KEIRSEY HAS STILL MORE TO SAY:

ISFP

The SP letters stand for Sensing and Perception. Keirsey calls this the Dionysian temperament because in Greek mythology Dionysus symbolizes action. The four Myers-Briggs types that are associated with and behave like the SP temperament are: ISTP,ISFP, ESTP, and ESFP.

SPs are freedom loving and are born with a predisposition for the release of impulses through action. They are masters of focusing on the immediate situation and seekers of excitement, gravitating toward sports and similar activities. They consequently tend to surround themselves with fun-loving and spontaneous individuals who share their need for risk taking and adventure.

Skilled at manipulating tools and materials, SPs are often found anywhere they can have a concrete impact. Operating machines, negotiating, promoting, building, racing, constructing, and performing all suit the SP temperament.

In pursuit of adventure the SP may at times cross over the line of acceptable behavior drawn by others. If SPs find themselves in a restricted, routine, or constrained situation, they may become bored or "act out" against those who limit their freedom. SPs cannot rest until they have satisfied their desire for action.

The SP wants the freedom to act spontaneously without restraint and learns best through experience. The pleasure of hands-on and active learning situations inspire the SP, and opportunities to construct, operate, and manipulate objects will fulfill the SP's need for physical involvement in learning. A true SP thrives on competition and risk, and finds contests stimulating.

Instructional games, role playing, media presentations, dramatic plays, and challenging lessons are good ways to reach the SP.

Traditional lesson plans that include routine workbook and paper-and-pencil work do not interest the SP. If boredom sets in because of a rigid learning environment, the SP may create excitement through unconventional means. SPs are very effective at challenging the confines of such an environment and are also capable of extricating themselves from restrictive situations.
