Rosie's Army and Navy Needle Book Exhibit

According to a fellow collector, there are more than 20 different kinds of Army & Navy Needle Books. Each kind has different variations. For example the classical "Iowa" single ship was exported from Germany, Czechoslovakia, Japan, and was sometimes just marked "Foreign". The single ship kind comes named as Maryland, Massachusettes, No Name, etc. in addition to Iowa. These needle books often vary in color and have different illustrations on the backs. You often find them in little packets like this.

Click here to see an advertisement for the popular Iowa Army & Navy Needle Book from a 1933 Paty Needle Company Catalog.. You will not believe the prices.

I had wondered if these needle books made to send to GI's. An expert offered the following information: "These needle books were never sent to soldiers. They were marketed to the home crowd, and never during a war, but afterwards. They were usually produced by our former enemies, which shows you that money supersedes ideology".

Unfortunately, I do not yet have examples of all 20+ types. I am working on it. Below is a display of the Army & Navy Needle Books in my collection. Please click on small picture to see an enlarged version.
