This heavy, solid, silvery-black stone is one of my favorites; striking in its appearance in any form, it is deadly to negative energies. "Volcano Spit," has an air of mystery surrounding its name. The ancient texts refer to it as 'bloodstone'. The reason for this is that the stone, when worked on a lapidary wheel, leaves stains resembling blood. Hematite is not to be confused with the true Bloodstone, which is dark, hunter green and well flecked with red markings. Hematite is a stone with attributes of healing, grounding, and divination; its projective energy acts in a more dynamic and forceful way, when compared with stones of the receptive kind. Hematite's energy is a great healer for the physical body, acting to drive out vibrations that cause dis~ease; this does not mean that one is not to visit the physician or alternative medicine provider of your choice. Hematite's energy for healing mental illnesses, such as bad moods, depressions, has to do with the ability of the stone to drive out the bad and leave the good; like a 'clearing' or a kind of 'purging'. Hematite helps the spirit/light bodies to balance and merge, alleviating the disjointed and down feeling of these mood swings and similar problems. This is accomplished by meditating with the stone, or by charging the stone and carrying it with you. Larger pieces can be charged and left in the environment for a period of time to 'clear the air' after any negative event has occurred in the room or house. One must be careful using hematite for such purposes, which are a sort of grounding or releasing and balancing of excess energies, overuse of hematite can sometimes cause one to feel 'heavy.' Wearing hematite if you have blood conditions such as a severe anemia, or if you have had, or currently have a form of cancer may cause you to have headaches and body aches. This has been reported to me by some patients that have had that experience. As with all things, this is not to take the place of medical advice, but given for your information. Experiencing these symptoms is also possible for other reasons, and does NOT mean if you use hematite and get a headache or body aches, that you have a form of cancer. A curious quality of hematite is that it appears to heal itself; some have made small scratches on the surface of the stones that may disappear when you rub your finger across the area. A necklace of the stones can be charged and worn for healing, grounding and stabilizing purposes, and keeping the attention focused on the physical plane; i.e. anti-space cadet attribute ;-). Hematite already has a shiny surface, and finding a sphere, or a 'mirror' is ideal for divination in the form of 'scrying.' Lighting a red candle [representative of the fire element governing the stone] and place it so the flame is reflected on the surface of the stone. Gazing upon the reflection, form the question you are seeking an answer to in your mind clearly. The answer will come to you, provided you are in the receptive mode after the visualization. Keep some writing material nearby, and write down whatever symbols, sounds, messages arise from your session.
