Anne Sexton has probably been the most influencial confessional poet in my life. She has made me smile and made me cry so many times. Whenever I am having a hard time understanding life I pick up her book TRANSFORMATIONS and read "One Eye, Two Eyes, Three Eyes".
-Verse from "One Eye, Two Eyes, Three Eyes"
The Thalidomide babies
with flippers at their shoulders,
wearing their mechanical arms
like derricks.
The club footed boy
wearing his shoe like a flat iron.
The idiot child,
a stuffed doll who can only masturbate.
The hunchback carrying his hump
like a bag of onions...
Oh how we treausre
their scenic value."
Please remember that these are just some of my favorite of Anne Sexton's poetry...
Killing the Spring
A Letter to God
After Auschwitz
Riding The Elevator Into The Sky
