"Then he said to Him, "If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here." Exodus 33:15
Cassie loves car rides. I am sure that the primary reason is that because car rides mean we are going to Grandma and Grandpa's house; to a promised land filled with a fenced in back yard, other dogs to play with, and at least four extra hands to pet her.
Grandma and Grandpa (my parents) live about a mile and a half from my house. Cassie knows the path we take to get there. I have no doubt that she could find the way if she were ever lost.
On this day we hopped in the car as always, me with videos in hand to be returned first. Cassie was her usual happy self, smiling, looking out the window and mistaking my hand reaching for the stick shift as an attempt to pet her. I took the usual path planning to drive past my parents house, drop off the videos and then go to their house.
As we drove past the house cassie looked from their house to me, the house to me, the house to me. I could read her doggie mind, "Wait! Stop! You missed it! Thats where we are going!!!" As my parents house passed from sight, Cassie turned to me and smiled again as if to say, "Thats ok I am with you. I trust you to take me where I need to go."
Immediately the Lord began to speak to me. How many times have I been happy because I thought I knew where the Lord was taking me..only to see Him pass the destination by? What was my attitude when the Lord would pass by where we needed to stop? If I had been Cassie riding along that day I would have barked and whined and cried at the Lord. "Where are you going? What are you doing? Cant you see that is where we need to go?" I may have even jumped from the car window.
Jesus is looking for the attitude of Cassie. "Thats ok I am with you. I trust you to take me where I need to go." Cassie had no idea that we were just making a short detour, she didnt know if we would ever get to where she wanted to go. She didnt care where we went as long as I was with her.
Lord Jesus help me to trust you completely. I give you permission to take me where You will, even if the road is not familiar and I dont know where we are going. I trust in Your word that says that Your Holy Spirit will lead and guide me into all truth. Thank you for Your perfect love. Amen. |
