About the best, or most used combination sails, seems to be in order of their value:
 

1. Main with one set jiffy reefing points. (2 reefs recommended)
2. Working jib, heavy material.
3. 150% genoa.
4. 115% genoa.
5. Medium cut maximum size spinnaker.
 

The San Juan 23 will perform much better in heavy airs if she is "sailed on her lines". This means reef and use smaller sails.
