Disko-island seen from the mainland at Ilulissat. Because of the very pure air, you can see
over a distance of 150 km! On the Disko-island (now called Qeqertarsuaq= big island in Inuit)
dogsledging is possible the whole year round.
I will never forget the sound of almost complete silence. The only thing you hear is the
trodding of the dogs in the snow. The dogteam, here consisting of nine dogs running next to
each other (not behind each other as in Alaska), is lead by an Inuit.
We were sitting with three persons, clothed in sealskin, on one sledge.
The driver gives his orders. Don't feel sorry for the dogs. They love it! But beware of flying crap!
Walking back from the mountaintop (950 m.) to the sea. It took about five hours to reach the top.
