What Is The Support Group?

Support groups are formed by people who share concerns around a common situation or experience. Support groups are usually free of charge, and are facilitated by the members. No one in a group is a LEADER, for everyone has an equal opportunity to the leadership. Each member has something valuable to contribute to the group. After all, all of us know more than any of us! Our support group is confidential, and welcomes people of all backgrounds and sexual orientation.

There is still a stigma that support groups are for 'people who have problems'. This is not true. Support groups are for people who are willing to benefit through discussions and sharing of their feelings and ideas, and can give feelings of empowerment and accomplishment.

We do not discuss survivors. Our main and only objective is our own issues and emotions.

The information above applies to UIUC campus support groups and may or may not apply to other existing support groups.
