The Force Chronicles

There is no emotion; there is peace.
There is no ignorance; there is knowledge.
There is no passion; there is serenity.
There is no death; there is the Force.

Welcome to the Force Chronicles, a webpage entirely devoted to the Jedi and their beliefs.

The Force is both a natural and mystical presence, it is an energy field that both suffuses and binds the entire galaxy. The Force is generated by all living things, surrounding and penetrating them with its essence. Like most forms of energy, the Force can be manipulated and it is the knowledge and pre-disposition to do so that empowers the Jedi Knights and the Sith Lords.

There are two sides to the Force. The Light Side bestows great knowledge, peace, and an inner serenity; The Dark Side is filled with fear, anger and the vilest aggression.
Both the Dark and the Light Sides of the Force are part of the natural order, balancing life and death, love and hate, creation and destruction.

There are three major Force skills: control, sense, and alter. Control is the ability of a Jedi to control his or her own inner Force. With this skill, the Jedi learns to master the functions of his or her own body. The sense skill helps the Jedi sense the Force in things beyond themselves. The alter skill allows a Jedi to change the distribution and nature of the Force to create illusions, move objects and change the perceptions of others. However, only Force-sensitive living beings can master these skills and techniques.

The Midi-Chlorians: The Jedi have identified microscopic life forms that reside within all living cells. These tiny life forms communicate with the Force and reveal its will. A high Midi-Chlorian count indicates great potential as a Jedi.

The Jedi: Founded as a philosophical study group, the ancient Jedi spent centuries contemplating the mysterious energy field called the Force. For 25,000 years the Jedi Knights served as peacemakers for the Galactic Republic. Operating out of the judicial department under the office of the Chancellor, the Jedi became the guardians of freedom and justice. They battled inter-planetary criminals and settled cosmic disputes, becoming legendary throughout the galaxy.

Enter the Sith. In the darkest days of the Empire, nearly all the Jedi Masters were hunted down and wiped out. In hiding, Few managed to survive. Of those, Yoda and Obi Wan Kenobi were influential in starting a new order of Jedi in the form of Luke Skywalker, the last Jedi of the old order and the first Jedi Master of the new order.

Using the Force a Jedi can perform incredible feats of strength and speed, his mind can see far-off places, Project illusions, move objects, and hypnotize opponents.

              The Jedi

Jedi are usually identified within the first six months of birth. At this early age, The infants begin their Jedi training. Because older children experience fear and anger, the Jedi believe that it is unwise to train them in the ways of the Force. To enter Jedi training, it was once required for one to be approved by the (12 member) Jedi Council.

              Jedi Council

There are three levels of Jedi:

Padawan: a Jedi apprentice or student
Jedi Knight: graduated to full Jedi-hood
Jedi Master: teacher, most fluent in the Force

              Jedi code

While the Jedi's training embodies the light side, the Dark Side of the Force empowers the Sith.

The Sith: Legends of the Sith go back thousands of years. A cult of renegade Jedi who gave in to the Dark Side of the Force, the Sith embraced the concept that power denied is power wasted. The cult was built in opposition to the Jedi. While the Jedi Order was created to serve, the Sith only believed in domination.

              The Lords of Sith

Many of the original Sith destroyed themselves with their own evil. The few surviving Sith were hunted down and killed by the Jedi. After the killings, only one Sith Master remained, Darth Bane. To prevent future infighting between rival Sith apprentices, the Sith Master decided to take only a single apprentice. There would never be more than two Sith Lords at one time.

              Darth Maul

For a millennium, the Sith maintained their order in secrecy, passing down their evil heritage. Gaining knowledge, their powers increased each generation... waiting patiently until a weakness in the Jedi could be found.

The Lightsaber: Essentially a blade of pure energy, the Lightsaber is capable of cutting through almost everything-- except another Lightsaber blade. These elegant weapons have been masterfully wielded by Jedi Knights for thousands of years. Part of Jedi training includes the task of building a personal Lightsaber. Although each Lightsaber is unique, the weapons' basic design remains the same. The handle 24 to 30 centimeters long, holds a power cell as well as one or more crystals-- seldom more than three. The crystals focus the energy released by the power cell into a tight blade-like beam. The blade's color depends upon the nature of the jewel it springs from. When a single Jewel is placed in the Lightsaber's handle, the blade length is fixed. But if more than one crystal is placed in the handle, the blade's length can be changed. By rotating the knob, the Jedi can adjust the focusing crystal activator, which changes the refraction pattern between the gems, resulting in a shorter or longer blade.

George Lucas on the Force: "The Force developed out of various developments of character and plot. I wanted a concept of religion based on the premise that there is a God and there is good and evil. I began to distill the essence of all religions into what I thought was a basic idea common to all religions and common to primitive thinking. I wanted to develop something that was non-denominational but still had a kind of religious reality. I believe in God and I believe in right and wrong. I also believe that there are basic tenets which through history have developed into certainties, such as 'thou shalt not kill.' I don't want to hurt other people. 'Do unto others...' is the philosophy that permeates my work."
