          OUR FAVORITE SEASON !

TO EVERYTHING THERE IS A SEASON
AND A TIME TO EVERY PURPOSE
          UNDER THE HEAVEN

          Ecclesiastes 3

          A SEASON OF
          CONTEMPLATION,
          A CHANCE TO REMEMBER
          DAYS GONE BY
          AND TO PLAN
          NEW PATHS FOR THE FUTURE

          THE COLORS OF FALL

Filling the sky with crimson and gold,
          Leaves scatter without a sound.
          Carelessly dancing in the
          crisp autumn air,
they gently cascade to the ground.
          Covering the earth like a
          warm blanket,
          of brilliant color and beauty,
the changing of the season beckons
for all the world to see.

          SUMMER TIME
          IS GONE MY FRIENDS

Summer time is gone my friends,
It slowly comes but quickly ends.
It's been replaced by time called Autumn.
Nature changes hues from top to bottom
Green gives way to red and gold.
          A lovely vision to behold.
          Whirling leaves go blowing by
          Carrying smells of pumpkin pie.
The air turns crisp the sky fades grey. Indian corn and bales of hay.
          Overcoats and apple cider.
No more evenings on the glider.
The harvest moon so orange and round
          Holidays will soon abound.
          Chrysanthemum petals start to unfold
          A lovely vision to behold.

          AUTUMN - -
          A season of gathering
          a time to collect
          nature's bountiful harvests
          and to admire the beauty
          of colorful falling leaves.

          AUTUMN LEAVES

          Sweep the leaves together,
          Yellow, brown and red,
          Let us make a bonfire
          Now that they are dead.

          Chestnut leaves and beech leaves,
          Ash and lime and oak,
          Fir-cones and pine needles
          Kindle into smoke.

          Leaves that all the summer
          Gave us cool and shade--
What will be left of them
          When our bonfire's made?

          Only death-like ashes,
          But from this same dust
          Suns one day will fashion
          Life anew, we trust.

          AUTUMN SONG
          Arlette Lees Baker

When autumn bites the brittle air,
          We raid the cedar chest
For patchwork quilts and fluffy downs
          To line our winter nest.

We gather chestnuts in the woods
          To roast before the snows
And ball our scarlet yarn for socks
          To toast our winter toes.

We bunch our beds beneath the beams
And cut a length of log
And share the cracking woodbox warmth
With cat and mouse and dog.

We save a sad, sweet memory
          For summers burning bright
Then cuddle up with cocoa cups
          To greet the frosty night.

          Nature's
          Fall
          Garden
          Loise Pinkerton Fritz

          The treetops are sun-touched
          Along country lanes
          That wend through the meadows
          And woodland terrain.
          The leaves are so beauteous
          With color aflame,
          Since nature is singing
          Its autumn refrain.

          Near fence rows grow sumacs
          All coned with bright red,
          And bordering these beauties
          Are goldenrod beds.
Sun's rays touch the earth shades
          And highlight each hue
          Of nature's fall garden
          As autumn skips through.

          OCTOBER SONG

          It's showering yellow leaves today,
          The lowmost limbs are bare,
          And there's a lusty pungency,
          Like challenge, in the air.

          I'll take your challenge, Autumn,
Lay down my years, my load,
To roam like a child in the woodland
          And down the river road.

Then when age makes me prisoner
This zest, this tang, shall stay
And set my old lips singing
          It's showering leaves today!

          NOVEMBER WOODS

          Lovely are the silent woods
          in gray November days,
When the leaves fall red and gold
          about the quiet ways,
          From massive beech, majestic oak
          and birches white and slim,
Like the pilared aisles of a cathedral
          vast and dim.

          Drifting mist like smoking incense
          hangs upon the air--
Along the paths where birds once sang
the trees stand stripped and bare,
          Making Gothic arches
          with their branches interlaced,
          And windows framing vistas,
          richly wrought and finely traced.

It is good to be in such a place
          on such a day--
          Problems vanish from the mind
          and sorrows steal away;
In the woods of gray November
          silent and austere,
          Nature gives her benediction
          to the passing year.
