Gold in the Rockies

California Golden Trout

II have covered many miles and altitude to find wild cutthroats and golden trout but I wasn't expecting them in the tiny creek where I was looking to find our dinner. I knew several lakes higher in the basin contain these gems but our encounter with a world class storm put us a day behind. It was either a good climb up Raid Peak or California Goldens. If I had one more day I would of climbed the 800 foot waterfall to the east to find the mother of this pan size surprise. The rest of my pan was full of brook trout who couldn't  resist my wool bugger fly. Next year I'll find Goldie's Mama!

August 1997, Croonenberghs and Lilly.
