23 Days of Hell

The first week of January turned out to be one that Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec will remember for years to come. Disaster hit this part of Canada with a vengeance that people will be calling the GREAT ICE STORM OF 1998. This will go down with other Canadian Disasters of this century, such as the Red River Flood of Manitoba 1997 and the Saguenay, Lac-St.Jean Quebec Flood of 1996.

On this week of January we were hit with four days of freezing rain, the likes of which we have never before experienced in this century. This storm caused hardships for farmers who needed power to milk and look after their livestock and loss of power and heat for all of Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec.

I would like to thank all the hydro,bell crews from the U.S.A.,Manitoba, Newfoundland,and from the parts of Ontario who came to give their support to our area in this time of destruction. These gentlemen worked long days mostly 16 hour days to to get eastern Ontario, western Quebec back on line with power.

I would also like to thank the Canadian Army for their help bringing the people who needed supplies and helping farmers with generators and doing what ever it took to get people through this trying time.

Also to the rest of the volunteers who worked the shelters giving their time to help people who had no choice but to leave their homes because of the lack of heat.Sending supplies to the ones who could not get there or had no way to do so.

And to the ones who stole from people such as generators or broke in to their homes while they were at emergency shelters I hope the law gives you the max for your crimes and not just a slap in the wrist like they usually do if so I hope one day you will be on the end of the suffering you caused these people in a time of disaster.These deeds caused unjust pain to the families involved plus unneeded costs to companies like Bell Canada who had to hire people to watch their generators to keep the lines open for the public and emergengy calls when needed. If you do get away with it you will pay in the end and it won't be 23 DAYS OF HELL IT WILL BE ETERNITY !
