The Facts

The Stirling Ridge Walk covers the area between Bluff Knoll and Ellen Peak , it is around 19km in length not including the initial ascent and can be accessed from either end of the range . The walk is a great challenge for the experienced hiker wanting a greater challenge than is offered around the surrounding areas of the City .
We began our walk from the Ellen Peak end being dropped off at Glenenlg Estate after checking with the landowner we drove across his property and on to the track leading to Ellen Peak . It should be noted that this is a wilderness area and for that reason tracks are scant and mostly not clearly defined . For that reason good navigational skills and a good map of the area is essential . We obtained our map a 1:10 000 copy from DOLA in Midland.
The walk approaching Ellen Peak is relatively easy going but requires good navigation due to the nature of the tracks already discussed . On a clear day the going will be a little easier as you will be able to see your target in the distance , it is however crucial you pick up the right track leading to the summit. The Stirling Ridge Walk covers the area between Bluff Knoll and Ellen Peak , it is around 19km in length not including the initial ascent and can be accessed from either end of the range .
