LONGEST AND DEEPEST CAVE IN THE PHILIPPINES
THE 10 LONGEST CAVE
- 1. SAINT PAUL CAVE
- Bahile, Palawan. Length: c15000 m. Vertical Range: 100m. From the ressurgence
entrance on St. Paul Beach, the underground tidal river is navigable for
7km to a collapse which may be passed to gain access to the foot of the
100m entrance of Pennings Cave. An upper series explored by Italian
Cavers in 1989 doubled the previous surveyed length of the cave. Short
underground boat trips are available to tourists. Refs: Bruce 1980;
Mouret 1986.
- 2. ODLOMAN CAVE SYSTEM -
Mabinay, Negros Oriental. Length: 8870m Vertical Range: 82m. Exploration
is incomplete - five entrances have been connected and the system comprises
a mix of large and small galleries with some active streamway. Refs:
Slangan 1991.

Six entrances lead to a complex mix of active and fossil cave remarkable
for its large passages and impressive gours. The system is partially accessible
to tourists and a sump connected to Lokohong Cave. Refs: De Vivo and
Menin 1986, survey.

Penablanca, Cagayan. Length: 3000+m. Two known vertical entrances to a
large system with bad air. SMOC are continuing the survey. Briefly further
explored and surveyed during the Speleo Philippines 92. Refs: Smart
1991.

the cave would become the third deepest in the current list. Refs:
Speleo Philippines 92.
