Deborah Milton

Deborah, ever a voracious reader, had often dreamed of becoming an author, but never thought she would have the time or patience to actually complete a book. Several years ago, an event occurred that changed her life; a good friend's child died of leukemia. In order to deal with her grief, Deborah started to write. What emerged was her first novel, ANGEL,MINE. It was written to, in some way, alleviate some of the helplessness she felt as she watched her friend deal with her daughter's illness and eventual death. Perhaps someone will read this book, decide to register to become a bone marrow donor and another child's life will be saved. That is her hope. It is also Deborah's desire that this book be a reflection of one woman's true faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and how that faith can be tested through life's circumstances and grow stronger through the fire.

Meanwhile, Deborah discovered that she loved to write. And so, she embarked on a path a bit more entertaining; writing a mystery series. This series, starring Delaney Roberts, who is a regular mom and wife, is aimed at entertaining women of all ages. Delaney is not a detective, but her curiosity lands her situations that get her in trouble and in danger. The series is based on the 'Fruit of the Spirit' found in Galatians(Bible). Each of the nine books will deal with one of these 'fruit,' contrasting the world's view with that of God's. Mostly, they should be fun to read, but leave the reader thinking.

Poetry has also become a big part of Deborah's life. She feels that God speaks through poetry to her. The poems are a reflection of her relationship with God through His Son Jesus Christ. She is particularly pleased when He uses one of her poems, which she calls modern-day psalms, to speak to someone else. Her first book of poetry, currently entitled, THE LANGUAGE OF MY HEART, is under contract for publication early in the year 2001. Deborah is currently working on several projects: the second book in her mystery series, JOY TO THE WORLD; a book dealing with the subject of alzheimer's; and her first children's project, a picture book about adoption. Deborah lives in Rhode Island with her husband of 20 years, their four children, and two cats.

MIRROR OF OUR SOUL

Every time we pass a mirror
We cannot resist a peek.
To see if every hair's in place;
An edge on every crease.
It's funny how we care so much
about what others see.
But what about the stuff inside;
The things that make us we?
Too bad there's not a mirror
into which our souls can glimpse
themselves in all their glory
Or, perhaps, in their disgrace.
How much better for everyone
if we could sometimes chance upon
the reflection of our souls.
Then, we could pat each thought in place
and straighten every wrong.
