CANOEING IN NOPIMING NATIONAL PARK......................
On future revisions of these pages I'll be marking the starting point and the best routes across the lakes to the Bird River System as well as pics of the lakes and rivers and some interesting stories and probably some other crap.

The Nopiming Provincial Park Map (which is available from almost every business in the Lac Du Bonnet area) has all the canoe routes marked on it, your not restricted to these routes but it's advised that you let someone know were you plan on going as it can be very rough country with alot of hard portages and some pretty serious wildlife.

Just last year I was forced to stop and very quietly turn my canoe around as their was a giant moose blocking the narrow river I was on, Moose can be very unpredictable and you generally don't want to get in their way but I rounded a corner and there he was about 50 feet ahead of me. He was standing in the river and he was so big he was only up to his knees. Unfortunately my camera was in my backpack which was all bundled wrapped and tied down to prevent it from getting wet if I was to flip the canoe so no picture is available. He stared me down and he won, I paddled away like any smart person would do. (coward) I've also had the pleasure of spotting giant eagles on a fairly regular basis and a snapping turtle (about 2 feet long), of course theirs bears to but I've never seen one (and I don't really want to) so you have to be careful.

Last summer I was paddling up Rabbit River (a small canoe route full of beaver dams and a nice little set of rapids) and I saw that someone had thrown a beer can in the river, This is totally unacceptable if you go their you can see the country as the traders and prospectors did but you get some assholes who have no respect for the river system or the land around it. I reached into the river and pulled the can out but it wasn't easy because it was in a weed bed that I had to plow into to get. So I guess my point is if your going to go there don't be a prick and ruin it for the rest of us.
