I WANT TO HELP OTHER PEOPLE

One of the most enjoying things you can do is help someone else. When you give of yourself it means more than any material gift.

One of the most fulfilling things you can do for someone else is listen. Have you ever been in a situation where you knew you could do something, or that you could not do anything at all, but, if you had someone to talk to it would be better? Sometimes all we need to do is hear what is going on in our lives, and that alone can give us the strength to make a change. Listening is effective, because it helps the person talking paint a picture of a problem, or of a situation. I can honestly say that I am a great listener, but I am a great talker, too.

One important thing to listening is being attentive. If your friend has a problem with her bills or with her boyfriend, or even with her cat, you should listen to it. It may turn out that the problem is much deeper that it seems. Too many of us call on our most trusted friends, and have them listen to our problems and never think twice about the fact that we do not return that favor. I have many friends, and all of them tell me, " I can always count on you to listen." Yet I can not say that about any of them. When you are not courteous enough to be there for people when they need you, you are showing that you are selfish and inconsiderate.

Another thing you can do is take control of what life has given you. If you are in a choir, see if you can organize visits to hospitals, and nursing homes, and orphanages to sing. Donate time, if you can, to worthwhile organizations, like Habitat for Humanity , the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, Big Brothers /Big Sisters programs and Mentoring programs. What ever you are, someone helped you to get where you are. Whether good or bad, someone's criticisms, hard word, disciplining and/or patience helped you to be what you are. Give back to the community.
