| The Majestic was launched on June 29, 1889 and delivered March 22, 1890. At the time of delivery, she was 9,965 GRT. She made her maiden voyage on April 2, 1890 from Liverpool to New York, via Queenstown. In July 1891 the Majestic gained the 'Blue Riband' for the westward run with a time of 5 days, 18 hours, 8 minutes at 20.1 kts average speed. However, she lost it a month later to her sister ship Teutonic. From December 1899 until March 1900, she was in service as Boer War troop transport. During this time she made two voyages to Cape Town. During 1902 she was at Harland & Wolff for alterations which included new boilers, funnels lengthened by 10 ft, and the two after-masts replaced by one new one. Her tonnage was then listed at 10,147 GRT. Early in 1903 she was on the Liverpool-Queenstown-New York service. In 1907 her terminal was transferred to Southampton. She then made her first voyage from Southampton to New York on June 26, 1907. In 1911 she became a reserve vessel for White Star and by November she was laid up. In May 1912 she re-entered service following the loss of the Titanic. On October 17, 1913 the Majestic rescued the crew of the French schooner Garonne. In 1914 she was sold to T.W Ward for breaking up. On May 10, 1914 she arrived in Morecambe, where she was broken up. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
