First, some background info on us. This is our first child and we're extremely excited. We've been planning this for 5 years now and can hardly wait for the little one to arrive.

We'll be birthing at an excellent hospital and are pretty happy with our OB. Currently we plan on breastfeeding, and using a diaper service. I will be returning to work full time, so we're starting to search for day care. We're also looking for a pediatrician.

I'm pretty busy, so I may not be updating this regularly, but I'll do the best I can. Right now I just plan on listing the dates of important events and my thoughts on them.

October 22?, 1998 - We conceived - right before our honeymoon at Disney World.
November 15, 1998 - I realized I was a little late and insisted on getting a home pregnancy test (we'd been planning this pregnancy and I'm just too impatient). Needless to say it was POSITIVE! :0)
November 16, 1998 - We went to the doctor's just to make sure I hadn't screwed up the test, and got confirmation.
November 26, 1998 - I started my morning sickness. YUCK!
December 3, 1998 - Our first visit to the OB, turned out to be just a consultation with the nurse.
January 7, 1999 - Our first OB appointment. I got a physical, and the doctor thought I was measuring a little large (by 2-4 weeks). We got to schedule an ultrasound for the next visit. Morning sickness is completely gone by now.
February 3, 1999 - We got to see our little one!!! I'm not as far along as the doctor thought, so the baby's smaller than expected. We didn't get to find out the gender, but are happy to see that the little one is doing fine. :0)
February 9, 1999 - Felt the first good kick from the little one (too weak to be felt from outside yet). I'm 18 weeks along.
February 22, 1999 - I felt the first kick from the outside. I was so excited! Daddy got to feel his first kick the next night (Feb. 23). I'm almost 20 weeks along.
March 22, 1999 - Daddy could see the little one moving from across the living room. Kicks/movements continue to get stronger and stronger.
March 23, 1999 - We got another ultrasound - and we're having a boy! We're so excited. We both had a feeling this would be a boy. We had an excellent ultrasound tech. She showed us everything - got to see all the internal organs: heart, kidneys, stomach, a very full little bladder. We also got five pictures to take home. His name will be Dominic Catarino Lopez.
March 31, 1999 - I can hear his heartbeat with a stethoscope.
April 20, 1999 - Our check up went well. The doctor spent a lot of time answering our questions. I was given a bottle of "glucola" to do the diabetes test. I get to drink the stuff at home and then an hour later go to one of the labs to have my blood drawn. I'm just glad I don't have to spend that hour sitting in the lab waiting room.
April 22, 1999 - We interviewed a pediatrician that we REALLY like. We think we're going to go with her. The practice is really laid back and everyone was super friendly and cheery. Because we both work, they let us come in at 6:30 p.m. to do the interview (this is something that our other choice wouldn't do). The practice is also associated with the local university's medical program - so all the doctors are teachers. This is nice because they should be up-to-date on the latest advancements.
May 8, 1999 - I took my gestational diabetes test this morning. I actually thought the orange stuff was pretty good, and I didn't feel sick at all. We'll see what the results are.
May 10, 1999 - We start our childbirth classes, something I've been really looking forward to.
May 11, 1999 - Well, I failed the one-hour GD test (my doctor makes everyone above 135 take the three-hour test and I had 138). I plan on taking the three-hour test on May 15.
May 25, 1999 - OB Appointment - Everything's going fine. Passed the three-hour test. My belly's been a little itchy, but the midwife says just to try some cocoabutter.
June 1, 1999 - Argh! A rash has broken out all over my body. It appeared on May 28 as just a few small spots on my left thigh, by today it's spread down my legs, from my wrists up my arms, and up my belly. We'll see what the doctor says.
June 2, 1999 - I am not a happy camper! I didn't get to see the doctor, just one of the nurses. She told me to just try taking my Claritin. I'm so itchy! I can't sleep. I think I have PUPP. If things aren't better by Thursday, I'm going back.
June 3, 1999 - Well, I went back to the doctor (and actually saw a doctor this time). He took one look at me and sent me to a dermatologist. The dermatologist said I do have PUPP and that I'm also allergic to the anti-itch lotion I've been using. Ugh. He gave me a cortisone shot, some prescription lotion, and told me to just take cold baths as often as possible. Because there isn't much info on the web about PUPP, I'm going to put together a page with some info and pictures of what the rash looks like. Hopefully I'll get around to doing this before Dom is born.
June 8, 1999 - I went back for a check up at the dermatologist. I got another cortisone shot. I'm doing better, but still quite itchy. The swelling is going down and I look much better. I still can't sleep through the night. The only thing that helps is a cold bath, and that gives me about 3 hours of relief. I'm up at 1 am and again at 4 am taking cold baths. At least I'm not having problems getting back to sleep after the baths.
June 15, 199 - My next dermatologist appointment.
July 2, 1999 - Our next OB appointment.
