Long ago in some cliffs outside the city of Thar caelon, a small horse-like creature emerged from a cave entrance. She was the last of her kind, or so she would be told later, and to young to protect herself yet. Not to far away, hunting in the woods near the cliffs, are three people. Two were strange in apperence, sort of wolf-like, and they called the third man Master. For he was the master of his domain and that land around it. The two creatures had been with this man for a long time and he come to trust the instincts of the older one, who’s name is Par’Jennoc, for this creature had saved his life on more than one occation so far.The younger one is know as Rae’mennon, and is the son of Par’Jennoc, and this outing was just one of many training sessons for him. This was the first time he had been this far for training.
As they get closer to the cliffs and the caves, Par’Jennoc stoppes.Always ready for a battle the master draws his sword as Par’Jennoc sniffs the air, seeing this Rae’mennon stops and imatates his father, maybe because he is younger, he catches the scent quicker then his father, and he starts off towards the caves.Seeing this the Master and Par’Jennoc quickly take off after him, yelling for him to stop, only he is to far away for it to do any good.
Outside her cave, the small creature is unaware of the danger she is in. If she isn’t careful her lift could be over quickly, just like the others inside the cave. The only reason she is outside is that she is hungry and she paws at the ground for food. Not finding any though she turns around heads back to the cave and lies down next to her mother, and awaits death’s visit.
Comming upon the cave entrance, Rae’mennon searched and finds the scent. As he waits for the others he knows he is in trouble. He shouldn’t have fun off that way, but he is young and the thrill of adventure runs fast threw his veins. He isn’t waiting long as his father and the master make their way towards the cave..Par’Jennon is mentaly scolding his son for acting so foolish, but now that they have arrived they might as well check out the cave and surrounding areas. As they search the area they find evadence of a battle, as they proceed into the cave the stench of blood hangs heavy in the air. Looking around the three find that an even bigger battle took place here. The bodies of what look like two stallions are here, just inside the cave entrance. They are missing their hooves and something was removed from their heads. Could this be the last band of unicorns the villagers keep telling stories about. They were told to have become extinct many moons ago, or were they? If this is the last then what form of evil could have done this and why.
As the master moves further into the caves he tells his servents to keep watch. He must find the mare, make sure she got out safely. The further he walks the more he prays there is another way out of these caves. Unfortuatly the further he walks the more blood he sees. This is not good he thinks to himself. Finally near the end of the cave he finds what he searches for. The Mare, only, just like her son and mate, she to has been slaudered, and by the looks of her she died the most violent. Almost as if she was fighting for the life of another. Looking around him, the Master sees nothing but shadows. Calling to his servents, he looks deeper into the shadows.
When the servents arrive, the master instructs them to search the cave. “There is another” he tells them, “We must find the last unicorn. Search everywhere” Meanwhile, from the shadows, the little unicorn watches the man and his men search everywhere. She sees sadness in his eyes and wonders why. Why would a human care what happens to one of her kind. The only think they wish is the power of the horns that her kind carry on their heads. Staying in the shadows, the unicorn watches the man. This one intreges her, but the others, she has seen that kind before. They are like the ones that were here before. The ones that killed her family. As one of the servents moves closer to her, she moves deeper into the shadows, hoping her ebony black coat helps hide her.
After a few minutes more of searching and finding nothing, the master calls his men back. He explains that the other one must have gotten away and that he wants to take the bodies of the other three back to the Keep. There he can give them a decient burial. Meanwhile, the unicorn looks for a way closer to her mother. Looking everyway possible she doesn’t realise that her movement has attracted the attention of the younger servent. Rae’Mennon tries to explain to the master that the unicorn is still here in the caves. His father scolds him again for interuping, and apoligizes for the interruption. Begging forgiveness Rae’Mennon moves off towards the young unicorn. Seeing nothing he wonders if the light is playing tricks, though all his other scents tell him otherwise..He knows she is there, he only has to find her. Closer to her mother the unicorn makes a break for her body. Seeing this Rae’Mennon leaps towards her, catching one of her hind legs. The unicorn turns and her horn cuts into the young servents arm. Howling out as he releases her, Rae’Mennon grabs his arm to stop the blood flow.
Hearing the howl, Par’Jennon and the Master rush to the back of the cave, were they see Rae’Mennon kneeling next to the body of the mare. Blood pours out of a cut deep in his arm. “What happened” they ask. “The unicorn. I found the unicorn and she is so beautiful” “Let me see the arm” Par’Jennon says. As he starts forward he notices movement in the shadows. Forgetting his son for a minute, He starts towards the movement. Knowing what he will find Rae’Mennon gets up and blocks his father. “No, she is scared, let her be for now, help me first” he begs “Please father” Already weaking from the loss of blood Rae’Mennon knows that this might be the only way to protect this precious creature.
From the shadows, once again the unicorn watches and wonders why after what she did this creature he would try and save her life. For she would have gladly seen him dead had their positions been reversied. Then she remembers the lessons her parents and brother tought her. She has the power to heal, and she must heal this creature.
Slowly making her way out of the shadows and towards Rae’Mennon. Comming up behind him she lightly taps his shoulder. Turning around quickly, Rae’Mennon draws the attention of the others to the unicorn. For the first time Par’Jennon and the Master see this young creature and are mesmerized. She is beautiful.. her horn and hooves are a clear gold, her coat a deep dark black and her mane and tail are red as fire. She moves closer to the injured arm and lightly touches her horn to the damaged area. Slowly and as the other watches the wound disappears as if it was never there. Since this is the first time she has done this the power drain is a lot.. “rest, I need to rest”. Somehow the others are able to hear her thoughts. She stumbles back to the shadows to rest.
Since she has gone for a while the master thinks it is time to get the wagon loaded up. Ordering his men to start loading the bodies. Making sure that to passers it just looks like a wagon full of game. He wants to be heading back to the keep before nightfalls. Par’Jennoc and his son help with the loading of the unicorn bodies, making sure that noone can see just what they are. As the men load up the bodies and drape blankets and hay over them, Rae’Mennon tells his father that if the young unicorn won’t leave the caves then he will stay and protect her and her home. It is the least he can do for her saving his arm and possable his life. Par’Jennoc hopes it will not come to this, and tells his son that the master will find a way to protect her and get her to come with them, even for ashort while. “Why would anyone hurt such beautiful creatures though” Rae’Mennon asked his father, he knows that if for some reason or other that unless she comes with them, or someone like him stays behind, the men that killed her family will return for her. If not them then others once it is know that there really are unicorns. She is not safe in this world now.
Meanwhile, inside the cave, the young unicorn is gathering her strangeth. Why should she leave her home she wonders. Who would come for her. She is sure that the men that killed her family doesn’t know about her and if they do they would have returned long before now, wouldn’t they? She looks up and notices the man they called Master just sitting looking into the shadows trying to find her it seems. Outside the shadows, the master is sitting on some rocks and he is looking at the place where the unicorn returned to the shadows. He seems to be saying something or singing something, but the unicorn can’t make out what it is.
While the master sits there he starts talking to the unicorn. He tells her of the garden at his keep and of his plans for her family. How he would like for her to come back so that his men and himself can protect her from the evil of this world. He knows she would enjoy the myscial garden and all that it has to offer. He tells her why it was made in the first place and of the love he lost. How he made the garden for her, and how it is a lovely reminder of the love they share.
As this man, this master of men, talks the unicorn sinces his sadness, wondering if she can help him by going with him to this garden. She knows that she would be safe there, and she might be able to practice her healing powers with him. See if she can’t mend his heart is some way. Looking out of her shadowy hideout she wonders how she can leave her home though. She has never been really far from it before, and the outside world is such a big place.
As she is resting and listening to the man talk everything her family has taught her runs threw her head. As does the battle that took their lives. With that memory here, this place no longer seems so safe. Getting up and stumbling back out of the shadows, for the last time, she walks over to the man and kneels in front of him. Laying her horn against his chest and her head in his lap, tears form in her eyes as she says good-bye to her old life. What will her new one hold, she wonders. After a few minutes, she get back to her feet and stands before the Master. Once again he is amazed at the sight before him. A Ebony black coated unicorn with a golden-white horn and golden hooves, and ending with a flame red mane and tail. Head held high the unicorn looks this man in the eyes “ I will go with you for now, “she says “but there is something I must tell you. I must be able to leave when it is safe and I deem it is time.”
With this the master turns towards the cave entrance “You will wait here until it is safe to come out” he tells the unicorn. ”Eather myself or one of my two trusted servents will return for you”. With that said he leaves the caves and steps outside to see how the wagon is coming along. He thinks over what the unicorn said and know’s that as long as she is within his walls she is safe. He has to find a way to keep her there forever. Stepping outside he calls to Par’Jennoc and Rae’Mennon. He tells them that the little one is coming with them and that
