Looking straight down one of the steep cliffs
There's always some risk on curvey, narrow roads, especially going fast downhill. Dense clusters of Poison Oak line the roadside in Big Sur and Tena has a terrible allergy to it. So bad that she was more afraid falling into the Poison Oak than of going off one of the high the cliffs. Personally, I'd take Poinson Oak.
The road climbs many hills, then you speed down the steep, twisting descent with spectacular views that Tena enjoys while I try to keep my eye on the road for safety.
Each curve and promontory reveals another spectacular view

At Lucia, there is a small store, nice restaurant and vintage cabins
Julia Pfieffer Burns State Park. You can see 3 of our 4 panniers. Two are under the rear seat. If not for the underseat rack we couldn't carry the gear we need to tour on this bike.
This narrow, winding road hanging on steep cliffs is never dull
