War of 1812

CANADIAN CORPS OF VOYAGEURS. During the War of 1812, American invasion could have proven detrimental to the British Government and to the North West Fur Company, alike. In October 1812 William McGillivray was given the rank of Lt. Colonel and instructed to arm a company of voyageurs made up of North West Company engagees. Officers of this newly armed corps came from the Scottish gentlemen partners and clerks of the NW Company. The Corps disbanded in March 1813 in Lachine, Quebec, after serving in engagements at St. Regis (23 Oct.) and LaColle (20 Nov.) in 1812. DEMEURON'S. The swiss DeMeuron regiment served in North America under the british flag during the period of 1813-1815. The DeMeurons served in the New York and Plattsburgh Campaigns of 1813 and 1814. 8th REGIMENT of FOOT. The King's.The King's Regiment was posted to the Canadas in 1806. The Regt. served in every Fort and Post around the Great Lakes. By the end of the War of 1812 both Battalions were serving in Upper Canada. Some battles of note, in which the Regt. was involved, are York, Chippawa, Fort Erie, Fort Niagara, just to name a few. The King's men are re-enactors of the 8th Regiment of Foot, who hail mainly form the Greater Toronto Are, as well as London (Upper Canada), Alliston, and Orangeville. We are a group of seasoned, highly motivated re-enactors, whose goal is the accurate portrayal of the life of the common soldier, serving in the War of 1812. 89th REGIMENT of FOOT. Light Infantry Company. Red coats with black facings and grey trousers, Belgic shakos with green wool tufts. The 89th. Regiment of Foot was one of the Regiments which played a vital role in Canada, participating in the Battles of Crysler's Farm, Lundy's Lane, Black Rock during the War of 1812. ROYAL SCOTS. Light Company 1st Battalion 1st Regiment of Foot. This coy came to Canada from the Caribbean in 1812 with the Battalion and made its way steadily west to be garrisoned in Delaware in 1814. The Battalion participated in most of the Major battles in the Niagara Peninsula and earned the battle honour ‘NIAGARA’ for its service. Based in the London area this family friendly unit is always looking for soldiers to fill the line for both line and light duties of the British Army. CANADIAN REGIMENT OF FENCIBLE INFANTRY, LIGHT COMPANY. The Regiment portrays a canadian unit from the war of 1812 fighting against the United States. The Light Company wears a Yellow faced, winged redcoats with white trousers, stove pipe shakos, green tufts and knee gaiters make this a sharp looking unit. LES VOLTIGEURS CANADIENS. The Canadian Voltigeurs were a light infantry unit that drew it’s recruits primarily from Lower Canada (Quebec). They fought with distinction during the War of 1812 at such actions as The Battle of Chateauguay and Crysler’s Farm. Today, the Voltigeurs can be found at 1812 events throughout Ontario and Northern New York. Les Voltigeurs are comprised of 8 members, dressed in the distinctive grey, trimmed black uniforms of the Voltigeurs. We are a new unit (formed spring, 1995), and are looking for recruits in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec. INCORPORATED MILITIA OF UPPER CANADA. The Incorporated Militia of Upper Canada is based in Toronto and draws members from Mississauga, Newmarket and the Lindsay areas. We currently are involved with re-enactment events at Ogdensberg NY, Longwoods Ontario, Stoney Creek, Hamilton, Lang Pioneer Village, Fort Erie, Bachus Mills and Fort George. FORCES of LORD SELKIRK. The Forces of Lord Selkirk re-enacts Regiments of the War of 1812 and Lord Selkirk's Expedition to the Red River settlement in 1816-17. The units portrayed are: De Meuron's Swiss Regiment, De Watteville's Swiss Regiment and the 37th (North Hampshire) Regiment. The group currently recruits from Manitoba, Ontario, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois. ROYAL NEWFOUNDLAND REGIMENT, Bulger’s Company. The unit is based in Midland/Penetanguishene, Ontario. We participate in parades, local events, and 1812 period re-enactment events throughout southern Ontario. As well as re-enacting and interpreting the significant role played by the RNR in the war of 1812, particularly in securing the Upper Great Lakes for the British, we also enjoy making history come to life through education and demonstrations of period activities and life. DOLSEN'S RIFLES. Dolsen's Rifles is a re-enactment group portraying Number 5 Company of the 1st Regiment Kent Militia as they would have been during the War of 1812. Kent County is in southwestern Ontario Canada about 50 miles east of Detroit Michigan. Armed with Baker Rifles and dressed in the distinctive green tunics with red collars and cuffs this unit of Upper Canadian Militia helped with the capture of Fort Detroit.Contact us by Email: lalozon@mnsi.net

THE NORFOLK MILITIA. It began July 14th, 1796 with an oath of true Allegiance to His Majesty King George III. Today, the Heritage Regiment is a family oriented organization dedicated to preseving our heritage by portraying the regiment as it was during the War of 1812. As Major John Backhouse was an officer of this regiment, we host the War of 1812 living history days at Backus Conservation Area the second week-end of September. GLENGARY LIGHT INFANTRY FENCIBLES. Raised in December of 1811, the Glengarry Light Infantry was to help the meager British Defense of the Canada's, in the impending war with the United States. Chiefly made up from Scots, from the Glengarry County, the unit was classified as "Fencibles," meaning they wouldn't fight outside their province or on foreign soil (both of which they did). As a Light Infantry Regiment, the "Glens" wore Black cross-belt equipment and adopted the uniform of Britain's 95th Rifles. During the "War of 1812," the Glengarries "Distinguished" themselves in actions at Ogdensburg, York, Fort George, Fort Oswego, Chippawa, Lundy's Lane, Cooks Mills, and earned the Battle Honour "Niagara."
