Happy Mother's Day Dear Moms, Moms In Laws, Grandmoms, Nanas, Godmothers, and special women in children's lives!
WORLD'S MEANEST MOTHER
I had the meanest mother in the whole world. While
other kids ate candy for breakfast, I had to have cereal, eggs and toast.
When others had coke and candy for lunch, I had to eat a sandwich. As you
can guess, my dinner was different too from other children.
My mother insisted in knowing where we were at all
times. You'd think we were on a chain gang. She had to know who our friends
were and what we were doing. She insisted that if we said we'd be gone for
an hour, that we would be gone for an hour or less.
I am ashamed to admit it, but she actually had the
nerve to break the child labor law. She made us work! We had to learn to
wash dishes, make beds, learn to cook and all sorts of cruel things. I believe
she lay awake nights thinking up mean things for us to do.
She always insisted on telling us the truth, the whole
truth and nothing but the truth. By the time we were teenagers she was much
wiser, and our lives became rougher.
None of this tooting the horn of a car for us to come
running. She embarrassed us no end by making our dates and friends come to
the door to get us. I forgot to mention, while my friends were dating at
the mature age of 12 and 13, my old-fashioned mother refused to let me date
until I was 15 and 16.
My mother was a complete failure as a mother. None
of us has ever been arrested, or beaten a spouse. Each of my brothers served
his time in the service of his country. And who do we have to blame for this
terrible way we turned out? You are right, our mean mother.
Look at all the things we missed. We never got to
take part in a riot, burn our draft cards and a million and one other things
that our friends did. She made us grow up into respectful, educated, honest
adults.
Using this as a background, I am trying to raise my
children. I stand a little taller and I am filled with pride when my children
call me mean. You see, I thank God, He gave me the meanest mother in the
whole world. I think the world could use more mean moms and dads.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you hang my first painting on the refrigerator, and I wanted to paint another one.
When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you feed a stray cat, and I thought it was good to be kind to animals.
When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you make my favorite cake for me, and I knew that little things are special things.
When you thought I wasn't looking, I heard you say a prayer, and I believed there is a G-d I could always talk to.
When you thought I wasn't looking, I felt you kiss me goodnight, and I felt loved.
When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw tears come from your eyes, and I learned that sometimes things hurt, but it's all right to cry.
When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw that you cared and I wanted to be everything that I could be.
When you thought I wasn't looking, I looked . . . . and wanted to say thanks for all the things I saw when you thought I wasn't looking. author Unknown
My Mother
For as long as I can remember you have been by my side to give me support to give me confidence to give me help
For as long as I can remember you have always been the person I looked up to so strong so sensitive so pretty
For as long as I can remember and still today you are everything a mother should be
For as long as I can remember you have always provided stability within our family full of laughter full of tears full of love
So much of what I have become is because of you and I want you to know that I appreciate you, thank you and love you more than words can express
-Poem by Susan Polis Schutz
You have shown me how to give of myself You have shown me leadership You have taught me to be strong You have taught me the importance of the family You have demonstrated unconditional love You have demonstrated a sensitivity to people's needs You have handed down to me the important values in life You have handed down to me the idea of achieving one's goals You have set an example, throughout your life of what an ideal mother and woman should be like I am so proud of you and I love you forever Poem by Susan Polis Schutz
"Time flies,"everyone says. It's frightening sometimes to look in the mirror and see the evidence of that. So often, we don't take a moment to say what's in our hearts, and then, when it's too late, we wish we had. I'm taking a moment now, Mom, to tell you this... When I was a child, there was so much I couldn't understand, like how hard you worked and how much you sacrificed for our family. There were dreams you had to put on hold and dreams that never came true. You must have felt frustrated sometimes, no doubt, and at times even full of despair. Yet you never gave less than your best to us. You didn't have an exciting career or beautiful clothes. You never traveled the world or drove a fancy car. Every day, you looked after us, worried about us, fed us, and loved us, without expecting anything in return. You see, Mom, I know now and understand that you actually gave me two lives: my own... and yours.
-- Cheryl Van Gieson
Your heart is big. Your love is pure. You want the best for me and care about everything I'm going through. You often put my needs above your own and overlook my mistakes. You love me without condition. Whatever I am and whatever I do is okay with you. You accept me... all of me. You're more than I could have ever hoped for in a mother. You're my perfect mother, and I'm so thankful for you.
You're always there: to hear my complaints, to share my joy, to feel my pain, to listen to my latest adventure, to advise me, to cry with me and hope for me and laugh with me, to forgive me when I do something dumb. I've never heard a harsh word from you that wasn't justified. I've never seen selfishness from you... only a mother who gives her love freely, happily, joyfully, and perfectly.
If I looked the world over, I could never find a mother more perfect than you. If I could choose anyone at all for my mom, I'd choose you. I'm so lucky that God put me in your family and gave me you for a mother. After all, I wouldn't be me, without you. You're my perfect mother, and I love you and appreciate you more than I could ever express. I hope and pray that you're happy and that your every dream comes true. I pray for your perfect health and unlimited joy.

You Mom fill our home with LOVE
M - O - T - H - E - R "M" is for the million things she gave me, "O" means only that she's growing old, "T" is for the tears she shed to save me, "H" is for her heart of purest gold; "E" is for her eyes, with love-light shining, "R" means right, and right she'll always be,
Put them all together, they spell "MOTHER," A word that means the world to me.
Howard Johnson (c. 1915)
When God Made Moms
When the good Lord was creating mothers!!!!! He was into His sixth day of "overtime when the angel appeared and said, "You're doing a lot of fiddling around on this one." AND THE LORD SAID....."Have you read the specs on this order? She has to be completely washable, but not plastic. Have 180 moveable parts... all replaceable. Run on black coffee and leftovers. Have a lap that disappears when she stands up, a kiss that can cure anything from a broken leg to a disappointed love affair, and six pairs of hands." And the angel shook her head slowly and said, "Six pairs of hands...no way." "It is not the hands that are causing me problems," said the Lord, "It's the three pairs of eyes that mothers have to have." "That's on the standard model?" asked the angel. THE LORD NODDED....One pair that sees through closed doors when she asks "What are you kids doing in there?" when she already knows. Another here in the back of her head that sees what she shouldn't, but what she has to know; and of course the ones here in front that can look at a child when he goofs up and say, "I understand and I love you", without so much as uttering a word." "Lord", said the angel touching his sleeve gently, "go to bed, tomorrow...." "I can't", said the Lord, "I'm so close to creating something so close to myself. Already I have one who heals herself when she is sick.... can feed a family of six on one pound of hamburger, and can get a nine year old to stand under a shower." The angel circled the model of a mother very slowly. "It's too soft", she sighed. "But tough!" said the Lord excitedly. You cannot imagine what this mother can do or endure." "Can it think?" "Not only can it think, but it can reason and compromise", said the Creator. Finally the angel bent over and ran her finger across the cheek. "There's a leak", she pronounced. "I told you, you were trying to put too much into this model." "It's not a leak", said the Lord. "It's a tear". "What's it for?" "It's for joy, sadness, disappointment, pain, loneliness and pride." "You're a genius", said the angel. THE LORD LOOKED SOMBER..... "BUT I DIDN'T PUT IT THERE". author unknown
I dedicate this mothers day page to all moms, grandmoms, stepmoms, mom in laws, godmothers, etc. With a special wish to my mom, my 80 year old grandma Sally and my 83 year old grandma Izzy.......three women who I am so fortunate to have in my life, who have taught me the value of a wonderful life, who have held my hand when I needed it and let me spread my wings and soar when I felt strength to be me. They have taught me the meaning of life, love and happiness. I Love you my dear three strong role models my grandma's and my mom!
"Motherhood"
The dearest gifts that heaven holds, The very finest, too, Were made into one pattern That was perfect, sweet, and true; The Angels smiled, well-pleased, and said: "Compared to all the others, This pattern is so wonderful Let's use it just for Mothers!" And through the years, a Mother Has been all that's sweet and good For there's one bit of God and love, In all true Motherhood.

One of the greatest joys I have ever known is being a mommy. This next poem I will keep for my children, and when they are old enough, I will give it to them. It speaks with wisdom and true thoughts that I face as a mother of "today's" generation. "Reflections of a Mother"
I gave you life, but cannot live it for you. I can teach you things, but I cannot make you learn. I can give you directions, but I cannot be there to lead you. I can allow you freedom, but I cannot account for it. I can take you to church, but I cannot make you believe. I can teach you right from wrong, but I cannot always decide for you. I can buy you beautiful clothes, but I can not make you beautiful inside.
I can offer you advice, but I cannot accept it for you. I can give you love, but I cannot force it upon you. I can teach you to share, but I cannot make you unselfish. I can teach you respect, but I cannot force you to show honor. I can advise you about friends, but cannot choose them for you. I can advise you about sex, but I cannot keep you pure. I can tell you the facts of life, but I can't build your reputation. I can tell you about drink, but I can't say "no" for you.
I can warn you about drugs, but I can't prevent you from using them. I can tell you about lofty goals, but I can't achieve them for you. I can teach you about kindness, but I can't force you to be gracious. I can warn you about sins, but I cannot make you moral. I can love you as a child, but I cannot place you in God's family. I can pray for you, but I cannot make you walk with God. I can teach you about Jesus, but I cannot make Jesus your Lord. I can tell you how to live, but I cannot give you eternal life.
I can love you with unconditional love all of my life ... and I will.

"Why Mothers Cry" "Why are you crying?" he asked his mom.
"Because I'm a mother," she told him.
"I don't understand," he said.
His mom just hugged him and said,
"You never will!"
Later the little boy asked his father why Mother seemed to cry for no reason.
"All mothers cry for no reason," was all his dad could say.
The little boy grew up and became a man, still wondering why mothers cry. So he finally put in a call to God, and when God got on the phone the man said, "God, why do mothers cry so easily?"
God said, "You see son, when I made mothers they had to be special.
I made their shoulders strong enough to carry the weight of the world, yet gently enough to give comfort.
I gave them an inner strength to endure childbirth and the rejection that many times come from their children.
I gave them a hardiness that allows them to keep going when everyone else gives up, and to take care of their families through sickness and fatigue without complaining.
I gave them the sensitivity to love their children under all circumstances, even when their child has hurt them very badly. This same sensitivity helps them to make a child's boo-boo feel better and helps them share a teenager's anxieties and fears.
I gave them a tear to shed. It's theirs exclusively to use whenever it's needed. It's their only weakness.
It's a tear for mankind." ~ Author Unknown by me ~
My email:
I would like to make a special prayer today........ A prayer for all the moms who have lost a child. Be it a tragedy such as Littleton Colo. or terminal illness of a child. You dear moms are in my thoughts and prayers and this next poem is for you! A CHILD ON LOAN
I'll Lend you for a little while A child of mine he said. For you to love the while she lives, And mourn for when she's dead.
It may be six or seven years Or twenty two or three But will you till I call her back Take care of her for me?
She'll bring her charms to gladden you And should her stay be brief, You'll have her lovely memories, As solace for your grief.
I cannot promise she will stay Since all from earth shall return, But there are lessons taught down there I want this child to learn.
I've looked this wide world over In search for teachers true And from the thorns that crowd lifes lanes I have selected you.
Now will you give her all your love Not think the labor vain? Nor hate me when I come to call And take her back again.
I fancied I heard them say "Dear Lord thy will be done" For all the joy the child shall bring The risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter her with tenderness We'll love her while we may, And for the happiness we've known, Forever grateful stay.
But should the Angels call for her Much sooner than we planned We'll brave the bitter grief that comes AND TRY TO UNDERSTAND!!!!!!
