From the President's Pen

As we start the new millennium, I am excited about taking on the reins as your new president for the Year 2000. I have big shoes to follow and hope that I can fill them half as well as those who came before me as president. Thank you for the confidence you have placed in me by electing me as your president. I promise you that I will do the very best that I can to lead our club in the coming year. I also promise you that I will be calling on each and every member to help me in this task. Thanks to all the members who said "YES" when I called on them to serve as committee chairs. We have a great leadership team for the coming year. It is extremely important that you make every effort to attend our June Planning Meeting. Hope we can have 100% participation. We will be gathering in committees during our business meeting and finalizing our goals and the strategies needed to achieve those goals. We will also be discussing activities that our club will be involved with in the coming year. See you at the planning place in June.

Kathy

Happy Birthday

Altrusa Principle #6
Altrusa commends its members an active interest in public affairs, realizing that the State is but the individual writ large.

June Funny
"You must be the worst caddie in the world," said the dejected golfer after a disastrous afternoon on the links. "I doubt it, sir," replied the caddie. "That would be too much of a coincidence."

A man may die, nations may rise and fall, but an idea lives on. Ideas have endurance without death.
--John F. Kennedy

June Meeting

General Membership Meeting & Committee Meetings. This is your chance to help brainstorm ideas for new projects with your committee-we need your input!

May Meeting

Altrusa had its Membership Tea in lieu of the regular Program/Business Meeting. Thanks to all who brought the delicious goodies.

International Relations Committee Project

Kay Miller, Committee Chair, contacted International about sponsoring a club in Cairo. The reply was that the International Board has to first approve Cairo as an area for Altrusa clubs. Since we had already agreed that we would sponsor a club there, Kay wrote the necessary letter to the International Board asking that Cairo be approved.

Get Involved In Your Community

The Montgomery Community Dispute Resolution Program is sponsoring Basic Mediation Skills training where participants will become certified mediators. This training is very beneficial in ALL professions (as well as in everyday life) as it exposes participants to an alternative approach to solving problems. If anyone is interested, see Katie Rotton.

Leadership Responsibilities…
Coming Together is a Beginning
Keeping Together is Progress

Science may have found a cure for most evils; but it has found no remedy for the worst of them all-the apathy of human beings.
--Helen Keller

A daddy was listening to his child say his prayer "Dear Harold". At this, dad interrupted and said, "Wait a minute. How come you called God, Harold?" The little boy looked up and said, "That's what they call Him in church. You know the prayer we say, "Our Father, who art in Heaven, Harold be Thy name."
