Klondike Derby - Woodsawing
In the afternoon there was a Klondike Derby. Teams of up to six webeloes or scouts took a sled around a course about one and a half miles long (leaving at 5 minute intervals), stopping to do various
activities along they way. They got points for each activity, and were
timed for the whole event, which took about an hour. The activities
were
log sawing (pictured here) - at which they had to saw of a piece of log a certain
length,
orienteering, knots - at which they had to tie 10 knots (7 different
ones)
to suspend a piece of log in the air between two trees, archery, fire
building (build a fire and pop some popcorn), first aid (answer a quiz).
The circuit was about one and a half miles long, and went down (and then
up) quite a steep hill to the river.
