I went to the Yosemite Communuity Pages and went through all the drop downs and checked all the info out. Several times I went back to the Community Leader dropdown and clicked on the Community Leader info button and read about being a CL.
It intrigued me and I did like to be active and help people, so I finally got the nerve to fill out an application. This was during the merger and things got shuffled around, but finally I was notified I was accepted and would go through the first class since the merger. I was very excited and when the time came that my assigned Mentor wrote me that class was starting I was busting.
My Mentor is Yosemite Cyn and she was great and very helpful. Well, we started a day late because Cyn was out of town the first day and with her great help, I finished the two week training in one week. Now I am a Community Leader in the hood of Yosemite/Gorge.
My job is to help homesteaders that need help building their pages, answer questions about geo, visit homesteaders pages and look for violations, but the main thing I look for in there are the sites that qualify for the Yosemite Awards.
I really like it, and it looks like it's going to get better with more interacting between CL's and homesteaders. You don't have to be a whiz at everything to be a CL and if you enjoy helping people and have a little time, go check out the CL info page and see if you want to join in.
I have links below to the CL pages, so come on, check us out.
Since becoming a CL, Yahoo "Officially" decided to not recognize us, but we were told we could still help the "steaders" and to give out the awards. This was done, because a group in another .com sued the .com for the work they done. So, we regrouped and I was made a division leader, which is a lot like the old CL Liaison. We have fun as a group and are always looking for new people to come in and help out.
I'm happy to announce now that the Yosemite group of CL's have been working hard. We have a page up that you can see all of our resources, such as a Yosemite School for learning html, A graphics department, where you can pick up those much needed backgrounds and graphics, links to the Yosemite team, links to the awards and the Yosemite Ezine. We have a Community Center and much more. Check out our pages and if you need help, we're here for you.
For those of you that would like to become involved in the Yosemite Community, we are looking for new CL's. Think you have what it takes? Then go down to the links and get the information and if this is you, then fill out the application. We have a leader training program now and committees that's just itchin to get you on them. During training, you will work with a Mentor, one on one, so when you're finished, you'll know all the goodies about Yosemite and Geocities. So get that app in and if ya want, just ask for me as a mentor.
