom. I''ve lived in western PA for about 2 years, transplanted here from Kentucky. I've been doing some sort of needlework for about as long as I can remember, but cross stitch is my favorite -- been doing that for almost 20 years. My favorite things to stitch are cats and flowers and samplers, and my current "main project" (one of many!) is a waterlily with two little frogs. I don't know that I have a favorite designer, but I do like Eileen Bennet's samplers. My other hobbies are reading and music, and I work as a procedural analystfor an airline, so it's good to come home of an evening and use the 'puter for fun instead of work, then sit down to an hour or so of reading or stitching! Or reading AND stitching....or stitching and reading ...or.....

Hi, my name is Kim J. and I'm 34, I was born May 8th, 1965, in Washington,DC. I grew up in Maryland but have spent all of my adult years in East Tennessee. I have been married to Randall for 3 1/2 years now, and we have one son, Ryan, who turned 2 on Feb.5th. I also have 2 step-daughters,Tina and Kristy, and two step-grandsons,Chase who is 21 months and Dustin who is 6 months. Randall and I met while camping, and westill go camping every chance we get. I've been cross-stitching for about 18 years and it is my favorite hobby of all time. I like to crochet too, and I've tried knitting, but cross-stitch is my passion. I have a massive collection of DMC floss and a small collection of silks. I enjoy stitching on all types of fabrics, but I would say that I like 28ct evenweaves the best, mushroom lugana being my favorite. I still stitch on aida too, just depends on the design and how my eyes are feeling. I don't really have one favorite designer, but I lean towards Amish and country styles so I love Told in a Garden, and Linda Myers. I also collect Buckley Moss leaflets. Paula Vaughan is also a favorite of mine, I love every design she has ever done. I spend too much time online, but I love every minute of it and I cherish all of the friendships I have made. It is so wonderful to meet people from all over the world, and to be able to share our love of cross-stitch with each other.

Hi - I'm Marie whose birthday is 3/26/45 (and have most of the good Aries traits!) I have been stitching for 18 years, since I first stayed up all nite to finish a mini "Baby's First Christmas" stocking. It was a gift and nearly all of the pieces I have done since then have been gifts. I have done nearly all the Heirloom stockings from Cross Stitch & Craftways. I am in the process of doing one for myself. I live in a seaside city -Beverly, MA. It is wonderful to be able to smell the sea at night. I am not married but do work full time so my stitching time is limited. The Angel of Cross Stitch is going to be for ME! I love the encouragement, caring and humor of this bulletin board.

My name is Sharon B. I'm 41 years old. Born June 7, 1957. My family consists of me and my husband, Charlie and a new motorcycle. We've been married 3 years. I have been stitching since 1980. I just stitch whatever I see that I like. If I have to choose a favorite, I would say Barbara and Cheryl. I live in Wendell, North Carolina, a very small town about 25 miles east of Raleigh. I love this BB and Bev you are the greatest.

Hi. I'm Donna aka:taxyladi. I'm 36 years old and have been married to Mike for 14 years. My birthday is Feb. 26, 1963. Almost a leap year baby. We have two children, Matthew 10 and Kayla 8. They are 18 months apart and I wonder now why I did that. LOL. We live in Talladega, AL. The home of the Winston 500. So if anyone comes to the race let me know and we can get together. I'm 15 miles from the track. This past Nov I sold my business of 4 years which was Classic Cab. So now you know where the nickname came from. A dear lady that rode the cabs gave it to me. I really loved the business but it got to be a 7 day a week 24 hour job. No time for anything else. I also closed my Craft consignment shop after 3 years this past July. I contract paint figurines for Miss Martha's Originals "All God's Children. I have done this for three years and I can stay at home with this job. I have been cross stitching since 1985, 14 years. I love Paula Vaughan and have started collecting her books. I have yet to stitch one but they are in my plans. I joined the Internet 6 months ago and have gotten addicted to it also. I have joined the round robins thru it. I also organize a USA and Internet only leaflet exchange and a birthday floss exchange (this one open to all). I have meet several of the ladies on this BB through them. I read Aidalady's BB at least twice a day. If I miss it my day is not the same. I have enjoyed all the new friends here. Can't wait to have lunch with Robin and Paula in the next couple of months. Also counting days until we all start the angel stitch along. This will be my first and largest project to work on. She will be mine. Everything else I stitch seems to find other homes. lol

My name is Marilyn E. and I live in Aguila, AZ. I moved here from Texas, after a winter of wind chill factors in -50s and the heater had broken. I am originally from Oklahoma. My birthday is 6/23 and I'll be 46. I am married to Mike and I have a son Vance. I am a fruit/veggie inspector for the AZ Dept of Agriculture. I have been stitching about 17 years. My favorite designers are Marilyn Leavitt-Imblum and Nora Corbett and Paula Vaughan. Cross stitch is my passion, but I do other crafts also. My husband and I grow elephant garlic for fresh pack and processing to sell as a specialty item at local craft sales. I also love to read, which conflicts with the stitching, so I now listen to alot of books-on-tape. These were certainly a great invention, a way to have the best of both worlds. I have only had my computer for since March and I'm still trying to learn all the little tips and tricks. Very addicted to it also and it has begun to interfere with my stitching time.

My name is Pam, I'm 50 years old (9-18-48) and live in Chicago. I'm married to Bob - we'll celebrate our 25th in the year 2000. We have 2 children - John (29) and Johanna (22). So far neither is married and no grandchildren, so I may have to consider volunteering my services as a"rent-a-gram". We own a "Chicago 2-flat" and my FIL lives upstairs - it's a great arrangement in that he has his own space but is close enough that we can check on him several times a day. We have two dogs a Beagle named Sebastian and a Pit Bull mix named Miss Buddie. They recently made their modeling debut on Bev's Animal Attic page. I've been cross stitching for about 15 years. I also needlepoint but cross stitch is my first love. I don't really have any favorite designers but I am partial to Halloween and Christmas designs and any design that depicts the four seasons. Most of my projects are gifts so the tastes of the recipient usually play a big part in what I stitch. The CSA will be mine, all mine! I work full time for a Commercial Insurance Broker in downtown Chicago as a Claims Consultant. I also love to read, I do at least one cross word puzzle per day ever since I read somewhere that it helps ward off Alzheimer's, I collect refrigerator magnets both at home and at the office & badger people shamelessly to bring back magnets from their business trips or vacations. I love to travel but don't do nearly as much as I'd like. We gave DD a trip to Italy last summer as a graduation gift and I tagged along so that blew the travel budget for the next several years! Little known fact and one that I don't normally share: I love rock and roll and attending rock concerts. I'm very grateful for Bev and her BB and for all the wonderful friends I've made since joining this cross stitch family.

My name is Anita E, I’m 42 (4/5/57),I’ve been married for 23 years (5/29/76) to Terry(48) and we have four children, Alyssa (21), Jeff (19), Kyle (16) & Danny (15). We live in a small, rural Kansas suburb of the greater Kansas City Missouri Metro area. Having 2 kids in college and 2 in high school keeps me hopping...I love being involved in everything. This herd also includes Sandy, a golden retreiver mix, an absolute prince of a dog and Daisy, my MIL’s dog whom we have adopted during her illness. She is a lot of fun and often has us in stitches with her attempts to get the old dog up to play. I was a SAHM for 18 years and loved every minute of it! I got my real estate license 3.5 years ago but am now on a sabbetical (& loving it)for a couple of different reasons. I didn’t do any stitching during that time as I was too stressed and had no time and now I have picked it up again with a vengeance. I was taught to embroider by my dear grandmother; I started cross stitching about 18 years ago and I also enjoy needlepoint and English hand-smocking. Some of my current WIP are: L&L Peace Angel, Heirloom Sampler, hand-smocked ornaments and Koi Pond. I like a lot of different things, except for country. I always love Victoria Sampler designs and have a couple to work into my rotation soon. If only there were more hours in the day to stitch...

My name is Grace M. and I live in Wisconsin with my feline of dubious intelligence, Spike. I'm happily divorced (I like to refer to my ex as "the best 250 lbs. I ever lost"), and I have an unbelievably wonderful BF whose love and support for me is neverending. I thank God every day for him and for the other amazing people I have in my life. I'm currently just starting to experiment with rotation of my projects, and I'm finding that I love it! My current works in progress are Smoky Mountain Cats, a dinosaur-themed baby afghan for a friend's new arrival and The Accolade. I can't wait to work my way through the rotation and add more new projects. I don't know that I have any one favorite designer, but I am partial to realistic animal(especially cat) designs, and I've loved the few designs I've been able to get which are inspired by landmarks in Savannah and St. Simons Island, Georgia.

My name is Mel (short for Melissa - only get called that when I'm in trouble) and I live in Adelaide, South Australia. I'll be 33 on 30/12 and share my birthdate with my daughter, Caitlin, who will be two. I also have a son, Liam, who will be 4 on 4th July! My DH, Ken, and I will have been married for six years in October. We don't have any four-legged members in our family at the moment, but perhaps when the children are older, we will think about getting a dog. Grew up with them as a child so really miss not having one around. Cross stitch is my passion. It is wonderful therapy after a long day looking after my family or working at my part-time job. I work in my parent's accounting practice two days a week. I have been stitching on and off for about 12 years but more so in the past 6 months (ever since I discovered all these wonderful places through the internet). I like to stitch whatever I see that takes my fancy although I do have a predisposition towards teddies and Winnie the Pooh. I like Paula Vaughan's designs as well but have yet to stitch one. I have only stitched on Aida, usually 14ct, but some 18 and 16ct. I have a piece of 28ct evenweave in my stash that I hope to start something on one day. I am also slowly building up my DMC floss collection as I have always purchased kits in the past. I am gradually building up my collection of leaflets as well. I also belong to an Aussie internet stitching group and am currently involved in a round robin, Christmas Ornament exchange and birthday club with them, and loving it. I'm looking forward to starting the CSA stitch along although I'm wondering if I'll ever get it finished. I have many UFO's and am trying hard to get myself into some sort of rotation so that I can get them all finished. I usually stitch most evenings (when I'm not on the 'puter ) and have found that it is easier to devote a night (or two, depending on the project and how much more of it needs to be done) to a particular project. That way I don't get bored and at least I'm trying to get that UFO pile down. I'm very glad to have found this board and all you wonderful ladies, so thank you, Bev, for making that possible. I am sure that many lifelong friendships will be formed, even if most of us never get to meet.

Hi everyone, this is Mimi (but Mary calls me Meems),I am 53, BD August 7, 1945, a Leo at heart. I am married (almost 33 years, now), have 3 children, none at home at the present, son, Jay, married-no kids, lives in Florida, daughter Teri 26-lives in Atlanta, son Joshua 24,soon to be moving home again (YIKES!) and wants to go to grad school. I am a nurse working in critical care with Mary, been at this hospital almost 21 years (a lifetime!), just recently cut down to 2 days /wk since kids are through school (or I thought they were) and loving only working 24hrs/wk--semi-retired. Also have a stupid boxer dog-Bosco, and a very stuck-up puss OJ(orange juice). I have been doing cross stitch for over 15 yrs, started with needlepoint and now can't even look at a canvas, absolutely love to stitch, no special designer, usually just what I want to do, mainly as gifts and for my kids, but this year am doing a few things for me, but NOT the CSA at this time!!! I also crochet, usually baby afghans, and all the girls at work now expect them ( ole grandma),do a few crafts, but nothing like my first love. Love to travel and visit LNS when I go, dreaming of someday owning a RV so I can see the USA and find lots of stash. Also like to do some reading but it interferes with stitching, like to cook, that's about it with hobbies. Not very comfortable around the computer but love to check the boards and see what is happening. Thanks for all your hard work, Bev, and trying to make all of our wishes come true!!!

Hello, my name is Sarah C. and I'm not quite 43 years old. I live in Kansas and have been married 25 years this Nov. We have 2 grown "kids" and a real cute, but onery grandson who'll soon be 3. I've been cross stitching avidly since 1986. My first attempt wasn't too rewarding and I'd given up the idea of x-stitching,then luckily I started working with 2 other nurses that brought in projects they were doing. I was fascinated by the fact you start with a blank piece of cloth and end with such beautiful pictures! I'm hooked and the walls in my home are covered. Currently I am working on the month of March quilt from Paula Vaughn's 'Quilts for all Season's' x-stitch book. It is so nice to "meet" other stitchers this way and share. Happy stitching to you all!
