1.     Edmond Bishop, emigrant of this branch of the family, came to America before 1640, for in that year he settled in that part of Salem village which is now Beverly.  He m. Hannah _____, who d. before 1680, and he m. 2nd, Bedet[i] Oliver, widow of Thomas Oliver.  She was executed as a witch, June 10, 1692, and he m. 3rd, Mar. 9, 1693, Elizabeth Cash.  He was a farmer and sawyer, and d. before 1715.  His children, all by first wife were: Hannah, Edward, and Mary. 

2.     Edward Bishop, son of Edmund (1), was b. in 1648, and was baptized Apr. 23 of that year.  He m. Sarah Wilds[ii] of Tipsfield, Mass., and lived in Salem Village until 1703, when he removed to Rehobath, Mass., where he was an inn-holder. He d. there, May 12, 1711.  His children were: Edward, Samuel, Jonathan, and Ebenezer. 

3.     Edward Bishop, son of Edward (2), was born in Salem Village, Mass., about 1680; m. Susannah _____.  He resided in Salem Village, Ipswich, and Newbury, Mass.  His sons were: Josiah, James, Daniel, and Benjamin. 

4.     Josiah Bishop, son of Edward (3), m. Sarah Adams, dau, of Thomas Adams.  He lived in Ipswich until about 1727, when he removed to Newbury, Mass., and about 1740 he removed to Boscawen, NH.  He had eight children b. in Ipswich, and four in Newbury.  Soon after coming to Boscawen, he commenced clearing land.  In the summer of 1746, while working in the field at Boscawen, he was surprised by Indians and captured, and because of his resistance he was slain and scalped, and his body was thrown into the Merrimac [Merrimack] river.  His children were: Enos [5], Bethia, Hannah, who m. George Jackman (see), Sarah, Susannah, Jeremiah, Lydia, Benjamin, and Jemima.  Probably his wife never came to Boscawen. 

5.     Enos Bishop, son of Josiah (4), was b. in Ipswich, Mass., Jan. 31, 1705; m. in Newburyport, Mass., Nov. 21, 1749, Elizabeth Belamy.  He came to Boscawen soon after his father's death, probably taking his farm.  In 1754, when the Indians made their memorable attack on the cabin of the family of Philip Call, Enos Bishop was one of thirteen men sent in pursuit of the enemy.  The company fell into an ambush, and he with others were captured and taken to Canada.  Enos finally escaped and returned to Boscawen.  He probably removed to Haverhill, as the birth of his son Enos is recorded there.  He served in Capt. James Osgood's company of rangers upon the Northern frontiers in 1775, and early in 1776, he served in Col. Timothy Bedel's regiment, and in the fall of the same year, he enlisted in the Continental service in Col. Cilley's regt., and was reported sick, Jan. 10, 1778, and d. while he was in the service.

i.                Josiah [6], b. Oct. 7, 1750.

ii.              Mary, b. Mar. 12, 1752.

iii.            Susannah, b. Dec. 15, 1753; m. Thomas Gray and went to Lisbon.  She d. in Lisbon, Sept. 3, 1836.  She had no children.

Children by 2nd wife:[iii]

iv.             John, b. Dec. 10, 1757. He was a Rev. soldier, and was living in Lyman as late as 1840, at which time he was a pensioner.

v.               Elizabeth, b. Jan. 31, 1760.

vi.             Sarah, b. Jan. 31, 1762.

vii.           Hannah, b. May 17, 1764.

viii.         Benjamin, b. Oct. 22, 1766; m. Cynthia Jorden of Lancaster. He was a blacksmith, and was known as the 'Swearing Blacksmith'.  He owned a farm in Northfield, and afterwards one in Lisbon.  He moved to Lancaster, where his wife was converted under the preaching of Rev. Joseph Crawford, and became widely known as a powerful exhorter.  Benjamin was prevailed to attend the preaching of Rev. Elijah Sabin, and became converted, and became a Methodist preacher.  He joined the New England Conference on trial in 1805, and was ordained Deacon at Monmouth, Me., June 19, 1809, and elder at Barnard, Vt., July 24, 1811.  He was appointed at Bridgewater, N.H. in 1805, Grantham in 1806, Tuftonboro in 1809, Falmouth, Me. in 1810, at Wethersfield, Vt. in 1811; located there 1812.  They both lived to a good old age.  She d. in Lisbon, June 11, 1844, aged 68.  They had no children.

ix.             Enos [7], b. Nov. 21, 1769. 

6.     Josiah Bishop, son of Enos (5), was b. in Boscawen, N.H., Oct 7, 1750; m. 1st, Sally Martin, dau. of William Martin (see)[iv].  He m. 2nd, Esther Aldrich, b. in Douglas, Mass., Mar. 26, 1756, dau. of Edward Aldrich (5).  She d. June 23, 1793, and he m. 3rd, Sally Tickner[v], the abandoned wife of Luther Richardson (5). He spent his married life in Lisbon; was an influential citizen; was a Justice of the Peace for many years, and was always known as "Squire Bishop".  He was a Rev. soldier in Capt. Timothy Barron's Co., Col. Timothy Bedel's regt., from Apr. 8th, to Apr. 1st, 1779.  See NH Rev. Rolls, vol. 2, p.592.  Children, born in Lisbon:

i.                Samuel [8], b. Feb. 21, 1776.

ii.              Ruth, b. Jan. 15, 1778; m. Jedediah Caswell (see).

iii.            Sarah, b. Oct. 5, 1779; m. Nathan Caswell (see).

iv.             Leonard, b. Aug. 21, 1781; m. Polly Walker, dau. of Learned Walker (see). They had 2 daughters, viz, Relief, b. June 7, 1807; who m. John Sabin (see); and Lucy b. Oct. 14, 1808, who m. Nov. 23, 1826, Rufus Titus of Lyman.  Leonard and Polly were divorced, and she m. 2nd, Dr, Phineas Elkins (see).

v.               Stephen, b. Apr. 21, 1786; d. Dec. 1, 1789.

vi.             Elizabeth, b. apr. 11, 1787; m. Nathan Bowles, went to Maine.

vii.           Isabel, b. June 21, 1789; m. Lewis Cass, went to N.Y. State.

viii.         Abigail, b. June 15, 1879(?) (sic); m. Seth Richardson (see).

ix.             John, b. Apr. 1, 1791.

x.               Enos [9], b. June 7, 1793. 

7.     Enos Bishop, son of Enos (5), was b. Nov. 21, 1769, probably in Haverhill, as his birth is recorded there.  The name of his wife has not been learned, but he had the following children:

i.                John; went to Vt., married, and had a family.

ii.              Enos; went to Me., married, and had a family.

iii.            Lydia; m. Nate Webber, had three children.

iv.             Zada; m. Emmons Stockwell.

v.               Mary; m. Hurray Young, son of Guy (see) 

8.     Samuel Bishop, son of Josiah (6), was b. in Lisbon, Feb. 21, 1776; m. Feb. 15, 1802, Elizabeth Caswell, b. in Littleton, Apr. 27, 1786, dau. of Nathan Caswell (see).  He resided in Lisbon and Landaff, and Canada.  He probably lived the last of his life in Benton, where his and his wife's death is recorded.  He d. Sept. 27, 1858; she d. Mar. 6, 1874.  Children:

i.                Samuel, b. in 1802; m. June 1, 1822, Lucy Dexter, dau. of Caleb (see).  They had a daughter. Eveline, b. in Lisbon, Apr. 17, 1824, who m. Cyrus Howland (see).

ii.              Sophronia, b. July 6, 1805; d. Oct. 6, 1805.

iii.            Eveline, b. June 30, 1806; m. Jabez Willey, and d. Feb. 6, 1827.

iv.             Leonard [10], b. Apr. 17, 1808.

v.               Hannah, b. Sept. 11, 1809; m. Selden Willey; d. Mar. 24, 1887.

vi.             Jane, b. Nov. 17, 1811; m. a Williamson.  She d. June 30, 1848

vii.           Russell Moore [11], b. May 27, 1813.

viii.         John [11a], b. Apr. 6, 1815.

ix.             Betsey, b. Dec. 27, 1816; m. William Thorton.  She d. May 6, 1853.  She had 3 daughters.

x.               Melvina S., b. Sept. 11, 1818; m. William Weld; d. Sept. 30, 1844.

xi.             Franklin, b. May 23, 1820; m. Jane Brill; d. Feb. 16, 1852.

xii.           Maria W., b. May 17, 1822; d. Sept. 30, 1842; unm.

xiii.         Diana, b. Apr. 22, 1824; m. Jan. 28, 1847, Charles C. Tyler.  He d. in Benton, where they had eleven children born, one, May, b. May 30, 1867, m. Albert Augustus Foss (see).  Mr. Tyler d. July 27, 1878, and widow lives in Benton (1910).

xiv.          Rufus, b. Dec. 10, 1829; d. Nov. 17, 1834.

xv.            Sarah, b. ----; m. George Kendall, and d. June 18, 1847.

xvi.          Martin, b. ----; d. Jan. 10, 1852, never married. 

9.     Enos Bishop, son of Josiah (6), was b. in Lisbon, June 7, 1793; m. Anna Richardson, b. in Lisbon, Apr. 6, 1799, dau. of Ebenezer and Ann (Aldrich) Richardson (see).  He resided in Lisbon, where he d. Mar. 6, 1852; she d. Mar. 20, 1873.  Children:

i.                Caroline, b. July 25, 1818; m. Jonathan Corey (see).

ii.              Anna, b. Feb. 19, 1821; m. William Corey (see).

iii.            John [12], b. Oct. 2, 1823.

iv.             Isabel, b. Nov. 28, 1825; m. James Hunt (see).

v.               Josiah Bingham [13], b. Feb. 27, 1831.

vi.             Lutheria, b. ----; m. Charles Howland, son of Jeremy (see).

vii.           Ralph, b. in 1835; shot by Brewster Young, June 9, 1862; never married. 

10.  Leonard Bishop, son of Samuel (8), was b. Apr. 17, 1808; m. 1st, Elizabeth Webber[vi]; 2nd, Sarah Ann Abbott.  He server as a sergeant in Co. C, 15th [NH] Vol. Inft., was taken prisoner, and died in Libby Prison, in 1862.  (The name "Rebecca" is written in ink into this paragraph, between the words "first" and "Elizabeth").  Chidren:

i.                Jacob W., b. in 1834; d. in Lisbon, Jan. 6, 1898; m. twice.

ii.              Alzina A., b. in Tilton, Sept. 4, 1840; m. Charles Enos Woolson (see). 

11.  Russell Moore Bishop, son of Samuel (8), was b.in Lisbon, May 27, 1813; m. Apr. 3, 1837, Charlotte Hunt, b. in Bath, Dec. 31, 1819, dau. of Thomas Hunt.  He resided in Lyman, Landaff, Bath, and Littleton, where he died June 18, 1876.  She d. in Littleton, May 9, 1888.  Children: 

i.                Henry Dinsmore, b. in Lyman, Aug. 5, 1838.

ii.              Elenora F., b. in Landaff, July 24, 1842; m. Nov. 22, 1877, Bradley Thomas, who d. Nov. 16, 1885.

iii.            Cassius M. C., b. in Bath, Mar. 28, 1849; m. Oct. 8, 1873, Anna Packer.  He d. in Gorham, Dec. 20, 1879; she d. Feb. 20, 1881.

iv.             Herman T., b. in Bath, Feb. 18, 1853; m. in 1875, Ada Haskell.  He was a druggist, and d. in Pueblo, Col. Mar. 28, 1888.

v.               Herbert T., b. Feb. 18, 1853 (twin); d. in Worcester, Mass., June 2, 1876.  He never married. 

11.  a.  John Bishop, son of Samuel (8), was b. Apr. 6, 1815; m. Dec. 14, 1842, Adeline Richardson, b. in Lisbon, Jan. 27, 1818, dau. of Seth and Abigail (Bishop) Richardson (see).  He enlisted in the civil war, Sept. 10, 1862, in Co. C, 15th N.H. Vol. Inft., was a sergeant, and d. in the hospital in Memphis, Tenn., Aug. 3, 1863.  His wife d. Oct. 22, 1884.  Children:

i.                Harvey W., b. in Lisbon, Aug. 25, 1845; m. Bell Russell.  He enlisted in the civil war, Aug. 18, 1862 in Co. E., 13th N.H. Vol. Inft., and was discharged as being disabled Feb. 26, 1863. He resides in Craftsburt, Vt.

ii.              Jane A., b. in Landaff, Dec. 5, 1847; m. in 1871, Ezra Pike.  She d. Mar. 5, 1895.  She had no children.

iii.            S. Ella, b. in Landaff, Jan. 8, 1853; m. Oct. 12, 1873, William Riley Brown, b. in Stratford, Apr. 2, 1844, son of Samuel and Sophia (Curtis) Brown.  He resides in Stratford, a farmer.  Children:

a.      Everett Clark Brown, b. Jan. 18, 1879, m. Oct. 15, 1908, Marie Augusta _____.  He is a horse dealer in Groveton, no children.

b.     Loyal Parsons Brown, b. Mar. 26, 1881; unmarried, res. Groveton.

c.      Howard Bishop Brown, b. Mar. 28, 1889.  He is a student at Dartmouth College. 

12.  John Bishop, son of Enos (9), was b. in Lisbon, Oct. 2, 1823; m. Jan. 24, 1848, Selinda Berkley, b. in Lisbon, Aug. 1, 1828, dau. of William Berkley (see).  They resided in Lisbon, where he d. May 17, 1890.  She d. Apr. 13, 1881.  Children:

i.                Hugh [14], b. Sept. 29, 1848.

ii.              Abbie L., b. Dec. 27, 1852; m. Warren Fisher of Haverhill; no children.

iii.            George H., b. Nov. 15, 1855, d. Aug. 25, 1861.

iv.             Ida Mabel, b. Jan. 29, 1859; lives in N.Y. City; unmarried.

v.               Ellen M., b. Jan. 6, 1872; m. Fred Hibbard; lives with Dudley Clough (see)

vi.             William Enos, b. Oct. 20, 1865.

vii.           Harvey Lee, b. June 25, 1868; m. Mary Clark, dau. of John and Catherine (Towns) Clark.  He lives in Salem, N.H.

i.                George Harry [16], b. in Lisbon, Oct. 16, 1862.

ii.              Fred Charles [17], b. in Lisbon, Mar. 31, 1868. 

14.  Hugh Bishop, son of John (12), was b. in Lisbon, Sept. 29, 1848; m. Nov. 4, 1876, Elizabeth Cobleigh, b. Oct. 15, 1847, dau. of George and Caoline (Hatch) Cobleigh (see).  He resided in Lisbon, where he d. Feb. 7, 1898.  Children:

i.                Carl Hatch, b. Oct. 14, 1878; d. the next day.

ii.              Frank Berkley, b. Oct. 24, 1879; m. in June 1907, Katherine Powers, b. in Northampton, Mass., Feb. 9, 1880, dau. of Thomas C. and Harriet (Aldrich) Powers.  She d. in West Lebanon, of consumption, Jan. 23, 1910.  No children.  (Added in handwriting -- "Frank B. Bishop died Feb. 15, 1914")

iii.            George C., b. Oct. 3, 1883; d. June 20, 1892.

iv.             Bessie Isabel, b. Apr. 12, 1887. 

15.  William Enos Bishop, son of John (12), was b. in Lisbon, Oct. 20, 1865; m. April. 10, 1893, Nellie G. Deming, b. in Bath, Jan. 8, 1869, dau. of Harvey and Mary (Elliott) Deming (see).  Children:

i.                Clifton Lewis, b. July 7, 1894.

ii.              Elwood Deming, b. Sept. 14, 1898.

iii.            Ruth, b. Dec. 29, 1901. 

16.  George Harry Bishop, son of Josiah (13), was b. in Lisbon, Oct. 16, 1862; m. Sept. 23, 1885 Ella A. Streeter, dau. of Joel and Lavira (Dexter) Streeter (see), b. in Lisbon, Jan. 27, 1867.  He is a farmer and butcher, and lives on the old homestead in Lisbon.  Children:

i.                Enos Ralph, b. Oct. 1893; m. Dec. 17, 1906, Ethel Luella Bailey.  He lives in Dover, N.H.

ii.              Nora Bell, b. Mar. 10, 1889; unm. In 1909. 

17.  Fred Charles Bishop, son of Josiah (13), was b. in Lisbon, Mar. 31, 1868; m. Oct. 1893, Myrtie Gertrude Elliot, b. July 10, 1873, dau. of Charles and Martha Elliot of Colebrook.  She d. in Lisbon, Jan. 13, 1903.  He is a farmer and butcher, and lives with his brother on the old homestead in Lisbon.  Child:

i.                Charles Josiah, b. in Lisbon, Mar. 15, 1895.
