I have two children from two previous marriages, both boys.
My youngest, Joey (8), lives with me.
My oldest, Marcel (12), lives with his father and
stepmother in Germany. I don't have custody or visitation rights
for my oldest, and I don't think he even knows I exist.
Giving up custody to my first husband wasn't an easy decision, but the hardest thing I ever had to do. At the time I wasn't able to take very well care of myself, nevertheless of a 2 year old. I hit rock bottom emotionally, physically and financially and would have pulled him down with me if i had kept him. It was the best thing I could do for him to give him the opportunity for a good life.
MarcelI don't have contact with his father either, my mother stayed in touch with him til Marcel turned 5. But I assume because the lil guy probably started asking questions they decided to break off contact with my mom as well. She gets some information from my ex inlaws from time to time, but very little.
So for the time being I just sit back and keep hoping that when he is 18 he will find out what happend and that he'll have the desire to meet his birthmother. I know I will never be able to take his stepmothers place, since she has been raising and cared for him all these years. But i hope that I at least get the chance to become his friend and become a part of his life to some extent.
JoeyJoey and I have a very close bond. Maybe because of past lessons learned, maybe because he was very sick when he was born. But whatever the reason, I enjoy every moment we have together. I have sole physical and legal custody of him, but he gets to spend time with Dad during the summers. He was born with a birthdefect, but after several operations he is fine now, thank goddess. I wouldn't know what I'd do without him.
