Farewell From the 1999 Senior Class of Guyan Valley High School

Written By:  Valerie Pritchard, Senior, Student Government President

As we walk through the doors of Guyan Valley one last time, we all leave with mixed emotions. Some happy to finally GRADUATE and move on to new lives, others Sad, knowing we may never see or talk to one another again. The past six years have been filled with Joy, Happiness, Knowledge, and Friendships.

When entering as 7th graders we were excited and overwhelmed, now, 6 years later, as we prepare to leave we feel these same emotions, with a dose of sadness added. It is time for us to go out into the world and make our dreams come true. As WILDCATS we have established PRIDE, CONFIDENCE, DISCIPLINE, and COURAGE in order to meet our futures.

The years spent here have been filled with many memories. The times we have shared together as a class - building floats for homecoming, competing in class tournaments, having parties, playing sports, and participating in various and numerous other activities will stay with us forever in our minds. The friendships we have made will remain long-lasting in our hearts. We have always been there for each other, through good times and bad, we always had a shoulder to lean on. We have been members of an extended family to one another, and like all families we have shared some bad times too, learning to live with one another, and accept each other for ourselves. We may have had our disagreements, but, in the end, after all, we always knew our family was there for us.

Together we have achieved great things during these 6 years. Whether it be a SPORTS CHAMPIONSHIP, BAND COMPETITIONS, ACADEMIC HONORS, or COMMUNITY SERVICE, we knew it always took TEAMWORK, and a TEAM was what we have been. We have always strived to be our best, a wonderful life lesson we have learned from the classrooms here at Guyan Valley. Each of us posses the potential for Greatness, as we have proven MANY times in the honors that we have captured for our school.

Looking around I see many friends, and classmates, some, like family, I have learned to love. I wouldn’t change the last 6 years for anything. It has been an opportunity for me to learn from you, and learn about myself. Remember to always be a light unto yourself.

To the rest of the students at GV I want to say thank you for allowing us to be a part of your lives, I hope we have been good to you, and have given you some small part of us that you may take along your life’s path. To the Faculty, THANK YOU for the lessons you have taught us, and the lamp you have lit along our path.

It is the end of our time in our HIGH SCHOOL Spotlight, but as we step forward, we can see there are many stars to brighten our way and guide us on our journeys. Let US Shine in whatever we choose. I urge EACH of you to participate in LIFE, life is a great race, but, you’ll never know if you have won, unless you run it. Remember time waits for noone.

A very wise person once told me, "Every ending is the start of a NEW beginning", As sad as we are to leave our extended family and our fellow teammates here at Guyan Valley,

TODAY IS OUR NEW BEGINNING.
