WHAT IS FIONA BEVERAGE?
Fiona Beverage began as a 2 piece band in 1996 made up of sisters Kath and Liz dooley.They performed regularly at the INTERACTIVE ART GALLERY, but as neither of them knew much about music they didn't get too far.
In early 1997 they were joined by Rebekah Spurrier on bass and it's been no stopping since then. As an acoustic 3 piece they went on the win their heat of the Flinders Uni battle of the bands, much to the disgust of the 3 other all male rock/grunge outfits. In July they played at the debut 'Girls with Power Tools' show at the Producers, with Bird-e on drums. Bird-E had no drumming experience prior to joining Fiona Beverage and to avoid picking up skills in this area, he decided to leave after a year. Some memorable gigs from the Bird-E period were the 1998 Artery Party, and a January Melbourne tour.
In May 1998, after BIRD-E left, FIONA BEVERAGE were joined by MICHAEL (ex-Mandelbrot Set),a connection made by loyal fan Adam at the Exeter on a dark stormy nignt.Some memorable gigs at this time include a 3d radio fundraiser @ Madlove, the Melbourne GWPT's cd launch with JBD, NINETY-NINE and ARROSA,the Adelaide GWPT's launch @Madlove.
In THE START OF 2000, FB were again a 3 piece, completing a tour of Sydney and Melbourne in January. Warren, also of Adelaide band Brunatex, approached the band at a March FB/Ninety Nine gig @ the Swing Cat Club, and has been drumming away since.
FIONA BEVERAGE would basically describe ourslves as a pop band with a touch of folk/country/rock.Some bands we like include sonicyouth,ninety-nine,stereolab,sebadoh,folk implosion, paradise motel,cat power,and local bands like brunatex,thong, the retreads, moonies,jbd, hector, invidiosa, basically anyone off the GIRLS WITH POWER TOOLS cd.
