A group of friends and I enjoy getting away to some remote areas to hunt the elusive Rocky Mountain Big Horn.We hunt by a couple of methods, normally backpacking, and on the odd occasion we pack into areas with horses. It gets you away from the crowds, and into areas that are unbelievably beautiful. These pictures are from a hunt we did in northwestern Alberta in the early fall of 1995.We were in for a total of 16 days, and during that time saw 2 hikers, a couple of Game Wardens who had been flown in by helicopter to check hunters, and the jet stream from a high flying airliner. Other then that, human influence was next to non existant.Believe it or not,the quiet was hard to get used to!
The hunt would have been a success with or without harvesting a Ram.We ended up seeing more then 30 Rams between four of us during this hunt, and although 2 of us missed long shots at good Rams, one of the guys got a nice Sheep on the second day of the season. This trip was an Adventure that lasts in ones memory forever and really makes you appreciate the things life has to offer.Hard work and long days, but worth every second.
