Minutes From March 15, 2001 Business Meeting

The March 15, 2001, meeting of Altrusa International of Montgomery was held at the Capital City Club. Nineteen members and three guests were in attendance. The Literacy Committee sponsored the program for the evening. Caroline Barmettler introduced the speaker, Joann Schum, director of the HIPPY Program. This is a Home Instruction Program for Preschool Youngsters, which operates under the direction of the Montgomery City/County School System.

The business meeting was called to order by the president, Kathy Alred. The treasurer, Linda Haigler, reported that the General Operating Fund has a balance of $338.18 and the Special Projects Fund has a balance of $5,073.16 as of 3-14-01. The report was approved. Dues notices were distributed to those members present. The secretary read a letter of appreciation from the Sunshine Center for the guest packages prepared by the Community Service Committee.

Committee Reports: Community Service chairman, Liz McCurty thanked members for their contributions for the Sunshine Center project, and especially thanked Jo Coleman for her assistance in assembling the packages. Kay Miller, International Relations Chair, stated that the committee planned to have a program in May concerning the growing Hispanic population in Montgomery. Membership Chairman, Jo Coleman, reported that one member had requested a classification change. She is looking forward to receiving the new member applications resulting from the reception in February.

The April meeting, hosted by the Fundraising Committee, will focus on the cruise event and the presentation of the club's gift to the Success By Six Program. The drawing for the cruise will take place at this meeting. Kathy suggested that the Altrusa Club present a plaque to Liz Sutton at the April meeting in appreciation for her support of the project. Docie Haslam volunteered to get the plaque.

Courtesy/Concerns: A get-well card was circulated for Marsha Mixon, who is in the Rehabilitation Hospital for several weeks. A request was made for members to send birthday cards to Mary Frances Porterfield who has moved to Tallahassee, Florida.

Nell Sellers presented the following slate of officers recommended by the nominating committee:

Kathy Alred announced to the members that she has been assigned by her employer to a project in Nashville for six months. She will be home only on weekends during that time, but will continue her obligations to the club through correspondence and other communications. She is grateful to Dawn for filling-in during her absence.

There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned.
