3/19/1944--9/28/1995 Nancy was a 1962 Graduate of Atlanta,Texas High School, and a 1966 Graduate of NTSU in Denton,Tx. She taught in Dallas Public School systems for 7 1/2 years before her health caused her early retirement. You see Nancy had MS.
She had her own television program, "Flight Six" on early childhood education on public television in Dallas,Tx. A member of Chi Omega Sorority, 500 Inc.& National Multiple Sclerosis Society. She was National M.S. spokesperson and in ceremonies at the White House was named M.S. Mother of the year in 1982 by President Ronald Reagan.
Nancy was much more than that to me see I was her caregiver for the last 5 years of her life along with her mother, sister and husband. I met Nancy in early 1990 to take care of her while her regular helper took a vacation, we connected so well her mom ask me if I would be interested in full time as she needed the extra help as she was 72 years old at this time.
Nancy and I became close friends very quickly I was told things by her no one else has ever known. We were talking one day and she said Sue I have a big favor to ask you, I said ask away I was not ready for what was to come next. I will never forget that day,you know she said M.S. is going to get me someday and I want to ask you to be here with me untill that day comes, can you do that for me? I loved her, their was no way I could have told her no.
Nancy ,myself and her family spent countless days in Hospitals for the last 2 years of her life thinking time and time again this is it she can't survive another battle. She was so strong willed and would fool all of us including her physian Dr.Lowell Veren.
M.S. rendered her totally helpless with feeding tube/trach/breathing treatment and a load of medicine each day,but Nancy always had that smile, never complained about the hand she had been delt. All the nurses that meet her didn't understand how she could smile in her condition , she was a inspiration to all that meet her. All the time we spent together I never heard her say a bad thing about anyone, and I sure didn't hear anything but praise from all that knew her.
Nancy is gone now and I can still see her smile, remember the good times we had and yes she did have good times in those years. She always looked forward to her husband, sons, and sisters visits on the weekends. She would tell me on Friday David & Chris will be here,I miss them, what wife and mother wouldn't. Nancy wanted to be more of a wife and mother ,she regreated not getting to do all the things she wanted to do with her son,she loved him alot,as she did her husband David . Thank You David for sticking it out and doing all you could for her I know how helpless you felt as you told me yourself. I know you loved her.
This is to Patsy Hunt Nancy's Mom, you did all you could to make life as full as you could. Always there to talk to her and keep her up to date on the world. You were a real trooper a lady with alot of spunk most people your age had someone waiting on them. I admire you for your strength lady I Love You. She is my Mom now too.
Now I have told you just a little about Nancy their is tons I have left out but their 2 more reasons I have told you of Nancy. One is to make others aware that people with M.S. are real PLEASE read the next page about crippling desease and what you can do for the cause for a cure.
The second reason I wanted to tell you about her is so you will know I made my decision to become a nurse thats right at the age of 40, after years of putting it off I had 1 more promise to fulfill for Nancy FRIEND WE DID IT I AM THE NURSE YOU WANTED ME TO BE!! Love and remember you always Sue Williams L.V.N.
